This was just a disappointing experience. I think that was mostly due to being understaffed, but it could have been managed by not seating a full restaurant. My husband and I had a 6:30 reservation on a Monday evening to celebrate our anniversary. The anniversary was indicated on the reservation but was not acknowledged in any way. I was surprised by a full restaurant, but so many places are closed on Mondays that it's hard to find a nice place open on Mondays. It was a bit of a surprise that with a special occasion reservation, we were seated next to a table with two small children. They ended up being very well behaved and were more patient than I was when it took over 45 minutes just to receive our starter. The waiter explained that the crudo we ordered took a long time to prepare. That's odd, since it's raw fish. Let me just say that the menu is baffling. It's a seafood restaurant, yet the first entree the menu lists is a burger. Say what? There are only a few entrees to choose from. There are more starters and raw options than entrees, so that's disappointing. I had the crudo and the steamed clams. They were both fine but unremarkable. The two small bits of bread included with the clams were so drenched in butter as to be inedible. It's extra disappointing since they charge for bread as a side. My husband asked if he could sub a salad for the French fries included with his burger. The waiter said it was no problem, and then we found we were charged $5 for the substitution, which was doubly insulting since he'd asked that they hold the bacon, so they came out way ahead. I did appreciate that the manager offered me a cocktail on the house for the delay. He was busy managing a bunch of disgruntled customers waiting for food. The family next door with the small kids ending up packing their meal to go after waiting more than an hour. I should note that half of the tables' seats have a lovely view of the Willamette. A fine seafood restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly. Many varieties including sturgeon, salmon, lobster, clam chowder, salads and more. Great bar and upscale ambiance. Drinks, especially wine a bit on the expensive side but food prices not so much, considering it was perfectly prepared including sides. Lovely views of the Willamette. Don't sleep on this spot. It's technically a hotel restaurant, but it could certainly stand on its own. We started with the beet and watermelon salad with yuzu dressing and it was so good. Bright, refreshing and flavorful, it was a great way to start our evening. We followed with the clam chowder and lobster roll which were quite tasty themselves. *If you are expecting a "traditional" lobster roll or New England clam chowder, you will be disappointed. I found the lobster roll to be very good, but was informed it was not a "true" lobster roll--so fair warning. The clam chowder was damn delicious, but not the usually creamy, unctuous fare. Cocktails and mocktails were lovely and presented with a flourish. Staff was friendly but unobtrusive and happy to answer questions and make recommendations. The restaurant overlooks the river. I can only speak for the bar and the quick drink I had here. I was walking down the waterway trying to walk off all the food and drink of my trip. I decided to stop here for the bar and a quick break before heading back to the shopping area closer to my hotel. It was right around lunch time on New Year's Day. So it was slow but there were some people at the bar and the tables eating lunch and having some beer. The bartender was friendly. And the drinks were good. But the entire place is just adorable. The decor and the building are very homey and welcoming. We sat by the fire and enjoyed a little break. The hotel lobby was similarly decorated and has nice little touches like fruit infused water. I'll definitely look into the hotel the next time we come to Portland. If the decor and restaurant are any indication, it'll be a great hotel too! read more

We haven't been out to dine at a restaurant during covid and i just couldn't write any reviews regarding take out orders after all it's not the same as eating at restaurants. We specially picked this restaurant because of Portland Christmas boat parade would start right next to the location. We booked by using open table and a special river experience ($50 minimum per person). This review didn't take services into consideration due to 1. only 2 real waiters on duty 2. Boat parade got cancelled so more people had no place to go, so they decided to go into the bar and restaurant. The service was slow but We totally understood and we didn't complaint to the manager like some people to score some free wine or free desserts. At least all food came out hot not cold. Overall of food quality was good with