The place is pretty small on the inside, but there is also an E facing patio that must be nice for the summer months. Best to stay in groups of 4 or less. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. Chicken satay skewers - delicious. Nice big chunks (1 chunk per skewer) of meat. Served with peanut sauce and crushed peanuts. Thai beef salad - not as leafy as I would've thought. Lots of cucumber and tomatoes. Tasty chunks of beef. Pad Thai - decent, but nothing special. Portion size was a bit small. Pad kra pao moo sub - minced pork with an inverted bowl of rice. Good flavour. Rice soaks up the sauce quite nicely. Swimming rama with chicken - honestly not that good. Plain pieces of chicken with peanut sauce on top, with some vegetable leaves. Super nice staff & cute little spot with lunch deals until 3PM! This seems to be a popular place for takeout and it does get crowded with people waiting on their food. My friend and I came around 11:30AM and was able to order and get seated. We ordered Pad Si Ew and Thai Coconut Green Curry. Their spice levels are more chill but you can get extra spicy if needed since they cater towards a non-Asian palette. Food was alright; I wished things were more flavorful. 1 star. Came here for dinner with friends on a quiet weeknight. Half the restaurant was empty, no one waiting at the door. That didn't stop our server Kaidy from repeatedly interrupting our meal to rush us out -- before we'd even finished eating, for no apparent reason. What followed was more telling. When she came around to refill water for the table right next to us, she didn't so much as glance in our direction. We were invisible. Whether that was indifference or quiet retaliation for not leaving on her schedule, I'll let you draw your own conclusions. We asked for a water refill. She acknowledged it. Then five, six minutes passed -- nothing. No follow-through, no acknowledgment, just silence. We eventually had to leave our seats and walk up to the bar ourselves to get it done. This is not a staffing-shortage problem or an off night. This is a server who decided certain tables didn't deserve basic service. In Vancouver, where dining out is already a significant expense, being made to feel like an inconvenience in a restaurant is simply not acceptable. The food was okay. Not a bad Thai place for when you want something quick. We came closer to closing time and fortunately made the cut off for taking orders. There are only two small tables and a counter for ordering in, which is pretty small and made it quite uncomfortable since the tables and the counter were so close together. They also don't have a bathroom. Our food arrived fairly quickly and tasted good, but nothing out of this world. I ordered the red curry and was disappointed that the flavor fell flat. It wasn't very spicy either so it just didn't feel like it had a lot of dimension to it. Food was decently portioned, pad Thai was what I had expected and it had a decent amount of spice (I asked for spicy) but still needed some extra chili oil on top (which they provided). Staff are friendly and helped us get a seat to enjoy our meal before they closed for the night. The restaurant is small, 2 tables and 1 bar by the window. Looking for Thai food and in the area so stopped by Thai Away Home. Been quite a while since I was last here...prob 8 yrs. Happy to see they have totally renovated in the past year. While there is still limited seating, everything was bright and clean. Opted for the L9 lunch special, Chicken with cashews. It came with broccoli, carrots and bell peppers all done in the stir fry with rice and a spring roll. Hard to beat at $12.95. The taste and presentation were both quite good. Confused about this place because I ordered from "fried chicken and appetizer world" on ubereats and the address is here. They do have a facebook page though. I ordered a pad thai, which is $12.59, but when I came to the restaurant, the menu is $15 for a pad thai. It seems like they are running a business within a business? The pad thai is in a container that has two compartments so the portion is smaller compared to the pad thai from the actual restaurant. The other compartment was one spring roll. The taste was good and there is no extra charge for prawn which is awesome. However, I'm not sure if $12.59 is justifiable for a portion that is a little more than half of what the restaurant itself offers at $15. It was a good deal on ubereats BOGO. read more

We found this little spot in the Cambie Village through a Facebook ad. That's got to be a first for us. We ordered: - green curry with chicken and eggplant, with a spring roll (The seasoning of the curry was good; the spring roll was the weak link and completely unmemorable.) - crunchy munchy chicken (This was on a special and worth a try.) We noticed too late that we could have ordered brown jasmine rice. That would have been nice. Pricing was very reasonable. This is a good value. Service was decent. The cashier answered our questions and seemed pleasant. Parking was free in the neighborhood or at a meter on Cambie. They should rename this place "Take Away Home". We've been ordering food from this place throughout COVID-19. It's really convenient that you can order online, and then go pick it up. Food is made quickly, and tastes amazing. The deep-fried chicken wings are not to be missed. They are perfectly crispy, and infused with garlic flavor. They come with a tangy dipping sauce, but I prefer eating them sans sauce because they are that good! The key is eating them while they are piping hot. Noodles and rice dishes are standard fare. The curries are terrific, regardless of red/green color. The beef "salad" is refreshing and tangy. Best of all, for around $40, you can get two entrees, a salad and those amazing wings. The chicken in their pad thai is so juicy and flavourful, not dry at all and I love the tamarind based sauce they use for their noodles! I do wish that they had a little wedge of lime! This was my second time ordering from the Cambie location - first time picking up. I was met with a friendly staff member at the counter. I was able to order and pick up quickly - food was still nice and hot when i came back much later than anticipated for it. I was impressed with the takeout portion of the