I want to share an experience I had at Kona Grill today (April 7th around 2:45 PM) that was honestly very disappointing. I stopped in intending to apply for a position and simply wanted to ask if I could leave my resume or briefly speak with a manager. Before I could even finish my sentence, the hostess immediately cut me off and said, "Nope, not how it works," in a very dismissive tone. I politely asked if I could still leave my resume, and she refused. I then asked if a manager might be available for a quick introduction, and without even checking, I was told, "Nope, not happening, he's busy." The restaurant was very slow at the time, which made the interaction feel even more dismissive. Her tone felt extremely condescending, and the way I was spoken to honestly left me so uncomfortable I was on the verge of tears. At that point, I asked to speak with a manager not even about the job anymore, but to address how I was being treated and she still refused. When I asked for her name, she told me it was "Ellie." I later confirmed through a friend who works there that her name is actually Fernanda. I completely understand that there are hiring processes and preferred channels for applications, but there is still a way to communicate that with basic professionalism and respect. As someone who works in a client-facing industry, I value communication, and this interaction did not reflect that at all. I'm sharing this not just out of frustration, but because first impressions matter for both guests and potential employees. I hope this is addressed so future interactions are handled with more professionalism and courtesy. read more

I've been to Kona Grill several times over the years and usually enjoyed it, but this visit was really disappointing. We came in for a late lunch, and the pacing of the meal was completely off. We ordered a sushi entrée as an appetizer, which may have caused some confusion? but it still didn't arrive until after we had completely finished our entrees -- and that was even after a long delay because my teriyaki had to be recooked. The chicken was omitted entirely from the teriyaki, and the dish that came out looked so sad that it really should have been caught before it ever left the kitchen. The server then just brought a chopped up chicken breast after 10 minutes so then the sad veggies were cold. I did ask for it to be remade. When the teriyaki finally came back with the chicken added, it still wasn't great. For $30, it tasted like a frozen Birdseye stir‑fry with a few pieces of fresh broccoli tossed in. Nothing special at all. We were also charged for the late appetizer, though the server did correct it when we pointed it out. At this point my husband was basically done with his French dip which was very good -- but overall it didn't feel like a $70 lunch for two. No one offered to make things right or even acknowledge the issues. I've had great meals here before, so I'm not sure what happened, but this visit really missed the mark and I don't think I'll be back. read more

I wanted to give this place more stars. The ambiance was great and our server was so nice. However, the food quality compared to price just didn't add up for me. We had avocado egg rolls, and those were great but they were small and 20.00. My husband had waygu beef fried rice, he said he didn't find the quality of the beef to be at all in like with waygu beef. Then I had the Asian salad with chicken, and it was like 30 bucks for a salad that was drenched in dressing. We then got the most expensive piece of tiny cheesecake to take home. So this is an interesting review for me to write. The Kona Grill is a big chain, and that definitely moderates my expectations. But they are part of the same restaurant group as STK, and their entrance at the Cherry Creek Mall looks great. Inside, it's drafty and in desperate need of a facelift. The food was fine. Had the clam chowder, the Wagyu fried rice and the Macadamia Chicken. I was going to have a frozen margarita, but settled for on the rocks because their frozen machine was potentially iffy. All the food was fine, the chowder with it's coconut milk and lemongrass was particularly good. The wait staff were so nice! And they seem to have some good deals. read more

Just had happy hour for the first time and it's a pretty solid deal with their 3,6,9 menu. Tasty margarita and Crystal got a "kosmopolitan". We got the meatballs which we had gotten a one of their events before so we knew they were a solid choice over the mashed potato's of course. We also got a sushi roll it was a crunch roll very tasty lots of flavor and good texture and fresh. And last but not least which is such a crazy deal is the cheeseburger with lettuce tomato and pickles and a side of fries for $6 which I was shocked at the price especially for being a solid quality! Crystal especially loves tomato and lettuce on her burger and she loved that it was an excellent quality veggies fresh and crispy and it really brought the burger together. All of this came to about $50 which is pretty great for the amount of food we had and we also got drinks too. This was a fun stop for us being shopping around the cherry creek mall to look for some outfits for our evening out later that night. Definitely will keep them in mind for grabbing a bite before or after shopping and