Last night my son and I wanted to give this Big Daddy's Shawarma a try for the 1st time and we were looking forward to it. We met each other in separate cars. While he was looking for parking, I was already inside checking out what their menu options were. I thought I was reading the prices wrong, but no, I was reading their prices right. After reading them few more times, my son walked in at that time. Right when we were able to place an order, we decided not to. Prices were so insanely outrageous! Super EXPENSIVE!! For one chicken or any kind of Shawarma plate was $30.00. Are you guys out of your minds?? Not to mention that in addition to their high prices, they were doing catering for Hanukkah celebration which was even more crazy. Charging $189 feast that serves 5 people. Right there and then we both walked out on empty stomachs. Ambiance was whatever. Place was clean, looked at other tables what people were eating, portions looked somewhat decent, and we can't comment on the food, because we didn't get a chance to taste it. Wanted to use the restroom, and since it was ONLY FOR their CUSTOMERS, the employee didn't let me use it. They had a lot of employees working at the counter, where you place your order and were somewhat helpful. Also had a FANCY looking desk with a woman sitting there so you can pay first, before getting in line to place your order. Had small outdoor patio seating with only 3 tables and few chairs. Overall a nice place, but if you bring down your prices, and be comparable with other Middle Eastern restaurants, then MAYBE me, we, us can give this Big Daddy a try!! Lots of parking shared with Vons and many other businesses. We left the restaurant feeling hungry, and disappointed. Went to Zanku Chicken on Riverside Dr. and had a better meal that was a lot more affordable than Big, Huge Daddy! Paid a lot LESS than $30.00 for food for the price of ONE!! For both me & my son. Went a couple weeks ago for the first time and absolutely loved it. I've always passed by it and finally decided to go in and I'm so happy I did. The owner is incredible and so friendly, as well as the kitchen staff. I got all that food for only 25 dollars, for the lunch special which ALSO included a free drink. Wow! Food is delicious, fresh, and of high quality. Portions are large and great for sharing. Pricing can seem high but once your food arrives one realizes that the prices are justified. Staff is very nice at this kosher restaurant that makes fresh food in a casual setting. The restaurant is roomy and has both indoor and outdoor setting with a newly remodeled interior that is warm and modern. They have wine and beer on tap. The place including the restrooms are very clean. Metered street parking as well as parking in the rear are options. Can't express how excited I was for this place. It should be a Studio City stalwart, pride of the Neighborhood. Instead, it was an utter disappointment from the food to most especially the Customer Service. First off we spent $220 for five people on five different plates and a few side dishes. I Call an order over the phone specifically asking if they had rice because one of the kids was begging for rice, they said "all the plates come with rice" and then another kid asked for extra Pita and they said "all of the plates come with Pita" - here's what ended up happening: *They gave us a combined one order of pita with four meals *Zero rice (!!!) *Forgot my additional half order of four falafel *Six falafel instead of eight in the regular order So I called and the guy said "I counted the falafel so I know you had eight" - I wish I took a picture as I am not a liar about these things. Anyways, they said "yeah, we were out of rice" why would they not tell me that when I ordered all of these meals specifically asking for rice? And to screw us on the Pita like that?!? They said "we will give you store credit"" all I said is I just wanna come in and pick it up and they were fighting with me. The food was very bland overall, especially for the price--$36 for a beef shawarma plate felt excessive for what you get. The hummus was overwhelmingly heavy on tahini, and then they added even more on top, which made it hard to enjoy. Nothing really stood out or felt worth the cost. Service didn't help either. The cashier didn't greet us, and during checkout didn't say the total or communicate at all--just held out her hand for the card, which felt a bit off-putting. Whoa this place gives out Big Daddy portions! Unless you're a big eater this could've been two meals on one plate. The Jerusalem mix was phenomenal. Its a mix of chicken meat and organ meat (liver and heart) and seasoned so well. The side salads are also tasty. Prices might seem expensive but you're really getting a lot of food! I think this is one of my favourite shawarma spots! The pita is soft and the French fries were thick and soft yet crunchy. The filling I think is the best part. The portion of meat they give is really generous and with all the other ingredients I add in, it will definitely fill you up. I definitely recommend adding the roasted garlic, eggplant and grilled onions plus the spicy relish/paste. It really makes the whole thing so flavourful and yummy! The chicken and beef shawarma combo is my favourite though their lamb shawarma is good too but can be a little fatty