Charming through and through. I now am looking forward to seeing another film here. They host the Star Wars Holiday Special annually which really needs to be experienced with an audience so you can suffer together. It proves drugs were prevalent in the 70s. It was a sold out show yet we still got good seats. Concessions were super efficient and thanks for having ice and a reusable cup! For those of us who don't drink beer - it's appreciated.... seriously, I just want a coke with a ton of ice to go with my popcorn. Their popcorn is pretty awesome! read more

Popcorn was 20% seeds, $1 charge for butter. The night I visited, they ran out of pizza If I had know in advance I would have bought dinner before I came. We were in the area visiting another business but while walking by the Kiggins Theatre we saw a classic movie we wanted to see was playing in about an hour so we stuck around since we had already found parking a block away. I don't know what it is about older theatres but I just love them. I prefer these smaller theatres over big box ones because as someone with an interest in urban planning I just think they fit so much better into our communities, help create community and aren't eyesores. The tickets were very fairly priced, the concession stand had great options to choose from and the seats were comfortable. We drove in from SW PDX to watch last night's 6 PM showing of The Brutalist at the Kiggins--a 10 mile, 20" drive, no traffic. It was a great show at a great venue with a great staff serving great popcorn and great pepperoni pizza. We loved the close captioning as well. My husband was a year away from being born when the big-screen, Art Deco Kiggins opened in 1936. That the theatre was toasty warm on a cold February evening all added up to an all-around delicious evening out. read more

What a fantastic theater in downtown Vancouver, WA with a lot of history, too! You get to enjoy the feeling of being transported back in time to another era with the interesting architectural and design details of this theater that buildings these days usually lack. AND you get to enjoy all this while watching some excellent films on a quality digital projection system & great sound system to boot! I highly recommend signing up for their emails or following them on facebook to get the latest updates on the variety of films they are showing. They often have acclaimed independent films and documentaries along with fun family flicks (Christmas Vacation on the big screen? Yes, please!) and timeless classics (Casablanca? Oh my, yes!) They also regularly show The Rocky Horror Picture Show and some other cult classics at various times of the year as well as hosting other events such as Comedy on Tap. But wait, there's more! They have a bar area upstairs that serves beer & wine that you can take into the theater. Plus their prices on concession stand snacks & soda were quite reasonable in comparison to the big chain theaters (for example, just $10 for a medium combo of medium soda & medium popcorn when that would easily cost you at least $16 at the big chain theaters). Oh, and did I mention they truly have THE BEST popcorn around? Popcorn is one of my all-time favorite foods and theirs is truly the best movie theater popcorn I've ever had. They must buy some premium quality big kernels of popcorn (but serve it to you at below-premium prices!) because they pop up some big, fluffy popcorn there. And if you want butter on your popcorn they use real clarified butter (make mine a double!). Last, but certainly not least, the staff there are all very nice! read more

This is a nice family owned theater in downtown Vancouver. The prices are comparable to other bigger theater chains, $10 for "day of" admission, or $7 for advanced tickets online or walk-up. Mondays are $6 all day. Their movies range from independent to classic. This theater was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2012. The concession stand is pretty small, but they have a pretty good selection of food and beverages...at comparable theater prices. They have complimentary ice water in the hallway outside the theater. The seats are a lot nicer than I remember from the last time I saw a movie here, but the prices are higher too, so maybe that's why...upgrades. You can also sign up for their newsletter on their website and they will send you an email with their new weekly movies. Overall, I love the old theater feel, the huge vintage sign out front and the quaint size of this theater (single screen). I'll definitely be back! read more

