Koa Pancake House is a good option for fast service and some good options for breakfast or brunch. Relaxed atmosphere with a bunch of people just looking to get their eat on. Police officers eat at restaurants during their shifts and know where to get good food. There were 2 tables with HPD officers eating. Not your ordinary restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your order to your table. If you're looking for a server to flambé your crepes table side, this is not the place for you. Koa offers fast, friendly service offering a solid breakfast/brunch menu with great specials. There is a parking lot, street parking and and a lot nearby. I got the Koa burrito for $7.5 and it came with a small dollop of sour cream and enough salsa for three bites. Breakfast in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii... On Thursday, October 22, 2020, The State of Hawaii progressed to Tier 2 of the plan to re-open businesses. We were now allowed to meet in groups of 5 or less for dining-in - and we don't have to be from the same household any more! Yay! To take advantage of this situation, Bruddah Fran and I met at Koa Pancake House on 12th Avenue. I haven't been to this breakfast place in many, many years. I had forgotten that they have a few free parking spaces along the driveway that fronts the entrance. Luckily, we met early and I found metered street parking. There's also a municipal lot behind the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant was so spacious because the tables and chairs were pushed to the side... Oh, oh... That means No Dining-in! Shucks! We tried Kahala Mall... No tables and chairs there either... So, we ended up at a park! Good thinking, Bruddah Fran! Anyway... Back to the restaurant... The service was very good! Linda was our cashier and hostess. She was local-kine friendly and politely efficient! She brought our meals to us outside while we waited for the food to be cooked. It was such a short time before she came out and told us, "Time waits for no one!" That means for everyone to hurry and come here for a great breakfast deal! We both ordered the mushroom, spinach, and cheese omelette which comes with three pancakes! Whoa! It was so filling and yummy that we couldn't finish! I literally had food coma and when I woke up at home, I ate the rest of the pancakes for dinner! I especially liked the cheddar cheese in the omelette and the fluffiness of the pancakes! Mmm! Maybe the negative reviews and are for the Koa Houses in Kaneohe and/or Pearl City? I've been going to the Kaimuki Koa House regularly for years and have never had a bad experience! The service is always friendly and the food arrives quickly. Every once is awhile you have to wait because, well, they're busy. Nothing out of the ordinary though. The food is always delicious. We order the Vinha D'alhos plate, and the taste ranges from "this is really good" to "omg this is amazing". Their omelettes are also wonderful, not runny (although you may be able to ask if that's how you like the eggs), and stuffed with very fresh vegetables, cheese or meats. I think they may precook the onions, which I appreciate because you don't get that raw crunchy onion taste in the omelette. Oh and the pancakes are also yummy! Came to Koa Pancake in Kaimuki for the pancakes on a friend's recommendation. Was pleasantly surprised to also have some of the best grilled mahi mahi as well. Ordered the breakfast plate with Mahi Mahi as my "meat", two eggs over easy and macadamia nut pancakes. Total was $20.37 including a large OJ. Staff was quite friendly and helpful You order at the counter and they give you a number to put on your table. In less than five minutes they brought me the freshly prepared food. All tasted great. Pancakes were light and fluffy and moist (a challenge with the nuts). Eggs were soft and runny. And the Mahi Mahi was fantastic. Highly recommend stopping here. read more

Always a local favorite, but I haven't been in a while! The menu keeps expanding and I love it! This time we tried the vin d'ahlos (pronouced vindalosh by the employees) which is a Portuguese pulled pork with adobo-like vinegar flavor. It was very flavorful and not too pungent. The plate came with mac and I chose potatoes (because they are the best) and the mac salad was sooo good. We also tried the fried rice which was a good portion and very flavorful. Taylor got a big breakfast with multiple meats, eggs, and pancakes. You can also get coconut syrup upon request. He ate it all! And they just started a rewards program so you can get points! I am incredibly disappointed in this place. I have been coming here almost every weekend for the last six months and it has gotten progressively worse. On my last visit my eggs Benedict was on a butter muffin. They didn't mention they were out of english muffins, so I'm not sure if this is normal- but it was terrible. This visit I sat there for 35 minutes right in front of the counter with no food. It's getting close to my daughters dance class, so i finally decide to check what is going on. After waiting in the long line I get an explanation that the printer jammed and the order didn't print out. Pancakes are what they're known for so get it. Large, fluffy, and filling. I don't think you can eat a ful