Lamb tikka, sprouts salad and lemon rice
    Jeanette S.

I stopped in again since everywhere else had a long line and I figured it give this place another shot. It was much better this time around. This time I had the lamb tikka sprouts salad and lemon rice. What I really wanted was the lamb tikka and chicken korma, the the guy working said that the choice had to be one meat and one veggie. The spout salad went really well with the lamb. Personally I like the salad. It had a really nice crunch and brought freshness to the dish. I love the lamb tikka! Will definitely be back for that.

Komala Curry House is located on the first floor of Topa Financial Center in downtown on Bishop street. It's the same building that houses Aloha Bakehouse & Cafe. I passed by Komala Curry House and wanting to try them for awhile. Unfortunately, my food experience in Indian cuisine is probably none and unfamiliar. I managed to try their Samosa a week ago. It's fried dumplings with curry fillings inside. They were delicious. So today, I tried their mini chicken mild curry with lemon rice for $9. The man who helped me asked what I tried last time. What a friendly guy? He was kind enough to include a scoop of spicy chicken curry for me to try. What a nice complimentary! Honestly, I was afraid that mild curry would be still too spicy for me. I don't do spicy at all. Surprisingly, chicken mild curry was not spicy at all. It was light, with lots of flavors and spices, soft chicken meat, and I think it had light coconut milk. As for the complimentary spicy chicken curry, that was definitely spicy for me but I think if you're a spicy lover, it's probably nothing. I personally think it's good to expand different cuisine in our life time because you never know what you're missing. There's some vegetarian selection here too. If you're unfamiliar with Indian curry feel free to ask. The man is friendly and he'll explain to you. It's in downtown so get there early like 12pm so you can see the entire selection. I wasn't able to get Samosa this time since I went there at 1:45pm.

My new favorite place to come and get lunch during my break!!! I love coming here, I highly recommend getting the ginger tea, the taste is beyond amazing. The service is amazing they are so nice and create a genuine connection with you. Everything about this place is awesome! My go to order is spicy chicken and it is delicious.

Chicken korma, Okra mung bean kulambu, and Vegetable samosa

I work on Bishop street near the Aloha Tower so I usually need to find a food place to eat that's near my work. I wish this place offered a wider range of food like the other Indian restaurants here on this island. The menu is very basic so don't expect too much here. When you go on their website komalacurryhouse.com/tastydishes.html it explains their menu in more detail. But just letting you know that not all items you see on their website will be out to serve so I highly recommend to call in first to check what's available for the day so you don't get your hopes too up when you drop by. But Id say this place is good if you're looking for a quick bite. I ordered: *Regular size plate* -Lemon rice -Chicken korma (coconut) curry -Okra mung bean kulambu -Side order of Vegetable samosa. I really enjoyed their lemon rice and Chicken korma. The lemon rice was very zesty and flavorful from the lemon and the Chicken Korma was very creamy which paired well with the lemon rice. I wasn't sure which vegetable choice to pick but the owner recommended the Okra mung bean kulambu. To be honest, I wasn't really a fan of it because there was too much okra but the broth that it was in tasted decent. I will try something else next time. The vegetable samosa was pretty good to dip it in your curries. Check it out!

Butter chicken curry. Quick and easy to order. The chicken was moist and I loved the lemon rice!

I'm lucky this place is in my building as it has a lot of vegetarian choices daily. Not saying it's super healthy because it probably has high oil, butter or coconut milk content=high calorie. But at least it's not processed, feels like home cooking. You're probably better off eating Indian food than Subway. The decadent indulgences: The samosa is amazing you can taste the spices in the potato filling. The butter Naan bread (Paratha) really tasted like butter. I was like omg this is so darn delicious but I feel my butt getting bigger. Eat these sparingly as fried or high fat content + gluten. It's exotic and tasty, reasonably priced. I go here almost once a week.

I've been to 11 countries and 32 states. The Lamb Tikka here with a side of Naan and Paratha is the best I've had in everywhere I've been!

This place is located downtown in Topa Tower and is a good place for a quick bite to eat on your lunch! Whenever I am craving Indian food and don't feel like walking very far (I work across the street hehe) I usually go here. The food is good and I never regret going here. I like the butter chicken... it says spicy but it is not really that spicy (though I wish it was). I also like getting the mango chutney on the side to eat with my curry. Would definitely recommend going here if you're in the mood for Indian food and work close by.

