When I first came to eat here I though that it might be ok but it was great. The food, service, pricing, everything was great. I put some pictures up for you guys to see. The restaurant was very pretty. We went in the daytime so the lighting and decorations were very interesting. The waitress was very nice and helping. She knew every thing on the menu and in the food. I'm allergic to peanuts so that's important to me. Overall the place was calm relaxing and a place to go with family and friends. The food was very very good. I loved the noodles and rice. They had a homemade lemonade and that had a different taste to it but still good. The prices for the dishes were reasonable price. They give a lot of food for just $7. I want to go back to this place for lunch again because since many don't know about it there are no waiting times. If you love Thai food, you need to try this place. Oh and did I tell you the shrimp. We have been to the restaurant several times over the past year and each time we asked for a high chair or booster seat, they do not have any. Didn't look at the rating or reviews before coming in, and I'm glad I didn't. Don't let the low rating fool you, this place is a diamond in the rough. Ambiance is a 10/10. Furniture is nice, lighting and music are great, and the staff seats people with enough space in between that my conversation stayed uninterrupted by neighboring diners. The food was incredible, 9/10. My boyfriend and I ordered the filet mignon, street pad Thai, and two Thai iced teas. Everything came out very quickly and the quality was great. The staff could use some work, I did notice one employee face timing or skyping someone while behind the bar. 4-5 employed loitered by the register. However when it came to helping the tables, they were fine. Not great, but not terrible. Anyway, I'll be back and I'll recommend to friends. read more

Good Thai is all over Los Angeles. Great Thai like this isn't so common. To be fair, Kinnara is more of a Thai-Japanese fusion restaurant, but done well. The reviews here are accurate- you'd never expect to find a place with such class and cuisine in a strip mall in Van Nuys. Service is quick and hosts/hostesses are very polite and professional. Seating is somewhat tight but comfortable and very clean. It could feel cramped at a busy moment, and your conversations may carry to the next table (if you're seeking privacy, that is). The ambiance is semi-Eastern modern and very chill. Never sat at the bar, but there is a small 4-6 seat area if you're into that. Excellent for a quick, tasty, exotic business lunch. Great for a kitschy date as it feels like one of those "only we know about this" kind of places. There's also a starbucks in the parking lot, so you can kill two birds with one stone if you're not into Thai iced tea or Thai coffee. Parking lot usually has about 5 or 6 spots open at any given time, but the spaces feel tighter than other lots to me. Parking is cake at dinner time. If anything, i'd like to get more bang for my buck out of the mango sticky rice, and i'm a big fan of plates with more protein content, but overall everything i've gotten off of the menu is fresh, prepared with precision, and tasty as heck. Their "Thai hot" spices (for when you try to order it on the non-American standard of spicyness as you can in some of these places) aren't as fiery as i would have hoped. But these issues are minor. The food is phenomenal, and the menu has some creative fusion twists on Thai dishes if you're getting bored with Pad Thai and Yellow Curry everywhere you dine. Delivery service is awesome, too. So disappointed. Shrimp tails left on in the "spicy" curry that was so mild a 5 year old could eat it. Prik King tasted like orange chicken from Panda Express. My friend and I came to get lunch and wanted to be outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather. We saw online the delicious pictures they have posted and exuded to try it out since it's by our job. I'll be honest here, overall this place is still three stars. It isn't too different from other Thai places in the valley and is a bit below average for LA as a whole. However, if you take just three items on the menu and get rid of just about everything else... this may be the best Thai food place in LA. All three Street Foods, yes, 1, 2, and 3, are just phenomenal. I had to give this place chance after chance because the client is nearby and this place never has a wait for lunch. I have had Street Food #1 the past three times I've been here and I just love it. I crave it. I try to plan trips around this area during the weekend to maybe stop by and have it again. After hearing how great this place is, I must say that I was terribly disappointed. I went there for lunch with my husband this past Friday. After placing our orders we were informed by our waitress that the main chef was out for the day and only the sous chef was in the kitchen. My husband and I had no problem with that. After waiting for about 45 minutes we were finally served our food. What a TERRIBLE disappointment! I ordered the crispy chicken bowl, which was completely mushy!! And flavorless! My husband ordered the drunken noodles which he specified they be spicy. To our disappointment the noodles were drenched in garlic, but not spicy at all. We also had the salmon dish, which was the only dish they got right. In my opinion the only thing this place has going for it is the decor. I give them two stars for their Thai iced tea and the very pretty and friendly waitresses. The food was definitely a disaster. I might give them another chance. The restaurant has a delightful ambiance and great for dates and lunch meetings etc. The customer service is also great! My favorite dish from this restaurant is the pumpkin Curry!!!!! It's absolutely delicious and you will not be disappointed. The portion size is big but you have to order the rice separated. Hands down the best thing on the menu thus far. I tried stepping out of my comfort zone and tried their Tamarind Shrimp with green beans. The shrimp was fried & breaded with a light sweet tangy & hit of garlic sauce. That place is really tasty. I ordered my food over the telephone for pickup. Ordered on a Friday night after 8pm, and the wait time was not long (15-25minutes). I ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice (OMG Great, especially if you like your soy sauce cooked into he rice), Crispy Veggie Rolls were a nice size and pretty good, & last I had the Garlic Shrimp (simply amazing!!!). This is without a doubt one of the best Thai restaurants I've eaten in . It's in an interesting and diverse strip mall, is lovely, service is warm , friendly and attentive. There menu is expansive and creative. And the food was exceptional. The whole crispy sea bass with tamarind was so good that it was Almost embarrassing to leave such a bare plate. The worst service ever. Very rude staff. Very disappointed. I placed my order for dine in and my best friend ordered hers to go. The owner came and told us to leave because my friend decided to eat her salad with me at he table. Mind you...I placed my order for dine in and my friend asked her salad to go because she was in a rush but then later changed her plans and ended up eating her food that she paid for. They told us to leave because that was not allowed. I stated that my order was for dine in and he told me that was fine but since hers was placed to go was to allowed and told her to leave. This is my favorite Thai place in the valley! I usually go for lunch because it can get pricey. The addicted rice is so bomb! I love the snow crab or the surf and turf. I have had lamb, shrimp, beef, chicken and they are all delicious. The sticky mango rice for desert is yummy but I think it's seasonal. The service is always great. It's located in a small shopping center. Parking is usually not a problem. The decor is nice. It's minimalist and kinda sleek. It's good for dinner or lunch. My order is always prepared quickly, and they do not use ridiculous amounts of excess packaging. If you are a vegetarian, definitely go for the California Vegan Curry. Super yummy. The veggie rolls are not greasy, nor do they feel lightweight. The online menu offers the option of adjusting the heat levels. Here, the mild is a little too mild. I'm happier with medium spicy. I stumbled on Kinnara by using the Yelp moblie app and this was one time the reviews and sheer volume of reviews steered me in the right direction. They are doing the traditional Thai dishes, and some with Chinese influence as well as some self generated in-house fusion. I only popped in for lunch and and early one at that on a recent hot summer late morning. Craving something fresh and refreshing it is hard to go wrong with a papaya salad, and as with all Thai places you pick the spice level (medium please) it was lunch time after all. These are about simplicity and Kinnara did it very well. In my mind if a Thai restaurant cannot execute this dish well I am tuned out forever. It's a must in my mind. The Kinnara version featured the perfect amount of crunchy, sweet, savory, and spicy. It was a well balanced and executed salad. Likewise the rest of the strip mall seems to swallow up the undersized parking lot and forget about street parking on Sepulveda or Sherman Way.
