I loved the cheese curds, mac and cheese and the hushpuppies were also standouts. I opted for the brisket bowl, which I enjoyed...the pickles were also delicious. All my friends opted for the pulled chicken sandwich, and they all said it was good. Quick service and great outdoor patio for a nice day!

I'm not a fan of their BBQ sauce. It's quite thin and vinegar heavy. They should have more options available. The burger patty was great but the mushrooms were the most smoked food I've ever had in my life. I think it was too overpowering and not enjoyable. BBQ Sampler: Porketta was good. It was the best dish followed by the ribs, brisket and chicken last. The brisket and chicken were dried out. None of the food was as hot as it should be. It was all lukewarm. Ambiance is great- very cute patio. Service was the slowest I've experienced in ages. We truly waited forever for our food. :/ We thought appetizers - cheese curds and fries would hold us over but they literally came out at the same time as our entrees. I honestly don't think we should have paid for it at that point but I was just so tired from everything being drawn out I was ready to pay and go. I was appreciative of them splitting the check though!

Ever since 2020, the climate surrounding the George Floyd Square has changed dramatically, and this establishment has become an even stronger integral part of the community as the square itself had represented how the community thrives with its people. A lot of respect for the establishment from that perspective. In terms of food, I would say the soul food, which contained mostly sides, were the main highlight for me. The mac & cheese was salty enough. The fries were solid in a "you can't really go wrong with it" type of way. The candied yams had enough sweetness. The collard greens could taste better but standards must be lower when they're not homemade. I also enjoyed the catfish fillets as they were fried to preserve enough hotness and softness. A lot of what they served, they made on the spot, which was what may be causing longer wait for some. Meat-wise, a lot of items could use further improvement because they were too dry, such as the smoked wings and the beef brisket. The wings were dry to the point that they condensed and got extremely salty. The brisket relied a lot on the sauce and the existing fat on the meat for juiciness while the meat itself didn't have a lot of flavor or juice. As for the ribs, they had some seasoning, and tasted just fine, and weren't as dry. But I have had ribs in Texan barbeque places before and knew what "seasoned" ribs were like and therefore concluded that the ribs here were not spectacular. With all that said, however, I still will return here as often as I can because I love supporting this business. The person serving me was very hospitable and patient. I still got some pretty solid barbeque even if it's not Texas. Besides, outside just the barbeque food, the soul food was solid, like I had mentioned above.

I gotta stop believing yelp reviews. People want quantity over quality on this app and this place…read moreis a great example of that. There's nothing redeeming about this place. Yelp reviewers have no taste. They just want a slab of meat and they're all happy. I should've tried their sauces before I bought anything. The barbecue sauces were all ketchup based. They added in too much apple cider vinegar and the sauces were too viscous and runny. A good barbecue sauce has molasses, brown sugar, and tomato sauce not ketchup and white sugar which is what these were made from. I'd have been better off bringing in my own bottle of barbecue sauce from the grocery store. We ordered a half rack 6 ribs and two sides of coleslaw and potato salad. The coleslaw was runny and too liquidy. It had zero buttermilk in it. It was also made with apple cider vinegar which is a HUGE NO, NO. The potato salad was meh. No mustard. Just white potato salad. THEY HAD NO CORNBREAD! How much does a box of jiffy cornbread cost?!? Seriously, this business should NOT be in the rib business. The half rack of ribs: DRY, DRY, DRY. They were baked way too long. The ribs were flavor-less. I would not go back again. It's a huge shame for a rib joint to be this bad. The ribs were such a huge disappointment. Not even a smoked flavor was ever detected. I hope they don't go down the liquid smoke route either because that's just driving off a cliff at that point. I'm DONE listening to yelp reviews. Yall have no clue what you're talking about.

You get west coast mid century modern that feels cozy and hip. The band played from 3-5 which I admit I originally thought was weird. But quickly realized why. This place was created for three reasons: good food, vibes, and family fun. You look around the room and EVERYONE is having a great time. Someone's Grandpa and grandma are having a blast on the Dance floor, kids are laughing, and everyone eating and truly having a wonderful time. The food was SO SO SO good. My husband got the pastrami ribs and I wish I had taken a photo because HOT DAYUM they were fire. And the coolest part about this place is they don't accept tip. Instead there is a surcharge so all employees can have a livable wage and that's so appreciated and you can tell by the service. Everyone we encountered had a genuine smile on their face. For the owners- my husband and I weren't sure if we wanted children and have been going back and forth about it for so long... but being in a safe family environment where fun and good vibes and inclusivity is possible- it hit us like a ton of bricks. Thanks Animales. We will be sure to bring our family here for the years to come