Lima bean and potato pea curries over saffron rice

One of two locations in downtown Honolulu, this is one of the better lunch time places to get Indian. Located in Topa Center's food court, it's conveniently located for people working in the Makai areas of the city. The restaurant is obviously very small and has shared tables inside (you're better off getting the food to go). The owner was friendly and no-nonsense, just fast and efficient to get you out the door. They had many selections, both meat and vegetarian for the combo plates. Prices are excellent, especially for portion size and food quality. They also have side dishes like naan, samosas, and desserts. Many drink choices are available, most at fair prices. I have to remove one star as it's a cash-only establishment, which is inexcusable with technologies available today (I would go more often if it weren't for this inconvenience). I had two vegetarian curries- one with potato and peas and a spicy one with assorted vegetables. The saffron rice is always delicious. I had a butter naan, which was small but flavorful. It's a nice lunch option.

We've been eyeing the restaurant for a few weeks as we really enjoy Indian food. We were served immediately after being seated. Their menu was very organized and not confusing at all. We experienced great service from the time we arrived to the time we left the restaurant. I drink a lot of water and was pleased to see my water being refilled without asking. We did not feel overwhelmed by the selection of food that they had in their menu. We ordered: Pani puri as our appetizer. Butter chicken and lamb biryani as our entrees with garlic naan on the side. Mango lassi for our drinks. The food arrived in a very timely manner and the food was presented very well. The sever had asked us how spicy we wanted our food. We asked for medium spice level, and we were not disappointed with the taste and spice! The portions were perfect for the two of us! Our only critique about the food is that the lamb in the biryani was dry. Extra: Tadka Indian Cuisine is location in the Mccully shopping center. Parking was very limited even on a Monday evening. However, I believe you can park in the neighborhood nearby. The bathroom was clean and organized. Overall, my wife and I would definitely dine here again. We definitely want to invite some friends the next time we go! This is an automatic 5 stars in our book!

This time we ordered take out We got tadka wings, pani puri, lamb goan curry, lamb kebabs, lamb vindaloo(extra spicy!) , aloo naanand garlic/onion naan It was our first try of the pani puri, an Indian street food. It was sooo delicious I'm craving more of it now Goan curry is a staple for me since I love coconut. My son enjoyed his spicy vindaloo but he slowed down halfway through because the spice doesn't go away but he thoroughly enjoys that! the curries came with rice and I ordered extra raita for the curries too. We were so full after all of it. So if you haven't checked them out, go check um go. On another note, edible is now only open on the weekends I wanted their delicious cookies Guess there's always a next time at tadka

We were warned not to park on the street as they cars are towed away if you park on the street before 6:30pm The service was excellent as we did not know what to order The servers suggested we order the dinner for 4 people because we had a group of 6 diners. The portions are big and it would be enough. They were sure right, we all ate and still had 3 boxes of leftovers to take home. We ordered the vegetable appetizer sampler with all the sauces, Balti Lamb, Butter Chicken, saffron rice, Fish curry, Naan Bread, The interior of the restaurant is interesting the ceiling has all these beautiful lights and transports you to some foreign location. You don't think Hawaii while you are there. The server warned us that the tip of 18 percent is added to the bill so don't add additional 15-20 percent unless you want to. That was a nice warning. Overall a nice dinner and good for groups. It is a small restaurant so not many tables.

The cheese naan was a huge hit with the kids, and the mild butter chicken was flavorful without being too spicy--my wife, kids, and even our baby all enjoyed it. The standout for me, though, was the lamb boti. Our waitress mentioned that it isn't one of their more popular dishes, which honestly surprised me because it was exceptional. The lamb was cooked absolutely perfectly, the portion was very generous, and it came out sizzling with grilled onions. I eat lamb fairly often at Greek restaurants, steakhouses, and elsewhere, and this was genuinely some of the best lamb I've had all year. On top of the excellent food, the prices were remarkably reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. A fantastic meal all around, and we'll definitely be back.

It basically is one of the vendors in the food hall and you order and eat at one of the shared tables. Has to be as authentic as it gets. They have a pretty good selection. Basically it gives a few choices of what to get. It's got enough things for various flavors and preferences. They have options to get one, two, or three items of whatever. A lot are made with meat but there's some that aren't. It's $12 to get one item. Taro And Squash Fusion was the one for vegans. Items change up daily so keep on checking back. The food hall can have a bad smell like fish but it's not always like this. Also there's some outdoor seating in the courtyard. This allows groups to order from different vendors and eat together in one place. Good place to get some authentic Indian and Nepalese food. It's closed Mondays. There's plenty of things for meat eaters as well as for vegans and vegetarians.
