We brought a group of 18 to Kona Grill on a Tuesday night after calling ahead and making a reservation. To be fair, handling a large group isn't easy, and the staff was clearly trying, but the experience felt pretty disorganized overall. It took a while for us to get seated, and then our group ended up split between two servers, which made things a bit confusing from the start. Food came out at very different times, and they were out of a surprising number of menu items. In multiple cases, people ordered something only to find out afterward that it wasn't available and had to completely reorder. Three people at our table ordered steaks that were listed as coming with a sauce, but when the meals arrived there was no sauce. Only then were we told they were out of it. As for the food itself, it was fine. I had the wings (which were nice and meaty) and the wedge salad, which was decent, but nothing especially memorable. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but for the price point and the size of our reservation, we expected things to feel a little more prepared and coordinated. read more

Came here for the Happy Hour which is widely advertised. I was not terribly impressed. First off the portions on the happy hour menu are small. Way way small to the point that you are actually getting what you are paying for. Discount is fictitious. Sliders were just about the most tasteless I ever had. Burger was about the same. Potstickers were served 3 for $9 and they were all right about C-. I complained about the sliders so manager comped me meatballs. They were ok. I had non alcoholic beer and that was $8 which was regular price. At the end I was presented with the bill and I paid it, as I was about to leave when the server told me she forgot to include my beers and I need to pay as well. So I tried paying for that but because some other register was open this turned to take a while. Blah. Total blah for an experience. And lastly AC was broken so it was hot as hell. So, we decided to try Kona one last time. It's 9:40 PM on Thursday. I just landed from week long trip and finally made it home. We decided let's get food. We walk in, and almost always it takes forever to be sat. This time 20 minutes. It's 10 PM. The hostess was pleasant, and we thought maybe it will work out this time. After waiter and waitresses pass us by for 20 minutes, a young woman asked if we had been helped and we said no. She then left, and the hostess sat two women within eye shot. A waiter walked up immediately to serve them. That was that and we started to leave it's almost 50 minutes since we walked in to Kona. The waitress stopped my wife and said are you sure I can't serve you. So we sit back down, and it got weird. We ordered our food + beverages and we could tell she was perturbed so we stood up and walked out. No need to see what an I don't want to be here on Thursday night crew. Literally we never said anything other than it's been over twenty minutes sitting here and no one has even said hello. She said we did not know who owned the table so we ignored you. Here is the what's crazy, we have kids that are servers (NOT HERE) and we have tried our best to put the effort and try Kona again. I know it's always easy to say, but it has been at least 5 months since our last horrific wait to be served moment. I promise I'm never going back. Superb! This restaurant is situated in a very upscale neighborhood with high-end condos and buildings and looked very nice and welcoming. The restaurant is huge and spacious and very clean. The restaurant is among a big complex of businesses, including the movie theater and a giant fountain. The ambience was really pleasant. They have an open bar area, where you can sit inside the restaurant and also outside the restaurant. You can also walk around with alcohol purchased at the restaurant. The service was really great. The bartender and the host were both very gregarious and upbeat. The bartender maintained all of my needs refilled my water checked in on my meal satisfaction. It was overall great. I ordered the usual Kona items I always get, which is the angry edamame, the Kona margarita, and the cilantro lime chicken. Everything tasted amazing. Everything was hot fresh and delicious. This was our second time here. Overall great experience. We had a chef's tasting which was really good. I b had the lime chicken with rice which was so flavorful. We had meatballs served on top of mashed potatoes, pretzel bites, and avocado rolls as appetizers. They do have a kids menu here, and our crew grabbed the bento boxes and Mac & cheese skillets. We of course had the butter cake for dessert...one of our favorites and is immediately devoured. I love coming because the vibe is always on point. We've come on Sundays, and the game is typically playing on t he screens. They also have little pads at the tables that have games on them, and this keeps the kids occupied the entire time. Great addition for families. Our server was great! Our food cane out on time, we didn't have to wait long, and he got everything we needed correctly. Trying out the items with a "K" on the menu. It indicates the crowd favorite. * Wagyu Meatball - Sweet sauce was nice. It pretty much takes over the whole meatball. Cant really taste much of the wagyu. The garlic mash is nice, but the meatball isnt the star on this plate. 