These guys gave me an estimate of $95 for just to lift up my car to check but thank goodness I knew that it should not be this costly so I came here and they removed in just $10 which obviously included lifting up the car. Pandemic update! I've felt safer taking my car here than anywhere I've been since the pandemic started. (And I've had to have it smogged and take it to the dealership for repairs.) They are taking the safety precautions very seriously! All employees are wearing masks and appropriately (didn't see any noses hanging out). Only one person is allowed in the office at a time, they provide hand sanitizer, and waiting seats outside are spaced very well. They provide clear directions for customers to follow for safety. I even noticed they kept the windows on my car open while they were working on it for ventilation! Why did I put off my oil change for so long?! Yet more reasons to appreciate these guys. I had my rear breaks rotors and pads replaced here for $531. Shortly after my car started making a really annoying metallic rattling noise. Another mechanic immediately understood that the break pads were hitting the rotors, so I came back to Stevens Creek Automotive to have them checked. They kept denying that this was their responsibility. They checked the breaks again and said that there was nothing wrong with the them. I went back to the other mechanic and he immediately found that the brake pads were out of spec. They replaced the brake pads and now the noise went away and the brakes work perfectly. I have the older break pads and all the documentation to prove these claims. Unfortunately this cost me another $280 on top of the $531 they initially charged me. UPDATE: The shop took the defective break pads and reimbursed me of the $280 which cost me to fix the issue. I thought this was nice of them so up gave them another star. read more

I had my engine replaced by them in November 2020 but it was done incorrectly. Transmission cooling hose lines were cut and clamped together instead of being removed, which has caused all the transmission fluid to leak and transmission failure. This issue was foreshadowed, and I mentioned it to the owner before I brought the vehicle back home after the engine replacement, but he assured me it would never leak. Fast forward to today, while my son was on his way to work, the truck suddenly stopped engaging the gear in the freeway but luckily he was right near the exit of the shop so he was barely able to make it to the shop with my transmission slipping according to him. The truck was completely soaked in transmission fluid from underneath and up the driver's door. They wiped the door clean but didn't want to do anything about the rest. Also instead of completely replacing the line, they decided to just make another clamp repair and insisted for us to take delivery of the truck as is. I refused to take delivery until the line is completely replaced, but I doubt that my transmission will be 100% good after running without oil and slipping. The transmission was replaced with a rebuilt transmission a few years ago by AAMCO Transmissions but the lines were never cut by them and was working perfectly. After the engine was replaced, the truck's transmission never felt like it was running 100% and I assume it's because it wasn't being cooled properly and overheating and it would intermittently delay the shift points but never thought much of it since it was assumed to be good by a "pro". The clamp repair involved a coupler to repair the line they cut which would reduce the amount of fluid being sent and cooled (common sense). Ultimately I think my transmission got severely damaged due to an improper hose line connection. They claim it drives good but I won't know until I drive it or take it to a transmission specialist. In the end, they verbally agreed to recompensate me for a steam cleaning under the truck and replace the lines, but they want me to take it to get cleaned, pay out of pocket, and then they will recompensate me the charge. My concern is they will not hold their end of the deal and I am stuck with a bad transmission caused by their improper repair and a dirty truck soaked in transmission fluid. Very disappointed especially since they charged top dollar for the engine replacement and I trusted they would do a proper job. The moral of the story is don't trust them with your vehicle; a "pro" wouldn't cut a hose instead of removing it. My assumption is it was pure laziness of doing it the right way and losing all the transmission fluid by removing the hose line. properly but they still ended up charging for every drop of fluid they used. Oem wouldn't ever use hose clamps (especially 3 clamps at each end which would cause friction and rip again in 10,000 miles.) or couplers to repair a hose. The truck was also at the shop for over a month, so they had plenty of time to do the work right. read more

