Our server was so nice and I felt bad because when we came in, his section was packed. By the time he got to finally taking our order, we had missed happy hour and we had came in with the intention of having a variety of happy hour items and make it into a fun girl dinner. He was so kind and tried his hardest for us to be able to have happy hour. He really pulled strings and tried everything in his power to make it happen. We just couldn't get drinks which was fine. We had gotten there well before happy hour was ending, but since his section was so packed, it took him a very long time to get to us. It was understandable though because he had at least 14 people he was attending to in the section. We ordered sliders, 3 sushi rolls, and the chicken wrap. The chicken wraps were a little different from what we were used to. Using the super leafy part of the lettuce that you had to really hold in your hands to make it into a wrap. The sushi rolls were fine. The sliders were very juicy and yummy. My nieces had the kids bento boxes and they loved it. The little attention to detail by carving up the orange to look like a little animal was super cute. I was a bit confused looking at the menu. Thinking this was going to be a Hawaiian spot from the name, but the menu offered a very wide range of food that didn't seem quite cohesive. Our server was very sweet and attentive. The pasta dish was good, and nice and saucy, so my niece k ew it would warm up well as a leftover - it was a generous portion. i had the macadamia nut chicken which was tasty but didn't seem very fresh. The chicken breasts were not pounded but breaded and served on top of mash potatoes. there was a flavorful gravy but i wasn't really a fan of the texture of the gravy. Green beans were also served with the dish. The green beans were not very well prepared. Several of them still had stems on them and there were several that i would have tossed and not served due to dark ends or spots. If i go back i'll try a sushi or seafood item as it seems as if that might be their strong point. With several incredible Hawaiian options in Portland, Kona Grill's culinary experience lacks much of what Portlanders love. However, this is Tigard, so this might do well in the suburbs. The staff are very nice and love to chat and ensure a good experience, so hats of to them. They know the menu well, and can recommend unique drinks. I was not impressed with the cocktails, wine, or sushi, but I do not own a car, so coming here would be an irregular experience, anyways. I've been here twice now since thy re-opened as Kona Grill. It's absolutely lovely inside with their gas fire structures and modern artwork - and the food is very good! A little on the spendy side, but good. I got the sushi rolls and my friend got a steak, which he shared with me. The 2nd time around my bf and I shared a steak and sushi platter. Delicious! I don't live near Bridgeport - but do come to see movies next door once in a while, so this is a good option for a meal or drink before a show. read more

Opted to try this place out through GrubHub as what we were hoping to be a nice Sunday dinner. We've been looking at the menu for some time and it reminded us a bit of our favorite restaurant in Waikiki and today felt like the day we needed some of that in our lives. We got the Bama sushi roll, the angry edamame and the macadamia chicken to share. The driver actually did well because everything was fresh and hot when it arrived. To start - the sushi roll was just fine. Needed more jalapeño and sauce on top for our liking to make it great but all in all, it was good and the best part of the meal. I'd give it a middle of the road 3. The angry edamame had a tiny kick to it but oddly, no actual flavor - we aren't big salt users, but it actually was missing any semblance of salt or seasoning. Now for the chicken - this seems to be one of this restaurants main dishes. Ours came without sauce - which was supposed to be a pineapple and papaya marmalade with a shoyu cream sauce. This had neither so it was just dry crusted chicken - over cooked (wouldn't have probably noticed with a sauce on it). Potatoes and green beans were fine - but didn't have any significant flavor to them. All in all - will we try this place again? Probably, but during their Monday all day happy hour so if it's not good it's a smarter gamble. It's not an expensive restaurant in the grand scheme, but for Tigard and this area it is - there's not a ton of places doing dinner plates here at the $40-$50 price point so I feel that comes with it some responsibility to make those plates great. I did go back here in June and had a better experience. I finally got my free appetizer coupon through their rewards program. It's not instant and it took at least about 48 hours to receive it. I