    Kolache Day
    Alyssa Marie H.

I missed coming here on the regular for breakfast when I worked in this area. There used to be a Randall's Grocery store that had receipts for BOGO kolaches. But it's now a Spec's. Their savory kolaches are my favorite. I was reminded by their excellence in an Instagram app for National Kolache Day coming up on March 1st. But I got so excited I didn't want to wait. Sausage and gravy is what I went with for today. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I recommend their outdoor seating as it's much nicer than the inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also they've adopted a rewards app, which I'm excited to try!

One of my favorite if not MY favorite quick stop for a breakfast bite in downtownish Austin. They have sooo many options, from regular normal cheese and sausage kolaches to delicious ones with egg and also sweet tarts/treats and such. They always warm them up for you as well and they taste amazing! And best part is they're only like $2/$3 each, which is so great. Ladies who work there are super sweet as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's really easy to go in and grab a bite to go or sit at the picnic tables outside and ea5z[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I have come to the realization that this is probably one of the most underrated breakfast/brunch spots. It's tasty, affordable, filling, and very vegetarian friendly! I came here with my vegetarian friend who had suggested it, and our other friend was surprised to hear that she wanted to get kolaches because he thought they all had meat. She put me on the spinach kolache, which was delicious. It is just spinach with some cheese. I also got two breakfast kolaches: potato, egg & cheese and sausage, egg & cheese. They have a large selection of savoury and fruit kolaches. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio looked nice, but the chairs had an extensive amount of bird poop on them, so we sat inside instead.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restroom was clean, much to my surprise.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking lot only has a few spots, and it was full when we got there. I was very wary of parking in any of the surrounding lots because I felt like I could be booted or towed at any moment, so I parked in the free retail garage by Snooze, and we walked two blocks over.

It's dangerous how close Kolache factory is to me, my wallet may hate it but my stomach loves this place!!! As always this place is a wonderful way to start the morning. The kolaches are always fresh and full of flavor! I always like trying something new and at this point I've had it all. Come here for the taste and you'll never be disappointed. As always, a total 5/5 stars for all the work put into these kolaches

It's a pretty decent kolache place. On par with long star kolaches in my opinion. The only gripe I have is the lack of coffee selection. There was only sugar and a few half and half left. Given, I only stopped in the kill time for my vehicle inspection so I wasn't expecting much. The egg kolaches are quite delicious and that's all that it matters. Definitely a solid place to grab breakfast kolaches to go.

    So good!

I always try to stay away from chains, BUT let me tell you that Kolache Factory does not disappoint. I will say that this location does look a little beat up, the interior (and exterior) needs a bit of some remodeling or new look. But I'm sure that doesn't have any influence on the taste on the kolaches. I do love the variety of kolaches you can order, from sausage to brisket to sweet flavors, it's just yummy to bite into warm bread with filling. This is one of those places where you just order a couple dozen kolaches and leave. There is some seating, but again, it's like stopping into a gas station. Wil definitely come back, but maybe moreso to a different location. But hey! The place may not look Soo appealing, but the kolaches are good!

Kolaches taste great. Honestly my go to for a quick breakfast. I normally come around 1:30 when the kolaches are half off because of the limited selection and I'm always leaving satisfied with my order. Employees are really nice and inside is always clean.

You can tell a lot about a kolache place by there ranchero. It had flavor, lots of filling, and the bread is so soft and pillowy. Delicious. And the salsa went great with it!

I haven't tried the kolaches yet, but I did get the cinnamon twist, apple Danish, and cream cheese pastry--and they were terrific! Not only did they look fantastic, but they tasted just as good. I'll be coming back to explore more of their menu. I highly recommend this spot to anyone with a sweet tooth!

I hate to leave a negative review so will try to keep this short. The staff was kind and quick to help me. There are a few tables inside to eat and a bathroom right off the main room, which is not my favorite thing to see or smell that close to the food. They do have a number of brewed coffees to choose from, which is a perk you don't see in many places that serve coffee. I ordered the pumpkin cream cheese muffin instead of a kolache. I've had these types of muffins before so I know what they're like. This muffin looked half raw and tasted terrible. I had a few bites and threw it out.

My go-to is the Haraz Latte. Iced. While this could never be my every day coffee, it is something I really enjoy and treat myself to when I'm able to go to a Haraz. As someone who doesn't proclaim to like cheesecake, their Biscoff cheesecake is the exception. Maybe it's a blessing that one isn't close by and I can only indulge every now and then. If you want a break from your regular coffee, give Haraz a shot. Especially when the summer heat kicks in - the iced coffee + cardamom is pretty great. Also, they seem to have a high standard for hiring. The staff is always great. Please tip generously ;)