All I needed was a regular oil change, once my vehicle was on the lift all of a sudden I had an oil leak out of no where. I didn't t have any oil leaks or signs in my driveway that I had an oil leak, but once my vehicle was being serviced by these crooks now I had issues. They showed me my vehicle leaking oil like it was a faucet ‍. What a coincidence. They are excellent and Chris is the forensic specialist of cars and have never left the shop feeling like I took a heavy hit financially. The only time I had to pay a bit more was when the alternator and fan went out...but even then the price wasn't too bad in comparison to what it would have been at other shops. I discovered this place by the means of other mechanics who've attempted to rip me off when I needed my brakes done. Their estimate was far more reasonable than the 4 to 5 shops I inquired to regarding costs. Also hours are convenient to many customers work schedules and they are open on Saturdays. Lastly, it is within walking distance to Santana Row, Valley Fair, and decent restaurants....which is a great way to kill time as they work on your car. It was very quick and they were super helpful. They could've taken advantage of my situation because although it was just a piece of plastic. It was scraping on the ground leaving me unable to drive my car normally. They removed the plastic free of charge. My car was in the parking lot that was in the same shopping center as this place. I had a flat tire and asked if they can put on my spare for me. My tire was completely flat. The guy said yes he can and I was waiting for him for almost 45 mins. I asked him how long I can expect it to take and he said as soon as a technician frees up. But nobody was even busy!!!' And they kept taking other people walking in after me before me!!! After 45 mins of waiting, the guy at the front desk asked if I can drive my car closer and I said no bc the tire was flat and that it'll damage my wheels. He said "well I guess that's a risk you're gonna have to take" wtf. I then asked him why he told me he can change my tire for me then all of a sudden change his mind. And he literally goes "look I'm not gonna lose my job over you" wtf..... He made me wait 45 mins for nothing. And he was incredibly rude. Never going here again. I ended up having to call someone else to change my tire for me so it added an extra hour when I could've just done that in the first place. read more

You get exactly what you pay for when you come to Stevens creek auto. There's a reason they charge significantly less than other shops. They're never able to finish the work in the time that they originally stated, they're inexperienced and the manager was extremely rude. When I got back in my car, I was surprised to see some repairs that I was not told about, my radio settings all changed and my dash cam completely unplugged. When I very politely told them that they should let me know if they want to do other repairs beforehand and that I didn't appreciate them unplugging my dash cam, they told me my car looked stupid and that I was an idiot and to never come back. I wasn't planning on coming back in the first place. Save yourself the time and money. It seems cheap Edit: Just went to take off my wheel and they overtorqued one of the lug nuts and snapped a stud... after my car was in because they had snapped another stud last time I was in for service. read more

When I've had minor little problems, they've even done them for free! You can drop your car off for a smog test & pick it up later, or just wait there about 30-40 minutes. I wish there were negative stars. THIS PLACE RIPPED ME OFF!!!!!!!!! The gist of the situation: My engine light came on (not flashing) on my 2004 Corolla which has 153k miles on it. I knew I had been needing a tune up, so I decided to try them out since they were close to my home and open on Saturday. I took my car in and requested for them to check out the engine light and to give a basic tune up. They seemed pretty busy so I inquired if I should bring it back another day - Chris said no it would be fine and it should only take an hour. This was 10 AM. I did not hear anything until I was done running errands at 3 PM so I called them. The man who answered said he did not see my car and would call me back. (uhhh????) He called me back 1 minute later and said they checked out the light and it was not something they could fix and advised me to take it to Toyota. He said it may be something wrong with the computer. Um ok. I asked about the tune up and he said it did not need one. I have not had it tuned up in 70k miles! Anyway, I sent my FI to pick it up and they charged us 65 bucks!! My FI asked what they did and he said they connected it to the machine to check for the light and gave me a GOOGLE PRINT OUT OF POSSIBLE CAUSES OF ENGINE LIGHT issues for my car.. I am not kidding. He wanted $65 for them plugging my computer into a machine and also for a google print out!!! Done. This place is ridiculous and are scam artists. BAD BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

