I am a big fan of kolaches (traditional in my part of Europe), so my expectations were quite high. While their food is not traditional Eastern European, it is quite good. Their kolaches are generally well prepared and tasty, and the price is fairly low. You will get well fed for less than $5. The atmosphere is relaxed and the people are friendly and accommodating (when getting a big box they offered to label all of them). Not all of the kolaches are too my liking, however. The egg and bacon and the potato, egg and cheese taste a bit bland (get tacos with that kind of mix in Austin). The ranchero, BBQ and various sausage kolaches are excellent! And a big box makes for a popular office/event snack! If their (small) lot is full, you can try parking on Medical or 37th. But since many people get their food to go there should only be a short wait for parking. read more

Frustrating visit. Ordered kolaches and the cashier asked if I wanted them warm, I said yes and she heated them. Got to my our seats and a Kolache was missing from our order so I went to the same cashier and let her know. She rung me up for the missing Kolache. I got to my seat and it was cold. I went up to the front again and ask if I could have it heated like the others. She gave me attitude saying she already did it. The kolaches here are good - what you'd expect at one of these franchises, and the employees are nice. I had to give this location 3 stars, though, because of how inconsistent they are at opening on time. There have been two occasions in my last four trips here where they were still not open 15-30 minutes after they were supposed to be (it could have been longer but that is when I came by). I've been to this location twice. On my first visit the staff was super helpful and suggested flavors for me. I bought my tasty kolaches, sat down and read my magazine in complete contentment. I was hoping to do the same thing again for my second visit, but unfortunately the employee I encountered wasn't as welcoming. But hey, it was a little after 7am. I understand and definitely wouldn't hold it to anyone to be chipper that early. The most unpleasant part was that there was country music blasting at a level that even made it difficult to have a conversation. Kolache's are great, but that about the only thing that's great at this location. EVERY time I have ever gone in here the cleanliness is less than stellar. I've gotten a fountain drink before with dirty ice, their soda spouts are not soaked obviously and everywhere you look its just....dirty. Today I bought coffee for the first time, the coffee bar was filthy and pretty much EVERYTHING was out. The flavor syrups, creamers, sugars, and pretty much all the coffee. Even the couple of coffee containers that had coffee in them...well the coffee was cold. Another customer beside me asked the employees to make fresh coffee and they all just looked at each other clueless.Finally one of the guys stumbled over there to only take his sweet time making fresh coffee. I just left. I don't understand how this place passes health code regulations. It might be close and convenient to my work but I will never go in here again. YUCK!!! read more

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars for two reasons: 1) The buy 3 get 3 free coupons on the back of the HEB receipts are way too convenient and a great value - 6 kolaches for under $5. They keep me coming back despite their far less than superior kolaches. 2) The staff is always extremely friendly and patient. However, the kolaches themselves are just so so. They are never quite as fluffy as you might expect and hope for, and it always just seems like they are lacking in something. My measuring stick is the Czech Stop in West, but these kolaches aren't bad. I recommend the sausage and egg, it is their most solid one in my opinion. read more

This was my first time in Austin and I was told to try Kolaches. The hotel I was staying at recommended this place to try them. The building is outdated, not in a way where it's historical, but the building, decor, and seating just seemed dirty. The lady ringing me out was wonderful though! I tried the strawberry filled Kolache and it wasn't anything special to be completely honest. It tasted like a mediocre pasty. I really like kolache factory! I love that they have a variety of kolaches that you can choose from. My personal favorite is the barbecue beef kolache it is always great inside. This location honestly smells a little bit fishy to me when I walk in the building. I'm not sure why it does this, but that's just what I smell every time I walk in. I love this place as a quick breakfast grab, and have felt it was a safe place in these COVID times to have a little normalcy back since employees wear PPE and there are signs all over the building that customers are required to wear a mask. But when I was here today around 7:45 am, 2 of the 4 customers in the store were not wearing masks and employees did nothing to enforce company policy. hire punctual employees. this place is never open on time. i pulled up at 6 and there were already cars in the parking lot waiting for them to open. they opened the doors at 5 after, the girl running the register showed up 10 minutes late, on her phone, puts her phone down, heads toward the register. gets a text, turns around to answer the text. with a line in the lobby. i'm more disappointed with myself for returning to this place, than the service. this is the second time i've gone there and left without buying anything. they should change their hours to accommodate the slacker workers there. *Bang!* *Boom!* *Crash!* That's the sound of me getting out of bed in the morning. Which is immediately followed by a glossy eyed search for coffee and food. Sometimes this search comes to an end in my kitchen, other times, it does not. Several days ago, I found my eyes open at my friend's apartment in Austin, TX... some may call it "The Live Music Capitol of The World," I call it, "The Promised Land." I stumbled out of said apartment, jumped into a car (I hope that the owner didn't mind), and headed for an establishment which I had heard about, The Kolache Factory. The recommendation that I got for this place was simple. "Kolache Factory, omg, it's delicious." Fine, I'm sold. I walked in the front door and found a peculiarly fast food meets bakery type setup. After a half second of pondering, I realized that that is exactly what this is. Anyhow, I eyeballed the selection and come to realize that my desires were located in the porky goodness of a sausage, egg, and cheese kolache... wait. What is that just to the left, a bacon, egg, and cheese kolache!?!? I shall consume both. The fine gentleman behind the formica counter plucked them from the racks and asked me if I desired for the dough balls of tasty goodness to be heated. I nodded my head, as I was unable to form a word from my drooling face. The aforementioned gentleman expeditiously microwaved my taste nuggets, we exchanged currency, and I retreated to my... err... the vehicle, where I can be alone to devour in privacy. When I took my first bite, the clouds parted and the god of tasty food gave me an epic thumbs up, Buddy Christ style (you can tell this is a lie because we all know that there are no clouds in TX). I found the standard breakfast combination to be elevated to the next level by the sweet dough envelope. I completely forgot to mention that I ordered a coffee too. Yeah, it was coffee. I'm not complaining, I'm not raving. I was satisfied. Okay, so a short back story: Maybe about two years ago, I found my eyes open at a friend's (amazing) house about 45 minutes, or so, outside of Houston. (Following the trend here?) I stumble into the kitchen to make some coffee, when my friend walks in the door from having worked all night. In tow, he has a bakery box of koclaches. I loveeee this place, even though it's a chain. There used to be one by my mom's house in Houston and I have been addicted ever since. The jalapeno popper kolache is fantastic! Way fattening, but awesome. Jalapenos, cream cheese and bacon. I mean, come on. I usually get that and the Rancheros kolache too, which is very flavorful. They also have a "Kolache of the Month" which I like to go and try out. They have had some pretty awesome ones. read more

