I drive by Kin Khao probably twice a week, and have been wanting to try this place since it opened. The plaza and the area gets a lot of traffic since there's a raising canes and a chick-fil-a across the street from each other, but it was nonetheless still easy to find parking. We ended up coming here on a Friday for an early dinner with grandparents and baby. The dining area isn't massive, but it wasn't busy either. The staff was super friendly and helped us get situated with a high chair, and got us everything we need (we're a needy group lol). I like that the kitchen is semi open concept - you can kind of see and hear what's going on, but they don't have glass panes for you to see through. Our food came quickly. My favorite was probably the pad see ew for how well cooked it is - it has such good wok hei, which is important for cantonese people to determine whether if a dish was well-prepared. My usual benchmark for thai food, the pad thai, actually fell a little short of my expectations, but that's probably because I prefer my pad thai a bit more sour. All the dishes were great, and I'm glad the staff warned us of the spice level and allowed us to adjust and customize dishes as necessary to suit our needs. The portions were a bit smaller than your standard thai restaurant, but so is the price tag. I would much prefer a smaller dish and pay less, so I'm not always taking leftover home. Considering how close this restaurant is to my parents home, I'm glad I found a gem in Monrovia/Arcadia area. We will for sure be revisiting soon! read more

Yesterday, I went here for dinner around 6 pm, and it was a great restaurant with good ambience! We were a party of four, and our orders include Pad Thai, crispy noodles, tom yum soup, and drunken noodles, they were all delicious, and the tom yum soup has strong flavor! Parking was a breeze, we were seated right away, the place was very clean and tidy, it was attended by what seemed like a healthy crop of dedicated regulars and the attentive service was provided with a smile. Ambiance felt elevated and the kitchen was highly visible (always a good sign). Now for the food: Thai herbal sausage: i love a tangy thai sausage and this one delivered. the wedge of lime doubled the zing and the surrounding sides were appreciated (i found myself picking at the peanuts and nibbling the fresh ginger throughout the meal) Som Tum: i'm pretty picky about my papaya salad and this was one of the few spots which was just my taste. medium is always the best spice level choice for me, not too much sugar, and the dried shrimps are always appreciated ;) Gai Manow: the family recipe and this truly is a must try. this minced and fried chicken patty has a very unique texture, and the combination of sweet and sour flavors of the sauce and bitterness of lime really surprised me. i also appreciate that they added the perfect number of tomato and lime slices to match the individually cut pieces of chicken. this attention to detail shows how much thought went into this dish. the fried chinese broccoli was actually fun to scoop up and top and added an element of playfulness to this dish. absolute banger. Beef massaman curry: i would say good but not great. the beef was really tender, good quality and tasted good but when i order massaman curry i'm usually looking for a thick curry with spice explosion, and this version didn't do it for me. Mango sticky rice: a solid one. the rice portion was perfect - the mangos tasted a tad underripe. altogether still very very good and a perfect ending to a great meal. This spot is a total gem. They deserve lots of praise for the Gai Manow in particular - one of the most original dishes I've had from a thai spot. read more

Have been feeling a craving for Thai food since going to Thailand recently. Saw this place while driving by. Noticed that they opened recently. Then again, I have been out of the country for several months. Walking in, I noticed how clean and organized the restaurant is. As I sat down, I was provided a glass of water. After just being finished with training session at Crunch, I needed the water. Wow, the water tastes clean and refreshing. All very good signs of a good restaurant. Through the years, I've learned that if a restaurant serves good water, their food usually is good. I ordered the green curry because I wanted curry. They said this was not as spicy as the salmon curry (I really wanted this), so I went with it because I am not a spicy person. First time having green curry. What can I say? It's EXCELLENT. Just enough spicy for the flavor. I guess green curry is on my palette from now on. I wanted to try their tea, but I try to avoid dairy. So she recommended their hibiscus tea (not a fan, been tainted from other shops). She assured me it's good. And definitely it was good. Not just good, but really good. I really enjoyed it because I don't remember hibiscus tea being this refreshing. The service is really wonderful. She came by to ask how I like the food. I've been here twice before writing