did use it on my last visit. They have a solid happy hour with good prices. If I ever go back it will definitely be for happy hour again. They are co-owned by Benihana so sushi and edamame are featured items to order. Our service was better, but again the waitress we had kept wanting to upsell us drinks and more food. It seemed a bit pressured and unwanted. All the food and tapas plates we ordered tasted delicious and were a good value at happy hour prices. With that being said, I still think they are overpriced otherwise and I wouldn't suggest going here unless it was during Happy Hour during the week. The bathroom also had a bad sewage smell when I used it which was also surprising. This place has potential, but I'm not sure how long it will last. Supposedly 1/4 lb, this thing was burnt and looked like a sliced hockey puck. Macadamia Chicken tasted microwaved and was ok. Crunch Roll and Spicy Tuna roll tasted like grocery store sushi. Here's the thing, these HH items were $6 each so there's no need for me to expect upscale quality, but at this price point you'll get better quality at a place like Oswego Grill. Myself and two others went for the first time on a Monday evening. We had made a reservation but it wasn't needed, the place wasn't too busy. The Good: Ambiance, drinks, calamari and desserts were good. Greeter and server were nice and friendly. The Bad: Overpriced menu. All three of us ended up ordering the $39 Taste of Kona menu (glass of wine, salad, entree, dessert) which was the only thing that wasn't overpriced. My father and I both ordered the penne pasta with shrimp. But after a few bites I realized there was zero shrimp in my dish. I asked my dad and he said he didn't see any in his either! We were going to say something but our server didn't come to check on us until we were nearly done eating the dish. The pasta itself was good, as well as the cheesy bread that came with it. We ended up getting $10 off our bill for this mistake. My husband had some sushi he enjoyed. However, he was later nauseous all night and got sick pretty bad in the morning. My girlfriend wanted to try this location for our anniversary, I've never been to Kona grill. We both got the same entrée. It was the Wagyu fried rice. The portion size was very small for a guy that likes to eat a lot of food but if you're looking for a smaller size entrée, it's perfect. The flavor was unbelievable the wagyu was very tender and soft. I would definitely recommend this entrée. The sashimi was fresh and the rice was sticky and perfect. The service was extremely good. They opened roughly a month ago, so I really did want to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are still working out kinks. We came at 4:45p on a Friday and were able to take advantage of some happy hour "deals" still. The happy hour portions were small and expensive for what you got ($6 for 3 tiny potstickers ?!). they were out of a lot of items so we had to redirect our order several times. The surf and turf head an overpowering season on it and the tofu stirfry had a congealed substance inside of it; both dishes were inedible to my dining partners. My eight piece fire dragon roll cost $23 and was very underwhelming. The restaurant was very strange in that it seemed to want to have a more hip vibe, but the clientele did not match it. For example, there was a live DJ mixing music but we were surrounded by families and middle age + people. I'm not optimistic. This place will last here. Not gonna lie: I was hesitant about trying the new Kona Grill in Bridgeport Village. It's a chain, and I had heard from friends and family that the prices were high for the food quality and quantity. So I was happily surprised when my friends and I went for happy hour and had a wonderful experience! This review is strictly for the happy hour menu, ambiance, and service, as I can't speak to their lunch or dinner menu. Food Service Ambiance This is probably one of the better happy hour menus I have tried anywhere for a very long time. It offers a LOT of different food and drinks at three price levels: $3, $6, and $9. The $9 food is supposed to be the same portion as the regular menu but at a lower price, whereas the $3 and $6 happy hour food items are smaller portions than the regular lunch and dinner menu. Here's what we ordered: * Chicken Satay (one skewer) $3 * Kona Sliders (two) $6 * Macadamia Popcorn Chicken $6 * Potstickers (three) $6 * BBQ Chicken Flatbread $6 * Chicken and Shrimp Lettuce Wraps $9 * Avocado Egg Roll $9 * Butter Cake (off regular dessert menu) We also enjoyed some cocktails and wine from the happy hour menu. The skinny margarita was fine -- not amazing -- but I did enjoy their house Pinot Noir. Hits: the Kona Sliders, BBQ Chicken Flatbread, and the Avocado Egg Roll were our faves. Flavorful, nicely