This is one of my favorite shabu spots in the 626! They have a huge selection of proteins to choose from and there's also a good variety of soup bases. The veggie bowl that comes with the meal is pretty standard. Soup Base My favorite soup base is the tonkotsu- the soup gets more flavorful as you cook all the meat and veggies so at the end of the meal you're left with this rich soup which is perfect for soaking the rice in. The sukiyaki base is also good and it comes with a raw egg dipping sauce. The soup base has a sweet soy flavor. Meat I like to get the beef belly because it's more fatty and absorbs the flavor of the soup. They also offer a lot of other different cuts of high quality beef. If you're looking for a shabu spot with a large menu and quality cuts of beef, definitely give this place a try. This restaurant does cost more than other places like jazz cat (also one of my all time favorite) but I think it's worth it if you're looking for quality and variety. read more

I went here on a Friday night and the wait was only about 10 mins or so. I got the tomato soup with the pork and it was delicious! It came with a couple pieces of fish and a shrimp along with some mushrooms and the soup base. I liked how they have the veggies all separated out into containers. They also gave you two types of noodles; ramen and clear noodles. I also got the spicy tuna roll and it was delicious! I like how they didn't skimp out on the amount of fish they give in the roll! Parking was very easy as it's in a very big plaza. Definitely would recommend coming here if you're craving some hot pot! read more

I came to Kokumi on a Sunday for lunch right when they opened at 11:30am because the restaurant is definitely on the smaller end. If you're trying to beat the lunch rush make sure to come early! For soups - my favorite soup base is the Tonkotsu for $2. I've tried both the miso and beef broths and both were decent as well. I'd just HIGHLY recommend avoiding the OG broth because it literally is just hot water. It's still slightly weird to me that patrons have to pay anywhere from $2-$4 for soup with any actual flavor... which is really my only con for this place. I usually order the Wagyu Toro which is $16 for lunch and $19 for dinner. The meat comes with a set veggie plate including kale, cabbage, bok choy, broccoli, carrots, tofu, corn, and ramen noodles - everything is fresh and the ingredients are served aesthetically. All of the veggies and rice are AYCE here so don't be shy if you're still hungry! For sauces - I love both their sesame sauce and ponzu. I always find it really fun to grind up my own sesame seeds before they pour the sesame sauce in. Make sure to ask for their green onion, garlic tray and their fire drops if you want that extra kick! Parking is plentiful and service here has never been less than amazing. They come by often to offer more broth and to ask if you need anything and are always polite and accommodating. read more

