One of the best Korean BBQ places I've eaten at in my entire life. Very friendly staff and I loved the genuine korean atmosphere. I could tell the food was going to be delicious from the beginning. We ordered the fried scallion korean pancake, and it was cooked perfectly. Very crunchy and flavorful. We then ordered the galbisal and sam gyup sal (see pictures for reference). The galbisal was debatably the best galbi and I've ever eaten. Meat was so tender and the marinade was perfect. Sweet and savory. The samgyup sal had very nice portions and high quality meat too. The kimchi bokkeumbap was full of flavor as well. The portions here were phenomenal, and we luckily had left overs to enjoy at home. 10/10 recommend this restaurant for korean BBQ. Please yourself a favor and eat here. The food is fresh, authentic and flavorful. The restaurant is clean, modern and spacious. The service is impeccable. I was very impressed by the large selection banchan (side dishes) and the quality of the ingredients in our main entrees. The restaurant is completely remodeled with private rooms coming soon. They currently have a few grill tables which makes dining a blast. The owner was very friendly and even made me a dish that wasn't on the menu (but don't tell anyone I told you that). So I have returned a couple more times and have had solidly better experiences! Missed lunch so I ordered one of their stews, a favorite, doenjang jjigae. It was pretty salty (when are they not though) but my only issue was the meat (pork) was super tough and had very rubbery parts. However I saw they offer beef or pork so next time maybe I'd specify beef or none. I liked they don't put seafood in their doenjang. It's not my thing. Lol They brought out 6 banchan this time, and my waiter was nice to ask me if there were any banchan I didn't see, but would like. I still think the banchan portions are small but they are willing to refill. I like the space just bc it's so large, clean, new, and well lit. Another time I went for lunch and ordered the bulgogi lunchbox. It was very good. And they served me 5 banchan. I like that their seasoned soybeans look fresh too. Although I got cucumber kimchi, I also asked for the cabbage kimchi, and they were sweet to bring it out. So I give this place a solid 4 stars... almost 4.5 stars now. read more

I've been looking for Korean BBQ since living in LA where every table had a hot pot that you could cook a variety of meat and Asian vegetables. Kim's doesn't have the hot pots but does have a variety of Kimchi which we love, massive bowls of soup and entrees. Mama Kim is very gracious and takes care of her many customers. Love the Korean dance groups on television although I don't understand what they are saying. UPDATE We went back two days ago and had #1 BBQ boneless ribs (galbi) cooked on one of two table grills currently installed. Kim cooked all the meat although my husband is a chef. She is right though -if you cook till black grill marks appear - like the table next to us did you will not get the great flavor! My husband also ordered a tofu kimchi hot pot that was to die for. I can't eat anything that spicy but he was thoroughly enjoying every bite. I also ordered a seafood pancake but wish they had just plain scallion ones. That is what I crave. read more

Ordered the sundubu jjigae this time with Tteok-bokki extra spicy of course! Plus the japchae. Online when I placed the order it said the jjigae came with veggies but it didn't have any veggies when I got it. Customer service was excellent as usual. May just be an issue with online ordered or error on the menu. It was my first time ordering the Jjigae from here so not sure how it's normally made. Either way it was delicious and i ordered it extra spicy. It wasnt too spicy. Next time ill ask for extra chili on side. Still one of my favorite korean spots. I'm hoping one day they'll add even more traditional Korean dishes. Either way everything I've tried I loved. This time the Tteok-bokki was way too sugary and I could even see all the sugar granules added to it so not as good this time for the sauce but I love rice cakes which they make bigger now. Great service and food. I don't know if she's the manager or owns the restaurant but she's a great women! I went today with my mom and my brother along with my mom's friends and overall just amazing experience. Not to mention I ate more food there then any other Korean restaurant! Great place for Korean fare. Expensive but it was late and we were hungry. I've never had Korean food and my friends love it so I figured it was worth a try. It's clean and the condiments are delicious and fun to sample. I had shrimp and my daughter had squid. The service was not great and that is the reason for the three stars. I'm not Korean and I don't speak or read it and the menu isn't very descriptive so we needed help and received none. We took a shot and lucked out. I will try Korean food again, just not at this place. To spend $55 for two meals is a leap of faith when you're in the dark, and even though the food was good, I felt the attention we got could have been more thorough. read more