My friend had some work done here and seemed happy, so I gave them a call for an estimate on a diagnosis and a fuel filter. I was told an hourly rate of $65, and the fuel filter would be about an hour plus the cost of the part, so $78. I was told I could come in that afternoon and have it done. I got there about a half hour later than expected, and they looked busy, so I was not surprised when I was told no, they couldn't do the work that day, but I could bring it back tomorrow. However, the guy at the counter was telling me the fuel filter would take "a few hours." Pardon? I was told one. I told him this and he said okay, so the estimate would be $98 plus the cost of the part. So let me get this straight...you're telling me you work much slower than the person I spoke to on the phone, and your hourly rate suddenly jumped $33 in the course of less than one work day? Either someone was trying to squeeze me for more money (which I don't have) or people in the shop aren't communicating well. Either way this did not leave me with a good taste in my mouth..already there are trust issues and I haven't even handed over my keys yet! Sorry, I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Horrible. Never go to this place again. Went there for a basic radiator flush on a Datsun 510. Now, this is a classic car, not a race car, and also 30 years old. We stood out there waiting for about half an hour, didn't even see them turn on the machine. Five minutes after walking into the lobby, we saw them pulling out, then proceeding to floor it through 1st and 2nd gear down the strip close to it. The guy then brings it back, stalls, and the car wouldn't start. Turns out fuel pump relay and fuse went out some how... They tried to fix it, ended up destroying a wire-tuck.. Anywho, they tried to justify flooring it through 1st and 2nd as something routine, and then gave us attitude when we implied that we did not want the car left there over night. They fixed it the next day, but not after cutting several wires, destroying a clean wire tuck, slamming the doors so that the sound proofing actually CAME OFF and stuck to the window... yeah, no thanks.. read more

Dropped off my car last night for maintenance last night with the expectation to get it done conviniently and it is free for the first 3 years. What i do not expect is they don't do pick up. So I guess they expect me to take a bus or taxi or walk to pick up mycar? I could have gone to any oil change place accros the street and very convinient picking up my car. Free maintenance but will cost customers to get a taxi ride it is not free then To make the story even worst. Afrer playing phone tag with Jon from maintenance advisor, I finally left a message that the car will be picked up after 7pm. I was able to get a ride from my work. When I got there, went to the receptionist and found that my key was no where to be found. Wonderful!! And my ride already left. Great customer service. So folks, this is what I can say if my friends or customers or trainers or anyone asked me where I go to get my car maintenance? I will tell them i know where you SHOULDN't go. read more

I haven't had much much luck with finding an honest, reliable car shop. So, I consulted Yelp and decided to give this place a try. I left feeling pretty happy about my experience - I noticed a lot of customers who appeared to be regulars come in and out while I waited, nobody tried to upsell me, and it was only about 40 minutes for an oil change and smog check. Had I immediately wrote this review, it probably would have been a 5 star review. But, you'll notice...it's not. About a week after I had taken my car in, I hopped on the freeway for the first time. After driving less than a mile, I heard a thumping noise from under my car. It sounded the way a flat tire does, but the car didn't run like it had a flat. So, I slowly drove on the shoulder for another mile to the next off-ramp. Not the sort of drama a seven and a half month pregnant lady needs. My bf later came to switch cars with me and said the undercarriage or oil pan or something had come loose (I'm not a great listener, apparently). After he had a chance to look underneath the car, he said all five (or was it seven?) bolts were missing, which meant it was pretty likely the mechanic forgot to replace them after he changed the oil. In any event, I like to give people the benefit of doubt. Hence a 3 star review. But while I cannot definitively say the mechanic was to blame...I'm also not going to go back a second time. I have lived in San Jose for 10 yrs now, and I always take my car here for service. I have always received great service. I never blame them for my car needing service, it's just a fact of car ownership. Parts break, oil needs changed. They have always done a good job for me. My last visit here I needed a lot of things done on my car, as it now has over 100,000 miles. They did all that the dealer said I needed for about 30% less, so I am quite happy. The guy that runs this place is always friendly and very knowledgeable. I usually have to wait a while, since this place is quite busy, but I WANT to go to a busy place, that means they are making their customers happy. If a place has no business, that is a sign they may not be doing good work. I realize nobody is perfect, we are all human, and mistakes will happen, but I know here, all you have to do is just let them know and they will make it right. I was very happy I found this place after moving to San Jose. It's like a family business, where they seem to care about the customer, not just getting cars in and out fast. Without any reservations, I recommend this place to anyone who asks about auto service. read more

