It's about Thaime I found out about Khao Thai by Legato (KTL), another hidden gem discovered through UberEats. I had cravings for Thai food tonight, and KTL fulfilled that and more. THAI STYLE RICE CAKES ($6.95) - CHICKEN (+$1): These are not your Chinese or Korean rice cakes; they are actual deep-fried rice patties with cilantro, egg, green onions, and chicken should you opt for it. While I didn't quite taste these other ingredients (or frankly see the chicken), I was still pleasantly surprised by how tasty yet simple it was. The rice was the perfect texture, and was fried and seasoned beautifully with prik-khing (chili ginger curry paste). PAD THAI COMBO - BEEF ($15.99): This comes with two veggie spring rolls and a green salad, as well as the option to choose your spice level and protein. Of course, I chose medium and beef, and it delivered with the heat. It was so delicious and the noodles ever so springy! My only critique would be that the spring rolls weren't as crunchy due to being packed together, but the glass noodles inside were quite a nice change from my usual spring rolls. THAI ICED TEA ($3.95): My first impression was, "wow, this is a larger serving than expected". It was also pretty to look at the individual layers before mixing. A solid drink - not overly sweet with the right amount of caffeine! KTL clearly surprised me in the best way possible. The dishes were all great and reasonably priced (considering it was through UberEats). Interestingly, there are also different menus depending on the time, with even a Cafe Menu offered from 8:30am to 9:00pm should you desire a sandwich or pastry (none of which appear to be Thai-related). Ordered some Thai food from this unassuming cafe and we were quite happy with our dishes, especially with some great deals on the food delivery apps! We ordered: Pad See Ew (Chicken) - this was our favourite dish with plenty of noodles, chicken, and veggies stir fried in a soy based sauce. This was not spicy or too salty but very flavourful. Their noodles were not overcooked and weren't covered in oil which made it easy to eat a lot of it at once. Green Curry Chicken - this slightly spicy, creamy, coconutty curry was heartily filled with eggplant, chicken and bamboo shoots. The eggplant soaked up all of the delicious sauce and the spicy kick with each bite was perfect with white rice (which came with the curry!). Appetizer Platter - I love how they have this platter so that we could have a small bite of 5 different appies. I found their fried shrimp and and shrimp cakes were a bit over fried (too hard) but the chicken satay was very flavourful and not too dry although it was chicken breast. The fish cakes and spring rolls weren't too special but all together, this assortment made for a perfect platter. Overall, we didnt expect much from Khao Thai but we were very pleased with our meal. HIDDEN GEM in Vancouver I found this place on delivery apps and decided to give it a try. My orders: 1 Green Curry Lunch Combo 2 Pad Thai. The lunch combo comes with a green salad and a spring roll. I absolutely love their spring rolls. Thin skin and rice vermicelli fillings. The green curry my favourite. Rich coconut cream, very milky and just a hint of the spice. Chicken strips and veggies are nicely cooked and soaked in the sauce. Goes so well with rice, I finished all of them easily Pad Thai tastes also good! They are sweeter than I expected, I can tell there are some tomato flavour in it. But I would not recommend to order beef in it, their beef is a bit dry. We don't make it out to Kerrisdale much so, whenever we're in the neighbourhood, it's always a chore to figure out where to eat. I noticed that there was a Thai place nearby and made a mental note to try this place out. When I finally got here, I was a bit confused because the place looked like a coffee shop (not a Thai restaurant). As it turns out, however, they do have a full Thai menu inside the shop and we wound up ordering the Sampler Platter ($15.99) as well as Green Curry Chicken ($13.99) and Pad Thai ($12.99). This appetizer platter was really good and had all of the items that we enjoy... spring rolls, chicken satay, fish cakes, shrimp cakes, and deep-fried prawns. The green curry chicken is exactly what you'd expect from a full Thai restaurant and had tender eggplant, bamboo shoots, red and green peppers, and Thai basil leaves. As expected, the curry sauce goes very well with a bowl of white rice. They use tamarind sauce in their pad thai (instead of ketchup) and this version turned out pretty good. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food in this little coffee shop. Service, while adequate, was a little bit more in line with what you'd expect at a coffee shop than at a sit-down restaurant (we had to seat ourselves and also flag them down to order and get take-out containers and then pay up front at the cashier). One of the best hidden secrets in town. A gem in the hood. Great coffee and pastry aside, they have good authentic Thai food. Try the pad Thai cooked with tamarind and not ketchup. Their spring roll gives a nice bite with the flaky crispy skin. Pineapple rice is another winner. Great taste and a crowd pleaser. More importantly, service is always courteous. read more

