I do not know what's up with mira mesa, they are just scared to use ingredients. Please, wannabe pizza joints use some flavor, you already have the dough and the oven. I wish I could write a review on the pizza, but while at work I attempted to order delivery. The employee wouldn't take my order as I was out of their delivery zone. My work is literally across the street from where their delivery zone ends. I understand having a line, but can't you service both sides of it!? My girlfriend and I decided to try Knockout pizza in Mira Mesa for the first time. I called a take out order for meat pie that includes pepperoni, canadian bacon, meatball, and salami on a 14 in. Also, we added an italian sub to the order. The order was to be done in 15 mins. I must say I had a hard time finding the place hidden in a corner on the other side of Fresh & Easy. However, the guys were nice about directing me there. I found out that they been in Mira Mesa for 7 years and yet I've been utilizing NYpizza, Dominos and Pizza Hut. I must say my girlfriend and I were happily surprised that the meat pie pizza was actually pretty good. We could only compare it to calzone but in a round pie version. The Italian hero was good as well. It had just enough dressing on it. I would say overall a good experience and had plenty of leftovers between the two of us. We will eat there again. My cousin decided to order in last night and now I finally had a chance to eat a fresh (well, it was delivery) pizza from them. It was pretty good! I would have preferred more sauce but other than that, everything was good! The toppings were plentiful (Ordered a Meat Lovers type pizza) and the crust was just right. Finally, a pizza place in San Diego that I would actually order from again. We placed an order for 5 specialty pizzas on a Saturday at about 7. They said it would be about 90 minutes- which is fine, we got a late start. Pizza was there in 45.... Great, but a weird overestimation of time. Above average NY style Pizza. They have pretty good lunch specials and I would say it is better than any other pizza in Mira Mesa. 2 slices and a drink is my go to....but I tried a spinach mushroom pinwheel and it was a nice addition. They have quite a few different types that are easily and quickly put back into the oven once ordered. Splashed on the front page of the Clipper Magazine, a few pages away from the sketchy looking Pizza Depot, a couple friends and I skeptically decided to try Knockout Pizzeria. We ordered 2 extra large "Meat Bomb"s and the second our food came out, and our silent doubts were quickly put to rest. The pizza came out hot, fresh, and steaming and we were pleasantly surprised by the huge portions. The garlic knots are heavenly, too! The service here is great, every time we've gone back (and we've gone back a lot, we don't really eat pizza anywhere else anymore), the people have been friendly and welcoming - and a couple times they've graciously given us drinks on the house. I like it because of the amazing lunch special. $6 - 2 slices of pizza and a drink. My sister and I went here during my lunch break and we were impressed by the deal. I brought my own water bottle so we had a cheap meal for the two of us. She had pepperoni and I had veggies/pepperoni. You choose your slice, they warm it up, and deliver it to your seat. Convenient and good. I also got one of those cards that they punch for every purchase, so my 10th slice is free! This may take a whole year for me. lol. read more

Plain and simple, it's good food. I love the dough they use for the pizza crust, bread, and garlic knots. Reminds me of those times I did visit New York and had pizza in those corner pizzerias. Pizza isn't bad. A bit pricey, even though the sauce doesn't taste fresh. But it was good. The problem I had however, was the cheesecake. I went to bite into it, but it was frozen. Galic knots, I love you. Calzone was delicous and cheesy but still could taste the ingredients. Dough was light and fresh. The sauce was great and I'm loving the place. I come here often for lunch because of the price and variety, although I get the same 3 pizzas - God Father, Meat Bomb, and/or Sicilian Pepperoni. Pizza quality is OK. They basically reheat slices in an oven for a couple of mins. It's a little greasy, but tastes fine to me, definitely not gourmet. It ends up being $6.50 for 2 slices and a drink after taxes. It can get crowded at times, so it might be hard to find a table for 4 or more, but there is plenty of seating outside in the courtyard area. read more

