Everything we ordered was outstanding. The Army Stew hot pot was packed with flavor and easily fed three people, even though it's listed for two. We also enjoyed the kalbi, BBQ ribs, and mandu, and every bite was delicious. The banchan was excellent too--the kimchi, fish cakes, kimbap, and even the onions and jalapeños were fresh and full of flavor. What really made the experience special was the owner. She came over to chat with us, made us feel incredibly welcome, and even gave us a complimentary noodle packet to enjoy with our leftovers. There are better restaurants in Bakersfield serving Korean food. We wanted to give this new restaurant a chance but when your food gets burnt, the waitress and chef (most likely owners) come out to tell you, "the food is not burnt, it's supposed to be cooked this way", something just doesn't sit right with me about that. I know what burnt food tastes and smells like, I've had Korean meat before and it was not burnt nor cooked "that way". I appreciate the touch of local and encourage supporting the community and small businesses but if the food isn't good, it's just not good. read more

I was craving for some soup and Kimchee Korean came up as a search result with may soup options to pick from. I decided to come here. They are located on the outskirts of the same plaza Trader Joes is in, off Coffee and Stockdale. There was plenty of parking to choose from. The interior looked clean and modern. Staff gave me 2 options of the small tables to pick from. I picked the one away from this loud kid. But then the staff was like ohh it's cold here. I'm like it's fine. But after sitting there for a while... it wasn't the cold that bothered me, it was the AC unit spitting water at me that was annoying. I wouldn't want it to leak down into my food. So I moved... he was probably thinking oh she got cold... Actually he probably wasn't thinking about me at all cause no one came to get my order for the longest time. I had to go to the front to look for them. Like... ughh was I suppose to order at the register?? Nope. Just forgotten. Anyways when they finally took my order I got the Samgyetang ($25). This is a soup dish where a whole young chicken is stuffed with sticky rice, ginseng, jujube, and garlic. The chicken is chilling in a nurturing broth. The meal also came with 4 side dishes and a purple grain rice. The side dishes were about average. The purple grain rice is normally something I enjoy but not to much when theres already sticky rice inside the chicken. That's too much rice for me. It was hard to enjoy the meal when one of the lady staff who I didn't have any interactions with seemed more focused on feeding her kid. Then the kid was loudly reacting to a loud tablet. I don't care about your parenting style putting your kids on tablets but I care that the volume is so loud that I can hear it even after putting on my headphone pretty loud in effort to drown out the noise. Can you get some headphones? Same lady was like hollering at her kid from another part of the restaurant. I'm fine with people bringing their kids to work, but they put zero effort into the customer's experience. Honestly if this dish was something like a rice dish I would have taken it togo, but this dish was best eaten in restaurant. When it arrived my first few bites were really salty since they garnished it with a lot of salt and pepper on top. It didn't need that much salt and pepper on top. I flipped the chicken around to mellow out the seasoning and it was less bad but still on the salty side. The experience as a whole was just so stressful. If it was just the food being a tad salty, I could come back and tell them less salt... but... the lacking service is the bigger issue here. As I conclude this review and debate on what to rate it... I can't give them anything more than a 3... and that's really kind of me because a 3 is saying it's okay/average. This was definitely below average. read more

Kimchee Korean is a solid place that likes to do Korean food the way it should be done. Clearly from home cooked Korean food, you can get typical western favorites and some traditional items. This is the first restaurant I have seen in Bakersfield to serve Samgyetang! Done properly, cornish hen, glutinous rice, healthy and hearty. Delicious and enough to take home. My family particularly enjoyed the tteokbokki here compared to other places. Great texture. Our server, wish I got her name, was holding the fort down by herself on the Sunday. I've become a little bit of an obsessed regular of Kimchee Korean, but when the food is this delicious, how could I not be?? I've had my eye on their whole fried chicken since seeing a picture of it on Yelp and a video of the audible crunch. The chicken was heavenly. Light yet full of flavor. The place itself is pretty clean, spacious and organized. The servers were super friendly and accommodating. Got their army stew and boneless korean fried chicken. The army stew was a little too hot for me but it was good. The broth, noodles, sausage, rice cakes, and kimchi complemented well with each other. Their boneless chicken was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the outside. The sauce that it came with looked like a condensed milk but it was really good. Recently opened spot by a Korean family. The mom cooks everything fresh daily and came out to say hi to us. Food was definitely made with love including the bonchan. We enjoy all of it and it wasn't too expensive. The place has a nice atmosphere. I thought the menu was a little short, not a lot of options. I ordered the spicy chicken ramen with added tofu and garlic.. It wasn't too spicy. The broth was alright. I had to add some soy sauce and kimchi to give it an extra boost. The kimchi is VERY good. I'm picky with my kimchi. I hate when you can