Unfortunately due to these times, those 2 items are not on the menu but lots of stuff of the togo menu are very good like the mushroom E-fu noodle and dumplings in spicy sauce. The frozen XLB is really good reheated at home in a steamer~ (and the box comes with instructions on how to reheat) Koi palace Express and Koi palace currently share operations using the 3 menus below and it's a little confusing. You have to go upstairs to Koi palace and go around the side to the right till you find an open door. If you didn't order in advance, on the right side of that open door on a table they have the 2 menus (the Togo menu is front & back on one page) below. You mark what you want and walk into the suite to the right of that table and give your marked sheet to the cashier. She'll give you a receipt and when your order is approx. ready, you go back to the first door and hand the person your receipt. If you do order in advance, you can skip the whole which door to go to send visit the first door you see and pay and pickup your food there. The staff really doesn't care about me. I wonder if it's because I'm not Chinese? I stood at the receptionist desk and wasn't even acknowledged. I had to stare down a waitress and tell her that I wanted to order to go. She said "oh to-go..." and had to call someone else to help me. I'm guessing they speak minimal English. I ordered 2 orders of shu mai to-go and a lava something (I didn't know what it was. I just wanted to try it). And they said 25 minutes. I waited and it wasn't ready. I asked how much longer and the waitress walked away (she was either rude or couldn't speak English either). Someone else then told me a few more minutes because of the lava thing. A couple of friends and I wanted to get some dim sum, so we decided to head to Koi Palace Express to check it out for the first time. One thing to note when going for dim sum is that there will always be a long line accompanying it, as many other people had the same idea as you and are waiting for their number to be called, so they can get seated and start eating. Nonetheless, once our number was called and we were seated, we started ordering food left and right as if these dishes were relatively inexpensive. But boy were we wrong, as our eyes popped when the final bill came to our table after a long session of stuffing our stomachs. This would be one of those times where I wished I couldn't eat as much, but oh well. For the food, it was just alright, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It was just okay. I think the most interesting dishes were the 6 colored rainbow Xiao Long Baos and the Durian Puffs, which tasted just alright. Overall, I would come back here as there just isn't that many dim sum places around in Pleasanton, but for now, this should suffice to scratch my dim sum itch whenever it comes back up. read more

A scaled down version of Koi's Palace. Place is pretty decent but menu items is pretty limited but you do pay for the "Koi Palace" name. An order of their special chicken wings will set you back $10 (for 5 wings). It was tasty (although a bit over fried). They also have a limited variety of dim sum which I thought is the same quality as their upstairs counterpart. Their baked rice was good and had good flavor, but what I liked best is their curry pork chop. The curry is in a separate bowl and they have a deep fried pork chop over rice on a separate section of the plate. The deep fried pork chop is one of the best I had as it wasn't dry; in fact it was more moist than your typical pork chop. One thing I hate is they have high tea tables and chairs; looks nice but not much else. They were highly uncomfortable and weird. It's small and their condiments are in the center of the table recessed with a cover on top. So if you need to get the chili paste afterwards, you'll need to have someone help you hold the plate up while you dig in the table hole for it. read more

You know what I dislike? Disorganization at a restaurant. We arrive expecting to be led to our table when the waitress says we have to order first before being seated. Right behind us, a family of 3 just sits down where we would have been seated if the waitress had had told them the same thing. We're miffed but waitress apologized. Now that I've vented, we ordered pork cutlet with curry, hai nan chicken and curry beef stew with rice. Hai nan chicken is presented nicely and served with three dipping sauces. Curry beef is tender with good flavor. My son ordered the pork cutlet so he said it was good. I never knew there was a koi palace express, but I'm glad I got the chance to try it! We ordered the chili dumplings, shanghai dumplings, shredded duck porridge and the hainan chicken plate. Everything was really good! The chili dumplings were not too spicy and was very flavorful. The shanghai soup dumplings did not have a lot of soup in them but the meat was very juicy and flavorful. The shredded duck porridge came with a dish of peanuts and onions to put inside and mix in yourself. The hainan chicken plate had a great presentation! I was really satisfied and amazed with this. There wasn't a large amount of chicken but it did come with other items such as a large bowl of rice, some veggies, sauce for the chicken, and a cute