I wanted to like it, I really did, but they missed the mark for sure. Ordered the salmon plate and while the salmon was cooked exactly how I wanted it, the successes stopped there. Everything was cold, the salmon, the carrots, the rice all of it. The rice had this hard shell like it either hadn't been cooked properly or had been sitting out so long it had turned hard and crunchy, and no it's not supposed to be served that way. No check in by the staff to see how things were going, even have to refill your own water despite the fact they give themselves an automatic gratuity when you pay. No, I'm not talking about the mandate I'm talking about a tip. No question would've been a one star except for the fact the salmon was cooked to my specifications. I'm vegan, but my friends and family aren't, so I'm always on the lookout for places that serve both. Kitava is it! Came with a friend and loved it; I had the power bowl and it was so delicious. The sauce should be bottled and sold, it was so good. Everything just seemed so fresh, healthy, clean, and the energy was positive. My kid loved the chicken bites too! We have been to the Kitava in Oakland many times, this has been some of our favorite Kitava experiences. Very clean, tasty, and beautiful space. No seed oils, gluten, etc. It's not going to be dirty cheap because it's quality which we are okay with. The staff is friendly and gets things done. It's a perfect place to grab some food and hangout. A lot to choose from. The portion looks small-ish in the bowl, but we always feel full. If you love a good salad or bowl this is the place to come. Loved this place! Such good vibes and really fresh, healthy food. My friend is vegan and suggested we give it a try, and we both left feeling like we hadn't had food this wholesome in a long time. Everything tasted so fresh--it was the kind of meal that just made you feel good afterward. We even got to meet the owner, who looks like he's been eating healthy his whole life! Kitava is a great spot for healthy and fresh food. There are plenty of balance salad and protein bowl options, with little soy. I enjoyed the Power Bowl with Plant Protein Patties (black bean based) added. The avocado and cilantro dressing paired perfectly with it and there were generous amounts of sweet potato, salad and avocado. My husband enjoyed the sesame chicken bowl and we were both pleasantly surprised by how filling everything was. We ordered hibiscus cooler, chicken nuggets, fries, watermelon salad and the carrot ginger soup. Chicken and fries were really good and so crispy! Ketchup was a bit odd tasting. The watermelon salad was great and so refreshing. The hibiscus cooler was very watered down and had no flavor. Looked a bit different than the picture on the kiosk. The carrot ginger soup didn't look like the kiosk photo at all and was a completely different color. It had a lot of texture and was really overpowering. I'd like to come back and try a bowl or salad! There are no servers so I can't make many comments on that, but they got the food out quick. I was a fan of Kitava back when we lived in Berkeley, and have been meaning to try them now that they're located in Walnut Creek. I ordered to-go a BYO bowl, with jasmine rice, beef, broccoli, and brussels sprouts. My main feedback would be how over-flavored the beef and sprouts were. The sprouts were quite salty, although not too bad when mixed with the delicious broccoli and rice, but the beef was almost overpowering. I'd gone for two servings but ended up giving it to the honey since it just felt too rich to me. For my next bowl I'll probably go with chicken or just keep in my the flavoring and not get as large a portion, however all in all, I enjoyed my meal. A big welcome to Walnut Creek Kitava! This isn't my first time getting Kitava, but I usually get takeout so it was great to finally go in person today. The place is really nice inside and out. The outdoor patio is cozy and welcoming with its string lights and flowers, and the interior has a great, bright vibe with beautiful woven light fixtures and an open, airy feel. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, and you can choose to order at the front or on a kiosk. I really appreciated how fast the food came out in just 10 minutes. They also have a really convenient, organized station with water, utensils, and to-go boxes and bags if needed. What we ordered: Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Chipotle Aioli - Crispy, flaky, and soft in the middle without being dry at all. The chipotle aioli was just okay, and the Brussels sprouts actually tasted better with the jalapeno aioli. Kitava Fries - Crispy and just plain good. I've tried them before with the ketchup; the ketchup was really sour to me, but it still tasted good paired with the fries. Build-Your-Own (BYO) Bowl - I usually always get the BYO bowl, switch up my toppings and veggies, and every single time it's delicious. Today I skipped the base and usually get their plant based protein patties, but since they were out, I went with chimichurri mushrooms, kale slaw, za'atar cauliflower, corn and bean salad, and guacamole with jalapeno lime dressing. I like both their jalapeno lime dressing and herb ranch. They both taste great with the bowl. My bowl today was good, well seasoned, and tasted like a fresher, healthier version of Chipotle. I decided to get a side of fries and mix them right into my bowl instead of a grain base, and it took it to another level, turning it into the best kind of loaded fries. Watermelon Cooler - Refreshing and not too sweet. They have a good amount of vegan options on their menu, though some items are vegetarian or contain animal products, so just make sure to double check when ordering. As a vegan, I really appreciate having such delicious options available. The staff are very nice as well. A huge plus is they use fruit oil instead of seed oils in a lot of their products, so this is the perfect spot if you're actively avoiding seed oils. Had to pay for side sauce and then the standard ketchup was not included. This was an issue at the airport location as well. - The self bussing station is in an awkward location, especially if you are sitting outside. When paying for the meal you're immediately confronted with a tip table starting at 18% for doing all the work!!!!! Hidden in the receipt is an employee health surcharge of 5% as well!!! We want it to be here for years! It is a casual dining experience (order at the counter, bus your dishes), fair prices, very good for families or a quick meal. We went on a Thursday night at around 6 p.m - Service was excellent. The team, particularly Chris, had several recommendations. Food came quickly.
