Kitchen Story has a very similar menu to Berkeley Social Club, so I'm assuming they might be owned by the same owner. Like most restaurants, Kitchen Story requires your entire party to be seated. I recommend making a reservation on a weekday, or on a weekend where they don't take reservations, to come early. I've ordered the country Benedict both times and really liked the dish. The chicken was very crispy with tender meat, and the gochujang hollandaise sauce gave a sweet and spicy kick. Made a reservation for 12:30. Apparently that just gets your name on the list. We still had to wait until 1:15 to get seated, which killed the point of a reservation. People who complained were seated before us, despite being further down on the list. It was hard to get the attention of the host in the first place. We finally get seated upstairs, despite one of our party having a cane. They tried to seat three people at a table for two and I had to say this wouldn't work. They then asked the table next to us to vacate which I felt bad about. (They had paid but still. It was awkward to be stuck standing there and watch it). It took ages after that for our server to appear. Our food came out incredibly disjointed, everyone got their dishes at a separate time. I finally received mine when the first person was nearly done with theirs (and they were polite and tried to wait for the rest of our food, but their food was getting cold). For a 12:30 reservation, we didn't even get the first dish until 2. The food was good but the whole experience was so off putting, it didn't make up for it. read more

Both chicken and waffle tasted fine but didn't stand out *Morning tacos - galbi was tender and flavorful but I think I would much prefer this taco if the eggs were over easy or maybe perhaps a kind of huevos rancheros with galbi YUM *jjapaguri - the ramen noodles were way too soft and mushy which took away from the flavor and texture of dish. Million dollar bacon was good Overall, this is a nice brunch spot that serves non-traditional items with Asian / Korean influence. We started off with bloody Mary's and mimosas, breakfast of champions! We ordered the Korean chicken and waffles and the classic salmon Benedict. Both were delicious, made fresh and hot. I've come here a few times, but I've never posted. It's always great for before the rush of lunch hour. My husband and I came around 10 AM. It's a great location in North Oakland. Disappointed. Was really looking forward to this brunch spot - went here for my birthday, which was the first for all 4 of us. The waitlist on the app showed we were 2nd in line after 5 min of waiting, but it still took another 25 minutes before we were seated. While waiting, we counted over 20 empty tables available inside and outside, so I checked with the front desk, and she said she had to seat reservations before us, meanwhile there were about 4-5 groups of guests waiting behind us with more coming in. Couldn't understand how the restaurant was OK with a crowd waiting to be seated while there were so many empty tables. The food was mediocre at best and one in our party had to wait nearly 15 minutes for their food to arrive while the rest of the table was nearly finished eating. My FC was dry and waffles were undercooked and tasted like batter, the salmon Benedict had cold cucumber, which ruined the dish. The coffee was bad and so was the espresso. The only thing good were the potatoes. The quality didn't match the cost and the entire experience left us knowing that we definitely won't be coming back. Extremely disappointed. :( read more

