I haven't been here in a long time and just happened to be in the area. I ordered meat jun and mandoo. I dont know what it is, but the coating on the meat jun is goooood. I like both sauces that they have, one sweet and one spicy. What made the experience really good was the service. The restaurant has a family feel to it. The workers seemed to know almost everyone who came thru the door. That's a rare sight to see. I'm glad that the community is supporting local. read more

Korean cuisine in Kaneohe... When I lived in Honolulu, I used to dine at the Kim Chee Restaurant that used to be across from McKinley School. (It's gone now.) This restaurant was known for its generous portions. The Kaneohe location is no different. Kim Chee I is situated on Kamehameha Highway between Aloha Gas Station and the Kaneohe Post Office. This Kim Chee Restaurant shares its name with the restaurants in Kaimuki, Mo'ili'ili, Aiea, and Kailua. I was craving bibim kook soo one day. This dish had carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts, cucumbers, and watercress tossed in a light broth flavored with sesame oil. It was accompanied by slices of smokey, tasy, teriyaki style BBQ beef and comforting room temperature noodles! Yum! Most recently, I wanted kalbi. It's barbecued short ribs, marinated in teriyaki sauce. I saw the two-choice plate and selected the kalbi with shrimp tempura to go. It came with two kinds of kimchee, bean sprouts, seaweed, and rice. It was so delicious and filling! My next dining goal was to get the Lunch Special which is 2 choices for $10.99. The catch is to go on a weekday, but not on Tuesday because they're closed. I finally went on a Monday and enjoyed the boiled mandu (dumplings) and kalbi... so good! The Lunch Special is such a deal because it comes with rice and banchan of seaweed, bean sprouts, cabbage, and 2 kinds of kimchee! We used to come here a lot when I was growing up (over 30 years ago!). Great to see places like these still going strong. I'll admit, it has been AGES since I've been here. but after my recent take-out experience, I'll definitely be coming here more often. We were celebrating my SIL's b-day and I wanted to order from a place that had food for the whole family (i.e. something the kids would eat). I decided to give Kim Chee's Family Pack #1 a try. The pack included: sliced kal bee, BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, meat jun, fried mando, rice, kim chee, and assorted vegetables. I also added side orders of chop chae (beef) and cold tofu. The total came out to a little over $100. My order was ready at my desired pick up time, and one of the employees helped me take the food to my truck - great service! Everyone loved the food, especially the cold tofu (which came with a heap of vegetables on top) and the chop chae. There were leftovers for my mom to enjoy the next day. 5 stars because this IS the best Korean Restraunt in kaneohe! Through the years, my family enjoyed their food. The prices are higher but the food is still very tasty! Take out only during this Covid time. Its about 15-20 minutes wait from the time of order. Kim Chee 1 is one of those restaurants that I keep telling myself that I would have to try but never did, until now. I like the other Kim Chee restaurants and had my hopes up because they have been in the same spot forever so they had to be good. My wife and I got there at about 12:00 and were fortunate to score a space in the lot. While looking through the menu we realized that the combination lunch specials were a great deal for just $12.99. You choose two entrees to make your plate. I chose BBQ pork and shrimp katsu, while my wife ordered the BBQ beef and vegetable tempura. The banchan they served us was a simple cabbage Kim Chee and dried daikon Kim Chee. I thought that the cabbage Kim Chee tasted a little weird but the daikon was ok. The seaweed soup also had a weird taste to it and it was slightly over salted. When our meals arrived I noticed that my shrimp katsu looked a little dark and sure enough it tasted burnt. My BBQ pork tasted ok but it was on the dry side. My wife's tempura wasn't what she expected. Instead of individual vegetables battered and fried she got 2 huge clumps of tempura with the vegetables mixed together forming a large ball, it wasn't good and neither was their sauce which probably would be better with meat jun. Her BBQ beef was also on the dry side. The portions here are huge and the service was friendly but we probably won't come back because of the food quality. Even the side vegetables were bland and the bean sprouts tasted sour. And, the last thing is their rice was a little hard. I really wanted to like this restaurant but it was just one disappointment after another. read more