6.7/10 * Calamari - Fire! I love the crunch. The flavor is superb. Seasonings are dialed just right. There's a present spice finish. The accouterments like the shishito and peruvian peppers are sublime. 9/10 * Seared Sea Bass Sliders - The fish is very nice. It does have a nice crunch from the searing. Bun is nice and soft. The slaw on it is perfect. It also came with chips, which is nice and crispy, seasoned extremely nicely. The whole plate is a 8/10 Asian Chicken Salad - Cant really taste what makes this an Asian salad aside from the use of cabbage. The vinaigrette is nice and punchy. Chicken is perfectly cooked. 7.5/10 Penne with Chicken - The sauce is very nice. Peppery notes are surfacing, sort of like an americanized caccio e peppe with a lemon finish. Chicken is pretty nice with it. My only critique is that the noodles are a little over done. 7.3/10 Service was great. Setting was dope. I enjoyed the experience very much. read more

I walked countless times by this place, but have never stopped by, and honestly, I don't really know why... until today. First of all, they have a great Social Hour... thy includes items from $3, $6 and $9. Varied section for all. Second, the restaurant is very chic and modern, perfect for meetings or date night. On this occasion we were there for a quick meeting, which worked out great because it was quiet enough to have a conversation. Finally... the food. Everything we ordered tasted great. The cheeseburger and fries were the highlight. Though the patty was a bit smaller than i anticipated, it was definitely flavorful. The chicken fried rice was also really good once we added some soy sauce and Tabasco. The chicken bbq flatbread was also phenomenal. The shrimp taco however... was not all that great. Actually, I'm not even sure it had shrimp in it. It was mostly cabbage or something... All and all, this is a great spot to try at the Avalon. What made our first visit to Kona Grill so enjoyable was our server, Reggie. Fantastic server, conversationalist, and on point with all his recommendations. A local bestie, who I'm completely head-over-heels in love with (but that's another story), recommended this place, so my only disclaimer is that this review may be slightly skewed by my inner simp. But let's do this: The Macadamia Nut Chicken was uniquely delish. I've had sweet 'n savory but sauces many times in the past, but this take was interesting. I personally recommend mixing their pineapple marmalade on top of their macadamia sauce, and add a SLIGHT dash of soy sauce to bring out the best. I loved this dish, and while I normally dislike green beans, absolutely devoured their sweet chili version that accompanied the chicken. It's a must try! The veggie sushi roll was on point, which I didn't think was possible without fish, but apparently they've figured it out, so it's an easy order on future visits. I'd never had soy brussel sprouts before, but you know what? It works really well, and will likely be a staple must-have in the future. Love the place, the staff, the ambiance, and the food so far. My wife and I went for the 1st time on Friday. We were concerned because of a lot of the Yelp reviews. However I must say it was a pleasant surprise. The staff was extremely nice, Imani is outstanding! Inside is also nice, really enjoyed the ambiance. My wife had the sweet chili salmon and I had the lemon penne with chicken. Both dishes were really good. The only reason they didn't get a 5 is because where we sat had a dirty mop smell and I can't wrap my head around the fact that my non alcoholic beer was more expensive that my wife's margarita. They over sauce, spice and fry everything because the quality of the food is poor. If you order a sushi roll with any sort of sauce or spice that is all you taste, which seems like by design because the fish is subpar. Update to my previous review, which is still valid. Food here is really good. Great indoor and outdoor dining options. Service can be hectic during busy times. Here is trick on service, during less busy times enjoy a nice meal inside. On busy weekend nights during concerts, do what we do, order to go and enjoy meal on the patio outside near the fountain. Kona does great job on to go orders. Not to mention, that during busy times all the restaurants at Avalon are swamped. Slightly pricey but worth it. You can thank me later. Enjoy! read more

