I really wanted to give 5 stars for this place, but I just could not! I was really craving Thai food and there wasnt really any in the area. I saw this place and it seemed like a new place seeing only few reviews. I decided to give them a try because why not. I went there, they had curries that were already made and you can pick 3 option or something like that. The employee told me to just choose something from the menu so they can make it fresh, I said sure why not. So I ended up ordering drunken noodles because I just like them and I asked no onions. I dont like spicy food so I said mild "2" so Im assuming that it would not be spicy, I think it was really spicy!! I had the dish with beef and I think the beef was very disgusting! I could not eat the meat, I ate the noodles, veggies but I didnt feel like I enjoyed it much since it was very spicy. The employee also put me some veggies with tofu on the side, I thought that was very sweet of her. I think this tasted so much better than the drunken noodles. This new Thai takeaway just opened in North Salinas. It's a small space, a bit overheated, with a handful of two seater tables. You can order one, two or three well priced entree combos from steam trays, or they also have a menu with other entrees that take a bit longer. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and the food was tasty. I had the red curry chicken with steamed rice, which had the right level of spice for me, and a thai tea. I was so excited when I first saw the sign for this new Thai restaurant off Davis Road. However, everytime I checked it out, it was closed! Finally, my persistance paid off, and they were open when I called last week. Turns out that the original owners had sold, and the new owners had only been open for about a week. It was worth the wait. It's a small spot, with only a couple of tables inside, but I believe there were a few more outside. It's primarily set up for take out, as all items were delivered in to-go containers, which made it easy to take the leftovers home. Basically, there are two ways to order: Choose one, two or three entrees (plus side) from their pre-made buffet, or order an entree ala carte from their menu. I ordered from the pre-made buffet items, and my dining partner ordered ala carte, as well as some egg rolls. Everything was delicious! I'm not exactly sure what I ordered - I believe one was a green curry vegetable, and the other was a chicken curry. Since it was already made, I just pointed at two of the items that looked good. (They were!) I have posted their new menu so you can see some of their menu options. Since we have a shortage of good Thai food in Salinas, I was happy to see another option, and a delicious one at that. I will be going back soon to sample more of their menu. read more

I ordered the Pad Phrik Khing Trout dish this time and highly recommend, but be careful of small bones. I also tried the Thai Basil Fried Rice and everyone loved this dish the most, very flavorful! You can never go wrong with the Pad Thai! This time I ordered the Tofu Pad Thai and did not care for the huge chunks. I'd like it a lot better if the tofu was cut smaller, but that's just personal preference. I ordered delivery through DoorDash and everything was still piping hot after it arrived. I guess I need to request napkins & silverware though. Overall I love Khao San Thai Kitchen and will keep coming back to try all the dishes! read more

Ordered online and food was ready when I picked up 15 mins later. The Penang curry was so good!!! The portion was huge too. Next time I would recommend ordering two sides of rice though because I needed some extra for the leftovers. Great little place to get takeout. read more

This place is quick and delightfully delicious :) I got the chow mein with tofu with medium spice. It was so good! Also got Thai iced tea-amazing! Great customer service and the lunch special soup was delicious as well. I don't understand why more people aren't in here instead of subway!! I would take this over that any day. Hungry after being severely delayed from our trip to Healdsburg to Santa Ynez, we exited the 101 S to get gas at Chevron station; after which we decided to get a quick bite to eat. The first eatery that we headed towards, was a Hawaiian barbecue eatery inside a strip mall - but the unassuming restaurant besides it, Khao San Thai Kitchen caught our attention and we decided to have a go. We were rewarded with the best Tom Yum soup we had ever! We ordered 3 separate to-go bowls of Tom Yum - which we ended up happily slurping outside. The soup was generously packed with chicken and shrimp and was a welcome respite for 3 weary travelers. We also ordered the Pad Thai and Pad See Yew, which were also delicious! Was in Salinas for Monster Jam and wanted to get dinner after arriving to town. I decided on thai, and then decided to go to Khao San Thai Kitchen. Im glad I did! I got the potstickers and beef Pad Se Ew. Both were excellent. Staff was extremely friendly and food came out fast and piping hot. I also liked the fact that the Pad Se Ew came in a meal prep container, as there was so much food I had to take some back with me to the hotel. I was so impressed I suggested Khao San to co-workers who were down in Salinas for a few days for work. Will go again next time im in Salinas. read more

The noodles in the pad thai I ordered tasted expired. It smells like mildew. The vegetable and tofu in there is ok. The sauce is good. It almost covered up the bad taste of the rice noodles. Didn't try other dish. It's normal for a small shop. Dry food doesn't use up as fast. read more

I have had both lunch and dinner several times at this establishment and each time the food Has been delicious! The spring rolls were fresh, the orange chicken was crunchy on the outside and full of flavor. I ordered medium spice for my drunken noodles- medium spice was perfect for me... The pad Thai had this extra flavor that I have not had at other Thai places which was a good thing! The last time we ordered the food online, our dinner was ready to go by the time we got there and the food was hot- not cold or lukewarm but hot and ready to eat Very nice lady running the kitchen. I always get the same dish whenever I get Thai food, so not much to say about that. The pad se ew is a bit drier than at other places, but still good. Last time I went in to pick something up they were super busy. My hat is off to them though. Every time my mom and I go to Khao San it's nothing short of amazing and yummy! We used to frequent another thai restaurant until they went downhill and we found Khao San. They are easily the best place to get pad thai at any spice level. When you ask for heat they really bring the heat and no games. Lunch time is awesome because when you order your dish you get an awesome coconut based soup with zucchini and tomatoes.The owner is also the most caring and hard working woman I've come across in a long time. She really values your opinion and doesn't take it lightly. I hope this business stays for a long time. read more

Had the drunken noodles, they were awesome! I appreciated that is wasn't a huge serving, it was just me. I've read some posts about people not wanting spicy food at a Thai restaurant. To me, that's like going into an ice cream parlor and asking for something that's not sweet. So I ordered mine four out of five spicy, and I got the most delicious Drunken Noodles I've ever had. The lady on the phone was super sweet, and repeated my request okay 4 out of 5, medium. It was hot :-) I appreciate the sense of humor. By the way, delivery is by doordash. Today I had the opportunity to have the pineapple curry from KhaoSan... and it was absolutely heavenly. Now let me explain this was not a planned visit in fact it was very spontaneous. We stopped to get gas and decided to get something to eat. I flipped a coin between Thai food and Subways . Subways lost out because they didn't have outdoor seating and I didn't want my car to smell like meatball sandwiches. Best decision I made all day. The service was great and the food was spectacular. Egg rolls were a 5. Yellow curry was a 1. It was so bad that maybe the chef made some big mistakes in the kitchen that the food we got was just an anomaly. The sauce was so thick and the flavor well there was none, even adding chili sauce couldn't save it!! I've never had such horribly made curry before. I lived in Thailand for awhile and I can never find Tom Kha that tastes any good, it's always different wherever you go of course but this place reminded me of food there.
