We ordered the Gai Manow--which was minced chicken served over crispy Chinese broccoli with a perfectly balanced sweet and sour sauce--and it was fantastic and prob my fave dish. We also tried the Mama Tom Yum noodle soup and the Khao Ga Pow Gai, both bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious. Stumbled upon this restaurant by chance - a beautiful new Thai family-owned business. They serve some really interesting dishes that set it apart from your usual Thai restaurant. You won't get Pad Thai and Pad See Ew here so I encourage you to try something new and be pleasantly surprised. I got their Gai Manow which I was told was a family recipe of fried minced chicken with crispy Chinese broccoli with a delicious creamy sweet and sour lime dressing. Was very excited to try out a local Monrovia Thai resto with good reviews. It was both good and bad. I'll lead with what could be improved. We arrived to put in a takeout order. Six dishes including a papaya salad. We were taking it back home because a friend specifically craved a papaya salad. We leave to do an errand and when we return, they told us that they were out of papaya salad. They took the order, so there were no red flags so we assumed no problem. In the meantime, we noticed someone was dining on papaya salad. How can a Thai restaurant run out of papaya salad? That's like McDonald's running out of French fries. I dunno. That really kind of put us off. They didn't really do anything to remedy the situation. The food was fine. Not earth shattering. I'd be willing to try them again and eat at the restaurant. read more

The food here is good. I originally thought it was related to the awesome Kin Khao in San Francisco, but I don't think they're connected. Had three dishes, Gai Manow, the Boat Noodles, and the #23 Gaeng Kuah Sub-Pa-Rod Pla (Grilled Fish curry). The Grilled fish curry was my favorite, they'll give you a small bowl of rice to eat it with. It had just the right amount of heat and the fish was perfectly cooked. Someone said the Gai Manow is a must have, it was just ok for me. Looks nice though. For the boat noodles, I was expecting a much saltier and thicker broth, with some heat. I don't think they use blood or fish sauce in making this version of boat noodles. Or maybe they're dealing with the dilemma of holding back the flavors to capture a wider audience (being that this is in Monrovia/Arcadia). (regarding the Boat Noodles) I personally think they don't need to hold back (the heat, nor flavors), the audience here can handle it. And they'll stand out from the other Thai restaurants. I definitely will come back to try the other dishes. It's great to see dishes and not just the same dishes you always see at all the other Thai restaurants (Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Pad See Ew etc.) Kin Khao is a great addition to the dining options around the area. read more

Wanted to try this new Thai place that opened since I love Thai food. From the outside this place kind of looks like a sit down restaurant style, but it's more of a to go place but still has seating. You order at the front and pay at the front and they bring the food to you after you sit down. They don't have typical popular Thai dishes such as pad thai and papaya salad which is what I normally order, so I just decided to try a new dish I never tried before. I ordered number 13, and honestly it tasted like something I could have made at home. Minced beef with sauce over noodles. It almost tasted like spaghetti with meat sauce. The flavor wasn't bad but wasn't great either. Zero spice. Just ok and edible. My partner ordered the boat noodles which weren't bad but also not good either. The food was literally just ok. Not very flavorful at all. I feel like they don't cook to appeal Asian taste buds with zero spice and not much seasoning. Kin Khao brings a fresh, tasty array of thai cuisine to the 626! I've eaten at many thai restaurants, so I was pleasantly surprised by the number of options that were new to me on the menu. I was also happy to see many pescatarian and vegetarian options as a pescatarian. The restaurant is owned & run by a friendly thai family who provided excellent service. Our server, Pinki, and her mom were very attentive and happy to answer all our questions. They created a warm ambiance that felt like eating a homecooked meal at a friend's house. Everything we tried was delicious and full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the shrimp toast with pickled cabbage and cucumbers, and the thai tea with lime was a refreshing balance to the spicy dishes. I've been driving by this place and finally decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did! The food was delicious we had the Mama Tom Yum, Chicken Manow, Mango Sticky rice, and Beef Massaman. Mama Tom Yum was sour, tangy, fresh and creamy (since they add egg yolk to it)! The chicken manow and beef massaman would have to be the highlight dishes tonight. I don't think I've had Thai dishes like those two before and it made me want to come back and try the other dishes on the menu! Chicken manow was refreshing and savory (similar to crab cake at other Thai restaurants) but served with sliced limes, tomatoes, and seaweed. It's best to have all the components of the chicken manow dish in one bite! The beef massaman had a rich, deep and nutty taste. The braised beef was easy to separate and potatoes in the dish were cooked well. I didn't get to take a pic of this, since we already started eating it. I ask for their favorites and that's what we ordered. Both dishes were full of flavor. I enjoyed the spice level of my dish #19. It complimented the flavors of my stir fried ground pork. #24 is a braised beef in massaman curry. The curry had a rich flavor and matched the tenderness of the braised beef perfect. Elevated ambiance paired with comfort food is how the owner described the experience they built. I agree! She had a great RnB playlist going.
