Cool place. Nice atmosphere, but was a bit too noisy for my liking at peak hours since I get distracted easily plus I have sensory issues. Lots of young adults come here, usually to drink and/or have nice food. Located in the University and King area, it's close to many businesses so it's great for an after-work night out or a lunch. The staff are attentive and are willing to accommodate​ any dietary restrictions such as nut allergies. The pizza is great here, as well as the Korean style fried chicken. If you love pizza, this is the place to go! I've tried 3 types and all were delicious, my favourite is the stinging bee which has the salty and sweet combo I crave so often. I can't eat pizza without drizzling some honey or maple syrup now. What I also love is the crispness of the dough throughout the pizza. I get way too many pizzas with soggy centres. I've also had the prawn and salmon risotto, it was a bit salty but after you squeeze the lemon on, it's perfect. They have cocktails that were interesting. I could easily have a few guava margaritas, again the sweet and salty combo is yum! A friend had the mojito and enjoyed that a lot. My only complaint was the lack of diversity on the dessert menu. They were all ice cream, it could use some cakes, Creme brule, Panama cotta....anything! Although, the churros was really good. read more

Anyone ever mentions pizza, I scream KING TAPS. After 10 pm is where the party's at... the party in my belly... because of their half priced pizzas. Their pizzas have literally holds a standard of how pizzas should exist before consumption: a heaping blanket of delicious ingredients hand-picked by God, a crust so crispy the sound is used as a mating signal for unicorns and Ryan Reynolds, and the dough is perfectly chewy in the center, it makes cushiony love with my tongue. The atmosphere is trendy and loud, so leave your boring meatloaf Sunday's uncle at home. We came in on a weekday at 10:15 pm and their DJ was kicking up tunes better than some King west clubs on a Saturday. Also this place inside is like one lumen brighter than O'Noir, so study the menu beforehand if you want to order. The pizzas I recommend are their Forager, Prawn and Pesto, and Stinging Bee- but the obvious good choice was to come here in the first place. We were really glad they could accommodate us last minute for NYE since their sister establishment Cactus Club was full. We only came by for some food and a few drinks before headed out for Nathan's Square. We had the pepperoni pizza and the Korean chicken bites. The chicken bites were ok, standard bar food flavor with sauce being a bite too sweet. The pizza was really greasy and needed a few dabs of a napkin. I had the Manhattan cocktail and enjoyed it twice. Went to king taps for the first time. Not impressed. We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees and got them both at the same time. When we mentioned it to our waitress she thought that was odd but never offer to take away the entrees until we were ready for them. I also think she wanted them entered before the 2pm discount but we didn't even know about it until after we left. She then took our appetizer without asking if we were done. Not impressed. The food was ok. The crust on the pizza was way to puffy. Didn't eat any of the crust. Overall not impressed and probably won't be back. Came here last Sunday just to see the vibe of the place, me and my bf were visiting from New York. We were a little thrown off at first because we didn't see anyone on the bottom floor so we thought there was a private even going on but we saw the stairs to take us to the upper floor. I think there were a few items that make it hard to relax and enjoy your meal here. I ordered the pizza and calamari which are alright. The crust on their pizza is salted perfectly with some extra seasoning, making it very unique. It has a thick crust around the edge but the actual pizza is thin crust, so that's interesting. The calamari is not fried nice because it did end up being a little soggy as well as the vegetables. There seems to be more cool places to hang out in the downtown core with just alright food. The dish was very flavourful but a bit on the spicy side. For main, I got the Baja fish tacos. There were three in an order and they were amazing - so flaky and crispy (although the portion was smaller compared to my first time here). Not a great experience. Began with the drink order. I ordered a Molson Canadian. The server first stated she didn't think they had that beer. I was hoping for a Molson IN CANADA and especially since it was on their menu. I did finally get the beer. NEXT I ordered the shrimp appetizer (which was the highlight of the night) and my wife ordered a main dish salad. I advised the server that I was to order my main dish in a bit thinking she would come back but took a while. She brought out the appetizer and my wife's salad at the same time. At this point I ordered my main dish. It took a while to get the Steak and Prawns. Once I received my meal the "prawns" were nothing but small shrimp and was cold. So I thought maybe it's a cold shrimp on top of the mashed potatoes. Then I had the mashed potatoes which were also cold. Cut a strip of the steak and it was cold. The entire dish was COLD. Once the server came around I advised her I was not happy with the cold meal, and she apologized and said she would tell the chef. Not sure that this is the chefs fault as everything seemed to take long and appeared it just sat there for a while. Overall not a great experience with the service. I tried to get into King Taps for a drink after going to the CNE with my boyfriend. Some bouncer-type dude at the door straight up lied to us saying they were at capacity and it would be over an hour wait. We saw a ton of empty tables but there were still enough people eating and getting drinks that it didn't look like they were rushing trying to close. Plus it was a quarter to ten so I didn't buy that there was magically a bunch of reservations that hadn't shown up yet. The only reason I could think of for why they turned us away was that we were dressed casually, but after we went to Cactus Club (which I think has a more upscale/bougie vibe) this was no problem and they actually treated us like people. Plus Cactus Club was MUCH busier than King Taps but they were still willing to accommodate us. I hate being that person that gives 1 star reviews without even getting to set foot inside the place, but they didn't give me a chance to give them my business and after that experience, I definitely won't bother. read more

Came to King Taps for lunch during Summerlicious on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated on their extremely cool and very busy outdoor patio enjoying the beautiful weather. We ordered off the Summerlicious menu and my three course options were as follows: Appetizer - Bang Bang Shrimp (tempura shrimp with spicy miso and soy caramel), Main - Farmhouse Crispy Chicken Sandwich (crispy breaded chicken breast, swiss cheese, kale and cabbage slaw and honey mustard served in a brioche bun), Dessert - Warm Pretzel Crunch Brownie (dark chocolate brownie, pretzel, chocolate crumb, chocolate fudge sauce and vanilla ice cream). All three were presented nicely and tasted great. The Summerlicious lunch menu was $23 for the three course meal. Very reasonably priced for very good food . The patio was fun and the staff was very friendly and service was excellent considering it was extremely busy. The location is great. Dropped by for a pizza and dessert. The pizza was a Hawaiian with drizzled yogurt. The pizza texture and taste is like thin crust version of Pizza Hut. Quite tasty, probably unhealthy, but a lot less oil and flour than Pizza hut. Strawberry sundae was good, but absolutely nothing surprising about it. Pretty expensive at 8 dollars. They played good music, which is important because it's relatively loud. Appropriately, because it's a bar, but not so loud that it was difficult to talk. On a Sunday afternoon we heard: Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Bill Withers, etc. Much better than I expected. Lots of good TVs. This place is the real deal! I have never dined in, only ordered as a take away 3 seperate times, and every time I try a new pizza (or two) from they're menu. The pizzas are light and incredible tasting, and their signature pizzas are unique but worthy flavour-combos. My favourite so far is a tie between the Forager and the Stinging Bee pizza. Although I've never dined in, the place is packed with bar goers every time I'm there. It seems most people are there for the drinks (at least late at night when I go) but they're food is totally on point and highly recommended by this food junkie. Had a great first impression when I came here on a Tuesday night. Nice, clean and modern decor and quite spacious. Two-storey patio which is great for the summer! Very busy for a weekday so there was actually a wait list for the patio but since the place is very open concept, still got the patio vibe even though we officially weren't sitting out on it. The DJ that night was awesome as well. Loved all the songs and mixes he was spinning. Nachos were awesome for our after-dinner meal (before you judge, it was a Summerlicious meal from somewhere else that didn't have the biggest serving sizes).