My husband and i LOVEEEE this place ! Mrs . Kim can cooookkkkk!!!! We have been here almost every other week . We have tried the Sundubu jjigae which is a Spicy soft tofu soup. The best soup served in a claypot rice bowl , comes out super steamyyyy ! Its spicy and sour and the tofu just melts in your mouth . We did try the seafood in it but i would pass on adding the seafood since its a really small amount for an upcharge .We also tried the Yukjaejang, a spicy soup beef with vegetables which is also tasty . More of a tomato base spicy soup with glass noodles ! Our fav is still the spicy tofu soup ! Now the Galbisal, the marinated boneless beef is so freaking delicious. We love the char taste served on an iron cast dish ! Lots of flavor and comes out steamy hot and sizzling! We also had the Go deung eo gui which is whole mackeral , and we cant get enough ! Having dropped off the teen in Mandarin we needed a spot for dinner and took a look on Yelp and landed here. First off when you walk in you are met with a wonderful aroma wafting from the table top grills and the kitchen. We had never been here before so we asked for suggestions from our server. He told us some of the most popular dishes and how the food is prepared. I decided on the Dol Sot Bibimbap and hubby chose the Bulgogi They bring you a nice selection of banchan prior to your main dishes arriving. We really enjoyed the BokChoy and the Spicy Green Beans, but all were good. My dish was so good and stayed steaming hot as it is served in a stone bowl. The red sauce that is served separately is good with a touch of heat. Hubby enjoyed his as well but felt his was a tad small for an entree. Owner (assuming?!) came by and sat with us for a few minutes. She was giving us tips on what to try next time we visit. She was very friendly and obviously proud of their food. Giving this place one star is already giving it way too much credit. To the people that say this is the best kbbq they've had, clearly never had actual Korean BBQ. I've been to kbbq several times and I've never paid as much as I did at this place not to mention it was way too little food for the amount I had to pay, it was $70 for two people. I expected to walk out stuffed, little did I know we had to go somewhere else to actually feel satisfied. First Korean BBQ place I've ever been to that requires you to order more to grill your own food. A fee for unfinished food is standard practice but not whatever this place is. Also the pork belly they gave us wasn't marinated, FROZEN, and could summed up to thick cut bacon for $30. The beef however was good. I would've been willing to give them more credit if they didn't give us only two pieces. Again $30. Idk what world these people live in but I've been to KBBQ places on the west coast that charge half of what I paid here and serve a massive menu of fresh, quality meat. The owner and staff should be ashamed to be apart of this highway robbery. TLDR: Run while you can! read more

I had a pleasant lunch experience here recently. The service from the waitress was very friendly. I decided to splurge and try their galbi (short ribs), which is a bit more than I'd normally spend on lunch, but it is a dish that I do enjoy. While waiting, I received a full spread of banchan (vegetables) which were delightful. A generous portion of galbi arrived soon after. It was served boneless, which was a little different for me. Normally when I've had it, the meat is attached to a small piece of the rib, and you eat around that piece of bone. It was quite tender, and nice not to require my fingers, but I have to admit, it was a bit mild on flavor compared to other Korean restaurants. The beef at the bottom of the stack, still in contact with the plate, had the most flavor. It wasn't enough to send back or anything... just a little underwhelming. Rounding up to four stars for the service and the banchan. Will definitely try again, especially after they have grill tables installed. read more