teapot with ginseng chicken soup. The overall service was pretty good as well and the best part - no wait! Since we came here around 9:30pm. I would love to come back when I'm in the area again. The prices are pretty decent as well, not too overly priced. This is my ABSOLUTE favorite meal. The chicken is cut fresh. The tea pot on the side is actually chicken herbal soup. The rice is also delicious. It is not basic white rice. The whole set is worth every penny and is very generous in portion. The peanuts are also special and not your ordinary plain ones. They could give a little more vegetable but the meal is AMAZING. As for the location, it is downstairs on ground floor versus the upstairs Koi restaurant which is expensive. This express cafe is a cheap quick bite. If you look at their tables, the center comes up and is a secret hiding place for condiments. The tables are a bit cramped for 4 people to share. We came in 30 minutes before they closed after lunch and they took us in but reminded us that it's last call. It was fine because after a quick glance at the menu, we ordered the salted fish fried rice and the curry lunch dish. We chose the spicy dumplings as an appetizer and that came out last. The fried rice was good and was also acceptable as a leftover the following day. When we asked, they brought a box and a brown paper bag to carry it in. The curry dish came with egg fried rice. The dumplings weren't quite what I expected because the sauce was sweet with chilis but it turned out fine. They default to chopsticks but you can get a fork if you ask for one, which I did! They were good about keeping the tea refilled throughout our meal. This place is significantly less packed than Koi Palace and there was no wait when we came before noon. We were seated in the back because the tables in the front are very exposed to the cold when the door opens. The tables and chairs are like a set and they fit well together. However, the chairs aren't very comfortable or very deep. I liked half of the dishes we ordered, but the other half was too salty/peppery. The tofu, spicy wonton, rice noodles, and tonaktsu curry were my favorite dishes. Tonkatsu was quite juicy and not over fried. Spicy wonton was fresh and not too oily. Tofu skin was crispy and the inside was cooked perfectly. All too often, the inside of the rice noodles have zero flavor, but the rice noodles here were not too large and certainly more flavorful. The steak was too peppery and the noodles with eggplant was too salty. This place has some solid dishes, but the atmosphere just feels a bit too cramped. BETTER THAN KOI PALACE Several years ago I ate at Koi Palace, which is located on the second level of this plaza building at Dublin. I admit for the price I paid I wasn't impressed. The price I was paying seemed more for the décor than the actual food. So I wasn't sure what to expect from its "little sister" one story down. I like Koi Palace Express better than Koi Palace. The price you pay is decent for the items you order. None of the items are pretentious - they're straightforward food. The dry scallops fried rice isn't too salty. The Sampan-style chicken has a little spice to it. The Hong Kong-style crispy noodles soaks up the sauce and juices of the seafood. A sign of decent Chinese restaurant how well is its Peking duck. The duck was moist, but not greasy. The only fault I would say is I wish the skin was a little more crispy. 16% automatic service charge. I wasn't aware of it until the bill came. I read more about the charge on the menu and it is not supposed to be a tip but to pay for wages and benefits. I was about to pay tips on top of the service charge but the nice gentleman told me I don't have to. I would pay 15% tips anyway, it's just 1% more, but I absolutely hate it when I am forced to pay. Not sure why there are only seven reviews on Koi Palace Express. I swear I had written about this place years ago. My family and I were looking for a quick dinner in Dublin earlier this evening. We decided on Koi Palace Express since there is a Ranch 99 nearby and we wanted to pick up a few items there after dinner. We arrived to Koi Palace Express at around 7:00pm. The place wasn't too busy and we were seated at a table close to the cash register counter. The interior appeared clean and decorated simply. The round wooden tables and chairs were custom-made. One of the servers brought us water (per our request) and menus. Just like their big brother upstairs, they have dim sum on their menu, as well as other items such as Hong Kong style BBQ, congee, noodles, rice plates etc. After a few minutes of perusing the menu, we ordered the following to share: - Four Treasures Rice Plate - Curry Beef Stew Rice Plate - Beef Chow Fun - Seafood Pan Fried Noodles Four treasures rice plate was the first to arrive. A complimentary seaweed tofu soup also came with it. The four treasures (roasted pork, BBQ pork, soy sauce chicken, and a soy sauce hard-boiled egg cut in halves) were all delicious. Portion was a little small in my opinion. Beef stew rice plate was very good in my opinion. The chunks of beef were tender and the curry sauce was authentic Hong Kong style. I really liked the fact the dish was served with egg fried rice instead of white rice. It really