We had a reservation at 7 and didn't get seated for 10 minutes, then didn't have a waiter take our order for another 10 when we were seated, and then once they did it took another 10 to get anything. We're thirty minutes into being here and Just got our first drinks, the patio bubbles (which was good) and the margarita (which was not- it's a cheap mix they use). They forgot to get us waters and we asked multiple times. I understand if they were understaffed and slow, but we could see the servers talking in a corner not doing anything. The restaurant ran out of silverware at one point, and it was right when we got our appetizers so we had to let them go cold before we got our silverware to eat them. The appetizers took forever to come out and were only okay. The sushi was all imitation meat and not very fresh. I would not recommend getting it from here. There are much better sushi places nearby. The potstickers were average. The salad was pretty good but wasn't anything special. The miso soup was also OK, it was cold by the time it came out to us. It took an extra hour for them to bring out our entrées and in that whole time they did not refill our drinks. They also kept dropping food on our table when they would deliver it, as if they have never carried a plate before. I'm usually very patient and wouldn't mind if their service wasn't amazing, but it was downright terrible. The waitress got food on my friends phone. They spilled our water on the table. They took away our plates and silverware and then didn't bring us out any new ones. And we were still optimistic at this point. Trying to make the most of it. But out comes the prime rib, the salmon and the burger, which are all overcooked. Nothing was cooked how we asked it. And everything was dry. It was so bland and borderline cold. The only redeemable meal the entire night was a macadamia nut chicken. The stirfry was so bad and cold and overcooked. Run, don't walk, to any other hotel in the area. Look, I get that millions of people need to prioritize budget motels when they travel to keep costs down, but do it in another hotel. If traveling with family or co-workers, DO NOT BE FOOLED by their multiple bed claims. Our "multiple bed" rooms featured a pull out couch mattress with a thickness of a thin crust pizza. It was absolutely brutal. We had 9 in our group, which meant that 2 of us where on these "mattresses" (aka paper towels) and we where physical hurting the whole trip. In addition, they provided no bedding of any kind, the mattresses were yellow, and when we finally did get some sheets, they were actually just bed skirts. The showers were disgusting, water pressure abysmal, breakfast was disgusting to say the least, pool was closed (honestly, probably for the better) and we never did get new towels read more

No one handed us utensils when we sat down so when the food came out we were like....hiw are we gonna eat this and it took them a good minute to realize we didn't have utensils. Our waitress was nice, however, she was paying more attention to the lady sitting directly behind me. I never got a refill of water when I really needed it because I got the Picasso roll and eating a few of those Jalapeños can really put some heat in your mouth. This lady had her phone out on a tripod and was ordering a bunch of food. I'm assuming she's like me and is a food content creator. The difference between me and that lady is, she was asking for attention, I was discreet. She got her food before my table. They kept checking on her and just breezing by my table and really only checked in once, which is fine, but if you're gonna do it to someone directly behind me, you might as well do it for your surrounding tables that are paying attention. Unfortunately, that was upsetting that you guys were so focused on her that you neglected your other tables, which unbeknownst to you, I actually do the same thing but I'm not begging for the attention. ZERO stars if I could!! I had a booking for Mother's Day - I reached within the 15 minutes grace period. They would not seat my party. I have a 85 year old mother and a 2.5 year old child. I even sent a message to the restaurant via open table. They just left me high and dry on MOTHERS DAY inspite of having a reservation. NEVER again will I trust them for any special occasion dining. Then we had Jamillah, she was the bomb, she gave the best service I've had in months. Very warm and welcoming made us feel right at home. Her laughter was infectious!!!!! I was actually hesitate coming here after reading all the reviews