My sister and I were really looking forward to eating here since it was my birthday, and I wanted to try it out. I am a lover of Korean food and have had many authentic Korean food made by my Korean friends. When the food came out I was very excited to try it. However, with one bite I was very disappointed. The rice was old, not the typical rice I've had in other Korean restaurants. The soup was bland, with no flavors. The Kalbi was hard, not tender. And the squid did not have much flavor or kick to it. Visited this place on a Sunday afternoon based on some social media hype. Got there and all it was, was hype for real. Don't let the high rating on yelp fool you. We arrived and waited 10 mins to get seated while a little Yorkshire terrier dog came out of the kitchen to calmly greet us (no joke) - health code much?! Finally got seated by the ONE waiter who also acted as host and bus boy. He sat us down at a standard table but we were there for BBQ (cook ourselves at the table). Waited another 10 mins and told the flustered waiter that we're moving to a different table to cook ourselves. Waited another 15-20 mins and realized this place is a joke and a scam. The menu didn't even show where you can order your own meat to cook. After 35-40 mins of sitting and waiting without so much as a drink order, we left. Spidey senses were sure tingling when the young Korean group next to us waited 20 mins just to get their bill (they were already finished when we sat down). I love bulgogi! Two of my soccer friends from decades back introduced me to this delicacy in their family's home in Annandale, VA (if you ever visit, you better learn some Korean!). Mrs. Cho made the best bulgogi & kimchi. They had a small grill they would put on the table & our meal was cooked in front of us. Years later at a Korean restaurant, I was thrilled to find out that this was the norm - it's a fun dining experience. I took my son & two of his friends to Kims and I was very pleased with the decor and the helpfulness of the staff. They don't offer grilling at your table, which was a little disappointing. The boys all loved their meals! We started with japchae (noodles with beef) and crispy fried dumplings, which were great! For dinner, one of the boys got kimchi fried rice, one got bulgogi, and my son got harmool ramyun (spicy noodle seafood soup with crab) and I had dol sot bibimbap (a rice dish with beef & veggies in a hot stone pot). The stone pot kept cooking the rice during the meal - so if you like crunchy rice, you'll really like this dish. The boys devoured their meals and were very pleased. The owner told us "No." She said everything was more expensive but she would "allow" us to have 3 or she would have to charge us another $14! I told her we have 4 people and they should should give us more. Normally any other Korean restaurant would give you more side dishes even for just 2 people. So not only did they raise their prices but they also give you only 1 set of side dishes. Its just plain greed and bad business. The food is not up to par as it is and they are more expensive than other Korean restaurants. They should close!! We will never go to back there! So my mom was visiting me from CT and we decided to stop here for dinner. Based on the name, we assumed there would be grills in the tables like other Korean BBQ restaurants we've been to. First of all, we shouldn't assume. No grills. :( but the restaurant itself is nice and clean, plenty of room to move around. The menu is pretty limited, but I hope they do add more to the menu if things take off for them. I got the daiji bulgogi, while my mom got the dol sot bibimbap. We also got an order of the mandu as an app. Visually, based on the amount of food we received, I thought the entrees were a bit pricy. But the quality of the unlimited sides and the main entrees themselves really are worth the price. I enjoyed my bulgogi, the pork was perfectly cooked and it was pretty spicy. Our server was really great and checked on us as much as he can, but the poor man seemed a bit frazzled as he was training two people and serving a few tables at the same time. The owner is really sweet, she checked on each table and pretty often. She asked if we enjoyed our food and if there is anything they can improve on, and she seems like she is willing to listen to any criticism to improve her restaurant. She even gave us a dish of fried squid on the house, which was a nice gesture. The squid was pretty good and I hope they eventually put that on the menu. This place seems to have a lot of potential. I'll probably come back in a few months when my mom comes to visit me again. Hopefully by then they will be able to offer more. read more

A great spot in Jacksonville! I'm visiting from out of town and wanted to show my boyfriend and friends a little taste of my Korean culture! Having lived in Korea for years, i was nervous that it wouldn't be authentic or just not great Korean food for their first experience. I did research and Kim's BBQ had the best reviews and table top bbq so we decided to eat here on a wednesday for dinner! We ordered two orders of kalbi, two orders of pork belly, and one of bulgogi and one of spicy pork bulgogi. We had 6 people in our party and this was more than enough. Everything was very nicely marinated and tasted fresh. It was fun teaching everyone how to make a good glass of somaek (soju+beer) and explaining what all the side dishes were. A great place for a fun weekend dinner with family or friends! I'd only say that the waiter didn't come around too often and we were often looking around for him to come around. read more