cooked, and perfect to share. The chicken satay was dry, flavorless, and only had a small swoosh of peanut sauce. It really needs a full little cup of peanut sauce for dipping. The chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps had a nice flavor and we liked that they were served with bibb lettuce, but the filling was dry. The Macadamia Popcorn Chicken was tasty, but my friends didn't find the macadamia nut flavor to come through enough. I thought they were tasty and I could taste the macadamia nut, so if you like popcorn chicken, I say give it a try. I like the dipping sauce for this one too. The Avocado Egg Roll came with a super delicious dipping sauce. Bottle that stuff - we loved this dish! Perhaps the best part of our happy hour experience was the service. TERRON was the best! We also had a couple of managers stop by, and different servers dropping off food -- everyone was super friendly and helpful. If you've been here before through previous restaurant iterations, the ambiance will feel familiar. I'd say it's a fun spot for a night out with friends, which would probably describe most of the diners around us. It would also be a fun date night spot. The place is lively and loud, so if you're looking for a quiet, romantic spot, Kona Grill probably isn't your best bet. But I love it for happy hour and will definitely be back! read more

We decided to try out this spot at Bridgeport Village. The venue is beautiful -loved the vibe it was exuding. A lively and beautiful place. I absolutely loved the interior colors and art. A big bonus are the private areas. The smaller spot would be ideal for a happy hour get together or a girl's night out. I think it would be excellent for families with toddlers. There is also a great outdoor area with a fireplace and a soon to be opened rooftop space. The service was excellent we were greeted in a friendly manner and our waitress who just started her job was attentive and personable. We opted for their lunch special. My favorite parts were the soup and brownie. My chicken sandwich was not as good as it could have been. It was not crispy and the tops of my bun were cold. The fries were great. Nice to have a new restaurant in Bridgeport Village. We went the second week they were open so understandably the staff was quite new to the menu. For those of us that were familiar with Kona Grill in Hawaii the menu is a bit of a let down. No fish tacos and not many fish options except for a lot of sushi. Not many gluten free options besides the cilantro line chicken which my celiac husband had. He enjoyed it, but would have preferred fish tacos. I had the happy hour shrimp tacos which were delicious. We shared the house salad. Note that only their chipotle salad dressing is GF. They were able to find balsamic vinegar and olive oil for us as I'm not a fan of chipotle. The staff were very friendly and eager to please. I liked the decor, but it's not much changed from the previous Twigs restaurant. read more

I was actually shocked to see any good and great reviews here... genuine shock. I have two 'good' things - they have these lit steam producing things in the restaurant which look like flames and that was different and cool looking. Also, our server was AMAZING to the point I was so sorry for him working here. I go to a variety of places and am out all the time. I used to work near here and have been in the mortgage industry. Many of the restaurants in this area are set for the ... messy people who just want strong drinks and think stale nachos are quality eats... and, seriously, that's fine but I try to avoid those restaurants. I'd see something somewhere about this and my attraction was the diverse menu and late hours. This time of the year is show heavy downtown and I save Monday nights for the symphony. A friend and I decided to get a bite but Mondays are rough as it is 930pm and everything shuts down at 10 or sooner, if they are even open on Monday nights. She suggested this saying, hay, how about that seafood spot. I then mentioned I was craving prime rib and it was on their menu. I was annoyed trying to navigate their ridiculous online presence which felt like I was trying to do some insane online game. When we got out of the car, my friend and I are nearly blasted back into the car by the insanely aggressive cover of a Kenny Loggins song nobody asked for. The music through our visit was this the whole time. You ever go to a 'party' where it really isn't a party and just feels awkward? That IS this restaurant. There were a few people, like 2...but the music was screaming... so was the décor with very awkward tables. The tables had that feeling like a classroom - it was weird and then I was looking at the artwork in horror. It looked like generically generated AI art ..a pair of high heels? Everything