The prices here are reasonable and our guests nearly ate it all during the party. Katie was extremely nice and this will be top of mind for future events. It's tuck inside and at the end of the plaza and it's not noticeable unless you know. This place is more of party trays place. But in a great way, you got to order in advance at least a day (depending on what your orders). But they do have sandwiches, and street snacks plus smaller version of the party tray, if that is available. I came, I ordered and witness folks trying to get whatever available since they forgot to order in advance when they just opened. I was trying to scout out Kim Huong to cater for an upcoming gathering (after reading so many glowing reviews on Yelp) and was not at all disappointed! So glad I went out of my way to make this stop because I would've never found this spot otherwise. Kim Huong is tucked in a nondescript back corner of a strip mall off of Bolsa. Parking is readily available. I was warmly greeted by the (presumed) shop owner Katie upon entering; boy, I wanted to try ALL the things. I ended up picking up a few banh baos, pate chaud/pate so, and two che's to try, and Katie threw in some first-timer freebies for me, which was unnecessary though very much appreciated. But beyond that kind gesture, the five star is because everything is actually really good! I sound surprised because I am. My bar for catered food somehow is two notches lower than standard as I've never been blown away by catered meals, but the banh bao and pate chaud are even better than the ones I've had from shops specializing in these items (ahem Yummy Banh Bao). This review is way overdue! My sister introduce me to this place. She ordered it for my niece's birthday, and ever since then we've been getting it for family parties. Everyone loves the food, and there hasn't been a single dish I didn't enjoy. Everything is always super fresh and ordering is really easy. The pricing is also very reasonable, which I appreciate. Just make sure to order ahead because some dishes need a little extra notice. This place has honestly saved me so many times when I needed last-minute food for an event. Stopped by for a quick grab and go lunch on a Sunday around 2 PM. Sadly, most of their popular items (I.e. banh bao and the pate chaud) were already sold out by this time. We ended up getting Banh Bot Loc, Banh Bao (refrigerated), and pandan honey comb cake. The Banh Bot Loc is a bit pricier than the other items I saw, but worth it for the chewy and very filling dumplings. Each dumpling consists of tapioca starch clear skin wrapped around a large dried shrimp + toppings of scallion, fried shallots, and chili pepper. I would say some pieces were a little hard, probably since these were made in the morning. A little reheat fixes this. Also, it's a bit oilier than I expected and the dipping sauce is on the sweeter side but my partner didn't seem to mind. I preferred eating them without the dipping sauce. I would also have preferred more scallions. The pandan honey comb cake edge pieces were a bit on the drier side, but the other pieces were pretty standard in terms of taste and texture. Still very satisfying! The Banh Bao, I microwaved for 40 seconds, which was just right. It would be tastier steamed if you have the patience. The filling consists of pork, egg, and Chinese sausage. This was my favorite. The only thing I'd improve upon is the bread/bun which was a bit more doughy and less fluffy than I prefer. It could be because we got the refrigerated version. However the tasty and unique filling makes up for it. Reasonable prices and a great place for a quick bite. Great service. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. She gives you utensils and napkins without being asked to. No seating as this is a takeout only place. Only one other person was ordering before us. Parking is plentiful in this plaza. They take credit card with a minimum spending of $10. I also like that tax is already baked into the pricing so you pay for exactly what you see. I ordered through the phone for a pickup order for the next day and got 20 orders of Pate So. While ordering the owner's daughter I'm assuming let us know it might not be enough as they were pretty bite sized and recommended that we get maybe 25 orders 30. We ended up with 30 and I'm so glad we did as that ended up being the perfect amount for our group! Pickup was super easy, we gave her a time we'd like to come (they close at 5pm) and when we got there the food was already prepared and sitting under a warming light which I appreciated. She advised us to not heat it up and wrapped it up in a way where the Pate So wouldn't get soggy and still stay warm. We weren't going to serve these until a few hours later and when we finally did we were shocked that it was actually still pretty warm. I would highly recommend placing your order the day before as they don't have much for instant pickup if you do decide to pop in the store. It has been a year since I've been back to Kim Huong and we are due for an updated review. Katie and her mom (owner) never ceases to amaze me. Not only do they make delicious food, but they continue to be inspired to make new items and improve on existing ones! I recently tried their mini banh baos and not only are they smaller