Unpopular opinion here, but I don't think the food here is that good.... I remember loving this place as a kid, but for the last couple of years, it hasn't been good. I've had it a couple of times this year and I keep hoping that the food will get better, and that maybe it was just an off day. I ordered a Portuguese sausage and fried rice plate, but the sausage was burnt, and the fried rice tasted as if it was spoiled, and had a sour taste, almost as if natto was mixed in it. The eggs looked like they were powdered eggs, and I didn't even try it. It's hard to mess up breakfast food. Both times that I've had their food I couldn't even finish my plate, which is a bummer. I'm all about supporting local businesses but maybe they need to find new chefs IMO. read more

I went with my sister this morning and paid $44.00 for a simple breakfast for two. Service was almost non-existent and slow - when my waffle took so long that my sister had almost finished her breakfast, I asked where my waffle was and the cook told me to "relax"! As long as I can remember, Koa Pancake House has never disappointed me. I'd remember visiting the Kaneohe location with my friends after a sleepless night of sleepovers during our high school days. And after years away from the island for college, my wife and I are home for good and revisited this local chain at their Kaimuki location. All I can say is we left with a stellar experience. From what I remember, Koa Pancake House used to be a classic dine-in experience where a hostess would seat you, and pay after you've eaten. Now, it seems it's more of a casual sit-down experience where you order and pay at the counter first, take a seat anywhere you'd like, and receive your food on paper plates and utensils. To be honest, I enjoy these more casual settings; you can eat at your own pace and when you're finished, you simply throw away your rubbish and leave with full and happy bellies. The interior is filled with wood accents and you'd presume it to be Koa wood. But after some research with a video of the owner, Juno Chung, he stated that the restaurants are lined with Koa laminate as real Koa wood would be very expensive. When putting in our order, the receptionist was very friendly and had the best smile on and gave us exceptional and friendly service. It was the most memorable part of our experience. Now, let's move on to the food! My wife ordered the High Steaks Omelette, which has steak, mushrooms, white onion, and bell peppers with Macadamia Nut Pancakes and that comes with three generous pancakes. I ordered the Koa Moco, and that comes with a hamburger patty and corned been hash. We didn't wait long and couldn't wait to dig in. The High Steaks omelette was filled and tasted just fine. The crunchiness of the onions and bell peppers added a nice offset of textures to the softness of the mushrooms and steak. The macadamia nut pancakes were fluffy and lightly crunchy. The Koa Moco was a heavy plate. On top of a bed of rice laid corned been hash. A thick hamburger patty along with 2 easy-over eggs sat on top of that smothered in their brown gravy. I ordered mac salad for an extra dollar. All I can say is it was absolutely delicious and was a nice comfort food meal. If you're craving for a loco moco, and also like corned beef hash, the Koa Moco is for you. We still had some leftovers so we wrapped our food up (they give you aluminum foil to cover your plate with a plastic bag) and left happily satisfied. Koa Pancake House was a pleasant place to eat from what I remembered and still is to this very day. If you're expecting a cute Instagramable plate of food, you might try and look elsewhere. However, if you want a casual comfort-food dine in experience for an affordable price, then Koa Pancake House should definitely be your next breakfast/brunch spot. With friendly service and food to match, we will surely be stopping in again soon. read more

The food and service here is very good with reasonable prices. We had fried rice, eggs and Portuguese sausage. The macadamia pancakes and mochi waffle was really good as well. You didn't need any syrup because it was sweet enough. The service was very good as well. If you are going on the weekend make sure to go early as it does get pretty busy. Also You have to order at the counter but it's wasn't an issue for use. So if you go make sure to try the fresh squeezed orange juice so good! This place is a must try if your in Hawaii! read more