this review. Its a recent addition to Arcadia's small collection of thai spots with this one having mostly rice dishes. Service is slow maybe because they recently opened or are just understaffed. I tried the khao ga pow gai and pork shank over rice. The khao ga pow gai is essentially a ground chicken with herbs and rice dishes. The herbs give a nice aroma to the ground chicken that surprisingly is cooked tender and not dry. The addition of a fried egg really gives a full chicken meal. The pork shank over rice was my favorite. The pork shank was super tender and flavorful. The sauce gave it a nice saltier and meaty taste. I ended up mixing the rice with the sauce for more flavor too. The side veggies were a nice crunchy texture in contrast to the softness of the meat. The fried tofu was a good middle too. Overall, great food and reasonable cost. I'm happy a spot like this opened up in Arcadia. I will be back to try more on the menu. read more

What a great Thai restaurant. I tried it out because it was recommended by some yelp connections and it was not a disappointment. The interior is pretty no frills. They have very large screens with the monitors that give both a detailed explanation and great photos of the dishes. That's important if you're not an outsider the box Thai eater. They won't have pad Thai on the menu. The food was amazing and I'll definitely be back again and trying additional dishes to expand my horizons. read more

Stopped by Kin Khao Thai Eatery and appreciated the clean space and cute decor. The setup is counter-service--order, pay, and grab a seat. The menu definitely veers off the traditional Thai path. I can honestly say everything I tried was new to me, which was refreshing in itself, even if the flavors didn't totally hit the mark. We tried: * Mee Gati - Reminded me of Singapore curry noodles but heavier on the coconut. It's a dry noodle dish, and I found myself adding a lot of their jalapeño vinegar to punch things up a bit. * Gai Manow - A fried minced chicken meatloaf-type dish. It wasn't bad, but it leaned on the bland side for me. * Crispy Chicken with Turmeric Rice - This was the standout. The chicken had a nice crunch, the rice (though a touch dry) paired well, and the pickled cucumbers added a refreshing contrast. The sauce it came with tied it together nicely. Overall, I didn't dislike anything, but nothing wowed me either. The flavors were a bit subtle for my taste--maybe intentionally so, as this spot seems to lean away from bold, classic Thai profiles. If you're feeling adventurous and want to try something beyond pad Thai or pad see ew, it's worth a visit. I heard about a new Thai restaurant opening in our neighborhood and was excited to try it last night. The restaurant is located in a small unassuming strip mall right next to a Robeks juice. The restaurant is set up with 3 large screens with menu options at the entrance, you order at the counter, and they bring the food to our table. We ordered a variety of dishes: - Guay Thiao Ruer (boat noodles): this was the first dish to come out. My kids totally crushed it. The flavorful soup with the thin rice noodles, braised beef, beef ball, and finely chopped baby Chinese broccoli were delicious. - Tom Yum Goong Nan Khon (Tom yum soup w/ shrimp): was also a hit! Super flavorful with fresh shrimp, tomatoes, and brown beech mushrooms. The broth came out piping hot. - Massaman Nuer (Massaman curry w/ beef): good chucks of beef in a thick curry sauce. - Khai Ga-Pow Kai-Sub-Kai-Dow (spicy ground chicken basil): we always get this dish because my husband loves it. This is a newly opened restaurant in this Monrovia shopping center. It's a good option for some quick Thai food. Service is really good, and the staff are really helpful with suggestions. I had the #13, the Guay Thiao Nuer Sub, which is basically pan fried rice ice noodle with minced beef in a light curried tomato sauce. It was a little tart for my taste, but it wasn't bad. The server also recommended their vegetable egg rolls, but nothing special about them. They were very similar to the ones you would get at Panda Express. This is not your typical Thai restaurant you often see around here (like, ever). They offer dishes that are hard to find and remind me of home authentic, comforting, and full of flavor. My boyfriend and I decided to try this new Thai spot after seeing it on TikTok (which I really need to stop trusting!). We started with the chicken wings appetizer -- easily the driest, smallest wings ever. They came buried in a bowl of fried basil that no one was going to eat and a side of sweet chili sauce. Definitely disappointing. For our entrees, my boyfriend got the Pad Thai, which he said was okay but had an overpowering lime and dried shrimp flavor. I ordered the Mama Tom Yum soup, which turned out to be just an elevated bowl of instant MAMA noodles. The broth was way too tart -- even after I tried adding water, it was still not salvageable. The biggest letdown was the mango sticky rice. The whole dish was sitting in