Just had dinner there tonight and it was great! Granddaughter and I ventured in, never been there before, but saw some good reviews. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or the inside), large brown (my least favourite colour) cushions, booths and a couple of tables. It appears to be a tea and coffee spot (Legato) that started doing Thai food. And they do that food really well, from what we had. Spring rolls - 4 crispy, flavourful rolls with dipping sauce and shredded carrots $6.99 Pad Thai with chicken - $15.99 Tom Yum soup with chicken - $13.99 (Other included protein options are tofu, beef or mixed veggies, or prawns for $3 more.) Granddaughter had a fresh blueberry smoothie for $6, but ate too much to finish it. Everything was fresh, hot and full of flavour. The soup was very tasty without being spicy hot at all, although I think you can get food hotter if you want. We like it mild. Gdaughter said the pad Thai was the best ever. Portions aren't huge but they are filling and delicious. We both ate too much and next time will get the crispy spring rolls and the pad Thai. The soup broth was very good but neither of us like the huge chunks of tomato so will not order again. Lunch specials are $12.99 including a spring roll and salad. Might try that next. They also serve breakfast items like wraps, omelettes, basic breakfast and what looks like delicious French toast. Coffee included. The young man serving us was very friendly, not pushy at all, answered our questions and brought our food out as soon as it was ready. I am so glad we took a chance on Khao Thai at Legato. The sign outside says Legato so look for that. And don't be put off by the low-key appearance of the interior. The food is delicious! It's great to find another tasty option in the West 41st and West Blvd. area of Kerrisdale. We have tried some others that came up lacking and prices are high and we have been disappointed. Ordered from delivery app and was surprised by the quality of vegetables they put in the green curry. It was very good, as it had a kick to it as I asked for it to be spicy. Only wish the tofu was not fried but they put bamboo shoots, eggplant, green & red bell peppers, lots of veggies for meatless Monday. Bonus, it comes with salad, 2 spring rolls and white Jasmine rice. I also ordered the pad se yew with tofu and it was pretty good. The noodles were more like pad Thai as pad se yew are thicker rice noodles. I also ordered the chicken fried rice which was good, but probably would have preferred their vegetarian fried rice. This cafe looks like a coffee shop from the outside unless you notice the banner advertising Thai food. The cafe was busy during the lunch rush. We managed to get a table for the three of us and ordered lunch specials ($10.99). I ordered the green curry with beef which included a deep fried spring roll and a green salad. The spring roll was one of the better spring rolls I have eaten in awhile. It was fried well and the filling was loaded with noodles and veggies. The green curry was aromatic, flavourful and had an okay amount of beef. I asked for medium spicy and it was what I would expect from an authentic Thai restaurant. Green salad was not memorable. I ordered dinner from here through skip the dishes tonight after reading the other Yelp reviews and was pleasantly surprised. I usually order Thai food from Thai Away Home but have found that their pad thai is on the dry side so I wanted to try a different restaurant. I ordered pad thai with chicken, panang curry with chicken, a side of jasmine rice, and spring rolls. I went for the medium spice level. The pad Thai was flavourful, with a nice kick, and wasn't dry. I also enjoyed the curry. The spring rolls were nice and crispy. All the food arrived well packaged and was still very hot. This little gem is my new go to Thai takeout spot. I had the green curry with beef for two with a side of rice for pick up during the Covid. It was busy for pick up simply cause like myself, people were in the need for a little bit of comfort food. The curry was well spiced and the rice was nice and soft. The reason why there are a few stars knocked off is cause I asked if there was cultlary and napkins to which they said that they were and I trusted them. I went to the park with friends and there was none. Thankfully my buddy had some spare cutlery in his bag still in plastic by luck otherwise it would've been awkward to eat. read more

Found this place on Yelp and despite zero reviews we took a chance. This is a coffee shop with a new offering of Thai food--which explains the lack of reviews. I ordered 3 times before posting this review. The first time I ordered one of their curries with beef from the dinner menu. The beef cubes were excellent and so tender. The second time I ordered the same during lunch but it came with rubber-like beef strips and when I called they explained that the lunch beef was different which was also reflected in the cheaper lunch price. Yesterday I ordered one of the Beef curries again (for the full dinner price) and guess what, it came with the same rubber-like beef strips. Depending on the curry, the vegetables will be either poorly cooked potato cubes or just an excessive amount of red and green pepper. The spring rolls aren't the best I must admit. For all the reasons above I am giving this place 2 starts only. read more

Had a Thai lunch here today and was really impressed. For $10.99, you get your choice of a few different lunch combos and it seemed to me more like dinner sized portions, than lunch sized. I had a nice-sized plate of chicken with veggies and cashews (lots of chicken!) and rice and it included a fresh little side salad and delicious pudgy spring roll. You can park for free in the parking lot on Yew St. off 41st, which is really handy, as from there it's a quick 3 min. walk to the restaurant. The server was great and service was quick and although I had to rush back to work, my friends stayed and had iced coffees (writing this on a hot May day) and I tasted one and was very sad not to be lingering to enjoy one myself. They also offer a large selection of non-Thai items: sandwiches, crossaints, etc. Good prices, a real gem of a place in Kerrisdale. Highly recommended by this happy customer.