than the ones they used to serve, but they taste even better! The meat to bun ratio is perfect. I love that the bun is slightly sweeter because it goes so well with the savory filling. I also love that the bottom of the baos do not rip off with the paper lining like most places because it gets too soggy. Another new item that I tried was the giant glutinous footballs ($2). They are similar to the ones you get at dim sum, but better quality. It's super crispy and the inside filling is better than what you'd typically find at dim sum places. The mien xao ($50/medium tray) is one my favorite items to order. It comes with so much meat, veggies, and crab! It also reheats in the microwave very well so I can bring it to work for lunch. The lotus salad ($35/small) is also another favorite of mine. It's refreshing and full of crispy/crunchy texture. As you can tell from the reviews, Katie is such a joy to work with. For 2024 New Year's Eve, I was able to text Katie with my call ahead order: 12 Banh Pate So (Pate Chaud) $18; 50 Egg Rolls $50; 25 Count-Chicken Wings $40; Texting Katie was so easy and convenient and this way I was guaranteed getting my hands on those Pate So that sells out daily so quickly! The ordering was process is the way to go, especially if one can only speak English, like me. Once I gave texted Katie my order, she confirmed the order and sent me a photo of my invoice. My total was $108 for the order referenced above. Accurate and painless, coupled with awesome customer service!! Katie even sent me a photo of their price list that I now have an easy way to know what is offered and the pricing. I arrived at the pre-determined pick up date and time. Katie was there to greet me and advise me the staff was just finishing up preparing/wrapping my trays for the long journey home to keep warm. All of the trays were carefully wrapped and easy to transport. Katie also threw in a few extra goodies for me to try and to apologize that the Pate So was not available on my first visit. I really appreciated Katie's thoughtfulness and kind gesture as a small business owner where every penny counts. One of the goodies she gave me was a couple of Pate So for the road. At first, I intended on bringing them home so both the wife and I could try them at the same time. Well, that was a short lived notion. Wow, what a great tasting Pate So! A generously meat filled baked buttery delicate dough pillow of deliciousness!! Yeah, sorry honey, these damn things were so good, I wolfed down the second one before I drove out of the parking lot. My family had the same ethereal experience I did. I was lucky to get one more before the family devoured them all. The same with the chicken wings. These Asian style fried wings were one of the most delectable fried wings any of us had ever had. The wings had a delicate yet memorable coating and the wing meat itself was properly cooked and juicy. Katie was right the extra fried coating crumbs in the bag were just as tasty as the wings. I'm gonna take her up on her suggestion of having those fried crumblings sprinkled on their fried rice that is offered there too. The egg rolls were equally yummy as the first time I bought some as mentioned in my first review of Kim Huong. I am so glad that I was able to get ahold of those infamous Pate So and chicken wings! I spent $130 to order : - 40 Bo La Lot (incredibly hard to find) - 20 Cha Gio - 50 pieces of Banh Beo - 6 banh da lon - 10 individual cups, a mix of Che dau trang and Che Khoai Mon Pandan - container of nuoc Cham Everything was so delicious and perfectly paired with the Ca Nuong we made at home. Ordering process was easy, was nice to not have to stop by and pay cash as a deposit since I live in Irvine. I had so much Bo La lot leftover because my fatass thought it wouldn't be enough but I froze it and it is perfect to eat later especially if you are on a high protein diet. Long overdue for this review! I ordered a few party tray for a small going away party for a friend and it was such a hit! Customer service: amazing! I ordered the day before the party and I was so lucky that Katie took my call last minute. I realize they close at 5pm on weekdays and for party trays, the order must be placed at least a day in advance. I called right at 4:58pm right before closing and thankfully they are true to their hours and serving their customer up until closing time. A lot of places would have def just ignore calls anywhere near closing. Ordering: easy For party tray preorders, you have to provide a deposit for your order via credit card over the phone and pay remaining in store. This is pretty standard for mom and pop shops filling party size orders, so I had no issues with it. Pick up: Ready to go I came the next day to pick up and everything was kept warm and ready to go. Katie even assisted me with bringing the trays out to my car. Also gave me some extra Vietnamese dessert on the house. Sweetest mom and pop shop ever! Food: - Com Chien (fried rice): this was probably one of the better party tray fried rice I've ever ordered. The flavor was so good, you can taste all the different ingredients they used and it brings out the flavor in the rice. I could literally eat this only and be happy. - Banh Beo (rice cake with dry shrimp crumbles): Banh Beo was good and fair price.
