It has been over 15 years since I've dined here - I celebrated my birthday at Kona Grill and ordered the sea bass. I remember it being delicious. Fast forward to now, we were in the area so decided to have lunch here. We ordered the sea bass and ribs. It wasn't busy but it took awhile for our lunch to come out. The sea bass was completely raw. We called our waiter over and she took the dish back like she was clearing a dirty dish from our table. No sorry no reaction as if this happens all of the time. The ribs were good but the slaw didn't taste fresh at all. The plating was poor as there were about 6 brussels sprouts hidden underneath the ribs. The sprouts were good though. A new sea bass came out and it was nice and flaky. However, the bok choy was not washed thoroughly. Each bite I could hear sand/ soil. Not good. read more

Ordered the Macadamia Nut Chicken at the waitress's recommendation. I love potatoes in all their forms and was excited to try the 'miso mashed potatoes' as I'd never had them before. They came out hard. HARD as a hockey puck. I could tap my knife on them and *feel* a reverb. Never experienced anything like it in my life and I can't imagine how long they had to sit to solidify like that? The chicken itself was okay, just a crispy patty thing reminiscent of school lunch. I did enjoy the creamy sauce and the green beans. Also got the asian salad, a side of Brussels sprouts and a side of mac n cheese. Those were all good. My brother ordered a drink and it never arrived. The waitress started nice, but she got a liiiitle flustered as the night went on. Additionally there were some really LOUD, cursing, explicit men at the bar. They even started talking to us from the bar. Other patrons were visibly disturbed by them. We celebrated our 8th Wedding Anniversary and had the wonderful Haley as our waitress!!! She helped me decide between 2 dishes and was honest which I appreciate! We love this place. We eat at Kona a couple times a month. Always good food and great service.

My experience has been 90% carry out. Based on that, my communication with the staff and online ordering has been always been smooth and pleasant. That being said, compared to other restaurants in the area, I regularly am missing sauces and utensils in my bag and when I order, which is frustrating. I have found that some of the recent changes to the menu (lunch), has been challenging to me. They seem to have reduced salad options. I know that is part of the food biz - changes , but still - not digging it. Again, this review is looking at KG primarily as a lunch carry out spot. I stick with traditional non-sea food and I am looking for a little more flare in the flavor. None of this has or will stop me from coming back, I keep hoping KG will surprise me one day, not come in on just the average to above average scale. Perfect place for a girl's night, date night, or after work get together. Came to Kona on a Friday night for a girl's night, particularly for their Happy Hour specials. I was impressed that you could make reservations. I also noticed that you can sit anywhere in the place to get happy hour - pre-Rona you could not sit inside the restaurant and order off the happy hour menu. The covered patio is awesome - plenty of seating and it being covered is even better for inclement weather. Staff were all wearing masks and the hostess stand had a plexiglass barrier. Paper menus were provided in addition to a QR Code on the table. The Happy Hour menu is impressive - both food and drink wise. You can easily spend $40-$70 per person with drinks/food, so the Happy Hour menu helps with the priceyness of the place. Food options include a good mix of sliders, sushi, and apps. Drink wise there is a good selection from sake to margaritas to wine. Waitress was friendly but had to beg for happy hour since she came to our table to take our order at 603p (happy hour ends at 600p). We were waiting for her to come back to our table for about 10-15 minutes pre-happy hour time. Thankfully, she was able to give us the happy hour price for the food we ordered. Another staff member was re-filling our waters and clearing our table. Service felt slow but I was amongst friends, so I didn't mind the slow pace. Drink wise I went with the watermelon margarita and up charged the tequila - the drink was refreshing. Food wise I ordered the pot stickers, Kona sliders, avocado egg rolls, and crab crunch roll. The pot stickers were meh - they used chicken rather than pork and they were very small - not worth the price. Everything else was delicious. The Kona sliders were cooked perfectly and had good flavor. The crab crunch roll was great and so nice to see real crab being used and not krab. My favorite was the avocado egg rolls - I never met an avocado I didn't like and it being deep fried was an added layer of delicious. Creamy and gooey in the middle and crunchy outside - yum! If you're not a fan of sushi, surprisingly, this is the place for you! I know that Kona Grill mainly specializes in many different kinds of sushi rolls, however, if you're like me and aren't a fan of sushi, you can still get some great food here that fits your tastes! We were on a bit of a time crunch, so we let our server know the circumstances and she did a great job accommodating with some pretty speedy service throughout our drinks, appetizers, and entrees. I ordered the tomato basil bisque to start. It came out incredibly quick, was pretty hot, and quite tasty. I would expect this kind of soup at an Italian place or something like that, but I found some great bisque at Kona! My entree was the Kona Stir Fry. It consisted of chicken, carrot, cabbage, cilantro, sweet hoisin, chili-garlic sauce, sesame, jasmine rice. As you can imagine, with all of those ingredients, it was pretty tasty. Initially, I was worried that I wouldn't finish it all and would have to leave it in the car the rest of the night. However, I inhaled it pretty quickly because it was so great. Kona still has a great happy hour! Starts at 2p weekdays. We ordered from the happy hour menu: avocado rolls, spicy tuna roll and poke bowl. It's only tuna on the happy hour poke. Surprisingly the poke was also spicy (pictured). For dinner, we shared the Picasso roll (pictured). We ordered the kids bento box for our 15 month old (pictured). It was so cute! The kids bento we chose was Coconut shrimp, fries, green beans, milk, a cute orange bear and a brownie sundae all for $9! Next time we'll dine in the covered patio area. Mother's Day Brunch? NEVER again. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation due to things being "overbooked"; which to me looked to be an excuse for a slow kitchen and poor service. Food came out an hour and 20 minutes after we put in our order and the food was not only average at best, but room temperature. The portions for their family style offerings were little. Drinks were just okay. Restaurant music was way too loud. We were considering going this week for the first time since Covid started but the menu online shows everything has significant price increase. It's now 27 dollars for the Macadamia Nut Chicken (used to be low 20s) WITHOUT bread, soup, or salad. Also the appetizers are getting outrageous!
