Popcorn Chicken
John W.

Kitty's Cafe is a Taiwanese style eatery in the north side of the SGV. We stopped by to grab a quick snack. This used to be Copycat Cafe as a heads-up for those wondering. When you come inside, you'll notice a retro look as there are things that still are in transition from Copycat. But that doesn't mean that the food itself was solid. We ordered a set of popcorn chicken for the road and after about 10 minutes, we got our bag full of popcorn chicken goodies. The chicken was delicious - not too crispy and super flavorful. Had a slightly sweet flavor and was nice and hot. The only thing that would've helped would have been some sweet and sour sauce. At least on the weekend, there's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. The owners are super nice. Know they commented to us that they have been having a tougher time during the pandemic with some lost business around town so they could definitely use the help!

when the lady said they were out of boba and takoyaki I knew the food was going to slap. They make taiwanese food with rice and broccoli l. I got the pork chop. crispy and flavorful. don't let the storefront fool you. the winter melon tea was also very nice and intense. And for the price you can't beat it.

Long read...Okay I by chance found this place. For those that want inexpensive, simple and well rounded meals this is a place to go. It's a mom and pop shop and presentation of the place isn't anything to write about, except for the price for the food you get and the great taste! It seems like this is a hidden, low key, gem of sorts - look at the photo of the two plates. Two plates and a boba drink cost me $20.95!! For the amount of food, comparing this to escalating prices elsewhere, this place is a good value! The way I eat my meals, this is an opportunity to counter act the inflationary aspect of food, possibly a plan is to come in and buy like 10 plates with differing mains based off their menu and throw them into the freezer for the week and microwave what you want to eat. I (me) can get two meals out of a plate so technically I can eat for a work week for a little less than $50! Cash only place!!!

This place use to be Copycat Cafe, but it seems to be renamed now, although retaining the same menu. I use to come at least once a week back in high school, and still come sometimes for their rice bowls and drinks! Affordable, and an all around great place to come for locals. When I visited, they weren't open but I'll be sure to come back another time!

Fb group removed my neither bashing nor negative review, it was an honest review so people can see different point of view!

Somehow my fb pic doesn't show up. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. My comment was removed by fb group called SGV Eats. I know it has nothing to do with the owner. But my comment was not negative nor bashing, was hoping to give honest feedbacks. Very disappointed by the fb group!!! I am posting it here so people can see it. The comment I made on fb was that for the set dinner, there wasn't much difference between the 2 vs 3 vs 4 ppl in terms of amount of food. I don't mind paying more for more food, but if it didn't make much of a difference then I would opt for the cheaper set. At least one other commenter agreed with me. But yet fb group didn't allow me to post anything less than a raving review. I don't want other people to complete believe what the fb group says. Why can't I leave honest review like this? It is to make the owner know what he can do to improve customers' experience!

The food here is awful. I ordered Hainan Chicken and it was microwaved and bland. The pork chop is a little better but I would go elsewhere if taste is important to you. Sometimes we find restaurants than look crappy but serve up great food. The food match show this place looks.

I am extremely disappointed in the food quality of this place. I've ordered tons of Taiwanese food deliveries from various places throughout the pandemic, and I have never had such bad experience. Of the food we ordered, we got spoiled Taiwanese sausages, burnt meatballs, burnt fried fish cake, and oyster pancake completely made wrong without gelatin. I will not be returning.

They have daily family meal special. Food was delicious and it came with authentic Cantonese soup. You can use WhatsApp to join their mailing list. 626-348-1338

A lot of rice for a 3 person meal!

Great variety and low prices, friendly staff. Small dining area but I always feel welcome and happy to stay when there is space!

I kept thinking, *"How many boba shops do we really need?"* One thing that stood out was their ordering system - they don't use the usual percentage options for sweetness and ice. Instead, they have "Perfect Sweet" and "Perfect Ice." Whatever that means, right? I was still skeptical. I waited until I got home so my wife and I could try it together. Mind. Blown. Even though it's a bit of a drive for us, we've already gone back three times in a month. That might not sound like much to some people, but for us to make a special trip just for boba says everything. It's not the fastest. You'll probably wait 5-10 minutes in full, but perfection takes time, and it's absolutely worth it. Suggestion: a stamp or loyalty card would be awesome. No disrespect to the brand, but I think the real Torotea fans would appreciate it.