lunch pad thai. The vegetarian spring roll was nice and crispy. Minus one star because when I opened the container I spotted a foreign object that shouldn't be there. It was a piece of clear plastic! My standard order is off the lunch specials menu (most items under $10, available until 4pm daily!), red curry with pumpkin served with a side of salad, rice and spring roll. Water is available in the corner of the restaurant, beside the fridges in the back The curries here are on the salty side for me, but the food still tastes delicious, I just add extra rice and it all balances out. What's with the humidity inside the restaurant? I can see why people do take out here. Food was great value. In terms of taste, the spring roll in the dinner combo was lacking. There wasn't much substance inside, just cabbage. Panang curry was rich, we had it with chicken. There wasn't much of a kafir lime taste that I love about it. Pad Thai - ketchup based sauce. Unfortunately no tamarind flavours here. Loaded with bean sprout. Missing crushed peanuts and a wedge of line. Papaya salad - was delicious. We were in rush and tried to find something easy and quick to bite. I got a pad thai on lunch special. It was a bit sweet for me and only able to find 2 shrimps on the dish. This is one of my go-to places for quick Thai in the Broadway area. Their curries are really good. I've ordered the yellow curry and red curry the most respectively. More often than not the potatoes and pumpkins are not quite cooked enough - they're too hard and chewy. I suppose I've gotten used to it in time. I had the Pad Thai yesterday for the first time and did not like it at all. It lacked flavour and heat. My advice would be to stick to the curries. Counter stuff are always friendly and the food never takes more than 10 minutes to come out. There's a water dispenser and cups for customers to help themselves as well as a variety of curry packages, sauces and desserts that you can buy to go. I've had good luck with the packages as well - just warm up on the stovetop, add some potatoes and protein and you've got an easy meal. Lunch specials are a good deal at $8-10 and curries for dinner(excluding rice) are in the $10-$12 range. Note they used to offer a discount if you showed them your Yelp - I received 10% off. So this is a unique situation but it still shouldn't result in sauceless noodles. My work catered lunch for approx 40 of us which is always a lovely perk with my job, no complaints over the idea of a free lunch. I was looking very forward to Thai food today and it took me more than a couple minutes to decide what I was really feeling off the menu. I settled on the pad Thai, no combo just the pad Thai which comes with shrimp and tofo. I opened up my Tupperware and the noodles weren't super appetizing looking but I thought that's okay it's all about the taste, I could care less about presentation. Slap something on a plate and as long as it tastes great I'm all in. This unfortunately lacked all the flavour, some of my noodles weren't even dressed with the sauce they attempted to put on in the first place, I had to mix the noodles with Sirracha to make them edible. The noodles were also congealed together. The prawns were hard/chewy which immediately turned me off. The tofo was sad and the overall dish felt like it was made in a massive batch and they scrapped the bottom of the pot to fill up my order. I've made much better noodles myself and I'm not even a good cook haha. I know this is a unique situation as it's a catered meal but that shouldn't mean the noodles should suffer as a result. I did hear other coworkers saying the green curry was delicious so mayhaps I picked badly for this round. The portions were fine for lunch, but for dinner I think it would need to be bigger (and probably is). Table next to me ordered Pad Thai, and the portions were big. They seemed happy with the food too. Staff were friendly, and they even deliver the food to your table. Nice! There's a lot of restaurants along this stretch of Cambie, and competition is high. Tried this place at City Square food court for the first time this week. We ordered 5 lunch combos at 9.95 each. Two of the combos we added a thai ice tea which came to $11.90. We had the yellow chicken curry and we were really disappointed. The curry had 3 pieces of uncooked potato and 3 pieces of over cooked chicken. It came with rice and one tiny spring roll. It was absolutely not what I expected for the price I paid. The curry was cold and tasted awful. I think it was microwaved. The other dishes were even worse. Quantities were tiny and quality was cheap and tasteless. There are other much better Thai places to try. I will never ever try this place again. Really disappointed. read more

For the value, taste, authenticity and casual ambience, TAH is a good alternative instead of going to DT or U&I down the street, which is more of a sit-down restaurant and over-priced as well. Thai Away Home, I have a question for you.... WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?! I used to love your Pad Thai. A stop at your Cambie location was a bi-monthly treat that I always looked forward to. But all that changed yesterday. I was on my way home from work, when the light bulb went off in my head. It had been a while since I had treated myself to some Pad Thai, and I had a serious hankering for some Thai deliciousness. I called in my order of chicken Pad Thai (with extra sauce please!) and 15 minutes later, my meal was being handed to me, piping hot and ready to go. I rushed home, eager to lace into my delicious meal. I rushed through my front door, threw my purse/jacket/other purchases on the ground, grabbed a fork from the kitchen and prepared to be transported to the land of Thai-Narnia. I opened the to go box and peeked inside and....Hmmm. Weird. The sauce looks... different. I cautiously brought a sample of the sauce to my mouth and.... IT WAS KETCHUP!!!! I SWEAR TO GAD, IT WAS KETCHUP!!! How can these people try to pass off ketchup as Pad Thai sauce?!?!?! I was shocked, appalled and devastated. Needless to say, I was a bit broken-hearted to have to abruptly end my relationship with Thai Away Home, but I've already picked myself up, dusted myself off, and I'm ready to give a new Thai restaurant a chance.
