I could be mistaken but I don't believe the bibimbap comes with sprouts despite its name. I hope they add some bean sprouts to the dish! We also ordered some drinks. The service was good considering how crowded they were. We had 1:15pm reservations on a Saturday afternoon and were actually seated on time. The food is amazing each plate comes out looking beautiful and tasting even better. We shared the Korean Fried chicken which was delicious, the poutine was so good, it's an interesting mixture of flavors hard to describe. The avocado toast was good, I'm not a fan of radishes and forgot to tell them not to add them so that was a turn off for me. The French toast was fluffy and perfectly presented with mixture of berries, loved it! This place gets crowded so very busy and noisy but once we were seated in our booth we felt cozy and able to speak without yelling. We will definitely be back! Have been frequenting Kitchen Story for quite some time since the pandemic "slowed down" and enabled us to enjoy dine in meals. I have tried many items in their Korean-inspired foods and most of everything I've eaten is delicious. My husband's favorite is the Sailor's Scramble, which he never veers off from. Lucky for him, he gets to taste test all the new items I get to order. Service is very friendly, but slow even on non-busy days - not sure why despite being less crowded. On weekends there is always a wait so plan ahead. There's 2 stories to the quaint restaurant alongside a restroom on each floor. Noise is moderate so you can comfortably talk to and hear each other. Located on busy College Ave surrounded by residential streets, VIP parking is rare. Give them a try. Your belly will thank you. read more

Came here twice in as many months, once without a reservation which took about 15 minutes to get seated. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes ($15) are the highlight, while the Florentine Benedict ($19) was solid but nothing special. The Sprout Bibimbap ($19) was good but it seems that they missed the fried egg, although it had taken enough time for the dish to come out that we didn't bother correcting it. We had an issue with the Ube Latte coming out hot even though we ordered it iced, but they did correct it right away. Their menu advertises three beers on tap, but both times they said nothing was available on tap but they did have some cans. I do appreciate the Asian influence they try to add to classic American brunch dishes, and wish they did so for more of the vegetarian dishes. read more

Very busy restaurant in Rockridge neighborhood. It is not what most people think about Oakland. In a glance it feels like Berkeley. The host is very kind. She noticed I came with an older dog and carry my dog instead of in a leash. Meaning, I have to put my dog in my lap while eating. I asked whether it is okay. She smiled kindly, compliment my dog is cute and she said no problem at all. I do not see many Asian restaurants have great service. They usually in a rush and impatient. This restaurant is the exception; they waitress have courtesy. Got my caffeine. It is smooth, bubbly, foamy and has just enough amount of sugar. Not many restaurants has good coffee. I've been here a couple times over the past year. Most times, my experience was decent-- typical of any standard restaurant. However, it was upsetting in my last experience to not only have my order made incorrectly, but then also go back and forth with the waitress about how taking the pork out of the dish was not enough. It needed to be remade. Ultimately, it was discovered the kitchen prepared the wrong dish despite me placing the order correctly. I'm unlikely to return, but hope the experience is more pleasant for others who are willing. read more

