Really enjoyed our dinner! I'm going to compare everything to Pho Lantern since they are the only pho restaurants in the general area. Food: I generally like both places, Pho Lantern definitely has more options but I like the Pho meat selections better at KJB. Mainly because they had a lot of combos with meatballs which I love and normally have to pay extra for. I prefer the broth more at KJB because it seems lighter and cleaner. We also got egg rolls and they were great--came out hot and delicious! Location: KJB is generally harder to park but I think there's a lot in the back of the strip mall. Restaurant/service: a lot more space and tables in Pho lantern but I would say KJB is much cleaner. Maybe because it's newer. Welcomed immediately by Hannah who set the tone for a treasured dining experience. This is a tiny establishment that delivers BIG!!! I visited specifically for bành xèo. I appreciated that I could substitute the pork and shrimp with tofu. This one was super thin and crispy. Plentiful of mung beans daikon and tofu. Very heavy on the tumeric. The accompanying mint, lettuce and cucumbers were unbelievably fresh and crisp. I could not resist eating the entire thing! Service is always phenomenal - the owner is super accommodating with anything you might need. Some of my fav dishes are the grilled pork vermicelli, banh xeo, and shaken beef. Best vietnamese food in town! Newport Beach has great food but not many places that serve Vietnamese food. Their grilled pork over rice tasted amazingly fresh and well seasoned. I also had the appetizer combo which is all of their appetizers on the menu. Everything was freshly cooked and brought out quickly. The store owner was very kind and came out to check in on us. What brought me here were all the pictures of the crepe, and it did not disappoint! It was hot, crisp, and greasy which was perfectly balanced by the side of lettuce, mint, pickled radish/carrots, and fish sauce. It was truly perfect bite after perfect bite. And it was HUGE. I also got egg rolls-- piping hot, perfect crunch, and no bad aftertaste from old oil. Served with the same vegetables mentioned above and dipping sauce that is so good. They asked if it was my first time at the restaurant, and brought me a complimentary egg roll to try (it was very good!). The food had large portions, I couldn't finish the soup bowl. Came here on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. When we walked in it wasn't too busy but soon after many tables started filling up. There aren't too many tables inside but they have more seating outside as well. Everything is clean and well kept. You can tell this is a small family run business and they were doing the best they could with handling online orders, walk ins, and dine ins. They kept apologizing to us because of the wait but it was totally okay and understandable. All the workers there especially the two ladies are so kind and the sweetest people ever. The food did take some time to come out but everything tasted so fresh. We didn't get a picture of it but we ordered the pork and shrimp egg rolls and they were absolutely spectacular. They were hot and crunchy but I do wish the sauce had a stronger taste but that could just be my personal preference. I got the pho combination and it tasted very smooth and clean.