I was craving Korean so decided to try the Korean place that everyone raves about. It was a weekday and store hours said they opened at 11 AM but when we got there around 10:30, they were already opened. We were greeted and served quickly since we were the only one there. We got an order of the galbi lunch bento and an order of the sundubu jigae. Server came with all the banchan. Everything was tasty. The galbi lunch was a great price for what you get. It comes with japchae, rice, galbi & 2 potstickers. If I was eating this alone, I most definitely wouldn't have finished but I shared it with my husband. Everything was delicious. The sundubu was good but it already comes with egg cracked in it. We added seafood to it so it came with little pieces of seafood here and there and it also comes with a bowl of rice. I would definitely choose the galbi lunch over the sundubu. Total was a little over $30 which is a great price for everything we got. Definitely not the best Korean place I've been to but I'm new to Jacksonville so it may be the best option in the area. Would come back for the lunch bento boxes. read more

So I've been several more times over the past year. I think always for lunch. Never seen them when they're really busy or overwhelmed. Not sure how well they handle that. I now know I can bring the kids, and they'll find something they're happy with. Lunch bento boxes range from $11 to $15, sodas are $3. And a craft beer is $7 (!). Adds up to an $80 lunch for 3 kids and me. $96 with the tip. Certainly not the cheapest place for a family outing. But well worth it, since the food and service is always top notch. I do miss the DC area where there were dozens of great Korean BBQ joints to choose from. read more

Kim's Korean BBQ is thus far the best Korean food in Jacksonville. I ate here recently (they had only been open for a little over a week) with my family for dinner. The place is pretty clean and spacious, and there's a closed off section for private parties. To my bemusement, we were escorted to our table by a child less than half my height. Nonetheless, our server was very friendly and immediately took our drink orders. From then on, however, service was kind of slow. The banchan (side dishes) was very good. Kimchi was fresh and tasted great. The staff was very accommodating, bringing plate after plate out to us. The menu was relatively limited, though they still had a decent selection. We ordered five dishes: japchae (stir fried vegetables and noodles), haemool pajeon (seafood and scallion pancakes), yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), galbisal (marinated beef), and ojingeo bokkeum (spicy stir fried squid). Everything, like the banchan, was hot and fresh -- definitely more authentic than some other places. They served us complimentary watermelon slices at the end of our meal. Although there were long periods of time between each dish served (especially since they had forgotten about our ojingeo bokkeum), we were kept happy and busy feeding on the banchan. I was a little disappointed that there was no stovetop grills where they cook the meat in front of you... but perhaps that'll be part of the next Korean restaurant to open up in Jax. It was our first time there, but we will be back. We got there just as they were opening on a Saturday. It started to fill up pretty quickly - check their website for hours, as Covid has them opening a bit later than yelp says. I love the little dishes that come out to tide you over until the food arrives. If you're into pickled veggies, then you will love them all. They offer the spice level if you like it spicy. And to the owner please don't bother answering or responding back to this comment. I don't like how you're replying back and giving the "we are right and you don't understand Korean cuisine" "we don't over marinate our food like the other restaurants do" attitude. I feel like this is condescending. You totally ignore what the customers are saying and pretty much saying you're the only one who is right. We ordered Kbbq, Budae jigae, and seafood pancake. The owner is way too talkative. Not the good kind. She's overbearing and forces her way of eating to be the only way that is correct. I have older parents and she was treating them like they were kids. The marinated galbi has no flavor and please don't say this is the natural way. I grew up eating Korean food and this is definitely not the way. She didn't change the grill and just used our used napkin to clean the charred bits. The budae jigae isn't memorable. The seafood pancake was soggy. The food was really lackluster and doesn't deserve this many high stars. We spent way too much here thinking it was gonna be good. Hands down the best Korean restaurant in town! I looove me some Korean food. The service here has yet to disappoint me. Mrs. Kim interacts with her customers and I think that's cool that she takes pride in good service and food. They have a great variety of banchan here. I love that they have this clear pickled kelp noodle banchan. I wish I could get a jar to go every time. I love yukgaejang which is a spicy beef stew so you'll catch me ordering that often but there's so many great dishes on the menu. Try the dak doritang if you want something spicy. The tteokbokki is a great appetizer, but I wish I could get a hard boil egg with it, although it's not always standard for the dish. The bulgogi is great go to as well. I always get it spicy. I could recommend more dishes but this review would be too long.