Really nice Korean fusion brunch restaurant. Ordered the jjapaguri, and lemon ricotta pancakes. Both were excellent. Jjapaguri not too salty or oily. It was also a hearty and large portion. If you're hungry I think you can finish it alone. The pork was also perfectly done and was not rubbery or tough. In fact it melted upon first bite, and in a good way. The pancakes were probably some of the best I ever had. They were very fluffy but not like a sponge cake. It was almost like eating a cake for breakfast. Which I guess it was, after all. Service was fast and friendly. There is one mixed gender restroom inside as well. I recommend this if you're in the area and want brunch with a different twist. Their menu has a great selection. Ever since I've moved across the bridge, I've missed all the amazing brunch spots in SF. I'm just so happy that I've had the pleasure to enjoy this food again. Not pictured below is the French toast stuffed mascarpone cheese! It's fluffy in the side and crispy on the outside! It was the perfect sweet dish to compliment the savory crab cake Benedict. The menu is large and offers generous salads, as well as more traditional breakfast items such as eggs, french toast, and pancakes. Various Korean dishes were available as well. Mimosas as well as teas and coffees were offered. The service was prompt and our waiter refilled my coffee without my needing to ask. Came by with some friends on a Saturday during peak brunch hours! While we waited in line to join the waitlist, we (or at least I) tried to subtlety glance around to the tables on our immediate right and behind us to see what everyone was ordering. We put our name down and explored the area while we waited for a table to be ready. When we were finally seated (ended up being ~45 min-1 hr wait), my friends decided to start off with some drinks. After trying the ube latte at Sweet Maple (one of their sister restaurants), I wasn't keen on ordering another latte, but I had a sip of my friend's green tea latte (w/ almond milk and no cream), and it was surprisingly tasty! I could really taste the green tea. We also ordered the raspberry lemonade and freshly squeezed orange juice, and both were very refreshing (and the orange juice definitely tasted "freshly squeezed")! The Blackstone Benedict was tasty, and the Millionaire's Bacon was sweet and a little smoky. There was a chewiness to it that I really liked, and I could feel my arteries clogging as I ate (in the best way). However, the bread in my Benedict was extremely soggy, so although the flavors were there, the mouthfeel was a little unpleasant. Overall, I'm starting to realize that brunch spots are all pretty similar (if not the same). That being said, if you're looking for a place to eat in the area, I think Kitchen Story is a solid option! read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon with my friend. We put ourselves on the wait list at around 11 AM. Food: My friend ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes with a side of the millionaire's bacon and some eggs. She gave me a few pieces of the bacon and pancakes to try. The pancakes were soft and had a nice lemon flavor. And I enjoyed the sweet and savory flavor of the bacon. The bacon was also tender and melted in my mouth. I ordered the mascarpone stuffed deep fried French toast. I really enjoyed it! I love mascarpone and French toast, so when I saw them put together, I had to try it. The whole thing was big and satisfying. Not too sweet or greasy. A little messy with the powdered sugar around the rim of the plate, but I didn't mind. I also ordered the galbi omurice with adobo sauce. Overall, I liked it! It was a big portion too. It wasn't too salty for me. The galbi inside the rice was tender. The adobo sauce tasted more like a thin gravy to me. If it was supposed to taste like Filipino adobo, it missed the mark for me, but it still tasted good with the omurice. Overall, the food was delicious! A little pricey, but I feel like everything was good quality and big portions. Service: We were seated fast and our orders were taken pretty fast too, but I feel like it took a while to get our check and it was difficult to get help. Service was friendly, but I wish someone checked in on us a little more frequently so I could've asked for more water. Ambiance: Nice outdoor seating, although felt a little cramped. The tables are a little close together, but there's still some space in between where I don't feel too cramped. Unfortunately, I was accidentally hit with a plate and a dog's tail due to the tables being a little close together. Wish there was a bit more space in between the tables. Parking: Street parking outside the restaurant, but also nearby residential parking. I parked in a nearby street and took a quick walk to the restaurant. Overall, I would come here again! Really didn't know what we were expecting when we came here but it blew us away. Located in Northern Oakland on the cutest street, this asian fusion brunch spot was the best choice to go to after walking through a bunch of vintage/ record shops, and for two hungry girls. We ordered the Open-Face Breakfast (right) and Tater Poutine (Left). We were looking for some veggies and they both fulfilled that. The open face was sautéed SOO well, the amount of flavor it had in the (gravy?) sauce paired with the beef patty was so yummy. On the bottom it had this yummy garlic rice and since it was on a skillet it was a bit crispy too hehe. The tater poutine was so filling as well even though it was an appetizer , but the curry flavor of it balanced well with the main dish we got. Definitely enough for 2 small girls to feel satisfied and not overly bloated. Our server was so sweet and accommodating, making sure we were okay. This spot looks like it was in a little neighborhood so it felt so homey and comforting. Will be coming back here when I visit! read more

No apology, no offer to fix it, just indifference. After dropping off our food, no one came back to check in. The food itself looked great and tasted good--I'd give it 5 stars for that--but service was terrible. We waited an hour and 30 minutes even though there were empty tables. It felt like the staff preferred standing around outside over actually serving their guests. Our server didnt really speak any english, and they kept needing to go get any person to answer our questions. long waits before we saw our server, gave us entrees without any plates, and server just would avoid us when we tried to ask for plates. We asked for bill, i thought they understood but then never came back and we had to find another server to get us the bill? It might just have been the server was really new and english was not there strong point, but the restaurant could have given them more support, they seemed really confused about everything. read more

3.5 is a more accurate score, but no halfsies on Yelp. Lol I've been a couple times now but my most recent visit was on a Saturday with friends during peak brunch hours! They get VERY busy so be prepared for a potentially long wait. Ours wasn't too bad that day though (about 25 minutes). They're busy for a reason though - tasty beverages and generally good food. I ordered: - Crab Benedict: delicious! Lots of fresh crab, perfectly poached eggs, and their cripsy Yukon potatoes are *chefs kiss*. The ciabatta is a fun twist. - Avocado Toast: It has all the right ingredients (always down for radish, scallions, cherry tomatoes, red onion, etc.) but I didn't love how it came together. The avocado was a bit too "smashed" -(the texture was too loose, almost like they but the avocado in a blender). The bread also wasn't toasted enough. A chunkier avocado spread and a minute or too longer in the toaster - this would be a winner. - Millionnaire's Bacon: flavor-wise this is GOOD. You can't really go wrong ordering their bacon, but I personally prefer bacon a bit more well done. If you do too, then I'd say go for the Millionaires Candy bacon instead.