I took my car here to get an oil change, transmission fluid flush, and to replace a headlight. The total cost was about $150, which I thought was reasonable, and the owner (?) was REALLY nice. The nicest mechanic I have ever met. He also didn't try to sell me any additional services I didn't need, which is always a plus. facts: I have a 2001 Acura MDX with ~220K miles on it. Took it here for an oil change. Thought I needed high mileage oil, which costs more, but mechanic said it wasn't necessary unless my car was burning oil. So went with the basic oil, which cost 29.99 +tax. They noticed that the drain bolt was stripped because someone used a wrong wrench to try to take it out (that was my mistake -_-) and recommended me to get another one from the dealer. They also noticed that I had a nail in my front left tire and charged $20 to patch it. Total cost of the oil change and tire patch was $52. My approximate wait time was 20 minutes. Misc: They only had 3 magazines there and the snack vending machine only had about 4 items left in it. Review: I thought the service was really good and the front desk person was helpful. Didn't seem to want to squeeze any mysterious repairs are ones that aren't due for a while. I thought the price to patch the tire was a little expensive. I've heard of places that charge $10. The wait time wasn't too bad though but it would have been nice if they had more magazines. Conclusion: Will probably go back to get my oil change done there. Jiffy lube charges a little more than what I paid but I didn't want to go to them because of all the bad reviews I've heard about them. And it's also not recommended to change your oil at chain stores since supposedly they are hourly paid and work at near minimum wage. Rather people say go to the small mom and pop stores because supposedly since their business reputation is on the line, they'll put more care into their repairs. read more

I dont know much about cars and they do a great job explaining what's going on and the cheapest option to fix it (they once told me to just go to the dealer to buy the parts myself at a cheaper price and then go back to have them to the labor bc if they buy the parts it would be more expensive for me). 11/24/2007- My car was overheating again so I decided to take it back in to get it checked out. When I went to pick up my car, they didn't charge me anything for it. It's so hard to find a trustworthy automotive, and this place is definitely it!! 10/14/2007-I'm always weary of mechanics because you hear of stories on how they try to rip you off. However, this place was very honest. I was having problems with my car overheating, and putting water would fix the problem temporarily. But this time, with water, it still overheated. I was on the freeway and I had to exit. Luckily, there was Steven's Creek Automotive. I really didn't have the option to do research and drive elsewhere so I took it there. Norman (the owner?) told me that it could be the radiator or thermostat, etc and quoted me $98 to check it out. The next day, he said they needed to fix my thermostat and needed a coolant flush and the cost was $178. He waived the original $98 too. Very nice!!! read more

My wife went to this shop when her Honda decided it was not going any further. Long story short the poor thing was leaking oil. This began a long and exhausting process where the mechanic thought the Honda was good to go but the Honda had other ideas. The Honda decided it very much wanted to be. Harley and mark its territory where ever it went. It was more than willing to claim each and every parking spot it rested at. Several seal changes later the Honda finally started to behave, to a point, it the started burning oil. This was at about 150K and is normal for elderly Accords. They have replaced a distributor for be as well as rebuilt the top end. The Honda is still going strong at 180k and is my daily driver. Chris and Norman have never steered us wrong and have often figured out ways to trim down the cost of big repairs. They have always honored their warranty, even on the Big ticket items like the engine bearings that did not quite work out --twice (oops) The place is super busy with many local, loyal customers. Come early on Saturday before or at 8:00 to open the shop if you want to get quicker service. Same advice for week days. Hang out at the mall and call them to find out how things are going. They mean well, but they almost never call you or call back. Except to have a nice lunch at the mall for more complex repairs. I wouldn't worry too much about the vending machine service anymore, the machine is gone, but the poor selection of magazines remain. Go to the mall or bring a book if you want to stay at the shop. read more