First off vinha d alhos, pronounced vingadosh is basically a baked pork adobo for those of you who bypass that on the menu because you think what the heck is that. Surprised they don't do a vinha d alhos fried rice since you know..,but honestly they must be sister company to pancakes and waffles. They have the same ish menu and taste. One thing both do well is the crazy combos, benedicts with any meat, & fried rice. Best fried rice at either location but if you like dry fried rice that falls apart well you best be going to a Chinese restaurant. I got their special guava mochi waffle which was pretty good, although a little too sweet with the addition of the whipped cream. The chewiness of the waffle wasn't consistent throughout with some pieces chewy and some pieces were dry, but overall not bad when you compare it to the $16 version anywhere else. The breakfast burrito is filled with meat, potatoes, and egg and was a great savory compliment to the sweet waffle and super filling for the price. If you want some unique options like mochi waffles, they have it and it is affordable. I like how you can get many options for your side with omelets: rice, country potatoes, pancakes, or hashbrowns There's really not many places like this still open. This place has a unique niche and with inflation the way it is, kudos to the owners for keeping prices down. Im sorry but ive been to many on the Island and this was by far prob the worst one,I only order the vinga plate and crispy paid alot to have it uber eats to me in Kaneohe (my fault i though i was ordering from them) anyway it wasnt crispy it was boulders or hard pork with a slight vinegar flavor hardly any taste ,now the ones in Kaneohe and Hawaii kai they make it perfect I couldnt even eat it and the plate was sad I paid 6.49 for delivery for 3 big rocks and 4 tiny rocks in my plate im a pocho the recipe is not the same as mine but when im craving it its the bomb for sure the K town and Hawaii Kai one always hits the spot...sad just sad..please do better KPH ,my uber driver was fantastic! read more

Great place for breakfast. I got the Koa Breakfast Burrito, which was a total bargain at $6.99 -- it's considered a "small bite", but it's actually pretty sizable, and was the perfect amount for me. Loved the Portuguese sausage in it! Wife got a spinach/mushroom/cheese omelette, which she enjoyed -- especially since they paid attention to her request to go light on the cheese. Daughter got spam fried rice with a stack of pancakes, which were both tasty. Coffee was excellent. Service was quick and super-friendly -- the workers there seem like a family, rather than just a bunch of drones. Decor is nice considering it's a basic diner-type place -- I liked the dark wood walls, which I'm assuming are koa (or at least intended to suggest koa wood). Food was okay - nothing super special, but nothing bad. The corned beef hash was the canned stuff. Husband loves the canned, but my gf wanted it to be homemade. I have been eating at Koa Pancake House for many, many years and I have never ever had a complaint but this morning was different. I placed an online order at 9:12 am and the pick up time popped up for 9:35 am. I was very close to their location so I waited for the text they usually send to let me know my order was ready. At 9:40, I checked again online after no text and the pick up time had changed to 9:50 am. I thought to myself.. they must be super busy so I'll be patient. At 9:50, I went online again and it said the new pick up time was 10:15! Almost an hour after I placed the order! I decided to call, because that was ridiculous. The girl that answered said that my order had been sitting there ready at 9:35! She was very apologetic when I arrived and I appreciated that, but when she told me she's not sure why the "square" company or whatever it's called is changing the times and that maybe I should call them to find out why, that pissed me off. Isn't that the Manager's job? She says that the text should go out when they finalize the order on their end, which I'm thinking they never did. Since it was my first time I don't really know what to get and I saw the The Big Deal Plate which Wow, it is a Big Deal , all this food for only $15.00, thats what I call a Big Deal! My daughter got the corned beef hash plate. We placed our order at the front, got our order number, table, then waited patiently for our food. The big deal comes with 2 link sausage, 2 Portuguese sausage, 2 spam, 2 bacon, Vinha d'alhos, 2 eggs , rice and 3 pancakes all for 15.00! First time we tried Vinha d'alhos which is pork marinated in vinegar, garlic, herbs, and spices. My mom really enjoyed it and I brought the leftovers home for my husband which I knew he would love it since it reminds me of a Filipino dish, haha. He asked me where I got the pork from. So much food on the big deal plate, we had leftovers! My daughter enjoyed her cornbeef hash plate, I tried a little of corn beef &fried potatoes and that was yums! The hotel valet recommended this place to me bf she was right to do so. The food came out quick and the server could not have been more pleasant. I ordered the breakfast plate with Portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs and macadamia nut pancakes. The portion was huge for me but I'm happy to have some to take home so I have breakfast tomorrow in my hotel room. It was a bit pricey at $22 with tip but a far a Hawaii priced go, it's pretty much on par with everything else.