My favorite shabu place ever! It's been my favorite since it was Mokkoji! I always decide on the pick 2 with lamb and toro and the meats do not disappoint. The salmon for the shabu is sashimi grade level so you can eat it for shabu or sashimi, so fresh! Normal soup base is OG which is basically konbu with some mushrooms but you can opt for other soup options for an additional charge. I love that they give you refills on the vegetables and rice so you won't get hungry after. I always leave so full. I used to come here pretty often with my sister because we both worked from home but now I'm working full time in Burbank. Came here recently for lunch to see that its been remodeled. It wasn't as crowded as it used to be but it could have just been the time and day. The service was great - friendly and attentive staff - maybe better than Mokkoji. Menu was similar but they added seafood shabu shabu options, which is cool. We had the OG soup with the wagyu beef toro. Everything was delicious, my sister thought the food was actually better than Mokkoji. Prices were similar and they also let you get refills on veggies like before. When I stated to sample the food, it had a familiar vibe. Turns out that it use to be Mokoji. They later on change their name and went its own way due to partnership separation. I knew there was a familiar vibe :P My friend and I decided to stop in for dinner here since it was a cold night. Hot soup usually is a win when the temperature drops. Upon sitting, you are given a small bowl with a wooden tool to grind your own sesame seeds. How fine you want you seed to be is up to you. I didn't pay attention and grinned it to a paste almost. Whoops.. lol I would leave it after a few past to give more texture when they pour the goma sauce. I like to add extra chili oil drops for a little heat. Some do 8 or 9 which is nuts. I can barely handle 2 drops. We both ordered beef as a choice of protein. It was marinated in yuzu sauce to give it some flavor. Veggies and rice is unlimited which is a big plus for me. Love veggies!! We both got tonkatsu broth which is a bit heavier and more flavorful. Again, cold nights calls for the good stuff. Overall, it was such a fun and amazing dinner. Kokumi is a pretty yummy hot pot joint! The fire crab is a great soup base if you like the spicy seafood flavors. We also tried the Tomato based soup, which also had some seafood, such as mussel and salmon. The tomato was a mildy hearty and beefy soup, really yummy in my opinion. The order comes with a choice of your meat, which I would definitely recommend the wagyu toro. You also get a bowl of veggies, noodles, japanese pumpkin that is wrapped in plastic for your safety. I do feel that it's a bit on the pricy side, but the quality is still there! Their seating arrangmenets are currently all outside seating in the tent located in the parking lot space in front of their restaurant. Restrooms still available for you to use all the way in the back of the restaurant. We went around 7pm on a Wednesday night. Pretty warm and dim lighting. There was plenty of seating available, and the tent slowly began to fill up that night. Customer service very kind and friendly and helpful. This place used to be good, but no longer. Indeed, it is a terrible place now. I have been a regular for years (before the name change and ownership transfer, which was way before the pandemic), it is unimaginable that I'd be giving it a 1-star rating. As the other recent 1-star ratings mentioned, service of this place is laughable. At best laughable. This new group of servers are simply clueless. You'd be seated and left unacknowledged for 20, 30 or even 40 minutes. There is no urgency to serve their customers. Orders would get mixed up if you are lucky enough to get your order taken. Requests (condiments, stove running out of gas...) would either be ignored or forgotten. And today, the last straw was finally broken. Once again, we were left there with zero acknowledgement for a long time. Hungry and frustrated. And the worst thing was they didn't even care seeing us walked out of the tent. Or did they even know we were there? Anyways. Price of food ain't cheap at this place. However, the quality is not sustained. Portion also shrunk. It's completely since changed since the pandemic. It's quiet and cozy and not the hustle and bustle that it used to be. I really like it though as the menu hasn't really changed the the Shabu is still great. For Shabu, its one of the few places that serves fish, which is a welcome addition to the mostly red meat places that I've seen. It's also not AYCE so you get what you pay for and the quality is excellent. The AC, which is critical at any Shabu establishment in LA was well cooled. I came here for dinner and waited almost two hours until we were finally seated. Once we were seated, the first thing I noticed was that the tables are quite tall. The food came out really quick. The 'Pick 2 combo' is definitely worth the $19.99 price. You get to choose two meats between angus toro, steak cut, lamb, pork, and chicken. The meat quality is pretty good. My personal favorite is the toro. I got to try the original, sukiyaki, and fire crab soup bases. The original has no flavor and tastes just like water; I do not recommend it. The sukiyaki and fire crab soups are great. The fire crab soup actually came with a crab leg in it and its spice is not too strong. For your hot pot, you will get a bowl that consists of cabbage, spinach, kale, broccoli, carrot, pumpkin, purple yam, enoki mushroom, tofu, ramen, and udon. It's only a little bit of each, but you can ask for more cabbage or kale for no extra charge. You also get a bowl of rice and a peanut sauce. read more

My wife and I were looking to branch out from our normal shabu shabu places, and this looked promising. They offered a wide variety of meat choices (some quite premium) and a handful of non-soup options (more my MO). For starters - the restaurant is still in a tent in a parking lot, which seems to be a little past it's time (we spent many hours in those in 2020/2021 but haven't been in one for over a year. Parking was easy enough, and the staff was nice but everything was honestly overpriced for it was. The two rolls I got were fine, but it feels like more time went into the ornamentation than the actual rolls themselves. My wife's broth only became rich and flavorful towards the end of the meal, and so while nothing was bad it certainly isn't worth the premium price tag. It is reminiscent of a shabu shabu version of the Cheesecake Factory, many options but feels a little spread too thin. Will not be back. read more