two exceptions. Pork chop has minor mistake of undercooked near bone otherwise it was a flavorful dish and seafood risotto was a major disappointment of the night. I am crazy about risotto and I cook at home as well. When I saw and tasted it, I was immediately disappointed by the saltiness and no seafood flavors it was just tasted of salt. Risotto has to be creamy because of long cooking of rice and broth but this dish was neither creamy nor flavorful. Appetizers I would strongly recommend focaccia with onion jam. It felt like it's "Best of Oregon". Chef used everything from Oregon such as Oliver oil, balsamic vinegar, grey sea salt and house made onion jam which was excellent. Clam chowder was very good as well not too sweet or too much cream. I hate eating chowder feeling like I am drinking milk. Using pork belly was a great idea. Pre-covid review, and I shouldn't have waited this long to describe this place, but I did go back recently in August 2021. But what a great little restaurant attached to the Kimpton Hotel! The food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere is comforting out on the patio! At least, that's how I felt the first time while staying here. It's not very active here nowadays, obviously because of covid. So the hotel had to cut staff as well as the menu. Sad, but understandable, Here's a few reasons why I still enjoy King Tide, even though they removed a lot of good items from their menu: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner: ~ Breakfast Burrito ($12) - I recall ordering this a couple of times before going to work, and they were definitely filling. And with my recent visit, my nephew's burrito still looked big and filling! He mentioned that he really enjoyed it. It was my recommendation to him lol. Glad its still enjoyable. ~ Pickled Deviled Eggs ($9) - These seem to be a favorite, and I can see why. Its gotta be the pickled fresno peppers, or its the slight tasting combo of the mustard yolk center with the pimento and fish roe altogether! It's just a refreshing appetizer. ~ Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($19) - They've got a really really good one folks! I know chicken sandwiches are trendy nowadays, but these guys do it right! The dark meat piece was so crispy on the outside, and succulent on the inside. The bun was an artisan brioche slapped with a tasty lemon aioli. If you don't know what too order, then GET THIS! You'll be satisfied! ~ Lobster Roll ($26) - On a brioche roll that just fell flat. It was good, but not worth the price. I should have went with breakfast burrito instead. Service: ~ Then (pre-covid): When it comes to service, which seems to be as good as the food or even better, the good service itself says a lot! I was trying to recall if anyone had been rude to me, but honestly I did not have a bad waiter or waitress. Even the guy that delivered our room service was quite cordial. - Now (delta covid times): Excellent service from Wesley from beginning til end. It just sucks they had to cut the staff, but again its understandable. The hostess and water server were also helpful. My only gripe, not related to the restaurant was the hotel's front desk. The lady seemed snooty as I indicated to her, we're not staying at the hotel, but we're here to eat at King Tide. Unwelcoming and I almost left because of her stupid attitude. Things I miss: - Kicking it in their bar area, with the patio overlooking the park and river. - The KT Burger with blue cheese in it. I told my burger lovers, this was one of the best burgers I've ever had! Hands down! Bring it back! - The Rock Fish Ceviche, King Salmon dish, and the Chowder Fries... Ugh, so sad! Every once and a while my wife and I like to splurge on a fancy night out. The problem is sometimes when you go big it can lead to big disappointment. King Tide was way over priced for the mediocre food they serve. My wife's fish was greasy and very fishy. I chose the mushroom risotto thinking that an Oregon restaurant would use a few wild mushrooms but all I saw was a lot of creminis or button mushrooms. For what they charge it should have a few porcini or maybe some chanterelles. The best thing we had was the artichoke & cheese crostini for an appetizer but avoid the oyster shooters. For good seafood try South Park Seafood or Seasons & Regions Seafood Grill. We have eaten at both and never been disappointed. read more