Seeing the size of the portions, we decided to split the Piri Piri Chopped Pork sandwich with Mac n cheese and beans as our sides. It was more than enough food. The sandwich was delicious. Tender pulled pork with a bit of spice on a fresh sesame seed bun. Loved the beans. A little bit of pork fat gave them a great flavor. Husband is the Mac n cheese fan and he loved that as well. My bite was super cheesy. Lots of local beers to choose from. I found a nice hoppy one to try. Love the names but I always forget them. Service was great. You order with a QR code. Food came out quickly. We did have a server visit our table to answer questions and bring us anything needed after our initial order. He was great with giving us some recommendations. The restaurant charges a flat 20% service fee (so no tipping). Parking was a bit of an adventure as there seemed to be a lot of apartment parking on the streets and the lot was pretty small but we found a spot a block-ish away. Great stop!

I've been here before, when they first opened. It was only a brewery and a pizza food truck parked out front. So glad they added bbq. They also have liquor as well. The bartender told me that the go to was their Czech Pilsner and so that's what I had. It is light and smooth, very easy drinking. I'm impressed that they have a wide selection of stouts and IPAs and wheat beers to cater to anyone's taste. The food menu is limited. The food ordering process is really fast casual. You order at the bar and then they deliver your food to the table in cardboard basket dinner where is plastic and you bring your condiments to the table you choose. I wanted to try their wedge salad as well as their slider flight. The wedge was unique because rather than using iceberg, they use Romain, which actually was a nice change of pace for a wedge. It was good. The onions and tomatoes were diced, the dressing was thinner than most wedge dressings, but it was flavorful. The two pieces of bacon on top were whole and quite frankly might've been better if they would've been chunked the smaller pieces as well, but that's not a major issue. The slider flight comes to three sliders. One is a smash burger , one pulled pork, and one is chili chicken. The rolls are fresh and akin to a Hawaiian roll. The Smashburger was a good basic burger, the pulled pork was decent. And the chicken chili, was a shredded chicken that was spicy, but not too spicy. They were easy to eat and enjoyable. All in all the food was good, but not extraordinary. They were satisfying. You're not going to see a Michelin star given to StormKing anytime soon, but that's not the point. If you were looking for a quick easy to eat meal and a really solid selection of micro brews that you won't find anywhere else, the Storm King is worth a try.

When the waitress arrives, she announces that they are out of "burnt ends". (This is made from the moist, marbled part of the brisket called the "point-cut", which in Texas is called "moist brisket" or "fatty brisket".) She said that they still had brisket sold by the pound, so I asked if they still had the point cut (because if they were out of burnt ends, then they might not have any point cut left -- I don't like and won't buy the lean, often dry "flat-cut" of the brisket). She said something about helping me with that when we order, and left us to look at the menus. When we ordered I again questioned about this, and she said they could give me brisket with fat on it. Me: No, this is not the same thing (see above). We discussed further, and she assured me that she could get me what I wanted, so I ordered a half pound of it, plus some ribs. When the meal comes, it's not the marbled, moist brisket -- it the lean, flat-cut, with a layer of fat on top. I asked a third time whether this was supposed to be the cut I described; do they have the point-cut? She said she would ask the chef. Comes back and says the chef says "yes", they do. At this point I'm beginning to doubt myself, in spite of what I see. So I drop the subject and let her get on her way. I try it. It's not bad, but it's not marbled and therefore a bit dry for my tastes. Should anyone get an overcooked slab of this, I can see how they would complain about it being too dry! The ribs were ok, but overcooked in my opinion, so the meat was not thick and moist. The sides were meh. -- a potato salad that was sweet, not enough mayo and mustard, and no eggs. So it was not "...how grandma made it..." as they advertise. Not my grandma. -- and a cole slaw that was equally unmemorable. My two lunch companions enjoyed their sandwiches, so it was not a total bust. The ambiance outside on the deck on a gorgeous day was perfect (covered but open deck, by the way). The service was very good, outside of the complete misunderstanding of the Texas BBQ that they claim to be serving. Not her fault; from the management and on-down, they probably have no idea. So all-in-all, I wouldn't go out of my way again to visit here; your mileage may vary.
