I've been there a few times for the past few years and this would be my last time. The food is okay but the service... Firstly, we ordered 7 items and they got 2 of them wrong. The space is tiny, there was a table of seniors next to us and while we are still having the meals, they finished and start to leave. One of them was using an assistant cart for moving and my wife had to stand up and move her chair to make space, this is not enough though because high chair of my son still conflicts. We are already a bit pissed off because one need to hold the baby and another to move the high chair to make way for them. What's making things worse is the waiter start to clean up our table because we all stand up! Come on, we stand up to make room and the waiter didn't even ask! When check out, we want to reflect our dissatisfaction on tip amount and we soon realized that the 18% service fee is mandatory! You can only add extra tip on top of that to show your feedback! What kind of service should justify a 18% service fee? Definitely not like this one ... What really drive me mad is when we are finally out, my wife found my back is full of oyster sauce! This is one of the high end place for dim sum in town. They have a huge menu with variety of dim sum available. They also have a special menu printed on the tables for dine in customer. Food quality was above average and flavors are good. Most importantly, I didn't feel too dirty after the meal. Which t pls me they they use minimal to no msg. With prices higher than many other dim sum places in town, I expect the same level of service. However, that wasn't the case. We had a party of two, spent $160 for lunch. It was a Tuesday a little after 11am right after they opened for business. At the time, a few other tables were occupied, it wasn't very busy, but service was on the slow side for not being that busy. Our eyes weee bigger than our stomachs. We over ordered and they sad us at the small little round table for two. The table wasn't big enough for all the food. As the dim sum was served and there were empty dishes that needed to be picked up, the servers were not as attentive as expected. Especially when the lobster noodle came in a ginormous dish, I had to stack up the dim sum steamers to create room. I'm addition, nobody came to change our plates, we had to ask for bowls for our noodles. At that time, the server realized that we needed new plates also, and changed our plates. This is a review of the dim sum. First KP experience was early 2000s in the SF location. Glad to see they expanded. Staples are all good: Ha Gau, Pork dumpling puff, egg tarts, etc. The half order duck still suffers from the same problem. You'll get some really good pieces but also a mouthful of duck fat for a few. Turnip cake is solid and comes with a spicy scallop sauce. Shrimp roll also delicious and great portion. However I cannot recommend the fried dumpling with pork. It was pretty boring and had very little filling. The interior decor is nice. At the back of the restaurant is a very detailed rendition of the "Qing Ming Festival on the River" . You'll see a bustling market, a parade, temples, restaurants, etc. which commemorates the commercial "boom" of premodern China. I also enjoyed the two gate guardians tucked away in the painting. Near the restrooms are some poems carved on the drywall, one of them from the famous "Poet Sage" of the Tang period Tu Fu, but they are not finished yet. With over 1200 reviews - all I can add is if you want dim sum, go at lunch. If it's mentioned anywhere on the website or other info, I missed it. Dim sum is not available for dinner except a few small appetizer items. What I did have was great. The Shanghai dumplings stuck to the foul pan, and wouldn't come out without breaking and spilling the soup - but they were still very good. Sea bass collar and Chinese broccoli were both perfectly done. Since I was dining alone, that's all I ordered, but other dishes being delivered to other tables looked really fantastic. I really don't understand why this place is so crowded. I did not have a good time... We came in around 10:15 on a Sunday morning and were able to get seated immediately. We put in our order at 10:30 and then proceeded to wait 30 min for har gao and 45 min for xiao long bao. That's actually absurdly long for dim sum, especially the steamed staple items. Apparently there were more than 10 other tables waiting for the xiao long bao too, sounds like they aren't running very efficiently... I'm also shocked by the 18% service charge. That's crazy. They word it like its not alteady gratuity. Like just raise your prices if you're going to tack on a 18% charge? In terms of taste, I thought that most of the items were not that good. The steamed BBQ pork buns were kind of bland and soggy. The fried pork glutinous puff barely had any filling. The har gao and xiao long bao tasted okay but they kept falling apart. I'm used to having dim sum at New Port in Sunnyvale so I was excited to check this place out. First of all - it's in a huge complex that had misleading signs as to where the entrance was, but there was a map by the elevator so I was able to find it eventually. I liked that unlike New Port - you can make a reservation ahead of time. We did show up at 10 and by 10:30 it was really busy, so I'd recommend making a reservation. Food was decent - and I did like that they have an extensive menu of dim sum including some specialties. I liked the black pepper beef bun that was on the specials, and overall food was good. Once we got our order in, food came pretty quickly but I felt like there was a lot of effort in flagging down a server. Everyone who we interacted with was helpful but it was noisy and busy. Ended up being about $40 a person for what all we got - which seems a little pricey though I did get leftovers. Glad to try a new place. read more