A girl gotta have her noodles! Yum Yum! You can also request refill on veggies which will only include: bok choy, napa cabbage, kale, spinach. Interesting.. this place went downhill in my opinion, or maybe I just got a bad batch? The last time I ate here was when this place was Mokoji, menus are still the same. Sukiyaki broth is my favorite, 10/10 sweet and tasty. Went for the steak serving of meat (it was A LOT) and couldn't finish it, I only ate half (can definitely share) it was also super tough to chew even by cooking it medium. The veggies were not fresh and they were dirty. Veggies came with ramen noodles and vermicelli. Had recently eaten Mokoji in Riverside and it was delicious. But this time here just didn't hit the spot. The chicken wings were FIRE. Super crunchy and flavorful. Service was good, everything is outdoors with heaters. I only saw outdoor dining when we met up here for dinner with friends during covid which is great cause it feels safer. The outdoor dining area is basically part of the parking lot so there were parking blocks in the way. They had a few outdoor heaters but I didn't feel them from where I was sitting. For a party of six they advised us that it would be too cramped tablewise if everyone had a hotpot, so two of us would have to share one that had a divider. We thought they just didn't want to give us another portable stove because maybe they were running out, but they were right, it was cramped. They served us hot water that we requested because it was chilly outside but the water had the tap water taste. For the price, I wasn't that impressed with the meal. Most of us did the pick 2 and some of us ordered pricier meats. The pricier meats didn't taste that special for the price so I could go with the pick 2. The veggies were basic shabu shabu veggies but it was a decent amount. Their soup was more special compared to other places but you also have to pay extra for it. Unfortunately to me, I could taste the tap water in the soup. I got the tomato seafood soup (+$4) and there was a piece of salmon and a mussel. I thought the soup would taste more tomato-ey but it didn't. Be careful not to let your salmon overcook because it will just disintegrate in the soup when you try taking it out. read more

Not worth it! We got the Rosu & Prime Shabu set and it took about 45 minutes for everything to come out. My experience here was bad from beginning to end. Super pricey for such plain broths. Menu was so confusing. They served me sushi with no soy sauce and when asked for soy sauce I got an eye roll along with an ignored request. The meat was good but the sashimi was so poorly cut that I couldn't consume it due to it being so stringy. Overall it was such a bad service! I will not return to this establishment. read more

Shabu shabu in the freezing cold is just perfect! They turned a part of their parking lot into a huge outdoor dining area enclosed in a tent. The tent is open for airflow of course. We were here on a Thursday night and waited about 20min for a table. They prepare the meat and veggies in their restaurant, wrap them in Saran Wrap individually then bring them out to us. That makes me feel a lot better so that the food is not contaminated during the transport to the parking lot. They have hand sanitizer at every table. That bottle is probably not cleaned after every party though since there was sauce on the one at our table. They still have their amazing sauces, minced garlic, radish, spring onions available. Finally! They have dine out and they can serve more than what they would normally indoors! On top of all of that, it was very spacious and clean. Luckily we came right when they open, so we didn't have to worry too much about crowding. All the workers wore masks and gloves. When the food came out, they put plastic food wrap over it. Sauce was served by them (no more crushing your own peanuts)! Because of COVID-19, asking for extra veggie is $3, which is understandable! They barely opened on Monday, Sept. 28 for dine out. Overall, the food was still amazing! I got the Miso Soup with Kokumi regular size (wagyu toro) and a salmon hand roll. It came out to be about $34. So, happy that they are open again!! read more

I would leave 0 stars if I could! I don't even know where to start... The location is a tent in the middle of a parking lot (like covid times) with bad club music playing really loud. When it rains, water leaks in and it feels like the whole thing is going to collapse. They have gas burners to heat up the place, but those are not supposed to be used in an enclosed space due to fire hazards and cancer concerns... Beyond the safety, the whole setup is very uncomfortable and inappropriate for this kind of meal. The food is disgusting, the veggies are totally frozen and noodles are plain instant noodles. For the soup, the pot comes with some powder and they pour water to it right in front of you. The whole thing tastes like $1 instant ramen. And the service is not good either. They were not rude, but they made a whole mess with our check and it took us a while until they fixed it. They made us pay cash (it's not a cash only place!), and when we said we didn't have enough cash they came with a card reader. Suddenly they took cards again! And then they had a hard time charging us the correct amount. And price-wise, it is more expensive than other Shabu Shabu restaurants in the area... I cannot understand how this place is still in business. If you're considering dinning here, literally any other place would be better. read more