4.5 stars for sure. I came here for my first night on vacation, and I would want to come back. I ordered the seafood stew, and it was simply incredible. The clams, mussels, and crab were cooked to absolute perfection, and squeezing the juice out of the lime lifted the stew and made it so much better. To top it off, the toasted baguette that came with the stew was freshly baked. A special shout out to our waitress Cassandra. She made our experience super memorable, and she was awesome. The food was very well prepared and the fish tasted very fresh but the servings are embarrassingly small for what they cost. They offer a good selection of drinks but wine is absurdly expensive - $20/glass for wine that is very inexpensive in grocery stores (much less than $20/bottle). I was happy we finally got to try them out and I was a touch disappointed but only really with one of the dishes. We started with clam chowder and the mussels for appetizers and split them. The mussels were amazing BUT we probably had like four mussels which were unopened so that was sad. Also, the bread that came with it was DRENCHED in butter. That just seemed a bit much since you are using the bread to sop up the broth so the butter flavor was competing with the broth flavor. The chowder neither of us was a big fan of since it seemed entirely overcooked. I literally was scraping the clams (which are served in the shell) out of the shell to get them into the chowder. The chowder itself was ok but seemed over the top spicy to me with what I think was a ton of chopped jalapeno. We left a lot of the chowder uneaten. We ordered dinner eventually. Our waiter thought we just wanted appetizers and did apologize when we flagged him down after our appetizers were finished and sitting in from of us for like 20 minutes so we could order dinner. I was genuinely confused as to why he would not at least check on us though. We got someone else to grab us more bread and another person for more water. He just vanished after taking our appetizer order...it was weird. Dinner was much better than the appetizers. We decided to split everything again and went with the scallops and the lobster roll. The scallops were amazing and came with a sort of bean succotash that was freaking delicious. The lobster rolls were also pretty tasty and the bread was a different choice but seemed to go well. We got their three chocolate mousse with raspberry gel, feuilletine and ivory chocolate creme anglaise to go and just whoa - that was one of those desserts that really bring the wow factor out. Came here a little before happy hour, the place wasn't too crowded so it was pretty easy to get a table for 6. I would suggest the clam chowder for an "experience," they pour the soup in your bowl for you. Cute little presentation. The soup was also super creamy. I highly suggest the tostada if was so good!! As well as the lobster roll, you got a good chunk of meat throughout the sandwich. Everything was fresh! There was not a single dish I didn't like. We ate breakfast and dinner several times at this restaurant last week, during a stay at the hotel it is housed in. With six different visits in total, we loved everything except the vegetable risotto. I think the ingredients vary every evening, depending on what is in stock and the evening I ordered it, there were beets in it. Not a good choice. Let me start by saying I still miss Three Degrees' HH! Three Degrees was the name of this restaurant before the renovations in 2018, and they had one of the best HHs in Portland. They offered a variety of food items -calamari, tacos, burgers, crab cakes - that you could create a meal with while sipping wine, sitting in Adirondack chairs, watching life along this gorgeous stretch of the Williamette. King Tide does have a HH but the small menu of offerings does not make me happy! I usually stick to the HH wine for $5 and the brisket burger for $10. The burger is delicious! Juicy and flavorful. Just wish they had a few more substantial items like this. In addition to many HHs at the bar area (I live within walking distance and friends like meeting here because of the views) we have had dinner in the bar area too. The typical bar food, usually the burgers! Waitstaff has always been friendly and attentive, even when the crowds that flock this outside area in warmer months are there. One night I dinner in the main restaurant with friends, all who wanted to try the new menu shortly after they opened. While this is a high end seafood restaurant, the atmosphere is very IKEA modern. The hard chairs and tables, some with bench seating, give the restaurant a cafe feel. For the money you spend for dinner, the atmosphere should match, it's all part of the experience imho. We decided to sit outside, for the aforementioned reasons, and since it was a lovely evening. It's hard for me to pass on mussels, so I chose this as my starter. The presentation was beautiful, a large bowl of tender mussels with guancale (pork cheek) and flavorful broth, crispy brad for soaking up the juice. Mussels were cooked to perfection! The guancale, which I like on its own and in other dishes, was too strong a pairing for the delicate mussels. I know