about this screamed LEAVE... but here we are. And then we ordered... Prime rib... but I do not want the horseradish or all this spicy stuff you are saying comes with it. I get asked if it is ok to include the 'guava butter'...huh? Um, sure.... but prime rib? He asked a few times to verify I want it RARE...yes.... And then it arrives and I had no words because I was so confused thinking that I accidently ordered RIB EYE and not PRIME RIB because I was looking at a steak... like I don't want to tell your chef that is not the right meat cut but I am exhausted and then I take a small bite to confirm it is WELL DONE... I sent it back and I NEVER send food back...he offered to have it redone saying that the chef says it is hard to cook steaks that thin rare... ...noooooo seriously, your chef does not even know what he IS cooking because that IS NOT PRIME RIB. I ordered yellowtail sushi and a crab crunch roll figuring let's go with something uncooked. For $15 I got overcooked rice not well packed with ridiculously thin pieces of yellowtail - one was torn. Given I know where to get sashimi so good it will make you cry for half this price but wow... thankfully the crab roll was $9 for happy hour because it is fake crab and for people who want to drink eel sauce {and hay... its cool if that's you!}. Even just the presentation of the food was horrific. For the amount of money they have these items set for? It was hard to take pictures because the food did not even look good. The saving grace was our very sweet server gifting us some of their butter cake which was actually not bad and was the only thing I received which did not look like it was just tossed on the plate. The prices here are SHOCKING.... I have so many places with food that is incredible and so much less. It was Hawai'i themed but far from any connection to Hawai'i. (From a Native Hawaiian) The menu is large and expansive. The service was good, and the waiter was kind and attentive. The Food: The only appetizer I really enjoyed was the Meatballs! Super solid! The only other concern I have is that the waiter mentioned they are a steakhouse, and that's their specialty. They only have 3 cuts of steak on the menu. But what really kills this is that the steak was nothing special. The first steak that came out was almost well done. I ordered medium rare. We went to the Mother's Day brunch. First the prices never listed until a couple of hours before and nobody answered the phones to tell you the answer. Food: several things came out burnt and overcooked. The bacon was the only thing cooked correctly. Of course the watermelon and mimosas and drinks were had were good. My two children age 6 were charged $29 dollars each. They didn't have a price listed for children for brunch or an age that would be charged. We decided to sit inside since it was a lot cooler and pretty empty inside. Basically-- there were less than 5 tables being occupied inside, and all our food took an incredibly long time to come out after ordering. Some of us got some things off the lunch menu which included an appetizer. Some ordered the miso soup and since they did not have lemongrass clam chowder, i opted for the asian salad. When both apps came out, the miso soup color looked very displeasing. First off, it was green which isn't a normal miso paste color at all and just tasted like seaweed water. No flavor whatsoever. I got my asian salad which didn't look fresh at all after waiting more than 10 minutes for it already. On top of that, there was nothing asian about it, except the crumbs of raw instant ramen on top, which I felt was almost lightweight racist? There were so many different ways to make an asian salad for example, mandarin slices with wontons crisps, a sesame dressing etc. but it just felt like a prepackaged bag of salad that was also brown around the edges and they just sprinkled raw instant noodles crumbs on top to make it "asian". I deff felt some type of way about that, but I didn't bring it up at the end of the day because that's too much critique to do when we're just trying to have a meal. read more