stack and still be starving. Fruit toppings are a plenty in choices. On the take out options, they give a good portion and never ran out. The whip cream was really good, and although the strawberry was probably frozen it was still a nice compliment. Banana is another winner and they use slices of banana for that strong Carmelized banana flavor. None of that guessing if you taste a hint of banana. The eggs Benedict for me wasn't great. Had to stop into one of my favorite places when visiting the island. Told my wife about it so much that this place just could not disappoint. Self serve but with delicious food that screams island vibe. You know it's delicious when the locals hit this place up. The Macadamia Pancakes we're so fluffy and crunchy. Service is unbelievable from the time you walk in, placing your order even if it's your first time, while seated, and as you leave. Today, it was busy so a simple burrito order took 30 minutes to get ready. Seems like there is no manager and when I inquired at 25 minutes, the staff person said to look at the wall where there was a sign that said 30 minutes wait time. When I placed the order the cashier didn't say anything. Very likely the sign went up after I ordered. Then when I finally got my simple order, a new sign said 40 minutes. Well, let me just say that the pancakes were fantastic and the pork sausage was amazing. They both came out piping hot and they were delicious. The employees were really nice and the restaurant was clean which to me is really important. Now the reason I rated the restaurant four stars is because I also ordered eggs and home fries which came out way before the pancakes and came out cold. Well, not really cold but certainly lukewarm. I know they are a busy restaurant, but the timing in the kitchen could be better and having some restaurant experience, I know that the eggs and home fries should not go on until the pancakes have been flipped so that everything can come out hot at the same time. This place has been around for years and we used to go a ton. Granted this isn't a steakhouse but we ordered the steak for the breakfast plate and it was horrible to say the least. Rubber hard, very rare when we asked for medium, and just overall hard to cut and not tasty. Plus they give you plastic cutlery which makes it even harder to cut. Iced coffee don't get! There were tons of chunks of coffee grinds in the iced coffee and overall just not tasty at all I got the Portuguese sausage which was pretty good and fried rice was good too. I remember when I was in high school, i'd get an order of the chocolate chips from here before heading to school and feel like a boss eating my pancakes in class LOLOL Koa Pancake House has always been one of my favorite local breakfast spots because the food is so good but also very reasonably priced (especially during my broke high school days haha) and there's so many memories in this iconic location. I don't have recall eating much else here besides my go-to chocolate chip pancakes haha so when I finally went with my food friends, I was super stoked to try more items! They have a new "Big Deal Plate" which comes with - 2 each of link sausages, portuguese sausage, spam, bacon, eggs + vinha d'alhos, 1 scoop rice, 3 pancakes for $15 (which is honestly an AMAZING deal because I could probably have eaten that as three separate meals) The Guava Lava Mochi Waffle is also a new item that we tried. The waffle is actually a butter mochi concoction which was super interesting and worked SO well. It had the kind of powdery (?) yet soft and chewy texture of a butter mochi. I think next time I come I'll just get the regular mochi waffle, since I'm more of a simple gal that doesn't need the fancy guava and whipped cream on top. I really enjoyed the Spinach Mushroom Cheese Omelette ($10.65), especially with the soft, fluffy potatoes! The Koa Moco ($10.95) was also a crazy good deal. It came with a patty and corned beef hash on rice, smothered in gravy and two eggs your way. The whole thing was sooo huge the plate sank with the weight. The Sweet 3 was a trio of french toast with banana, blueberries and strawberries, and although I'm not a huge french toast person, I really enjoyed these. I think they used sweet bread, which is probably why I liked it so much. Buuuuut I wasn't a huge fan of how soggy the strawberries got, so I'll probably just stick to the banana french toast if I do end up craving it. read more

The pancakes were soggy and bland, so it wasn't too great. The trio was a lot smaller than expected and just didn't taste too good. the omelet also looked small and was sub-par at best. I am writing to inform management so hopefully they do some quality control. I have recently been ordering from here once a week. On July 4th I ordered our regular order. Instead of getting chocolate chip pancakes, we got mac nut pancakes and my son didnt eat it. The breakfast burrito had kahlua pig, making it inedible for me due to dental issues, the bacon was burnt to a crisp and I asked for regular, and the fried rice was so beyond peppered that my mouth was on fire and I had to throw it out so all of our items were wrong or ruined. They claimed they didn't have internet and didn't get the ticket yet other QR code orders had come out.