a lot of restaurants do a version of this, some with chorizo or Italian sausage, but I find it overpowering. We all shared a salad that had shaved truffles. It was perfectly dressed and was a wonderful beginning to our meal. For dinner I had scallops which were served with some type of sausage, mushrooms and veggies. The three scallops were large, sweet, and filling, even though they were light. For me, the sausage wasn't needed. Friends enjoyed the broiled salmon and asparagus, a simple but delicious and satisfying entre. Others had the fresh halibut, saying it was light and perfectly cooked, allowing the flavor of the halibut to shine, served with a cauliflower rice. We loved the menu and the atmosphere. Our meal was great, and was just what we needed. However, the service was disappointing and we left feeling bummed out. We stopped by for brunch with our toddler, waited 5 or so minutes to be seated, waited much longer to be greeted by our server, and honestly felt like we were inconveniencing the staff. No one asked if we needed a high chair, and I had to drag it halfway across the dining room with my daughter in my arms before a server offered to bring it the rest of the way. No one addressed our kid either in any way/shape/form, which just felt odd. Check-ins were infrequent throughout our meal, and we had to get up to ask for things on a couple of occasions. One member of the staff seemed irritated when I asked for a side of hot sauce and an extra fork. Here's what no one knew while we were dining -- this was our first full breakfast in a month. Our lives were just turned upside down when our daughter received a cancer diagnosis. We were celebrating her counts being high enough for us to venture out into the world, outside of the hospital. And we felt like we were a burden and like no one cared if we were there or not. Obviously, I don't expect anyone to guess our life's troubles. But it was disappointing to feel such an extreme lack of hospitality and general compassion when spending $100 on breakfast. read more

I found this place on Yelp and was not disappointing! Just a note, it's inside a hotel with the bar closer to the front door and separate from the restaurant. You have to kind of walk through the front door or the bar to get to the host for the restaurant. We tried the oysters, lobster ravioli, and clam chowder. The clam chowder is different because it is somewhat deconstructed and comes with the food separated on the plate. Then they pour the chowder broth on top of everything. The oysters were fresh as well and the lobster ravioli was great. The server was nice and conscientious and we have no complaints about him. Portland Dining Month 2019 Review: Renovated and reopened last April, King Tide is a nice hotel restaurant, located on the waterfront at the River Place Hotel. A large open hallway connects the restaurant, lounge and the hotel. We were seated in the main dining room for our dinner. The room itself wasn't that large but we had a cozy booth facing out to the water. The staff were friendly, though a bit busy given that a lot of people were in for dining month. To start, I had a cocktail made with rum, yogurt and club soda. It was light and refreshing - it actually inspired me to make something similar at home! Unfortunately our drinks took a long time to come, which is probably why we didn't end up getting a second round. For food, our whole table did the Portland Dining Month. For appetizers, we had the crab toast, a salad, and the hamachi crudo. I thought they were okay, but nothing stood out to me. For the second course, most of the table had the fish of the day (rockfish) but we also got to try the squid ink and oxtail pasta, the eggplant, and the airline chicken. For dessert, I got the panna cotta while everyone else had the chocolate trifle. I thought the rockfish was fantastic and wished I had gotten that instead of the pasta. I liked what they were trying to do with the tortellini, but the execution fell flat. The dough was overcooked and I didn't think the filling of cheese and oxtail meat went that well with the sauce which had just the tiniest bits of lobster and tasted more like a jalapeño ponzu. Dessert was fantastic though. I didn't love the chocolate trifle as much as my family did but the panna cotta was the perfect texture - smooth and creamy, but balance out by the fruit. I would get that again if I were to come back here. Overall, Portland Dining Month was a great deal to try this place. Service was slow, but the place was packed so I would think it's not as busy usually. While it's not the best seafood place in Portland, it's definitely a decent option for a hotel restaurant and some of the more simpler things are done very well here (this is a much better option than McCormick and Schmicks in my experience). I would stick to the market fish and panna cotta or even check out happy hour in the lounge. read more