John P. Kiggins (1868-1941) is largely responsible for laying the groundwork of the Vancouver that we know today. He was Mayor for 4 terms between 1909-1938 (not consecutively) but his trade was as a builder. His legacy is all around present day Vancouver from the Kiggins Bowl Stadium to various office buildings. However Kiggins passion was moving pictures. His passion led him to building an ornate palace to this new entertainment media. Now, in this new age of movie theaters with stadium seating, sound systems that can realistically put you on Omaha Beach on D-Day, digital this and Dolby that we find ourselves craving that movie experience from our childhood. There, standing the test of time, newly rebuilt with a passion that rivals that of John P. Kiggins himself is the Kiggins Theater. I walked in past the tiny ticket booth and I was transformed back to the old Fox Theater in Pomona, California, where I spent my childhood watching everything from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to Disney's The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. The snack bar looked great, it was clean and the popcorn smelled heavenly. Tasted even better. And the prices! So inexpensive! The theater is large with ornate light fixtures, velvety looking curtains and the seats were the only thing definitely looking 21st Century. Thank you Kiggins owners for putting smart money in the right places. Another thing that impressed me was the sound system, very up to date and crystal clear. I am definitely in love with this theater. Now we do not have to cross the river to get that old tyme theater experience anymore. The Kiggins is back, as grand as the day she opened with new touches in the right places. Long may she shine as the cultural beacon of downtown Vancouver. read more

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this theater. Where else can you see A Christmas Story while sitting in plush leather seats with a bucket of popcorn dripping with real butter with a pint sized glass of beer at hand---for less than $20? HERE! Yes, my English teacher might not approve of the run-on sentence, but that is inconsequential! With a history spanning from 1936 to today, there is no shortage of historic charm...retro lighting features, classic movies, an antique projector in the entry way....this is a destination for those of us that appreciate preserving the times of yesteryear while enjoying the comforts of the present. Christmas trees with sparkly white lights adorned the stage before the movie began, and classic Christmas music played softly in the background. It set the holiday mood for our brief sojourn...we are anxious to return. read more

I'm able to go to the movies again!!! My partner and I went for their first opening show since closing for the pandemic. It was safe, the seats were spaced out and every other row was closed off. I can't tell you how great it felt being able to support this business again as they've been struggling through this like so many other small businesses. If you feel comfortable going out in public I really recommend this. Mandatory mask wearing and physical distancing were being practiced and they are currently only at 25% capacity so again, we felt quite safe. Fun stop and one of my old haunts. It's a bit of an abnormal theater, but Fun and way more comfortable. The guy who owns it is a great guy, and you can't top being able to watch old classics, as well as b movies, on the big screen! My wife and I were just here for the Bride of Frankenstein and were pleasantly surprised to discover profits today going to help a youngster fighting leuchemia! Isn't that great! E side of Main St. just S of W 11th St. John Kiggins' influence is easily found all over the Vancouver area as one of the Vancouver's former mayors for 4 terms (even during Prohibition mind you...what a Badass) this comes as no surprise. Kiggins loved moving pictures which thus led to the building of this most beautiful and clean theater. This theater serves as a perfect example of Movie Theaters of days gone by from the large, bright, beautiful marquee out front, to the classic movies shown, to the seating, to the sound system, or even to the old school Ticket Booth where tickets can be purchased. This place really does take one back... but in a good way. Here you won't find a huge booming sound system that's played at levels that are meant to put you in the movie instead opting for the original type system with two clear sounding speakers located in front giving one more of a feeling of watching a movie more privately almost like on a very large projection TV in a large screening room. The soft leather reclining seats are very comfortable and all have Cupholders to store your drink if you have one...don't have one, but want to get a little more comfortable or closer to someone special? You're covered because the Armrests go up! Seating is well spread out allowing one to easily stretch out his or her legs. The Snack Bar had a good variety and while prices were a little on the higher side compared to non-movie house markets, their prices are still lower than the big guys! Their website is well laid out and easily navigable. Prior to the reopening of Kiggins Theater one would have to travel across the river to experience an old time theater, but thanks to KT people in the Vancouver area have this gem to come and enjoy. When I went I was literally the only person watching the movie. I truly hope this is not indicative of the norm because this place is definitely worthy of many fans. Peeps that would like to imbibe before taking in a flic can rejoice by partaking in either beer or wine in their bar (Washington will not permit alcohol in the main auditorium.) There is either street parking or a dedicated lot located on the corner of Broadway & 9th. Prices for events or movies here are a Recession busting free to $5. General seating, easy on street parking which is free after 6pm and a nice selection of bevs/snacks. During the cooler months, plan on bundling up with thicker socks and maybe stashing a pair of gloves for extra warmth. Run, run, run! We arrived at the theater exactly at 9:00 p.m. -- their website's posted hour for the start of the movie (but not Fandango's -- Fandango is often wrong for Vancouver theaters, I've noticed); the person we bought our tickets from told us that they started the movie about 5 minutes early, as it was a double feature, and no one in the theater said they were expecting anyone. Interesting. The first movie wasn't something I'd watch if you glued my eyelids open and tied me to a chair aimed at it. Long movie. A real bladder-buster. Fortunately, I was well-acquainted with the story (having read the book years before, and again recently), so the bits I missed didn't cause problems. After the show was over, I had the chance, while discussing the film with His Goatness, to look around -- the theater was in serious need of repair. The seats were threadbare and rickety, with sprung springs and whole sections blocked off as unsafe. Reminded me of the theater in St. Kitts, which had given over the entire lower floor to rats the size of monkeys and cockroaches the size of rats -- primarily because the theater served beer in bottles, and the patrons persisted in throwing the bottles over the balcony. At least the patrons here didn't have shouted conversations on cell phones during the film. Still, I will happily patronize a second-run or art-house theater any day over the sleek, modern, clean megacorp multiplexes -- with their hour of commercials, fer cryin' out loud, their obnoxious P.C. "courtesy" reminders, and their godsawful prices... they offend me. read more

