When coming to this Syrian kitchen "Kobee" is their specialty. I've never tried Syrian food before so this choice is a good starter. Once we got inside, we saw people hand making faffel like balls. Then I felt we were in for something good. I went with their "Fried Kobee" because you get 4pcs. verses getting 3pcs. in BBQ. And getting these around $11-12 a plate is expensive. So I tried getting the most of it. "Fried Kobee" After having my first bite, what came to mind is falafel, but this is tastier. Its deep fried oval shaped balls are filled with juicy ground beef blended with spices. I did use the pita breads that came with them, and in the pouch I added in the Kobee, picked beets, pickles strips, and hummus. Combining everything into one tasted really good. Included in the order is a small side of cucumber yogurt. It does appear like there isn't much on the plate. But surprisingly I got fairly full from it. "Beef Shawarma" Two words: Tender and Flavorful. The thin cut slices of beef sirloin tasted so delicious, I was wondering what they used as marinate. This also came with yellow rice and a good portion of a Mediterranean like salad. Parking is small, and when you're on the Main Street be sure to slow down when getting closer to this location. This place is a triple threat! 1) They have plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant so there is no need to drive around looking for a place to park. 2) You can tell that everything is made with love! I ordered a tray of kibbeh nayeh that not only melted in my mouth but also was a work of art. The tray had this intricate design on it using mint leaves, sliced red onions and cilantro. They could have easily just giving me a tray of plain kibbeh nayeh and I'd be more than happy but that's not how they do things here. Every dish is perfection. None of the employees work there wear gloves. The same person who takes your order, handles payments and deals with customers, without washing her hands or wearing gloves went to prepare food. So going to Kobee Factory today was an "I gotta know" moment! I mean how many times have I been on YELP and have seen a solid 5 Star rating? Like never! Shawarma never touched my soul until I tried Kobee Factory. The first time I went, my roommate ordered a beef shawarma wrap and I had the beef kebab. I was truly impressed with my kebab and ate the whole thing (I rarely clean a plate), but my roommate gave me a bite of his shawarma wrap and it blew me away. Oh my gee!!!! This place is the bomb! Let's start off with the A-rating from public health. You can tell as soon as you walk in that this place is clean; the floor, tables, counter, and even the bathroom are spotless. The ladies were making their hand made kobees, and everyone had hair nets, aprons, and gloves on. I was watching them the whole time, and there wasn't even a single cross-contamination moment. Trust me, I'm OCD. Next, the service is excellent. Wafa, the owner, is warm, gracious, friendly, and patiently explains the dishes to folks who are unfamiliar with it. She remembers her guests by name. Even the other ladies who work here are friendly and attentive. No need to ask for pita bread when your bowl runs out...they just know it, and they hand you more warm ones! Finally, the food. Oh my gawd, the food. The portions are ginormous, the ingredients are fresh, and the dishes are cooked only when you order them. There's probably a 5minute wait before your food is brought out, but it's totally worth it. And it's all reasonably priced! We had the shawarma wrap and plate (both beef), the Baba Ghanoush, and the spicy kobee. The space was quaint, and there are only a few parking spots in front, shared with the adjoining liquor store. The staff was so nice and friendly to answer all my questions. I was vegan at this point and wanted to make sure I could try the Veggie Kobee. It was so delicious and flavorful! I think they said it's made from bulgar. The inside I think has onion, mint, and lots of great spices.The kobee are a little heavy on the stomach though as they are fried. Each kobee patty was pretty decently sized, and dense. I also really enjoy their lentil soup and tabbouleh (both also vegan). Both are flavored really nicely and a good price as well. Rating: 90/100 pts Kobee Factory has nothing to do with the Japanese city of Kobe, nor the basketball player named after it. Instead, it refers to Kobee (also transliterated as kibbeh), the national dish of Syria. That's right, Kobee Factory is actually Syrian food that caters to the 60,000 and growing Syrian-Americans living in Southern California. And I for one am glad they're here, as I have no plans to visit the country in the foreseeable future. Owner and kitchen master Wafa Ghreir emigrated from Syria many decades ago, but she upholds her cultural roots by using the recipes of her great-grandmother to provide an authentic Syrian culinary experience. The interior is nothing more than a small space with 4 or so tables. (Several take-out orders were transacted while I was here, so I'm guessing this is the preferred method for many of their customers.) Meals are around $10, many even falling below. Food is cooked to order. As soon as we placed ours, Wafa went straight into the kitchen are started on them. This means you do end up waiting a bit, but the wait is more than worth it, as the ingredients are good and the food is fresh. Yes, I'm a fervent fan of this factory. I'd recommend trying both a Kobee Plate (the most authentically Syrian dish here), and the Chicken Shwarma Plate (my favorite out of what I've tried). Kobees are rounded patties made of bulgur wheat mixed with aromatic spices, pine nuts, and beef, which is then cooked with more fresh ground beef inside. They offer the kobees cooked in a variety of ways (baked, fried, etc), with the added option to make them spicy or not. Either way, they are crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, and taking a bite causes the delicious juices and aromas to gush out. These are served with a salad (cucumber-yogurt or green) hummus, and pickled vegetables. The hummus is smooth and tasty, and while not the best I've ever had, it's definitely worth 4 stars and compliments the crisp kobees wonderfully. The Shwarma Plate is more your typical middle eastern plate of marinated meat over rice...but man was this meaty juicy and tasty! For $8.99, this is a fantastic deal, and one that I'd likely repeat regularly if I lived closer. While I wouldn't drive across town for it, for me the authentic flavors and affordable prices still push them just up to the 5 star mark. read more

SHAWARMA BEEF w/ fries & hummus - the BF's dish. He enjoyed his wrap. Fries weren't anything special--reminded me of the ones from the grocery store's frozen section. Hummus was "simple" to him (hmm, not exactly sure what that means, haha). As for service... They were friendly and answered our questions w/o an attitude. Came to check on us once (which is fine). This little place was made homey by the aura of the women running it. They treat you like family. They make the kobee fresh, right in front of you (at least while I was there). They were happy to explain everything to me because I was so interested. Felt like here was the Syrian grandmother I would have loved to have! Tried the Kobee Barbecue plate, the Chicken Kabob plate and the Chicken Shawarma plate. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, including the hummus, pita and salad that came along with it. The service was continuously outstanding with lots of love behind the food. Prices were incredibly reasonable - $10 for more food than I could eat! This was my first experience with Syrian food. Not sure I'm a huge kobee fan nor that the food here far exceeds other delicious Middle Eastern restaurants all over LA to give it the exquisite overall rating of 5*.