2019 Portland Dining Month Review This place was awesome for dining month. If you check in, they bring you an appetizer (hamachi tostada) which was actually a really great appetizer! Loved every single thing I got off the dining month menu, the crudo was sooo delicious and surprisingly has a little kick to it even tho the Thai chili was so tiny. Also got to try the crab toast and that was also equally delish- they don't skimp you on the crab or avocado so that is already a plus in my book. The market fish was a really great portion as well and the fish was so flakey and soft and flavorful. The different textures really paired well together, loved the crunch the shoestrings added to the dish. The panna cotta was good although the honeycomb that came with it tastes a little burnt to me. Service was great and I am definitely interested in coming back to try other dishes on the menu. Only downside is the lack of parking around the area. read more

We were guests at the kimpton river place hotel -between dining in the restaurant & 2 room service meals, I think their food is good! Collectively, we had the Lobster Roll, salmon, grilled octopus, ricotta pancakes & chorizo breakfast burrito. Sunday night, we decided to have a drink at the bar & watch a football game (the bartender wasn't happy about our request to turn the tv from women's volleyball to football.. in the EMPTY bar?! Tried to say something about local channels only... it's NFL! the nice hostess took over to successfully find the channel) she proceeded to have an "I'd rather not be here" attitude while she "took my order". I ordered an extra dirty martini & grilled octopus appetizer. My martini was not extra dirty (maybe slightly dirty at best) & 40 minutes later my boyfriend reluctantly asked the status on the octopus, to which "yeah, I don't have that order!" was thrown out. I don't leave these kinds of reviews lightly. The food was great. I had the brandzino along with cauliflower. Both were amazingly prepared and plated beautifully. Very tasty. I also enjoyed a glass of Cabernet. However my experience was less than stellar service and atmosphere wise. My night began at the bar while waiting for a table. While patiently waiting for the bartender to get to me because she was alone seemed a little rattled and annoyed with the night in general. Trust me I understand how short staffed all industries are plagued with employee deficiencies these days. She gets a pass from. Again the wine was great. As my table outside was available. The weather was amazing. But here is where the real trouble began. I was seated alone and for 20 minutes. I was not acknowledged even for water. After the 21 minute I got to get a waiters attention and he was startled from my approaching him. He yelled "don't touch me"! Well I was close but didn't touch. I was closer than I would normally get to a stranger but still no touching. I just disengaged and request to have someone come over. I'm a sizable guy so I can possibly now see how a woman maybe a little unnerved being startled in my presence....This was a guy... Eventually the manager came out to assist and bring my food. Had dinner and was sat outside with a nice view of the River. Ordered the skewer sampler which was good but not great. My boo had the clam chowder which she loved. My mother the lobster roll which she thought was really good as well. I had the branzino with garlic rice. All in all it was a good meal, good service. I wasn't wowed and felt it was a tad pricier, $39 for the skewers was a little high IMO. But over good food, great location and food. Would go again. read more

Service at both the bar (where I started) and in the dining room was sloooow. But speaking of the bar, their Manhattans are delicious! Even with the well bourbon! Not the best first impression. I loved my dinner and drinks at this warm and comfortable place. Everything that we tried was well cooked and tasty. I am NOT a deviled egg fan, but the Hibiscus Pickled eggs were amazing. They had a nice pickled flavor, a firm texture, fresh crab and a little sprinkle of roe. The oceany flavor was amazing. I loved the Crab Cakes that are done more like fritters. They were almost all crab, on an amazing escabeche aioli and jicama slaw. Excellent. The oysters were all fresh and tasty served simply with mignonette and spicy cocktail sauce. New restaurant (opened end of April) inside the Kimpton hotel. Made reservations through Opentable for a group of 6 for brunch on a Sunday. Parked in a garage a block away from the restaurant. We had beautiful weather/sunshine for our brunch. I believe there are 2 dining areas, and we were led to a table by the bar. Lots of windows allowing all the natural light into the room. Our table had views of Tom McCall Waterfront Park and the Hawthorne Bridge. Started with a mimosa for the festivities. As for the menu, the dishes were for the most part lighter for brunch, which I loved. King Tide Omelette-Dungeness crab, asparagus, almond and chervil hollandaise. Not too heavy and didn't need a nap afterwards. Service slowed down a bit, but it seemed they were busier than expected. Best part is strolling along the waterfront afterwards. read more