I always have such a good time here. They're the only theater in the area that plays My Little Pony. I take my daughter and we have such a blast. Popcorn is delicious and I was excited to see they were a part of the FiveStar rewards program. Before the film showed, they thanked everyone for coming and requested the Bronies keep language PG due to the fact that there were 30 little girls in the audience, which was appreciated. We all clapped and sang along and had such a wonderful MLP experience! read more

Came here for a Science on Tap event. Cute charming theater with a concessions area that sells popcorn including real butter, soda, candy etc. Staff was very friendly. There were free rolled up posters in a box. The theater was quite large and the seats were firm and comfy. Very clean and well kept theater. I will come again for another event for sure! Parking is free on the street after 6pm mon-fri. The parking is metered but the meters are deactivated after 6pm on weekdays :) We were able to find parking easily at 6.30pm on a Tuesday. read more

This a fantabulous place! One of my favorite theaters. Affordable and invested in the community. A cultural icon of the 'Couve. Don't be afraid to dive in and get your brain wet, when they are showing an old classic or unfamiliar cult offering. Parking can be a drama downtown so make a night of it -dinner and show. I am counting down for DOCTOR WHO. Free live broadcasts with other crazed and costumed whovians, prizes and cheap treats! Also comfy wheelchair accessible theater and bathrooms. (Not accessible, but fun: the upper balcony.) read more

Great science on tap nights. Love that they renovated and kept the building. Consessions are unfortunately just as costly as any mainstream theater but there is beer, hard cider and pizza available upstairs. You can bring your drinks in the theater. On science nights you can compete to win a glass emblazoned with "science on tap". Those are a lot of fun as well as learning new information. read more

Love this theater. However...we went to see Echo in the Canyon... the sound was awful! Still a great film, but if you're going to show a film about music, please please please make sure the sound is functioning as the film makers intended. Only the center channel seemed to be working. I really want to see the Cure film, but will see it elsewhere if this sound issue isn't resolved. Come on now...we want to celebrate our local theater! read more

Well, I went to Anecdotal Evidence (a 'Couve version of Live Wire), and have yet to catch a flick. But, it was amazing to bump into the owner and talk about all her grand plans for the future of this historic theater that CANNOT disappear from downtown Vancouver. They've got a charming bar space on the second floor where you can sup a cider before hitting the show. Then, grab a bag of tasty, tasty (CHEAP, by movie theater standards) popcorn and settle in for your show. I was more than content to sit in my seat for two hours and listen to hilarious tales, and the sound was more than awesome. It's places like this that make me want to get out and brave dealing with the annoying public to see a show. Bonus that I've seen such amazing old features on queue. Thank goodness this landmark has been saved, nay, resurrected! read more