a pool of overly sweet syrup, and the mangoes weren't even fresh -- browning in the middle and mushy, like they were about to go bad. First time trying this Thai restaurant. I am so glad I did!! Everything was delicious! We ordered: Tom Yum mama noodle soup~I asked for mild. It's kind of pricey but it does taste pretty good. It has four shrimps and meatballs. The only thing I would change is to have less lime in the soup because it was a bit too sour with a little bit bitterness from the lime. Ground pork rice~I asked for mild as well. This dish was very delicious and I like how it's not extremely oily. I would want to eat more of this next time for sure! I finally got a chance to try this new Thai restaurant in Monrovia. What's unique about this place is that it offers more unique dishes that are not typically seen at the Thai restaurants. Literally a taste of home cooking from a mom and pop shop. I tried several of their small plates: 1) Thai herbal sausage- enjoy it with the cabbage and ginger after a squeeze of lime! 2) beef jerky - dip in spicy sauce 3) shrimp toast- garnish with some pickled cabbage and cucumber For my main course I tried the crispy egg noodle with gravy and chicken. And then you taste it, there's heat, yes, but its inviting, not punishing. The kind that invites you back for another spoonful, and then another. I was truly surprised by the flavor. I had to come back for more. I came the next day to try something else. I was encouraged to try a noodle dish that I cannot recall the name of hahah. I am such an idiot. They crushed it even harder with that dish. I'm scanning through the website and I can't find the name of the dish. It was so freaking good. The steam curled up carrying a sweet savory aroma. The colors are vibrant, the red bell peppers and wilted basil complete a glistening garden of sensations. The first bite didn't ease me in, it grabbed my attention. The smoky wok is woven into the noodles. The sweetness and salt, were balanced in careful equilibrium. Soy, basil, pepper, a hint of sugar, all entwined in harmony. Nothing overpowering, everything working together. Then comes the chili, it's not loud at first but it builds slowly like a conversation that got serious without you realizing when it happened. I came in last week and ordered the Sai Groog essan I think that's the name of it. It was the number 2 on the menu. It had sausage, cabbage, ginger etc.... It was pretty good. This is not your usual Thai food place. I probably will not be going back... The place was very clean. The lady who rang up my order was pleasant and polite! I like Thai food but I'm use to my usual stuff which is pri pad king, beef satay, drunken monkey noddle etc and this place does not have those items. This has to be my new favorite Thai restaurant in town. All the dishes are so flavorful and unique. The appetizers that stood out were the Chicken Manow (I've never had this before, and it was fantastic!!) and the Grilled Shrimp Salad (perfect blend of spicy and sour). In terms of entrees, I really enjoyed the fried chicken over tumeric rice and the tom yum noodle soup. The hubby enjoyed his salmon pineapple curry. I like their modernized Thai concept and the staff are all friendly. That aside, let's get to the food: I went with the khao klook gapi (shrimp paste fried rice). I had made this dish a few times before when I was in my Thai cooking phase, and it was super delicious. While their version is tasty (I asked for extra shrimp paste since pics on Yelp looked more white rice colored), I feel it doesn't hit as hard as my homemade version. Everything was aesthetically plated and taste wise maybe not as pungent as I think Thai food can be. For my family: my sister had the rice with beef short ribs and they were cooked very tender and had a black pepper sauce. Pretty tasty in itself but I would have to eat 2 of these to be satisfied. My dad went with a vegetarian noodle dish which I didn't try. My brother ordered a fried chicken rice dish which had a good crunchy texture with tender meat. Wow! It's like I went to Thailand. I was around the area and needed to eat and it was close to 3pm which they close between 3pm-5pm but I wanted to try something sour and hot. I went in and asked if they're still serving since it was 20 min to 3pm. They still allow it. Went in and th first impression was it's really clean and feels comfortable. It's an open kitchen kind of look and looks really cool and love that feeling. I ordered the mama something, mama tum yum? Impressed with the presentation. Oh boy, it was goooooood! My tummy was completely satisfied. The sourness was just right. Shrimps are pretty big and fresh and not the frozen kind. The people are nice and welcoming. All the staff were super personable and this was the best service I've had in a while. Other than constantly checking in with us, the most memorable part was when the lady refilled our hot teas. She made sure to shield the cup with one hand while pouring, so that the hot water doesn't splash on us.