Yassssss!! Just like that we have found a spot for Korean food! From the outside this place may look a little skeptical as it seems to be hidden. It's definitely a somewhat hidden gem! oh man are you in for a treat if you stop in! I didn't catch the gentlemans name serving food! But he was super nice and very very helpful! He made sure that we knew what we were eating our selves into ( get it, eating our selves) okay sorry I crack myself up sometimes LOL Anywho, after a quick run down my little family was ready to order! My daughter and I landed on the bbq beef, it was sooooooo good. I recommend the small portion. I always have trouble finishing my food, this was pretty easy for me to finish and I won't eat again tonight. My baby girl is obsessed with white rice lately and was oh so happy when she realized that her meal came with a generous portion. Finally, kimchee I recently had some and have been quite obsessed every since! It's good and it's actually healthy when eaten in a regular portion, but it's vegetables! Love, love, it! We normally order the family pack #2 because we like the variety: rice, veggies (sprouts, cabbage & seaweed), kimchi, shrimp tempura, kalbi, chicken katsu, bbq chicken & meat jun.. I think that's everything for $65 & it's large portions (supposed to feed a family of 4-5). I am personally not a big fan of the bbq chicken but everything else is DELISH! I was so excited to try this location but unfortunately it no where near met my expectations nor the reputation it has. Looks are very deceiving because the appearance looked great but the meat jun was unbelievably dry. Even with the sauce the meat was so dry and tough. The portion was decent but nothing compared to what you'd get at kimchee 7 for basically the same price. Rice was mushy in some areas. Kalbi lacked flavor and wasn't cooked properly. It was especially raw near the bone so my partner couldn't even finish all the meat. The seaweed soup bowl smelled strongly of detergent. It's nice to know that the they are cleaning their dishware but when it makes the food taste like soap because the smell is so strong then that is way too off putting The kimchee just isn't good. I don't like this style of kimchee that these restaurants give out. They didn't bother to peel the daikon either I like when businesses stay true to their old charm and original classic look but the restaurant was dirty and had a musty smell. This place is a total gem! Our local friends recommended we go here and so we stopped by. The wait was over an hour due to large parties celebrating graduations but the wait was totally worth it. Our party of 7 split the kimchi chigae and it was like my umma used to make! Such good memories when eating this soup! I got the meat jun and fried mandoo and it was perfection! The dipping sauces were perfect and the mandoo is like nothing I've had before on the mainland or anywhere really. It's almost like crispy fried on the outside but Kind of steamed on the inside. They open at 9am for breakfast. Super under rated for breakfast. Huge portion and add ons are so reasonable! Their breakfast plates come with 2 eggs, choice of 2 meats and rice or hash browns. I normally order mines with rice and get a side order of hash browns. They have a good selection of meat options from your typical bacon and corned beef hash to this amazing Teri burger patty that is basically chopped up kalbi formed into a burger. Breakfast is also served with kimchee (cabbage)(daikon) and seaweed soup. Service is always great, I will continue to have breakfast here whenever I have a chance. I ate here a while ago with some friends. I enjoyed their kimchi (cabbage). I believe my I shared a combo with my husband. It had fish jun and meat jun. The fish jun was a little too battered and think for my liking. It also had dark pieces which I don't like, but other might! With each combo, it comes with rice and seaweed soup! It was pretty good. The service was really good too. Our server filled our waters and the kimchi when we ran out. Parking is limited and is not great. The side is narrow and there are pot holes. I wouldn't say this is authentic Korean food but it's good for family's and can eat family style. read more

The center booths can hold 8 people comfortably. Haven't been here in a while. Can I just say that the guy at the counter had such a pleasant demeanor and he shared the specials with us. He hand delivered our order to our car. We got a bbq chicken and shrimp tempura combo along with all the sides. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and it reminded me of a hibachi chicken. My hubby ate the the shrimp and sait it was a good sized shrimp with enough batter. My son had the kalbi and bbq chicken combo which he enjoyed. The sides were the perfect compliment to the plates. We've been here a few times over the years. Last week we got the family pack. It's a good deal for the quantity. But all of the meat was overly charred. I like some bbq smokiness, but this burnt taste just overwhelmed the meat. The veggies that came with the pack were also disappointing, just bean sprouts, cabbage, and seaweed. Tasted ok but was hoping to get some choy sum and/or pickled radish/carrots. The pack included a good sized container of kimchee, plus sauces. I don't usually use sauce for bbq meat but it needed it. My coworker and I dined here yesterday for lunch, and upon sitting down the group seated in the booth next to us warned us there was a cockroach running around in there and we should move. Despite my best "please read my mind and let's run for our lives" stare I gave my coworker I found myself seated on the other side of this restaurant so I texted my friend the dilemma and she replied with "ask them what's good, they're obviously regulars," and with that I resigned myself to the fact that I was in fact going to eat here. I've eaten at Kimchee 7 several times in Aiea, but this was my first time at this location and the prices seemed lower than I remembered paying in Aiea. If you're dining during the weekday at lunch, they have a great lunch special offered until 3:30 where you pick two items from a list of over ten choices. All meals come with kimchee, soup, and the meal which also comes with rice and vegetables for just $10.25. I ordered the Meat Jun and Vegetable Tempura and my coworker ordered the Meat Jun and BBQ Beef. The beef in both the meat jun and bbq beef was tough and a bit chewy and the coating to the meat jun was also a bit over cooked. The vegetable tempura was spot on and not greasy which can be an issue when served in more of a pancake form. Service was attentive given how crowded they were at the time. The parking lot here is an absolute nightmare so I'd recommend street parking if can. Overall the food was average. I can't say I'd go back necessarily given what I noted earlier in my review but definitely a place to keep in mind for cheap weekday eats. read more
