Yum Mongolian lamb and chick fried rice
    Elisha A.

A bit steep in price for two take out entrees but worth it in my opinion. This is not your typical Chinese food restaurant it's a bit more swanky. We spent $48.50 for the Mongolian lamb and chicken fried rice takeout. Everything was piping hot made to order. The restaurant was really nice and full with customers, you can tell it's a local favorite. I've never seen Mongolian lamb on other Chinese food menus but they should consider it. The food was very delicious and flavorful. However, I do wish the meat entree was a bit more in portion size. Unlike the chicken fried rice which was packed to the brim in the to go box, the Mongolian lamb was a bit skimpy. Still worth the purchase. Will definitely come again.

I moved to Berkeley when we first moved to California, this place has been here a long, long time. While the Elmwood Neighbourhood on College Avenue has changed quite a bit this place lives on. It's an institution. Welcoming on the outside and clean on the inside. Staff is professional quick and efficient. Pretty extensive menu and the food is fresh and good. I ordered the Szechuan chicken while my aunt ordered the sweet-and-sour shrimp. Lunch special came with a small salad and a small soup.

Ordered King Yen Special Tofu and the Vegetable Chow Fun for a shared dinner. Would recommend the special tofu--inside was super silky soft whilst the exterior was coated in flavor. Chow Fun was decent as well and not too salty. Good choice for a quick dinner!

King Yen had ample seating with friendly typical Chinese staff eager to assist. We ordered Mongolian beef, fried rice, lemon chicken and green beans. Everything was very fresh and perfectly seasoned. Lots of flavor and portion sizes were very generous. It's typical Chinese American food, but made very well. Highly recommend!!

I have been coming to this restaurant for years now and it never fails the food is amazing and it comes out super fast! The service is friendly and welcoming they have always treated me very nice and thats what keeps me coming back besides the bomb food. The prices are a bit high compared to other places but this is like a luxurious Chinese restaurant its a bit cheaper during lunch just saying lol super cute restaurant in a good location.

Good spice level and lots of hot chili oil. The dish we always get when we go - D08 Glutinous Rice Ball. Start with tangyuan (gooey mochi balls filled with black sesame), deep fry them, and cover them with chili oil and spices. It covers almost all the tastes and textures (sweet, salty, spicy, fried exterior, gooey/chewy, with a liquidy filling). Only a mad genius could have come up with this dish and it works brilliantly. The rest of our dishes vary a bit each time we go, but it's usually some spicy dishes and at least a veggie dish. Really haven't had complaints on the food. A few watchouts - the parking lot next to the restaurant is not theirs. Street parking only. They also charge a nominal fee for takeout containers ($0.25/box) and a bag ($0.10/

Braised Pig Feet & Chicken Feet $26.95 4. Glutinous Rice Balls (peanut filling) $18.95 5. Spicy & Cumin Pork Chops $23.95 The only downside was that they seemed pretty understaffed. We had to wait a while before anyone came to take our order. But honestly, all the food was really good. My favorite was definitely the eggplant with string beans, so flavorful and really well cooked. I also liked that you can ask for lower sodium dishes if you want. I would want to come back again to try other things on the menu.

Cool to see a restaurant stick around for that long. We got to the restaurant right when it opened for lunch at 11:30 on Sunday. Free street parking on Sunday! I thought everything was solid top to bottom, but here is my ranking in descending order: Braised Eggplant Tofu Clay Pot - I generally like this dish everywhere and they have a good version on this here - seasoned well, tender eggplant, and nice texture on the tofu Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - non-traditional "salt & pepper" - thick coating of tempura-like batter, very peppery (black pepper), and wings set on a bed of sauteed onions. Sesame Bread with Green Onion - tasty, but unlike other "da bing" I've had. This was on the thin side, meaning you have a lot more crispy outside compared fluffy inside. This was also lighter on the green onion. Classic Shrimp & Chive Dumpling - can't go wrong with dumplings - an order comes with 12 dumplings, each filled with big pieces of shrimp. I liked the texture but it is a little different - looser filling instead of a solid meat/veg ball on the inside. Original Braised Pork Noodle Soup - I liked the flavor of the soup and noodles. There was a ton of meat (diced) but they were on the tough side.

Boiled fish soup with Zi su leaves: 4/5 broth is very flavorful. The fish is a bit fishy. It's spicy and numbing and yummy! Steamed egg: 3/5 standard steamed egg, tasted fine but very expensive for what it is. Scallion pancakes: 4/5 very crispy, oily ( I'm not complaining), and also a bit spicy. Stinky tofu: 3/5 the tofu itself doesn't have flavor. You need to dip it in the sauce. The sauce was ok. Wouldn't order again. Fried sweet rice flour sticks with peanut powder and brown sugar: 3/5 this tasted like store bought frozen stuff. I can get this for much cheaper and make it at home. Bing fen: 1/5 this is not the real deal. It tasted like jello with brown sugar. The real Bing Fen is supposed to be chewy, and should come with lots of toppings. Definitely won't get this again.