I don't often feel compelled to write a review, but here goes... My wife, mother-in-law and I received free appetizers thanks to signing up for the new rewards program at Benihana. Seeing as they would expire soon, we decided to go in for a mid afternoon snack. Nothing in the terms of the free offer indicated a requirement to purchase any food or beverages. When we arrived to the mostly empty restaurant, we were fairly promptly greeted by the host. However it took him several minutes to prepare the table for our party (3 adults and 3 kids) and return to get us seated. A bit odd, but ah well. Once we were seated, it took nearly 10 minutes for our server to arrive and ask us for our drink order. We declined drinks but asked for water, and proceeded to order our appetizers. We indicated at this time that we had coupons for free apps. The server seemed a bit miffed that we only ordered apps. It took another five minutes for our water to arrive. When giving us the water, the server asked rather pointedly if we planned to order entrees. We said we would wait and see how we felt, but at this point the kids were getting antsy. The food took quite some time to arrive (at least another 10 minutes) and was rather underwhelming and small portions when it came. Considering each app is normally priced at $21, I expected the food to either be more generously portioned, or taste amazing. Not so. The six potstickers were no better than what I cooked get from frozen food at Costco and the avocado egg rolls felt soggy. The chicken satay was decent, but could be had for a third the price at nearly any Thai restaurant nearby. The server again asked us what our entrees would be, at which point I replied that we felt like it was time for us to go. She said that the promo required purchase of entrees. I politely challenged this, stating that Benihana had specifically said that entree purchases were not required. To her credit, the server agreed to check with the manager (of course this took some additional time) and when she returned was able to process the promo for us. We tipped based on the original cost of the food. Long story short: slow service, mediocre food, and what would have been very expensive food if we didn't have the promo or if we had ordered entrees. Kona Grill saved Christmas eve. With a young puppy with separation anxiety, there aren't many places I can go. That includes the family Christmas eve dinner. This didn't come as a surprise, but it was a shame to miss out on the potluck... or so I thought. Then, I found out about Kona Grill's special Christmas eve menu. On the special menu, choices included a glazed ham dinner, a traditional turkey dinner with the fixings, or, my personal pick, a 10oz ribeye with togarashi jus and miso mashed potatoes. Add in a Doordash order with a generous tip, and Christmas eve was back on for me and the pup! After just two bites of the steak and potatoes, I was already trying to figure out how to ditch the family next year (or talk them in to breaking tradition for a trip to Kona Grill). The steak was seared to a perfect medium-rare, and the potatoes went so far above perfectly creamy -- the hint of savory miso just brought the whole dish together. This was one of the best meals of my life. Pricey, yes, but for such an incredibly flavorful (yet not overwhelming) dish, a $48 price tag was well worth it. Yes, I can find gripes. A vegetable on the plate would have been nice. A bit more care in the packaging, sure. I'd still order that steak again without any hesitation, and so this is a clear 5 stars. Visited Kona Grill in time to catch their happy hour after shopping in the Bridgeport area. You immediately note the great outdoor space and valet set up for dinner guests. There is plenty of room inside with many smaller sized tables that can be combined for larger groups. An expansive bar with a few TVs for sports lovers. A DJ booth and private dining area make it an interesting venue for larger parties. The service was excellent and I'd rate the food a 3.5. Great menu but nothing that stood out as my favorite. A small national chain restaurant with an identity crisis charging high end prices for decidedly hit or miss dishes of varied quality. First the good--the Bridgeport location is an ideal location and the interior is modern, bright and appealing. The service has also been friendly and attentive in the two occasions we have visited (once for lunch and once for dinner). With the name Kona Grill, I'm thinking barbecue pork, Poke, spam musubi and other unique fare from our 50th state. Instead, the startlingly expansive menu (everything from clam chowder to tacos, sushi rolls and burgers) seemingly attempts to appeal to the largest common denominator but not really doing any one type of food really well. To be fair, certain dishes like the Macadamia Nut Chicken (which does give a nod to Hawaii) and the Lemon Garlic Penne were quite good. Some appetizers were also solid (KG Sliders, Avocado Eggrolls), but were ridiculously overpriced at $25-30 each. (Note: certain small bites can be had during KG's weekday happy hour at much more reasonable rates). Some of the actual entrees we ordered had weird flavor profiles like a crab stuffed salmon with a strong dill sauce paired with steamed broccoli and fried rice with Indian spices and chutney. Just odd. The sushi rolls we had were average at best with fish of questionable freshness and quality--this was disappointing when charged $25-35 for a single roll. Desserts were solid, but