especially for their happy hour deals. I would love to also note that our server was fantastic. Excellent atmosphere, especially if you can score a patio seat on a nice day. The food is good and, if you can make it for happy hour, they have great selection of small bites and drinks alike. Tip: if you're there to drink, order two drinks as soon as you see a server. This may be the slowest bar I've ever seen. Good drinks, but if you're dropping a few hundred for dinner like we did, it's disappointingly slow. And all over the wall it's a sushi, but I went in there and I got the menu and there's one third of one side that sushi and not even great sushi the whole other side of the menu is drinks and then 2/3 of other food so I realized that I was not gonna get sushi and ordered the $19 lunch special. I ordered the chicken sandwich couldn't even take a bite out of the chicken. It was so hard I gave it back. They took $10 off my meal and so I got french fries and a brownie for nine Dollars. After shopping all morning, I needed a spot for late lunch! They offer happy hour as early as 2pm(until 6pm) which made it an ideal stop. My waitress, Erica, was incredibly sweet and provided excellent customer service. I ordered from the "$3,$6,$9" menu. The edamame($3) came out hot and fresh. The shrimp and chicken lettuce wraps($9) came with a delicious sauce and were for sure my favorite item today. The bama roll ($9) was alright, a little heavy on the cream cheese for me. I used to love Kona Grill! Happy hour was awesome! I should have known when the restaurant wasn't crowded. It took 10 minutes for us to be greeted. When our server came back we ordered our drinks & meals. Drinks came, mine was wrong and mediocre at best. Another 30 minutes until our food came. The food was okay, nothing grand. This place is absolutely disgraceful. I will never ever go back. This place has 5 star prices but 1 star food. My review might be long, but please read and be warned. We went as a group of 4 for my partner's birthday dinner. The first terrible part of the experience was outside the front door with the valet. They are probably not just for Kona grill, but it was pretty awful. I pulled up to the front door so that I could drop off my elderly in-laws who are 80 years old, so then I could go park myself. The valet opens my door himself and then yells at me "drop off is over there!" when I told him that I was just dropping off my elderly guests. Not cool at all. Then when we got in the restaurant, the horrible experience continued. I'll try to summarize things but the service was slowwwwww and it wasn't even busy/full. It took over an hour to get our food. Then the food was awful. My fish and chips were a sad excuse for food. It was not even edible. Hard, crispy and deep fried beyond recognition. The filet mignon was unseasoned and flavorless. The only thing that actually tasted good in the meal was the fries. So we complained, and the manager would only take off 2 of our meals and we had to pay for the other 2 entrees and drinks. Very poor customer service. If they had comped the whole thing or given a gift card for the future, I would have given them another chance. Came for the Taste of Kona with some friends - 2 of us got the filet and 2 of us got the penne with shrimp. The Pasta was great very tasty and the steak was tender and good. You start with an appetizer, entree and dessert for $39 ea which is not bad. Loved the chocolate cake, the cheesecake looked good but I didn't try. This also comes with glass of wine or champagne. The selection was not bad - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or moscato. Ambiance is nice here even it being technically attached to the mall it's a dark and edgy kind of vibe. Me & my sister went here for Sunday brunch. I didn't think much of it because it seems very casual. We were seated upon arrival. We decided to get bottomless mimosas along with our brunch. The mimosas were pretty decent, but sometimes, it took a while for them to come out. The brunch itself, while decent, was not bottomless. My sister ordered the All-American breakfast, and I think she liked it. I ordered the Eggs Benedict plate, and I think it was pretty okay. I ordered the string beans, and honestly, I think it was a highlight of the brunch. If I am not mistaken, I think the string beans are the Talk of the Town because they are that delicious (though quite pricey). Although this is Denver, Colorado, the prices pretty much resembled that of DC brunches, in which I considered to be the brunch capital of the country. Would I come here again? I am unsure, but I heard that Kona Grill has a really good happy hour throughout the week. If I return to Denver again, I will likely attend at least one happy hour throughout the week. read more