I would like to say that this movie theater is rather nice. It is in downtown Vancouver. There is parking on the other side. There is a place where you can buy popcorn. The movies are not as current as one would assume - but the opposite side is that you have a theater that does have age and comfort in spades. The seats are lovely. The commercials are a bit long. Kiggins is awesome in so many ways. People really need to get down here and check it out. The new owner has sunk everything in to remodeling, updating and paying for better movies. The concessions are the best priced around and at $5 average per movie, it's still a steal. Do you have a favorite TV show? Well, chances are they have the rights to show it to you and all your friends and it's free to get in! What? Oh no they didn't...oh yes they did. And then there's the auditorium. It's simply awesome. It's restored with amazing leather high-back reclining seats. You can actually stretch your legs. Seriously, you could put your arms behind your head and push your feet all the way forward on the floor and still not hit the person in front of you. The staff are some of the best around. They really like working there (or at least are good at pretending. I really wish that Washington would allow alcohol in the auditorium like in Oregon...this place would do at least double the business because there is a cool little bar upstairs that serves beer and wine and snacks. Here's the kicker...the bar is literally behind the classic original lit marquee...just open the windows and there's the historic sign in all it's glory right there! High ceilings everywhere, decent movies, alt movies, classics (especially 80's), great prices, fantastic sound, best seats around, and amazing popcorn at better prices. These are hallmarks of Kiggins. And when you're done, walk to an amazing bar or restaurant or cafe close by. So why the missing 5th star? 1. There needs to be something warning people of the steps in the rows in the auditorium...I've seen too many people trip over it in the dim light (including me, and recently, and old lady who almost totally bit it). Just put some yellow paint on those and you're good. 2. They need better movies...but that requires more of you all to go and pay to be there so they can afford those crazy fees from hollywood to show first-run movies. 3. I really want them to improve the inside of that outside box office and actually use it...that would be awesome. Go here. You will like it. Get there early and get a drink and snack. read more

Never went pre-renovation, but from the sound of it here on Yelp, and the look of it now, I was pleasantly surprised. For a second-run theater, this is about as good as it gets. Everything is modernized, clean and cheap. Movies are $4, concessions are as cheap as they get for a theater, and the seating is fantastic. Plenty of roomy seating, and the chairs are some of the most comfortable I've sat it in. One minor complaint: During a quiet 5-10 minute stretch of the movie, I could hear two employees talking out in the concession area. Considering they have curtains, and not doors, you would think they would be more aware; thus, not talk loud enough to the point of where I can hear word for word, what they are saying, as I sit just a few rows up from the screen. However, after I could no longer stand the distraction, opting to ask if they could quiet it down, they obliged and I never heard them again. Otherwise, the staff was great. Glad to have this place in downtown Vancouver. Hope people discover/rediscover this great theater. read more

I'm happy to Yelp that the Kiggins has had a facelift. New owners, new seats, new carpet, new bathrooms, new EVERYTHING. Yes, they've fixed the flooding water in the ladies' restroom and the creaky floor in the men's restroom. You will no longer get a gut rumble from their hot dogs because everything is CLEANED thoroughly after each movie and the entire vending area has been remodeled and now meets code and health standards. My husband describes it as "a facelift for an old friend"...They still feature great prices for movies, but BETTER than EVER. Staff is amazing, they care about your movie snacks and don't gouge you like the big boys of Regal. Extra butter is no trouble, neither is a refill for your beverage. My favorite - the vintage atmosphere can't be beat ! This art deco theatre built in the 1930's was wearing her wrinkles badly. A new owner ripped out the old wooden seats and installed NEW, soft, wide seats. Work is still happening on the sound system and stage. Upstairs, they just put in a bar. They have beer, wine, and spirits. No food at the bar as of yet, but they are always working on something new. I'm so glad this jewel was brought from the edges of ruin and despair to live again in downtown Vancouver! The Kiggins is once again part of our date nights and I'm glad for it. read more