While exploring the many museums across the University of Texas campus, a quick caffeine break was needed for my girlfriend and we were overwhelmed by the number of options on The Drag. It makes sense that there are plenty of places to choose from because of the large number of UT students. Everyone needs a little coffee in their lives. One of the highest reviewed ones with a large pool of ratings was Lucky Lab Coffee and after checking a few quick reviews, we decided to give it a chance. Lucky Lab has five locations in Austin (four on campus) and one location in Dripping Springs. The one we were at off The Drag was their flagship. This location serves a little bit of everything from sandwiches to pastries, salad to quiche, and of course, coffee. As we walked inside the flagship, it is easy to notice how tight the space is. There is very little seating inside at their bar, but they make up for it with plenty of shaded outdoor space that is perfect for a nice day. Scanning their menu, we landed on some drinks from their winter menu. I was intrigued by their Pomegranate Rosemary Latte while my girlfriend tried their Ginger Spice Mocha. We got them both iced. First, it is interesting to see the fusion of pomegranate and rosemary in a latte. I was intrigued by those flavors. Their drink sizes are 12 oz, 16 oz, and 20 oz, each adding an additional 50 cents to each upgrade. All milk alternatives cost 1 dollar. It was only a short wait to get our coffees and the cup with the little lab on it was cute. I think specialty drinks have an opportunity to be amazing and one of a kind or the worst drink imaginable. This pomegranate rosemary latte did not fall into either category exactly, but leaned more toward the latter. I love pomegranates and I always appreciate how earthy rosemary can be in a coffee. One of my favorite lattes I have ever had has rosemary in it. This was just not working for me. I shamefully did not finish my coffee. As for my girlfriend, she did not like her ginger spice mocha. I could not imagine gingerbread syrup not working in a mocha, but after trying it myself it was not for me either. It seems like a perfect match, but here the gingerbread is competing with the chocolate and instead of complementing each other they clash. She told me that the flavors were "un-mocha like". She drank less than half of her coffee before tossing it as well. Neither of us wanted to dislike Lucky Lab. They seem well established and I felt like they were trustworthy based on reviews, but I wonder what these previous reviewers were tweaking on or what magical concoction of coffee granted from heaven above they were sipping on because we were distraught by how disappointing these drinks were. I would like to give Lucky Lab Coffee Co the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe the specialty drinks were not up to par with their traditional beverages. However, the almost 30 different syrup options on their wall make me feel they lack a little focus and try too hard to stand out. They lose what makes a coffee good, which is coffee. I want to say I will give them a second shot in the future to see if it was just an off day or a bad beverage pick. Too many shots turns a Lucky Lab into Old Yeller. The lab needs to be put on a leash before I think about returning. RIYL: options

I was a little confused when I drove up because I didn't realize that it's inside the Retreat Yoga Studio. There is a neon sign on the window as well as an A-Frame Sign near the entrance to let you know you're in the right place. Parking is plentiful in the shopping center. Because it's in a Yoga Studio, there isn't much seating (though they did have tables set up outside). The vibe was relaxing and calm. I don't know what scent they had in there, but it smelled nice. This wouldn't be a place to study or work as the seating is limited and I didn't see many outlets. There was a small area with bar stools if you need a tabletop, but most of the seating was couches and lounge chairs. It's more of a place to relax or catch up with a friend. I love when coffee shops have signature drinks. I ordered the Cajeta Crème Brûlée Cappuccino. It was so good, but it came in a small cup. The smoky sea salt was delicious! I don't typically care for sea salt in beverages, but it complimented the flavors so well! I asked the barista to sub oat milk which they were able to do but he informed me that some of the ingredients had dairy (which was fine). I appreciated the disclosure. I was able to drink it without any issues. Because my drink was so small, I decided to order a second one. I went with the Ginger Snap Latte (with oat milk) and it was tasty! I didn't like it as much as the Cajeta Crème Brûlée, but it was really good. I was happy that it was served in a larger cup. The space had plants as well as merch like clothing, scented candles, soaps, and jewelry (which was beautiful). The bathrooms were very clean and had feminine hygiene products as well as a basket with bobby pins and hair ties. I love the attention to detail! We were there close to closing time (3 pm). I appreciated that one of the employees let us know that they would be closing without forcing us to get up and leave. It was on par with the gentle and calming vibe of the space.

Maybe my expectations were too high (as usual) because it's inside a hotel, but I was hoping for the kind of warm hospitality hotels are known for, but instead, the service felt a bit cold. It didn't exactly make me want to spend more money there. While sitting on the patio, I spotted the food truck outside and thought, "PERFECT. A food truck HAS to be cheaper. Take that Simona's!" I walked up to the window... only to find out it wasn't actually a separate food truck. It was just the pickup window. To order? I had to go back inside to Simona's and place my order with the delightful staff... I ended up ordering two Blue Migas tacos, and honestly, they were just... good, but nothing memorable. They tasted like your average breakfast tacos that you can find all over Austin for less. Despite loving how relaxing the outdoor patio is with its lucious greenery surrounding you and the beautiful French chairs and cafe tables, it's located right next to the hotel pool.