I had a better experience this time around. I met up with friends for an 11:30 reservation and we were seated immediately despite the fact that it was crazy busy as always. We ordered right after the last of our friends arrived. Our drinks came first and I loved their take on the michelada. It was presented as a Bloody Mary with all the veggie fixins. I ate all the veggies on that skewer because it was saturated in the michelada. YUMMMY! We shared the chicken wings appetizer and when it arrived, we devoured it, so good, but I noticed that my chicken meat was a bit pink and I started to doubt the thorough cooking of it. I told our server and she stated that the chicken is marinated and it all looks pink. We just sat there like 'ummm.' So she canceled it from the receipt and took the chicken back. We added ourselves through yelp waitlist and got sat almost immediately at the bar I'm from SoCal and I have been missing the Millionaire's bacon. The bacon was everything I asked for and more! Came out to the town because I've been wanting to come here for a couple years now. After making the trek through the tunnel and finding a fabulous parking spot, The Teen and I walked a block, and were seated surprisingly fast. Ambiance was cool, everybody was engaged in conversation on this lovely blue sky day. She: a waffle and a side of bacon. Me: A Blackstone Benedict NO tomatoes. Us: Water The Teen stated her waffle was a little on the sweet side, but the bacon was OK. I don't think salmon and Blackstone really sound like, but they brought me the wrong order, so I wasn't able to truly enjoy breakfast with The Teen. Such a cute place! The Kitchen Story has been bookmarked forever and I finally got to go with a friend and I'm so glad we finally made it happen! Great food, slow service. We came here based on a recommendation from a friend. We arrived for brunch at 10am. There was a large line of people and a kiosk to check in at. We put our name on the list and it stated a 15-30 minute wait. So we decided to wait it out. During our time waiting, there were so many empty tables and no one being sat at them. Unfortunately, it seemed like they were very low staffed and they seemed overwhelmed. Finally after 45 minutes, we finally sat down. Within minutes someone came to take our order. Then we waited about 40 minutes till our food arrived. My tea was cold, and our food was barely warm. But the Florentine Benedict and the chicken Benedict were delicious and perfectly presented. The staff set up the table and we placed our order. I had the Korean fried chicken and waffles. The food came out relatively fast. The waffle was Belgium style waffle with a sugary crust. The waffle was fluffy and delicious. The chicken was made fresh and hot. Reminded me of a more refined popcorn chicken from boba shops. I love Kitchen Story! It is consistently one of my favorite brunch spots. It's always poppin and they don't take reservations on weekends so just be sure to get there and add yourself to the list. I didn't realize it was a 2 story restaurant and the upstairs seating is so cute! They also have a parklet and outside seating. The service is always very attentive and sweet here. But the star of the show is the inventive and delicious dishes. The American food with Korean fusion really elevates all of the flavors to another level. 100/10 recommend the tots poutine. The ube latte was very creamy and had good ube flavor, but wished the espresso in it was a little smoother. I would have given 5 stars, but knocked off a star because the other party that was seated at the exact same time as us got their food, check, and left the restaurant before we even received our food. Getting seated was quick, but we waited ~45min min from the time we got our text that our table was ready. Went during Thanksgiving week before 11:30 and was seated in a few minutes, but it got super busy right after us. We sat outside in the little parklet in nice weather so it was perfect. I was pretty torn about what to order because I wanted the Millionaire bacon but also wanted other things on the menu. Pro-tip: Order a Millionaire Mary, which comes with a slice of the bacon to satisfy your craving. :) I got the Korean Fried Chicken benedict (forgot the menu name). Super good, big portion as well. I came on a weekday with my brother, didn't really expect much or had high expectations but boy did they go above and beyond. Not once did I have to ask for a plate to be taken or for napkins or anything, they were on point and so kind. We ordered to share a tornado galbi omurice, jjapaguri, and French toast aswell an Orange juice and an espresso martini. The interior was so cute but was a little small but they did have a bar!! As for the food, it was very yummy. The coconut latte was awesome. The noodle dish had tons of flavor and was a little sweet. I wish it was slightly spicier but it was still a really interesting and tasty dish. The mascarpone stuffed French toast was also great. The flavor of the French toast itself was really unique and there was the perfect amount of mascarpone inside. Being deep fried, the French toast was a little oily, but the addition of the fruit helped cut that. Still, both dishes were really heavy. This feels like a good hangover meal or if you're going to treat yourself. But it is very heavy so unless you're conscious about eating about half of a dish you're going to feel very sluggish after. As for the location, it's in a really great area and the decor was really cool. They have only one bathroom which is back behind the bar. It's very bustling. They won't seat you unless everyone in your party is there (no late arrivals). They're very strict about how long you can sit at your table and will ask you to leave if they feel you've been there too long. Everyone was really very nice despite the rules. read more

We put our name on the waitlist with 37 people ahead of us, ran errands, and came back when we were 5th in line -- still waited another 30 minutes, so expectations were high. At that point, I assumed the food was going to be amazing. Unfortunately, it wasn't. After ordering, it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. My son received his drink first, and my coffee didn't come out until 20 minutes later. During our entire wait, no one checked on our table to see if we needed anything. I asked a waiter for napkins and was completely ignored. Moments later, I watched the same waiter rush over to accommodate another couple who appeared more affluent. When the bill came, I had to ask again for napkins. The food itself was just okay -- definitely not worth the long wait or the price. Food: 1. Omurice - Good flavors, nothing too overpowering. The sauce is not too much or too thick and adds a nice touch to the rice. The rice does have a lot of onions though in case you do not like onions! 2. Chicken Maple Melt - This one surprised me! It was so good and the bread was so soft. I love the flavors and the tomato soup was sooo good. I love dipping the sandwich in the tomato soup. The only thing that threw me off a little bit was the salad, a bit salty. We were in the area and decided to look for a breakfast spot. My husband picked this place because the food looked really good. First thing I noticed when I came in was it was charming and cute. Second thing I noticed was the server wasn't very friendly. Everyone has bad days, right? I let it go and try not to let things like that get to me. Other than her not being friendly, the service was pretty good. There was a lady behind the bar, who was super chipper and personable. She made up for the other server. She also gave me a new set of utensils because my fork was bent. I know that some people may not pay attention to small details, but the OCD in me inspects everything. The wall next to me was filthy (I know, I wasn't eating off of it) and could use a deep clean. The table felt grimy and greasy. Like I said, OCD. What bothers May not bother another. My husband loved his food. He got the grilled veggie sandwich and it was served with a tomato bisque. I loved the soup. He also got buttermilk pancakes, which he also really loved. My son got the BEC - not sure if it means Bacon Egg Cheese, and he said the bacon was the best he's ever tasted. I got the crab Benedict and it was so yummy.