Knockout has fantastic pizza. The sauce is super good and the garlic knots are really tastey. However my one gripe with the place is the service/ staff. These guys seem totally unhappy with life. I tried this pizza a couple of days ago at a meeting, and I was instantly impressed...I almost exclusively prefer NY style pizza, and so many places don't realize that a true NY pizza has a thin crust...and a thin crust should be kin to a suggestion of crust...not an hour-long conversation. Knockout got it right...so I ordered a pie for me and two friends at 6pm on Friday night. I live in the vicinity of SDSU, so it's a bit of a drive, but I thought it was worth it. I headed out to grab the pizza and some ice-cold beer... 20 minute later, I have the beer tucked away in my Jeep, and I head in to grab the pizza. $20 for a large with sausage and mushroom...not bad. And they use the flat cuts of sausage that I really like, another bonus. I stow the box and take off... About halfway home, I smell the smell of "not sausage," and flip the box open to indeed reveal...sigh...pepperoni. Dammit. I hate pepperoni. Dammit. Only one thing to do...go back. Dammit. I call them, and start explaining what happened to the kid who answered the phone, including that I was agitated and the kid just hands the phone to a guy...without telling me...so when I figure out someone new is on the phone, I have to explain it all over. The guy apologized and said they'd start making my pizza right away. I turn around...dammit. Now let me just say that I work in retail...for a company that's know for excellent customer service...and I was thinking as I drove back that they had an opportunity to gain a customer for life, or to lose one completely. I parked and walked in with the incorrect pizza...the guy behind the counter said he was sorry, and that someone else got my pizza...so they had a messed up one, too...as though that should make me feel better. I was just irritated at that point. He then said..."and for your trouble you can have a Coke, Diet Coke..." I interrupted him and told him I don't drink soda. He said, "fine." That was it. He offered me a bottle of soda that probably cost him $.89...and that was for my trouble? Nope...not ok. He should have made me a new pizza and given me a refund for my trouble. Had it been me, I would have looked at it as a $20 investment. And I would have gone in once or twice a month for sure...because I really like the pizza. But now...because he decided to be cheap and make my time worth $.89...he'll never see me again. On another note, he took the pizza I brought back and put it in his pizza case...I could have done anything to that pizza, and no one would have known. Besides which, that's a huge health department violation for that very reason. PLUS!!! My beer was warm by the time I got home...dammit. Bottom line, good pizza...but stupid customer service. Happy this pizza place was located in the plaza right next to my hotel on Mira mesa. I got a chicken club pizza and pepperoni both were good but they really need to improve on their customer service seriously the younger guy working there ask me "what do want" no hello what can I get you.... when I came back a few days later his attitude pissed me off so I told him nevermind and left. I never went back for my whole 2 week vacay. All I can say is good pizza BAD customer service. If I could I would have cussed the younger guy out. And yes lunch specials sucks reheated old pizza!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!! We decided to give this place a shot after receiving a flyer in the mail. We called in our order and the guy was EXTREMELY rude on the phone and very unhelpful. We picked up the pizza and carried it outside to eat in the courtyard. I took the chili shaker with me with full intentions on bringing it back after we were done and he screamed while we were walking outside "you can't take my chili with you" as he's running for the door. I explained to him that I was going to bring it back after I used it and he insisted I give it back right then. We ate our pizza outside and read the yelp reviews. I wish we would have read them prior to ordering as others have clearly experienced the same customer service. We went back in to throw our trash away and asked if he was the owner. He said yes and we asked if he had read his yelp reviews. We told him he should and we would never be back. He then flipped us off in front of a large family with 6 young children. There is a senior/older guy at the counter and he carries a strong attitude. With tons of pizza place near by I wouldn't do that and be friendly. One of the slices in our pizza had a hair in it and this was the last slice. I felt so bad after eating most of it and finding this hair in the last slice. The taste wasn't the best either....... I love this place! Thin crust new York style pizza is my favorite and I've tried places all over, the flavor that they get is so delicious, I can't get enough. It's made fresh right in front of you the guy is tossing dough. The staff has always been so nice and friendly and the selection is great, tons of options even though I'm more of a traditional slice person.