tell the kimchi hasn't been fermenting long and the flavor isn't fully saturated into the cabbage. This place... chef kiss to kimchi! The beef was so tender (you have to try it to understand) and the broth was delicious. Had a nice balance of veggies with a perfectly cooked egg. Chicken cutlet: Super light and airy. Crisp all around, not oily at all. Came with a refreshing side of cabbage salad. I will definitely order this again. Army stew: The army stew was a nice mix of spam, cheese, sausage, ttebokki, and ramen. Broth was a bit different than the tofu soup (in a good way). A very hearty meal for one! We also learned the restaurant is family-owned by a mom, dad, and daughter, which makes it even more special. Heard good things about this place and finally got to try it out. Friendly staff and cute little place with comfy leather chairs and plenty of tables. We ordered the dumplings and the army stew and they were delicious. The dumplings were flavorful and soft, pretty much melts in your mouth. The army stew is made in house and is probably one of the best I've ever had. It comes with cheese, noodles, spam, sausage, rice cake, and rice on the side. Unfortunately they were all sold out of gimbap already by 2pm so we weren't able to try those. They serve Korean comfort food (my favorite!) and while some of the includes bbq'd items, this is not a grill your own bbq spot. I can tell whether a Korean place is good or not based on their soondubu (spicy tofu soup) and I'm glad to report that there's is killer! Super tasty and flavorful. They have options for seafood, beef or veggie and it comes with purple rice and banchan. The banchans were fresh and flavorful! I can't wait to come back and try the seafood pancake. I ordered a diet Dr. Pepper but was brought a regular one, no problem as I drink both. I wanted Chicken Ramen but the waitress informed me they had no chicken, so I ordered the mild spicy beef ramen. My husband and son each ordered the chicken stew, even though one dish was sufficient for two. But they each made sizeable dents in their own dishes before packing the leftovers. Recently tried this restaurant and loved it. The army soup is sooo delicious even if it's a little spicy for those that can't handle too much heat like me, but it was too good to stop eating it. The sides that came with the meal are also very delicious and honestly I could just get full on the sides. The beef japche was the first dish we tried which is what sold us on going back. It says it serves 2 which it definitely did. We even had enough left over for a third person. My plan is to try everything on the menu but that might take a while. We drove 5 hours round trip from LA to try this after seeing amazing reviews! My whole family couldn't stop talking about how amazing the food was the whole car ride back to LA! Once we got back home, they were "fighting" over the leftovers LOL. The service was amazing! All the staff from the cook to the most attentive server we had, to the gentleman that filled our waters... it was such a welcoming and awesome experience! We were able to share the one person wih two people. The service was fast and welcoming. This is a family-run business, and you can really feel the care they put into everything. There's one main server, who is the owner's daughter, and she does a killer job being attentive, efficient, and such a sweetheart. The mother is behind the scenes cooking and does an amazing job. You can tell they are an incredibly hardworking family. The ambiance is cute and cozy, with small Korean-themed decorations throughout. The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and paired with the quick service, it makes for a great dining experience. It's a very small space with only ten tables and a few counter seats, and the time of our visit they were very understaffed, but that's forgivable for a brand-new restaurant . The food more than made up for the lack of staff, and the friendliness of those working was very warm. We tried the boneless Korean fried chicken as a starter. It is probably the best chicken I've had in recent memory. Great flavor and texture, even without the dipping sauce, which was also good. For entrees we had Spicy pork and Korean pancake with bulgogi. Both were very, very good. The pork was served with purple rice and the pancake came with a yummy sauce with scallions. This place is a gem! I have been here 4 times since their grand opening. It is a cozy, ma and pa shop with amazing authentic Korean food. The best evidence? This place is crawling with Asian customers. Last time I was here the owner of a high profile Thai restaurant was sitting next to me and loving the food. The chef is a wonderful grandma who comes and talk to the customers whenever she has a moment. The waitress is the daughter who is super friendly and bubbly. And the food is incredible. Today I'm having the kalbi plate, it is aggressively seasoned, on a bed of white onion which soaks up the delicious sauce. All the small side dishes were delicious, tastes like home made. My friends and I decided to try a new Korean place on Stockdale and I am so glad we did. This place was very busy when we stopped by for a late lunch. The inside has many tables in a smaller place but they make it work and they have it decorated with cute Korean memorabilia. We were able to get seated right away and even though the waitress was completely slammed with work she got us our drinks and food right away with a friendly smile. We only got water and the barley tea for drinks but it's perfect with the wonderful food. We ordered the Spicy soft tofu soup, shrimp fried rice, yangnyeum mandu, veggie Korean pancake. The food came with Banchan and the soup came with this beautiful purple brown rice. All of the dishes were mouth watering and delicious.
