I wanted to give the restaurant a four star rating but had to drop a star to a three star rating due to the bathroom and the hit & miss of some of the food at the buffet and other factors. The fried chicken was too dry to eat. The grilled & sauced chicken was not good. No sauce cups to dip food in were not available.

A buffet should have fresh, hot food readily available, and that was not the case here. In addition, the lack of attention to maintaining proper food temperatures made it seem like items had been sitting out for too long. I had higher expectations, especially for a buffet setting. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I will not be coming back again. I hope the restaurant can improve by ensuring food is consistently fresh and served at the proper temperature.

The waitress had horrible service and the entire time I was eating here the lady who I presume is the owner kept eye balling me the whole time I got up to get a plate of food. To make matters worse, after I finished my food I left cash PLUS a tip under the bill tray to pay for my food and started walking out the door when the waitress shouted very loudly across the room "Sir! Sir! You no pay!!". I explained to her that I left the money for the food under the bill tray to which point she ran and checked and when she saw the money was there she apologized. I don't know why they assumed I was going to steal AKA dine and dash but I assume it's because of my ethnicity(Middle Eastern) and they racially profiled me. I will not return to this racist establishment, the food was horrible and the owner and the waitresses were racists. Also half way through my meal the waitress walks up to me and says "sir it's dinner time now so we charge you dinner price" I explained to her how I came into the restaurant 20 minutes before dinner started so I'm not paying dinner price but lunch price instead and after a few back and forths she agreed to charge me the lunch price as she should have. read more

14 person group on Sunday 9/30/12 4PM, had to argue for a while in order to re-arrange tables for seating together. Service was minimal and about an hour later staff sat with chair on the way blocking access to our table, presume this was done to stop party from getting more food all while about half of tables in the restaurant were free. 15% tip was automatically added to check, service included waitress dropping food leftovers from behind a couple of us while we ate. I think that's not right .. but I must be fair to say that the food is always great and the service is great too . We didn't know that so we had ordered one side of rice. As for the food, the portions are large. We got two meals out of them. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. The chicken with snow peas was a mild dish that came with an abundance of white meat chicken and a generous amount of snow peas. The snow peas had a nice crunch to them. The chicken with garlic sauce was mildly spicy and contained white meat chicken, sliced onions, and sliced celery. It reminded me of the same dish I had many years ago: same ingredients, same taste. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish. The hot and sour soup was okay. We've had better, but we've also had worse. If you like button mushrooms, they put a lot of them in this soup. We decided that we would order from them again.

The twice cooked pork was sauteed with sliced leeks and the same red chili sauce. I think that's the fresh, zingy, spice flavor profile I like that can't be found at Americanized Chinese restaurants. Sure, China King has its place and I'll still go back there when I'm close (RIP China King Fair Lakes and Herndon). And admittedly, I go to that awful Panda chain occasionally because I never learn. The unfortunate thing is, I'll more likely go to these places than Cheng's because of the price. The pork dish was $21 and the noodle dish was $19. My total bill came to $60 before tax and tip. If I need to stuff my face with a Chinese umami bomb fast, I'm probably going to the other places for $15-30. I do want to try the rest of the menu at Cheng's, but it's going to be a drawn-out process for the sake of my wallet. I'd be remiss if I didn't include a comment from my dining partner. She compared the quality and taste of the food at Cheng's to Peter Chang's (either Peter Chang's-Herndon, or Mama Chang Fairfax). A high compliment. But she said the value is better at those places' AYCE options than what we got at Cheng's, and I agree. If you've been to none of these places, you have to try them all at least once.

They seemed to be a little undercooked and doughy under the outer shell. Overall, the food was pretty good, but not as good a a couple other carry out places.