I come here often for happy hour and the rolls are super inexpensive between six and nine dollars each. the flatbread the - barbecue flatbread - is a must every single time. the chicken and shrimp Lettuce wraps are also absolutely delicious. Those are always my go to meals (most times I'm picking all three). I've tried the meatballs. Those are pretty good. Not really a fan of the popcorn chicken, & they just recently added fries to their happy hour menu. Friday nights there is sometimes a live DJ which gives it a club vibe but still family friendly. I brought my nine-year-old son here quite a bit and he loves to come and eat all of their food. Then to top it off, we had $150 in gift cards. $10 went "missing", and she only applied $120 to the bill. If I wasn't paying attention, we would have paid $20 - $30 more!! I wouldn't go back to this place if you paid me. AND...when we went to the valet, they asked how our experience was. Good for happy hour, drinks and the ambiance! Came here on a Sunday afternoon to meet some friends. It was a strange experience. To start off they have high top tables that they are trying to cramp four people at, very uncomfortable when it is clearly meant to sit 2 or 3, plus there is a big credit card machine that takes up way to much space. We were greeting by our waiter who already seemed pretty annoyed, not sure why. It took her over 15 minutes to grab drinks, which would have been fine if it weren't for the fact it was on tap beer and a white claw. I did have to take off two stars for the cleanliness, food and service. Our water glasses were so gross, you could feel the dirt on the outside of the glass. The food was a hit or miss. The only thing that was great was the chicken skewers, and chicken poppers. The flat bread was under cooked, meatballs had good flavor however very clear they sat under a heat lamp for a while as the mashed potatoes were hard and crusty. Sushi was nothing to write home about. Seems like the menu is too broad to have everything be good. Service wasn't great either, we constantly had empty plates/glasses on the table and our waiter/bussers came by never grabbing anything so we had to stack everything super high as we were still eating on the plates. I did leave on three stars as the validate parking, have a very vibey ambiance with fish tanks and great music! The music was a little loud; we had to shout to talk to the people on opposite corners of the table. - The manager was incredible. My steak was seriously tough. He came to check on our table after we had taken a couple of bites and when I told him that my steak wasn't good, he replaced it without hesitation. The not-so-good: - Our food took FOREVER. We were there for 2 hours and cancelled our dessert because it was 10:30 pm and we were done sitting there. - The food wasn't as good as we hoped. We chalked it up to a late night meal, but for the price, we wanted to love the experience. - Our server wasn't the best. She tried, but her cadence was terrible and we waited for refills, our check and the dessert we never got. It took 10 minutes to get an error on our check resolved. Went there for happy hour Friday evening with a friend. Started with happy hour drinks, sangria, and old-fashioned. Would not recommend either one. Sangria was bland/flavorless and the old-fashioned was watered down. We ordered the spicy edamame, which was really the highlight of the meal. Spicy tuna roll was just OK. Loaded fries I wouldn't order again. Shrimp taco was pretty decent. The most disappointing part was that my friend who is vegetarian had no options on the happy hour menu so she ordered off the regular menu - the Kona stirfry with tofu - there was more steamed rice on the plate than tofu and stirfry vegetables. The dish was at best, a 5-6/10. The most shocking part was that they charged $38 for this dish. I guess lesson learned - buyer beware - their regular menu is ridiculously priced especially for the food they're serving. I wouldn't go back. The server was not familiar with the menu items, even though we asked him to check with the kitchen to make sure no raw fish is on certain sushi roll (the menu does not indicate a raw fish symbol). After he checked with kitchen, confirmed with us that there's no raw fish. The sushi roll came out beautifully displayed with raw fish on the top... we asked this server if she could ask the kitchen to sear the fish; she said yes. Our sushi roll never returned nor were we told that it was not possible and we're still waiting for the roll. We fished eating other items before our original server returned to ask how things were; it was then that we found out our sushi roll is not coming... Then when we get our parking ticket validated at the front, we answered that our experience was "ok" there's no follow up question. Communication was clearly poor for a highly rated restaurant. Despite poor service experience, the kid bento box and sea bass sliders were the best item. My husband also enjoyed his tuna tartare; simple dish of just tuna, chilli oil, mashed avocado and chips. The meatballs were interesting and has a unique mushroom umami flavor, but it was coated in a very sweet syrup that's a bit too much for me. We came in for my first visit. The wife has taken advantage of the happy hour deals a few times previously. The hosts were nice upon arrival. Our server Lacey did an excellent job and was very helpful. We ordered a few margaritas and a Sangria. The drinks were delicious. We ordered two fish tacos, pot stickers, lettuce wraps, spicy tuna roll, and Avocado egg rolls. Everything was sensational. And plenty of food. We left filled up and with an enjoyable tipsy energy. I would suggest sitting at the lower table versus the high table. And make a reservation before coming in. We did not have a reservation and did not wait long at all. Beautiful ambiance inside.
