This review is for the food truck that comes occasionally to Pleasant Hill BART station. I stopped by at noon and the line was short. I asked which gyro was better and was told to get the chicken, so I did. He also asked me if I wanted it spicy and I said I did. The gyro prep didn't take long. Back at work, I noticed that making it "spicy" meant drizzling generous amounts of red sauce over it, which is not what I expected (or wanted). Once I scraped the spicy red sauce off, I found the gyro to be flavorful - the chicken was especially well cooked and tasty. And it was generously filled, which I appreciated, as I was HUNGRY! Red sauce isn't really spicy like other not-to-be mentioned halal type places, so could be bumped up. There were 4 pieces of semi-large chicken pieces (great flavor), lettuce, tomatoes and sauce. They give you extra hot sauce & yogurt sauce on the side. Large wraps, worth the price. I got to try King Gyro while visiting Retro Junkie in Walnut Creek on a Friday night to enjoy classic rock songs being performed by the Fooz Fighters. Retro Junkie regularly hosts live concerts featuring cover bands and has a different food truck on site each night. So there were no other food options at the venue this past Friday, but our experience with this halal food truck turned out being better than expected. We got the lamb gyro and lamb over rice platter, and both were pretty good. I'm usually not too fond of the gamy taste of lamb, but it wasn't so pungent at King Gyro and was flavored really nicely, in fact I could have mistaken it for beef. The white sauce wasn't overdone and balanced really well with the seasoned rice and fresh veggies. So even if I wouldn't consider it the best Greek food in the bay area, overall my meal was quite satisfying. In addition, service was friendly and pretty standard, and the wait time was about 10 minutes with no guests in front of us. read more

I assume the guy who took care of me is the owner. He was very friendly and helpful - we chatted as he prepared my order. No one else came in, no phone calls, he wasn't working on other orders. I hope things get busier - the community needs to support this place! I had the combo, which is lamb, chicken, rice, lettuce, tzatziki, and pickled onions, cucumber, etc. Every single ingredient was excellent. Portions are huge! I have enough leftover for another meal. Comes with a can of soda. I'll definitely go back. I hope he brings the food truck to the Pleasant Hill Off The Grid, as that's easily accessible for me. Good business development too. I've driven by this corner for 25 years. Shopped in the little market next door. But never set foot in the takeout place in any of its iterations. The sandwich menu looks good, as does the pizza. This place really lacked flavor and any reminisce of halal food. Started off bad by getting our order wrong. Then continued when he pulled meat from a pre cooked tray instead of a spit. Lastly, they used sriracha for their hot sauce - what a joke. This review is for their physical location called King pizza and Kebab. I had a craving for halal chicken and rice combo and saw this spot in pleasant hill. I yelped them and saw that they are from the same owner as the food truck. The combo rice plate was very good and generous portions! The owner was really nice and he even gave me a baklava for having to wait while the rice was still being cooked. They took over siren's deli. I also ordered a sandwich which was also amazing. Basically what I fear when ordering a Gyro, guy enters truck and dumps pre cooked meat chopped up and sitting in a bin into a cold pita with some lettuce and sauces the top. Assembly time a minute or two but quality not worth the time or money. Suggest they study how a real gyro is assembled at any one of thousands of trucks or restaurants if they want customers to return. A few stars because the pita was fresh at least (not warmed though) and the lamb not rancid or anything (not warm, certainly not fresh carved as it is supposed to be, and certainly not even reheated on a grill). A lazy mans half hearted effort at fast food to quickly get back outside and socialize with his friend. Service was friendly though and everything seemed clean. No way worth $12 for a gyro and suspect a falafel would have not been cooked fresh either, but spooned out of a bin, cooked a long time ago like this lamb was. Not sure where these other reviews ate. Maybe they have never eaten a properly prepared Gyro, falafel, Shwarma or similar foods from Greece, Turkey and the region. Its not that I expect perfection from a truck, but this was the gyro equivalent of a microwave frozen hamburger when one expects it cooked on a grill. There were no other customers and no wait and I suspect I know why. Up your game guys, food is a competitive world in the bay area. I wanted to order another serving to take home and the guy told me that I could only order once. Meanwhile, I witnessed several women from my company order seconds.