sometimes. On our last day in LA we traveled to studio city to test the "newest" Israeli kid on the Shawarma block... #bigdaddyshawarma , no kid friendly portions so minime went with a chicken Shawarma in a pita, we had a choice between veal, lamb and chicken, we asked for a mix yet we're told they "only mix veal and chicken, not lamb".... ok... so lamb it was.... it was ok... the Lafa bread they make in house was not for our liking... too chewy and thick, felt like it took away from the taste of the meat.... but it is rare to find lamb Shawarma in the US so it was good to have the option....the kebbeh (originally Iraqi dish of stuffed and fried burgul (buckwheat i think?) A very confusing restaurant with subpar food. Everything on the menu is well over $20, and while it makes sense since you get an entire plate of salad, fries, and pita, it was all undersalted and over seasoned (as in things were either far too sour, bitter, or overpowered in shwarma seasoning.) my kebab was strangely chewy and tasted of egg, making me wonder if it was impossible meat. I have this suspicion as the ticketing system seems confusing to the staff, they misread both of our orders and had to correct it, slowing down the service even more. The head chef came out and checked on us multiple times, but the restaurant seems to have no formal servers, as we had to flag down the cashiers 4 separate times for water. The utensils, cups, and condiments were placed behind the salad bar line, making them largely inaccessible. The head chef also recommended some type of spicy mango shwarma sauce to my elderly grandmother - of which I tried and was confusing to say the least. The guy that put toppings on was very generous with toppings so the thing was pretty big in the end. do i think the $28 price point was justified? not necessarily. When I asked for a bag for my 6 drinks (couldn't hold them all) she told me to go ask someone else when my food was ready. It was a simple request she could have easily accommodated. There was one girl making sandwiches and plates without gloves and I repeatedly watched her touch her hair, her clothes, then reach directly into the food to plate stuff (not using the tongs like everyone else). The staff were literally walking on top of me when I was ordering/waiting for my sandwiches. They could have said excuse me or walked around me but nope. The food was also bleh. The French fries were literally raw. I watched multiple people throw theirs away without eating and when I got mine I realized it's because they're inedible. read more

Weirdest restaurant experience in a long time. We visited Big Daddy Shawarma after seeing it on Instagram. The food looked amazing, and as a big fan of Mediterranean cuisine, I was hoping it might win my wife over (it's usually not her favorite). Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect. When we walked in, the place was buzzing--but not in a good way. We tried to sit at the only table that fit our family (me, my wife, and our 4-year-old daughter). Two staff members nearby were locked into their phones and didn't acknowledge us or clear the table. After standing around, we gave up and sat at the bar. No signs, no directions, no idea how the place works. I got in line like you would at a Chipotle or Cava, only to be redirected to a separate register. There were no menus to grab. When I asked for one, they had to turn the TV menu on with a remote. It was barebones--no pictures, vague descriptions. We ordered: Kids' chicken sandwich (somehow $25) Steak pita for me Chicken baguette sandwich for my wife One beer Total: $70+ The food? Underwhelming at best. The steak pita was doughy and undercooked, and the sauce leaked out before I even took a bite. It had three pieces of meat total. The fries were fresh-cut but soggy and lukewarm. The chicken sandwich looked nothing like the Instagram photos--definitely not worth the price. And then came the chaos. There were at least 15 to 20 staff members working--way more than necessary for a restaurant of this size. It was so overstaffed it felt like no one had a role. As my wife ordered a Blue Moon, the bartender didn't even know if the taps were working. The manager was sitting right next to the taps, doing nothing to help. My wife ended up ordering a glass of wine, and I went to grab a Modelo from the fridge myself. Then--the busboy came to pour my wife's wine, trying to offer a nice touch, and the manager swooped in and grabbed the bottle from him, publicly giving him a tutorial on how to pour wine. He poured the tiniest glass imaginable and walked off, like he was teaching a sommelier class during rush hour. To top it off, the manager decided to hold a staff meeting in the middle of the restaurant during a busy time, telling everyone: "I know you might all hate each other, but we've got a job to do. I want to go home too." The energy in the room was awkward. The staff looked checked out, embarrassed, and miserable. If you're the owner of Big Daddy Shawarma--and you care about your money--fire this manager immediately. He's killing your brand. There's no leadership, no sense of hospitality, and the entire operation feels lost. We eat out constantly, support local businesses, and rarely leave bad reviews--but this was one of the most disappointing and chaotic dining experiences we've had in years.