Located in a Kimpton Hotel, this restaurant is beside a Willamette riverside walking path. There is near and ample street parking, plus with the walking path close proximity to parking lots on South River Drive. With a wrap around porch there are numerous outdoor tables all providing a view. Heat lamps were turned on as the night began to chill, making us comfortable in our shirt sleeves. The mixed drinking was not overly long, resulting in a list of specific drinks done exceedingly well. Our hosts had a bourbon based drink (he, dead reckoning) and a cachaça based drink (her, caipirinha piranha) each raved about as excellent. My wife's G&T was well balanced and elegant in its Collins glass, while I was blown away by my greyhound with fresh grapefruit that seemed to have been strained for smoothness and over a few large, clear ice rocks. Appetizers of fried calamari with scallion, cilantro, onion, fresno pepper, tartar sauce & lime dressings, and an octopus tentacle done in a Spanish style with potatoes, a romesco and olives had us all remarking on how well these were executed. Depths of flavor layers from the ingredients, perfect non-gunky calamari and octopus at the perfect temperature assured there was not a bit left on either plate or basket. We accompanied these with an order of bread, which was two warm, ample rolls with a sweetened butter. As a bread eater I enjoyed this. Entrées were two of the braised Lan Roc pork cheeks with Fava beans, wild mushrooms and yucca fries, a fish and chips order, and my shrimp & scallop risotto. The pork cheeks were multiple large chunks of jowls that seemed to shred like a perfect pot roast. Everyone who had some stated it's not to be missed... and there is some sitting.in our fridge as I write. The fish and chips is a very large cod filet in a perfect crisp, golden batter that shatters with a fork to show hot, steaming flaky, moist fish. Definitely on the return list. The risotto, market priced at $46, was full of saffron, an herb sauce, fennel, pecorino, shrimp portions.and two very large, well-seared, crispy outside and moist interiored scallops. This was the star. We accompanied the entrées with the Gran Moraine chardonnay, Yamhill-Carlton, Willamette Valley, 2017 at $90. This was a perfect wine: full body, little butter, minerality, honeysuckle, a bit of peach. Beautiful wine to top a great night. Not a single complaint. Nothing but praise and satisfaction. For dinner, we started with the fried calamari but the portion is minimal; it's a "Starter" and not listed as a "Share Able" as listed on the menu. I decided on the Tuna Tartare for my main meal and was equally disappointed in the minimal portion, but it was refreshing and delightful. My husband didn't rave about his salmon, but thought it was good enough. We were surprised with the reasonably sized and delicious lemon cake for dessert given our experience for the appetizer and meal. On a business trip so was I was dining alone. Sat at the bar. Used a Yelp check in deal which was a free chef's choice appetizer which turned out to be a bowl of corn chowder which was excellent! Megan the bartender was great, she made a great Old Fashion and you can tell she really loves being a bartender! I ordered the steamed clams appetizer which again was delicious. My only, small, negative and not worth knocking off a star for was that the steamed clams had two unopened clams. Those really should be removed before serving. Staying at this Hotel for one night so dropped by this restaurant for dinner. I would love to give them a 5 star for food but 3 star for the wait. Seafood risotto is great but this Grilled Branzino omg it has gotta be one of the greatest fish I ever had in an American Seafood restaurant. Rich flavored grilled while they keep the sweetness of from the fish itself. Amazing fish. However we did wait for over 30 mins after we placed the order so it's kind of a long wait. Place wasn't that busy tbh. So if you are in a hurry then this place might not be the place to go. read more

A really good fine dining experience. The seafood risotto was phenomenal, so was the ribeye. So surprised at this Hotel restaurant! It would be nice to sit out in the summer time due to the great view of the waterfront. read more