The wait is always super long on the weekend so either come early or plan for the trip earlier. Standard dim sum place and considering how busy it is service could be a hit or miss. They have all the standards for dim sum - har gow, siu mai, cheung fun, and chicken feet. Lo bak go - the turnip cake used to come with this really delicious chili shrimp sauce (?) but the quality and quantity has decreased. I've grown up eating dim sum every Sunday and I have to say that the dim sum at Koi Palace is so yummy! My goto order: shu mai (so juicy and flavorful here), steamed chicken claws w/ black bean sauce, shrimp rice roll, shanghai dumplings....... and just a few other dishes on rotation. I have to admit, I never liked shu mai growing up but after eating Koi Palace's shu mai I can never go without it anymore. The food is on the pricier side but all so delicious. When I was away for college, I had incentive to come home in the fact that my parents would take me out for Koi Palace haha. The service is not good, there are a few servers for so many tables that it looks like they're always stretched thin. You have to flag the servers down to get their attention but that's usually the case for dim sum restaurants. They recommend substituting with the Deep Fried Crab Claws w/ Shrimp Paste, but the texture and flavor just are not the same. Also, this past visit I waited at least 1.5 hrs to get seated. Service was less than decent (like most other places you have to wave them down for 5+ minutes to ask to order), but this place is pretty expensive for dim sum. The interior was spacious and nice and honestly it felt quieter than other dim sum places (still loud though). We got a good amount of food, and I was told that the XLBs were really good here. This is still a solid dim sum spot in the South Bay. I enjoy the variety of northern and southern Chinese dishes here. My mom loves the different xialongbaos (soup dumplings) here so we came again for Christmas lunch. I made a reservation for 12:30pm a couple weeks out which was the earliest you can put in a reservation on the Yelp app. We arrived about 15 minutes ahead and was told there were still a few parties ahead of us. We were given a number and told to wait. Unfortunately we weren't seated until ~45 minutes later, which kind of defeats the point of making a reservation. Had a I known this I would have arrived earlier to secure a spot in line. A possible issue was that they forgot to put us in the queue until about halfway through our wait (I vaguely overhead two of the hostesses saying this). Overall we still enjoyed the food here! After we ordered via checking off items on the paper menu, our food arrived very fast. Some of our favorite items: xialongbaos (go for the colorful variety, I liked the squid ink one), pork and shrimp shiu mai, shrimp dumplings, scallop and truffle dumplings, XO sauce rice noodles, beef tripe, marinated chicken feet, jellyfish and seaweed salad, shrimp rice noodles, sticky rice in lotus leaves. Overall their dumplings and seafood items are very fresh! Some things that were just OK: steamed pork baos and lava buns. I think think both of these items were in the steamer too long and had water drip on them, making them a bit soggy. The filling of the lava buns was also way too runny and had too much oil inside. I'll definitely come back here to eat dim sum since they have such a nice variety of food. I'll just have to come earlier to get on the waitlist since having a reservation isn't super reliable. Also, they will already include an 18% gratuity charge on your receipt so need for an extra tip. It was 2:15 pm when we have all our ordered food on the table. At 2:18,one server asked us if there's anything else we want to order coz their kitchen will close soon and we said no. As we were eating we are so bothered by the commotion that the servers are doing cleaning up and moving tables and chairs. Ten minutes into our meal, they already gave us our check. We felt so rushed that we did not enjoy our food at all. Now for the taste of their food, it is sub par and very pricey. We ate at other places that serves better tasting food at a reasonable price. This place was my favorite restaurant on eating live fish. But things are changed recently. I came to it yesterday and found only 3 small fishes on the fish tank. What a disappointment! Even worse, the cooking is much worse than before. The steam whose fish tasted so salty and they put too much soy sauce or fish sauce on it. The waiter told me that they were half people left during pandemic time. That is kind of explaining why this place is not good as before both on food option (the current menu has much less choices) and service. They also charged 18% tips even for small tables.