gave the dish a little something extra. Beef chow fun was okay. Although the few slices of beef were tender and the veggies (yellow chives, sliced onion, and bean sprouts) were fresh, I failed to notice the "wok hay" (breath of the dragon, usually noticeable when high heat is used) in the dish. Seafood pan fried noodles was above average. The seafood used for the dish (bay scallops, shrimp, calamari, and basa filets) was fresh and most of the noodles were crispy. Only knock was the canned straw mushrooms used for the dish. They had a very tinny taste to them. Service was adequate. Our server was polite. With T/T the check came out to $58. A little pricey comparing to similar restaurants, but we were in and out of the place within an hour. The time saved is worth a little extra in my opinion. Xiao Long Bao was swerved with 4 pieces in foil instead of spoons. Tofu and seaweed soup was bland. I have been a customer for 10 years+. My favorite dish has been the Farm Raised Hainan Chicken with Soup. It was $9.99 10 years ago and now $18.88. While the taste is still good, the price has gone up 100% yet the portion size of the chicken has been reduced by half! Last Friday my dinner consisted of one small cut up drumstick and a winglet, 6 bite size pieces total unlike the picture presented on the menu. Added automatically to the bill is 16% service charge for employee benefits. Tips are additional. If this is the portion of the chicken going forward, I will have to find another restaurant for the Hainan chicken. Now, THAT's some real wontons!  The wrap is nice and thin and filled with crunchy shrimps cooked just right, the broth is nice too. Baked Pork Chop Rice's sauce is tasty and the porkchop is tender, what a perfect blend of flavor and texture.  This dish takes a bit longer, so be sure to have other other appetizers while you wait if you're hungry. The Salt & Pepper Calamari pieces were a bit smaller than I like, but the taste is still great. Beef & BBQ Pork Fried Rice was surprisingly good.  Minced beef and BBQ Pork, with a hint of ginger, quite flavorful. Husband and I came for a late lunch on Veteran's Day. We were greeted and seated right by the kitchen door--a bit awkward as I felt like the door was constantly about to slam into my back, but I was too hungry to make a big deal out of it. I was disappointed that it only came with two pieces of broccoli, when the picture on the menu shows an abundance. C'mon, Koi Palace, broccoli ain't that expensive. We polished this one off fairly quickly. The eggplant arrived next and was also delicious. Yet another dish that would have gone well with rice, but we were too hungry to care. The hainan chicken is probably the only thing I'd get there. The plate includes some yummy chicken, hearty chicken broth, A LOT of rice, veggies, peanuts & 2 sauce! I LOOOVE using the green onion sauce. The thing I hate the most here isn't related to the food or the service but THE TABLE AND CHAIRS!!! Repeat Customer. I've been to Koi Palace many times and their food and service have been consistently good. Although the waitstaff can seem unattentive, they are very friendly and engaging when you reach out to them. For appetizers I really enjoy the Fried tofu appetizer. The tofu is crispy and very fluffy on the inside. It is served with a sweet and tangy plum sauce. I also like to order the sweet and spicy dumplings as an appetizer. The dumplings are plump and pairs very well with the oily spicy chili sauce. For entrees, I usually always order the Chef's Meat special over rice. This dish includes several pieces of Chinese barbecue pork, fatty pork, and roast duck served over rice with greens and hard boiled egg. The dish is accompanied with a sweet duck sauce and Chinese mustard that pairs well with the fatty pork. I also really enjoy the mixed seafood porridge. The porridge is very fluffy and the seafood pieces are tender and seasoned well. The dish is accompanied with Chinese garnishes such as peanuts, pickled radishes, and green onions. In the past I have also enjoyed the eggplant clay pot and shrimp and egg gravy over chowfun. These dishes are very hearty and the portions are good. This is the best Hong-Kong-style/cantonese restaurant in the Dublin Pleasanton area. Love their Baked Pork Chop Rice and Hainan chicken rice w/ soup, along with appetizers and of course Iced Lemon Tea!! I'm so sad that they are closed during Shelter-in-Place. That's a terrible decision on the part of Koi. I tried the Koi take-out a few times since SIP, and the food quality is sub-par. Even the Baked Pork Chop Rice and BBQ items are made differently and they are not good. Koi management - if you are reading this, please open up Koi Express for take-out. On Labor Day, this was a 30 minute wait versus a 1.5-2 hour wait at Koi Palace upstairs. Note: This place does not have an extensive dim sum menu. It has more noodle/rice dishes. -Shiu mai: Very tender meat, flavorful, and plump. -Chicken feet: I'm typically not a chicken feet person, but WOW! This was so flavorful. -Rare mushroom soya chow mein: Had a great wok flavor with big portions. Great balance of mushrooms, onions, and spring onions. -Pan fried roll with spicy sauce (XO sauce): Lacking a bit of salt, but easily accommodated with soy sauce.