not exceptional. In summary, this place could use a simplification of its menu to focus on a narrower fusion of cuisine (ideally inspired by Hawaii) and really improve on quality for a better value. In this economy, KG could do much better. While there is certainly room for improvement, there were enough positives here to recommend to families or groups of people who can't agree on a certain type of food (and are cool with paying up to twice as much for apps and entrees). As you walk in it has a great ambiance with plenty of seating. (Parking at Bridgeport is a bear though). Upfront I will say I don't have the "gotta come back" feeling. Here is why... Service was spotty and disorganized. Food was fair to good but not great. The "happy hour" prime rib was mushy as if they over cooked the poor little 3oz piece of meat in a Sous Vide. The filling in the lettuce wraps was good but they used butter lettuce which is too soft, doesn't hold up well when filled and no crispness you expect. The Chicken Pad Thai was a disappointment as the meat was dry and overcooked. Desserts were okay but at $15 each you want to be wowed although the carrot cake was the best of the four that were ordered. Overall, the tab (without alcohol) came to $150 plus tip for four -at happy hour prices for the most part. (The manager did remove $9 for the overcooked meat.) So not very impressed overall. I stopped by here before going to see a movie and it's self seat at the bar! The bartender was really nice and friendly and that's always a plus! I came during happy hour and ordered a Moscow Mule and the NY steak Frittes! The steak was cooked to my liking and the fries were pretty decent! We ordered sushi, salad special, friend rice with chicken and an order nigiri yellow tail. To get to the point. Low quality ingredients. Chicken was gross, salmon looked like it had food coloring in it and did not taste right, there was something up with the sushi rice. Slow service. The place was pretty empty and it took forever to get our food. Dirty bathrooms. Very dusty. Not good for a place serving raw fish. Wait staff very nice. The food quality/taste was not good. The Pad Tai noodles were gummy. The sea bass fried fish (fish and chips) did have much taste, just very salty. I didn't like the batter, the texture was just this hard coating and it was barely warm when served. read more

Met a friend at newly opened Kona Grill in Bridgeport for Happy Hour. We didn't order any dinner entrees - just stuck with a few items off the HH menu. We ordered the chicken satay, lettuce wraps, potstickers and sushi roll crab crunch. Pretty good price points! I'd say the hit was the sushi roll. The other items were good but not amazing. The potstickers were cooked a little under, I was missing the crispy bits when cooked longer. The chicken satay was good but needed more peanut sauce served on the side. The bib lettuce was really nice touch for the lettuce wrap but the meat itself was a bit dry. I will come back to try either their lunch or dinner options. The service was really amazing - they got that right. The interior is really nice and the bar and tv were great too. read more

Food is expensive for its quality and quantity. 4 pieces of avocado was $20, which is a ridiculous price. Service was below average. Asked multiple times for ketchup for our fries and it finally came after the third ask. Didn't get a refill on water. Ambiance was causal. Overall, not a good experience and wouldn't come back. Happy Hour is fantastic. $3, $6, and $9 menu options. $6 Margarita is good, but pay a little more for a call tequila to stretch that smile. Behind the bar there is Kristy, Brittany, and Chelsea who are ready and willing to make that well made stiff cocktail for you. I just want to start off by saying the staff was very friendly and the environment was phenomenal. It's a very unique place that will for sure stand out in Bridgeport. The food wasn't too bad, my Mom did mention the pad Thai was a bit salty but other than that we all felt the food was decent. Now the reason it is 4 stars for the review is the place is a bit too pricey for what it is. Still, I think this place is perfect for date nights, hanging out with friends or even just a casual night out. Overall pleased with the experience. read more

This place the definition of cultural appropriation. Using the name and likeness of Hawai'i and its culture but not having any ties or even offering Hawaiian food. Sure they have some version of a loco moco on their menu but loco moco is local food not Hawaiian food. It's mostly American food with some Asian influence. Everything is over priced. The meal I had was decent but I went with the classic eggs Benedict which was good but again will not be back due to prices and lack of cultural respect. read more