For me, customer service is a big factor for my dining experience and they seemed to be all over the place, and not too respectful or knowledgeable about the menu. I just had a wonderful shabu shabu outdoor dinner at KOKUMI in Arcadia. The patio they set up was very well spaced out and comfortable. They check your temperature at the door and provide hand sanitizer at each table. They are not serving alcohol at this time but they do allow you to bring your own alcohol with no charge. We walked over to the Vons in the plaza and got some beers. Prices are still very reasonable and the broths are so flavorful. My fav is the sukiyaki mixed with the kim chi one! I ordered the pick 2 for $21.99 + $5 to upgrade to a large portion of Wagyu Toro and the steak cut (lean). Both were delicious. We arrived when they opened around 5:30 and there were plenty of open tables. It was full with a line by 7:30 when we left. Kokumi is a MUST try! It was my first time stopping by since Kokumi took over Mokkoji. It is pretty much the same set up and concept, except instead of lunch going up until 2:30pm and the restaurant closing at that time, Kokumi's lunch hours are from 11:30am-5pm. This was a plus for me since there were many times I was unable to make it before 2:30pm in the past for lunch. When I stopped by for a late lunch they were still open. The place was nearly empty at that time and the server was friendly. I ordered the Grass Fed Lamb with the OG soup base, which is a plain soup base with mushroom in it. I mixed in chili powder, garlic and green onions to give my broth a bit of a kick. There are also other alternative broths for an extra charge. Aside from the meat, my order also came with a bowl of vegetables, a signature stamped tofu, 1/2 a block of instant noodles, a small strand of potato starch noodles, and a bowl of rice. The rice and vegetables are refillable, so if you are feeling extra hungry you won't have to worry about leaving hungry. There is also an option for your server to make porridge with the soup you have left in your pot at the end for a small fee if you are still feeling hungry at the end. Although Kokumi is more on the pricey end, the Grass Fed Lamb was really good. No gamey taste or fat chunks everywhere. You can really taste the quality. I love the in house ponzu sauce they give you for the meats. I dip my meats and veggies in it to enhance the flavors. There is also a goma sauce, which is also good, but I have not tried it and do not use that one. This is definitely one of my favorite places for shabu. I left feeling very full and happy with how good the food and service was. If you love shabu as much as I do and care about quality more than quantity, give this place a try! Been a long time customer and have been going here since they were first switched from Mokkoji to Kokomi so we are very familiar with them and how their restaurant operates. We decided since we would be in area that we wanted to eat at Kokumi as the seating is outdoors and it was a night nice for Hot Pot. We took our seat and tried to order our regular, Fire Crab with Double Toro (12pcs) and Miso with Double Toro as well. We were told by the server that they are unable to do double order because that's what the owner said. We asked to speak with the manager on site and he said that they were never allowed to do double toro and he know all the servers and knows they would never allow that. He also didn't have the owners number, he just drops by. As a manager, how would you not know how to contact the owner if there was an emergency? Seeing my positive review from two years ago, us never being able to order double toro on the menu is a lie and not sure why we'd have any reason in doing so. And two, why would such a rule apply with no explanation / reason if it's on the menu. We used to love coming here and we're loyal customers, even with the owner / restaurant change but never again. Very disappointing and hope you can get that figured out. read more

We happened to came across this hot pot spot while looking for hot pot in the cold weather. This place is located in the same plaza as vons and au79. They set up a dining tent in the parking lot so don't expect too much (outdoor dining and service). Just make sure to dress warm. Since it's our first time, we weren't sure how to order. The menu have different sections and basically a list of options for shabu. Server wasn't much of a help when we asked. Felt like he kind of brushed us off and left. However he did came back after we figured how it worked and ordered. In general, service was slow. We both ordered the hot pot- one og and one tonkotsu broth and kokumi as the meat set. FYI, any other soups beside og, it will cost additional. We also ordered konugget and the Bruce Lee drink. It's basically blended mango and matcha. The drink came first and it was okay. Honestly it was sour for my palate and I couldn't taste much of mango or matcha. Hot pot on the other hand was on point. I was glad that we ordered the kokumi. Great pace for hot pot! I see hardly any differences from mokkoji other than the slight menu change. I love getting salmon with the fire crab soup. If you haven't tried fish in hot pot it's soooo good. Other than that their toro and steak cut are so tender and tasty. My favorite part is dipping and dunking in their amazing goma sauce. Still soooo tasty and the best sesame sauce I have ever tried from all the hot pots I've been!! Their crispy tofu is also pretty tasty. They are huge tofus topped with kimchi and sauce. I also dipped the tofu in both the ponzu and sesame and it was extra tasty!! Their kokumi roll is really good and a little bit soicy from the spicy tuna.
