Sigh... I understand that there are no Korean BBQs in Palos Verdes, so I was very excited hearing about this new spot. Food was honestly okay, not the best quality. H mart has better meat for a fraction of the price. However what got me was the service level was definitely not up to par compared to other Korean restaurants in Torrance, Gardena, Ktown, Orange county. We went for my father's birthday. We ate a full course meal and I had to step out with my wife to the car. My dad, being asian, paid for the bill without us knowing. As we got back to the table, we asked who seemed to be the owner of the establishment if we could order 2 Coke zeros. He basically rejected our request and said the check is already paid. Like its just two coke zeros.. coulda just gave it to us but just showed us that this establishment is more of a cash grab than a long term restaurant. I rather travel an extra 20 minutes down the hill than come back here. read more

Despite the reviews the meat and service were pretty decent. The price of the meat is expensive but that's how much good quality meat is these days at a nice kbbq restaurant. However, I do wish the banchan (side dishes) were better. The steamed egg, salad, and jiggae (strew) were all extra cost and not part of the combos. I also can do without the unnecessary comments from the owner, but all in all I'm glad there's a Korea BBQ on the hill. read more

This was passable Korean bbq for a price at the higher end. The brisket was tough. Pork was ok. Bulgogi was pretty good. Banchan was good but it was like pulling teeth to get it refilled. Also our set menu strangely came with literally two small mushroom slices and a single asparagus spear. The mushroom pieces were inedible which I told the owner who ignored me. I used to love Kim's BBQ Korean Cuisine, but my recent visit was a huge disappointment. From the moment we were seated, we were ignored. This one server in particular had a rude attitude and she insisted we ordered cheese corn and another item we definitely didn't order. Although the food was good, the service was terrible. Our food was left unattended and almost burned, while other customers received quality service. We didn't even get the rice included in our combo because they "ran out," yet we saw other tables that arrived later being served rice. I don't think you should receive that kind of service when you pay all that money... there wasn't even an alternative option to make up for the missing rice. This experience has ruined what used to be a favorite spot for us. Sadly, we won't be coming back. read more

We were eating out tonight for my birthday, and a couple of weeks ago I decided on Korean BBQ. Turns out that the usual place was closed, but a little bird called Yelp alerted me to this place yesterday, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived hungry and decided to splurge for the Luxe Combo, given that it was a special occasion, and it was a good amount of food for the hubby, myself and our 5-year-old. The food was great, the price was a bit high, but reasonable for the quality. We will attribute any imperfections in service to the fact that this still the soft opening. We came here for a birthday' lunch for my hubby and the menu is simple you pick a combo, we picked the middle grade one out of the 3. They gave us free hot tea. You can see in the menu from other photos, the price for food is not too expensive but not cheap either. But the amount of the combo for the 2 of us was perfect. And what we loved was that the owner came out with our meats and started cooking for us!!! He was very serious about the experience and diligently cooked for a while, and said ok it's medium rare now and left so he's not staring at you while we're eating lol. He came back to cook the next batch and kept repeating till we were done! Wow thank you Mr. Kim!!! It looked like his wife was cooking for another table and training 2 young male servers. They were so adorable trying to cook the food. Everything was fresh and good quality, but not as high quality as Tamaen or those Japanese places with Wagyu... but I prefer not to pay $100 per person so this is fine! The other nice thing is that the sides were very small plates but they brought more as they saw empty plates! Yessss I love the sides so that was a plus. The decor is very chic modern but rustic and cool, they played sexy jazz music so it's not like Gen where I feel like I'm at a rave party... or Koryo Jung where I get a headache from the K-Pop, it's just annoying, sorry I know I'm old ok!? I can't relax!!! This was a nice restaurant with attentive servers, quiet clean adult atmosphere and because I didn't have to cook much at all it was even more relaxing!!! The place gets busy so make reservations! Lunch time was very quiet. I wish they would serve wine, but they do have shoju and light beers. They need to add some craft beers. I'm so happy Kim's BBQ opened in the PV area, next door to the Bristol Farms. It has been open a little over 2 months and I have been twice in the last 2 weeks. That's how much I like this place. The quality of their meats, their service, the side dishes, everything, from start to finish was great. I am not really sure about all of the negative reviews and it seems as most of them are service based. Keep in mind this is a newly opened family owned restaurant so I am not sure why all of the negativity. Give it a try yourself and you'll see the quality of the meats is great. If you're looking for quantity and AYCE meats, this is not the place for you. I tried both the combo luxe and combo prime and they're both 5 stars in my view. Do yourself a favor and try if for yourself. I am told on the weekends they are very busy so they can not cook for you like they do during off hours, so just be understanding. Mostly enjoyed this Korean BBQ place in RHE. The place itself is very nice and clean. I appreciated that they honored my reservation and sat us immediately at a table marked reserved for us -- bypassing the line at the door. My only issue is that one person started the cooking and walked away and then another came by to give it a stir, also walked away and another person came by, etc. etc. This resulted in somewhat over cooked food. No one ever made it clear that the food was done, and we eventually took over the stirring ourselves because it was becoming apparent that it needed to be done. I would much prefer if they cooked one thing from start to finish, let us know it was done and then come back for round two, or three or whatever. This is only my third time experiencing Korean BBQ and that was my prior experience at the other two places. Ventilation was okay, but I certainly smelled smoke on my clothing on the way home. As others have mentioned, the amount of banchan is a bit skimpy, but when we asked for more kimchee, they brought it out right away. I am willing to go back with more understanding of their process and knowing that I have to keep an eye on the food. read more