I wanted something cheap for breakfast as i had to drop my boyfriend off at work early this morning. A friend of mine had mentioned the Kolache Factory and someone had pushed the "Like" button on facebook so I decided to give it a try. I assumed it would be busier at 7:30am. Just one elderly couple sitting in the dining room. and then one guy came in after me for a cup of coffee. So yeah the girl behind the register her name was Cathleen or at least thats what the reciept said. She is probably the worst customer service rep i've ever met.... lol maybe not quite, but it really wasn't a "great" experience. I was not impressed. She seemed annoyed like I was interupting something that was going on with her and someone else in the kitchen. Ha! No I'm not going to leave you a tip. Not for putting a couple sticky buns in a bag and rolling your eyes at me like you are so awesome and i am a bum or something. You probably make more money than me anyway. By the Way!! Kolache Factory does for Czech cuisine what Taco Bell did for Mexican. Who cares what it's actually called or actually tastes like when it's done right? Throw some sausage in some bread and the masses will eat it up and write insipid Yelp reviews because they're just that ignorant. The kolaches are terrible and simply not worth the calories. The klobasneks (closed-face kolache-ish dough with sausage or other fillings in them) are ok. They're not going to break any taste barriers, but then again it's not hard to make a klobasnek taste good. It's got sausage in it. Bitter? Jaded? No, I just want a good kolache. read more

Stopped by Kolache Factory this morning because I was in the area and Kolaches sounded pretty good. I got the Bacon Egg Cheese, Sausage Egg Cheese, Ranchero, Jalepeno Sausage Cheese, and a regular sausage. If you are used to the great Kolaches you can pick up when passing through West, TX then you will be underwhelmed. The mini sausage kolache had what seemed like a canned Vienna sausage stuck inside. The bread was bland and lacked flavor. All of the egg combo kolaches were stuffed with eggs that tasted like the eggs you get at a Holiday Inn buffet right before they pick up the complimentary breakfast you get with your room. The Jalepeno cheese sausage Kolache was OK but I think it had just come out of the oven. Maybe this place is better earlier in the morning when it's busy and they're pumping out fresh kolaches on a more regular basis? read more

As much as you hear about this place on the radio I had higher hopes for their kolaches than what i actually had. They are sub-par, no more.

Something is off here with the kolache dough. It doesn't taste as sweet and yeasty as it should. I found the sausage to be tasty but that's not really what makes a Kolache special is it? That being said I went here with a friend who has never had a real kolache before and she like it just fine. I wouldn't be a snob about these if someone bought them for me, but I won't be coming back for myself. Girlfriend and I decided to put insomnia to good use and took a chance on this little shop at 6AM. Damn tasty food. Get the ham, egg and cheese croissant. Really lovely way to start the morning. Don't listen to other reviews about the service. You're there to get some grub and go- not be catered to. Though I have to say this morning's customer service experience was pretty awesome considering we showed in pajamas and bedhair. If you're in the neighborhood I'd recommend giving this one a go. I work just across the street from here and it was recommended for lunch. It is sooooooo goood! I tried three the Italian chicken (best), philly steak (second) and the sausage egg and cheese (third) but all were pretty good. Food items are great, and yes you do have to specify to have them heated, although most times they ask. My disappointment is their opening. While the door says they open 6:00, I wouldn't plan on getting there until 6:10 or after because that's when the doors finally get unlocked. Once they let you in, everyone disappears into the back and no one stays up front to start assisting customers. Another worker came in, clocked in, and then went in the back. I adore Kolache Factory! I pick-up breakfast for a team of approximately 30 people once a week. For the longest time, "donuts and kolaches" from a donut place down south was a staple, but not a particular favorite as the kolaches were the typical "link-in-a-bun". One day, I scooped by Kolache Factory and picked up a variety of kolaches. One gentleman on my team who absolutely disliked the "link-in-a-bun" kolaches is now a kolache fan! You could not ask more from the service--the folks working the counter are super friendly. The manager, Greg, has been very accommodating when I forget to save my receipt (to expense the cost) and is always super helpful by sending me a copy. I'll continue to be a Kolache Factory customer in both my personal and business life! read more

I wish I could give this 3.5 stars. The food is really solid and always fresh, even if you show up right before closing. It's also surprisingly not greasy, they'll ask you if you want it heated up. You wouldn't know it from the lack of advertising, but some of the food can be quite filling while simultaneously diet-friendly. My personal favorite is the ham and cheese because it's small and low calorie but has tons of stuff inside, which makes it really filling. I wish the specials were actually "special" as in more out there or unique. While the place is clean, parking is bad, and it can be hard to get in and out of the location. Plus, the way the dining area is set up is such that if you're there during rush hours, the line hovers near your table. Overall, it's a good breakfast/brunch staple. read more