They provide self-serve water outside of the store in the case that there is a long wait. Fortunately, this has never been the case when I have visited. The employees were also super helpful and very well-versed with their menu. They knew exactly what drink paired well with what jelly. All the drinks are true to the taste profile as described on the website. The Popcorn Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Tapiochi is one of the most popular items and it was indeed very buttery. It had a very unique taste profile, but definitely not for me. I personally really really really enjoyed the Misty Oolong MT which had a light-roasted, malty flavor with subtle buttery highlights. It paired perfectly with the osmanthus jelly. The best drink Torotea has to offer by far!

I inquired about it and they said I'd have to pick a different topping so I went with the agar boba. Apparently they did not give us honey boba. I was staring at it up close since it looked so different so they asked if something was wrong. I thought maybe it was because it was the last of the previous batch that it looked so soft and mishapen. Since July 4th they've been switching to mochi honey boba instead because of popularity/increased demand. They said it was a real hit on July 4th weekend. The mochi boba had a lovely texture and flavor but definitely could have used more haha. They had to boil a whole new batch. Agar boba was fine but I was super disappointed that I didn't get boba because that's what I actually wanted. The shop was quiet with nobody else inside besides my cousin and kid and I. The gyokuro was pretty bitter (as if it was steeped too long. Maybe it was just matcha and bitter? But I thought gyokuro was just tea leaves?) and not sweet at all. I couldn't finish it because of how bitter it was. I kept it in the fridge and drank it next day and it mellowed out significantly. The mango slush was honey boba was pretty good. They recommended it with lychee jelly but my 5 year old was not interested haha. I think I'm spoiled after having torotea because it is such an amazing experience from start to finish and every flavor is absolutely delicious and perfect. Chapresso is overrated and fine when you don't wanna wait for torotea. You probably just need to order the right thing and for them to have boba when you want it. If I ever go back I'd try one of the iron goddess oolong or one of their matcha drinks.

Aesthetics in the shop is pretty nice, very modern and bright, perfect spot to do work. Parking - Shared with Afters Ice Cream right across, very small parking lot, 4 spots only. Street parking is available but the street itself is a one way street. My wife and I both shared the Onyx Hojicha MT and the Oreo Uji Matcha, both were very refreshing as the day was pretty warm. The drinks came out pretty fast as well so props to the staff for preparing them quickly. The matcha is not very overwhelming which is always a good sign to see when you purchase matcha drinks. Oreo mixed with matcha is always a solid choice for me so I recommend this drink when you visit. Overall, a very simple but high quality shop, it's a bit on the expensive side when it comes to tea shops but it's definitely worth checking them out as their drinks are on the higher quality side.

My daughter and I came on a Wednesday evening after visiting the excellent Dumpling Wei next door. We were welcomed into a busy, student-filled cafe. The decor is understated, worn, and very student driven, with a charming sign offering a free milk drink to any student who ordered a full meal during a challenging exam week - how kind [+1 point for service]. We ordered from a screen; call me old fashioned, but I like being greeted and the place wasn't busy enough to justify such a streamlined experience. We ordered the original waffle with vanilla ice cream. It took about 10 minutes as we entertained ourselves with the claw machine and got lucky - twice. The waffle was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, with a distinct fortune-cookie flavor. It was delicious, and paired perfectly with the vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. We did not get a filling nor try the delectable appearing chocolate waffle - next time! Prices were elevated - $8 for the waffle and $2.50 for the ice cream (complete with whipped cream and chocolate syrup), but the unique product was absolutely delicious. While my undergraduate career was 20 years ago, I really can appreciate a place like this. Were I a student at PCC, I would simply live at this establishment. Good for a quick dessert and perfect for students, Bubble Puff & Tea is well worth a stop. Food: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Value: 3.5/5