on here. I came here on Friday evening with a few girlfriends. Reservations were easily made on resy. We were greeted right when we arrived and decided to sit outside since it was a nice day. They have a large outdoor area with heat lamps (perfect on this spring day) and half the bar is outside so you can sit there also. Sebastian was our server and he was awesome! He was attentive and engaging. We ordered off the happy hour menu and everything was delicious. The angry edamame had a nice spice! The lettuce wrap was so good with the sauce and fresh large lettuce leaves. The meatball was succulent and the mash potatoes were fluffy underneath. The sushi rolls were fresh and the avocado rolls were nicely fried. The only thing was the drinks fell a little short, but still a nice time overall. My husband got the surf and turf and the size of the lobster tail was laughable. The piece of meat was the size of one shrimp. For $50 it was highway robbery. I got the chicken and waffles and it was served with a weird aioli that made no sense at all, at first I thought it was butter. Overall my meal lacked flavor. The service was so slow for a Sunday afternoon with an empty restaurant (guess that should have been our sign to leave). We had five people at the server kept being over drinks two at a time. This is the first time my husband and I have been to this restaurant. I can say we enjoyed our experience! Nesa was our server and we were very pleased with her service as well as her recommendations from the menu when we were trying to decide between different dishes. She was helpful and made our evening enjoyable. The steak stir fry, lemon penne bowl, macadamia crusted chicken, and seafood alfredo were all great. Our granddaughter also enjoyed her cheese pizza. We also ordered the meatballs as an appetizer and these were almost a meal in themselves. Totally worth it, and the brownie with ice cream for dessert. We ended up with to go boxes to take our leftovers home! Managers came by our table a couple of times to ask how everything was and we were happy to tell them it was great. Not a bad experience - I'd give a 3.5 but rounding up to 4. Unfortunately the air was out on the Sunday afternoon we visited, but there were ample fans and air conditioning units throughout in addition to it being a cool day. The staff also accommodated the increasing temps by refilled our frozen margarita flight as they melted sooner than they should have given the temps. I ordered the smokehouse burger which was great but was missing both sauces that were supposed to be on it. The fries were good as well. We also got the fish and chips which was good. Overall, food is good but probably won't be back - I think the menu pricing is weird,not sure how everything we ordered ended up $95 but turns out the fish and chips was $40 which is insane to me. The 6oz filet I almost ordered was cheaper than that... weird? Also had a good server so worth the time for today but not a place I'd recommend moving forward. read more

As a first time Kona visitor, it was overall okay. We entered and were seated right away at a table. The hostess even read my note I sent with the reservation about my boyfriend's birthday being the same day. So they knew we'd come to celebrate. After being seated however the value of the experience went down because no one came to greet us until a manager, Adam, came to say someone would be over soon. It still took some time but then Alejandro came to assist after saying he wasn't actually assigned to this area. From there it was confusing to know who to ask for things but the two gentlemen tried their best to accommodate. We were given an appetizer (edamame) which was seasoned well on the top layer. Needs more consistent seasoning throughout but free so no complaints. We purchased a potsticker order which tasted frozen not fresh and placed in a microwave based on how gummy and old tasting it was. No real flavor either. We ordered drinks (the electric lemonade and sangria). Lemonade was good. Sangria was sweet and pretty good. Finally, our entrees were steak with fries and salmon with fried rice. I'm not sure the vibe they're going for with flavor profiles but the seasoning for the steak was good, salmon was cooked too well and the sauce was a bit sweet but fine. My issue came with the fried rice which was bland and lukewarm at best. I didn't finish the rice. They had a tv playing Mission Impossible then sports and music was good background music but not sure the vibe they were going for with the ambiance. Overall, we won't be making the trip back out to Alpharetta, but we did appreciate Adam and Alejandro trying to make my boyfriend's birthday special with a warm butter cake that tasted great and complimentary champagne. read more
