I don't even know where to begin. This place is a disaster disguised as a taco joint. First off, the line was longer than my last relationship, and it still didn't prepare me for the disappointment that followed. When I finally got to the counter, the staff seemed more interested in their phones than in serving food. I ordered a simple taco, but what I received was an unidentifiable mess that looked like it had been dropped on the floor and then picked up again. The meat tasted like it was from a can, and the tortillas were so soggy they could double as sponges. Don't even get me started on the salsa. It had the consistency of dishwater and the flavor of regret. I thought I was getting a side of guacamole, but it was more like green mush that made me question all my life choices. The ambiance? Imagine a high school cafeteria during lunch hour, with the added joy of sticky tables and questionable smells. I half-expected a rat to join me for my meal. The food is delicious here. Pretty much the gold standard of Mexican American fast food. Authentic and not gross like a food truck. My main complaint here is they take waaaaayyyyyy too long to make your food. Even if there hardly is anyone in the restaurant. Not sure why, as the meat you can see comes in bags and all they do is reheat it. I have came here throughout my years living in Boyle heights and it's always the same. My previous review was poorly written, but King Taco has not changed one bit. It remains consistent and still serves some bomb ass carne Asada sopes. A very simple entree that comes with a fried thick masa as the base and pinched on the outside to help keep the meet in tact. It's then topped with cabbage and queen fresco. Honestly what really does it for me is their red salsa. They are stingy with it and only give you one side for every two sopes. If you want more it's about .79 more. But one really is sufficient. It takes a while to get your food once you order it, but it's definitely worth the wait. Customer service has always been great, and if you're lucky you'll be able to get a table. They also have other great items on the menu that looked good that I haven't tried yet, like their Tampiquena and their burritos. But next time I come back, I will probably still order their sopes. read more

Haven't been to king taco in a good 3 years and some stuff has changed. As I know this is the spot many like for their burritos and tacos I decided to call and order my food ahead of time. (Save myself some time) To my surprise the girl that answered said they don't take phone orders anymore. Plus she added its empty thats why we don't do phone orders. The tacos were a bit cold and the tortillas were hard. The sope was pretty soft but the asada meat was cold. Honestly the only good thing about this visit were my horchata and my asada burrito. It was hot and delicious. The lady taking orders was very nice, the lady handing out the orders was very quiet and did not give me any napkins as usual. I asked another girl that was working next to her and she gave attitude and look at me bothered. Guess she was upset that I interrupted her fitting session with the cook. Ugh! King Taco is an East LA institution. I grew up going there, so it's nostalgic for me. Coming here (especially to this location) is an experience in and of itself~ let me explain: It's right off the 710 freeway/Cesar Chavez Avenue. They have a private parking lot~ I've never had a problem finding a spot here. So first you get in line to order. Come here for the tacos~ at $1.69 a pop, they they are your classic small, double tortilla tacos! Our favorite are the Al Pastor, but there are lots of choices from Carne Asada to Buche. Skip the burritos- at $6+ a pop, they are on the small side & cant compare to the great mom & pop places East LA has to offer. But also try the Sopes & Nachos con Carne! The last night we went it was chilly, which was perfect reason to pick up a cup of Champurrado to enjoy with your meal! The Horchata is a classic- definitely get one on your first visit! After you order, you wait to pick up your food at one of the other windows. Listen close for them to call your number (in Spanish & English). You can ask for onions & cilantro, medium or hot salsas (green and red, try both!). You can eat inside or take it home with you. The area isn't the best & there are always Security Guards around... Its kind of dirty outside & it can get crazy busy and crowded, but that's all a part of what makes King Taco 'KING TACO'! read more

Open late with a decent of parking. Parking lot is tight though. In the middle of parking lot is an outdoor seating area. What looks like a food truck is actually a building serving as an outdoor restaurant. The sign says it is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only. The main restaurant is tight with about 2 dozen seats inside. It can get busy with the line out the door. There is one line with registers taking orders on opposite ends of the counter. You order and get a ticket and pick up your order in the middle section of the counter. It can be hard to hear your number. The ticket also contains the bathroom door code. Staff is friendly. Service is quick. I ordered the TJ style carne asado, lengua, and buche tacos. Plenty of meat and the red sauce has a nice kick to it. Good tacos but not the best I have ever had. For the 4th time disappointed by king taco. I understand pastor has onion but not 1/2 onion and 1/2 meat. The first 2 times It was the Lincoln heights location, the third time was Bell and now Boyle heights. I would of gave it 0 stars but wasn't able to. If you're Latin you don't need to read this! I've been a customer to King Taco for over 15 years and have visited several locations. And up to 2 years ago, I had no complaint. I usually get a burrito and 4 asada tacos for my dates. With the order I always seemed to have to ask for hot sauces. ( Oh before I go on I have to disclose that I'm Asian and my date is white ). Thinking it was natural to have to ask for hot sauces, I recently noticed that King Taco is "Bias". I know the signs says "you've got to pay extra for sauces more that you're allowed ( 1 sauce per 2 tacos). And that's fine. But WHY ARE THE LATIN BUYERS GET MORE FOR FREE? BAM!!! picked up a bunch of tacos de asada, tacos al pastor, sopes, and lots of salsa roja. I appreciate the consistency in flavor across all their locations. they never let me down. The reason I have to give this 5 stars is that I feel like they have real tacos! And for those who don't know any better than Taco Bell- well are you in for a treat! I had the carne asada tacos- with onions, meat and some cilantro; and that is all that you need.... well you can't forget the delicious green salsa! Warning: it has a bit of a kick to it, but worth it giving it a little something. Then the carne asada sope! It is like a thicker taco but with cabbage on top. We had to go in the restaurant part of the place- they have a taco truck that sits right next door but I believe it is not opened on the week days. So come and try it out, the prices are reasonable too. My friend and I had one of each and she had a drink: Total about $11 or so. King Taco red salsa is what keeps me coming back! Spicy and delicious! This spot gets crowded during dinner hours. The ordering counter is really close to the entrance so the line is always out the door. Tip: If ordering tacos to-go, you can ask for the onion and cilantro mix on the side. They will wrap it nicely in aluminum foil. This also applies to the salsas which can be scooped into small cups. Taco'bout no more soggy tortillas! After trying most of their meats, my favorite is the lengua. It's even better than their al pastor. In fact, all their meats are perfectly seasoned and light in sauce. The carne asada and suadero have more of a chew and firmness / texture. Carnitas and chicken are good as well but sometimes are a miss when slightly dry. Spanish is mainly spoken so you may not know when your order number is called. Don't worry - the security guard will help you if you ask nicely. You could even show him your receipt in advance.
