Him and I are not Latin we don't speak any other language but English. When we walked in, there was quite a few tables open but they sat us closest to the bathroom after standing for almost 5min. then when she sat us down and brought us menus she went and served the other people who walked in after us first. We waited about 10min and no one brought us water or anything!! But the people who walked in after us were putting their orders in. She stopped at almost every table except ours. Konakai is tucked in an unassuming Plaza next to a movie theater. I arrived before the doors were opened an patiently waited...really who am I kidding. I check the time every few minutes in anticipation of the doors opening. We walked into the small but quaint restaurant to begin our gastronomic journey. The appetizer was tasty, smooth and delicious. Exactly what I was hoping to taste. The main courses were okay, no burst in your mouth fabulousness. I ordered one of the fish dishes, the server quoted a price of $19.00. To my surprise I was billed over $30.00 for the dish and received a soppy sad apology from the server for his mistake. Unfortunately, I was stuck having to pay the higher price. Hmm, I have this nagging feeling, the person who referred this restaurant must be related to the owner. I said a silent pray hoping for good "Chicha" (not sure how to spell it) the famous and delicious Peruvian drink. It was warered down and disappointing. Everything about our meal was perfect. I am the king of the picky eaters, and I loved everything we ordered. My wife and I shared the Ceviche Classico. I ate only the fish, and the taste was fantastic. Next, we shared their Special Fried Rice. It was a huge portion, good enough and big enough alone as a meal, and it rivaled any other fried rice I have eaten. For our entrees, I had Limon Kay, fried chicken pieces in a lemon sauce, and it was to die for. My wife had the Pescado a lo Macho, which was a fish dish with various seafood on top. I tried a bit of almost everything and enjoyed it all. Maybe too much as I am beyond full, but it was completely worth it. Easily one of the best local restaurants I have found. This place is amazing! I was born in Peru and my family is from Iquitos so I know how the food should taste. I've been here multiple times and they've always had great service and the food is perfect on all levels, traditional and also asian inspired chifa from the north east of Peru, so delicious! Konakai is a delight ! The papas ah la Huancaina were creamy and delicious. They taste good when you scoop a piece of lettuce and the papa and of course the creamy sauce. The Pescado ah lo Macho was incredible, it had calamari, shrimp, mussels and fried fish filet of which each bite was a delight. This is my new favorite Peruvian restaurant to come to! The service is great and the food is delicious! The prices are comparable to other Peruvian restaurants in the area and they make good portion size Their fish ceviche in the aji Amarillo sauce is my favorite!! The fish is tender and the sauce is so good! The lomo saltado with the huancaina pasta is also amazing! My husband, who is Peruvian, got the pescado a lo macho, which is a fried fish in a creamy seafood sauce and said it was the best that he has had. They are also one of the only places around that serve Chifa, which is Peruvian Chinese food, which is also delicious. Their lo mein tastes better to me than Chinese restaurants around here that I have tried. If you're looking for good Peruvian food I would definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

I don't know how I haven't learned my lesson with this place yet. The food is the only thing good about the restaurant. The service is absolutely horrible. On multiple occasion I've gone with my family and they will forget half of our orders. Once, everyone at my table got their food except for me. I was being patient as I saw they were a little busy. I started to get annoyed when all the tables around us got their food, the funny part was that the lady sitting at the table next to us got the same plate I did and she got her food but I never did. When I told the waiter about this she said she would go check on it, came back and told me it would be a few more mins. At this point everyone at my table had finished their food so I asked the waiter if she could just put it to go. I truly don't know how complicated that could be, 15 mins pas by and she picks up all the plates. I ask for my food and she said with a surprised face "you didn't get it yet?" I said Nope. At this point I just told her to forget about it, I didn't want the plate and I didn't want to be charged for it. She then told me that the plate was ready but it got mixed in with the "to go orders". Today I decided to give them another go. To make it easier I called the restaurant to place an order. They answered quick but asked me to hold. THEY HAVE ME ON HOLD FOR 30 mins and still counting because they still haven't picked up the phone again to actually take my order. Im literally just staying on the phone at this point to see how long they actually take. In this process I have already ordered food elsewhere. This is all completely unbelievable. I was surprised that they didn't bring Canchita to my table when we sat down, but i guess it's just one of those restaurant they don't do. We ordered chicha morada to start With appetizers. I had yuca a la Huancaina and accompanied by anticuchos. The huancaina sauce was OK, it was more on the mayoni side, didn't have the a spice to it. The anticuchos were really good, flavorful and tender. I had the ceviche mixto and my friend had Tallarines Verdes with Steak. My ceviche was incredible, very nice display to it as well. To begin with, the place is small. Maybe 12 tables at max. The food was ok, maybe I'm a tough critic but I wasn't phased. The purple corn drink sorta taste like sorrel. Spongy steak and super soggy soft pasta. Maybe it was intentional eat this way. The Passion Fruit Cheesecake was amazing I must say. My only complaint are the prices for ceviche and portion sizes, compared to a nearby Peruvian restaurant that's also very good with lower prices and larger portions. For some reason whenever I try a new Peruvian restaurant I usually order seafood Chaufa (fried rice) and this actually the first place in Broward that I've tried and serves seafood chaufa with octopus crispy, well cooked and full of flavor. 1st very happy timers. I heard about Konakai long time ago and from a lot of people but finally we went there and ate like kings. Food was very tasty. This restaurant has a extended menu: peruvian-chinese, seafood, and peruvian-jungle style food. We ordered several plates, all of them under the chinese-peruvian style and the seafood style. Everything was very tasty and in big portions. Customer service from Paolo and Stefany was awesome. We had great time and enjoy the good food. We will definitely go back. read more

Ok let me start of by saying the food was def NOT worth the price. I'm a Hispanic woman who cooks very well and know a lot about our Latin flavors. I eat out a lot and looooveee all Spanish food from Cuban, Dominican, Peruvian, Colombian, Mexican etc. Second, when the lady cashed me out she wanted no less than 18% tip on a takeout order, as we didn't sit down to eat due to covid19. It has affected us all and I tried to support by at least ordering takeout. The "pescado a lo macho" was just ok but very bland. The "shrimp fried rice" was horrible in taste, didn't even taste fresh. The "tallarin saltado" was the only dish I can say tasted somewhat decent in flavor, except that the noodles were overcooked, stuck together, and paste like consistency. The "tacu tacu con pollo" we both took one bite and it went straight to the trash. If you want some authentic Peruvian food I would recommend La Panza in Boca Raton or Pachamanka in Hollywood Bch. The Peruvian food offered is more of a Japanese fusion with some classics. It is a little pricey but the food is fresh tasty and consistent. Being a Peruvian, I love finding Peruvian restaurants especially when the food hits home. In my opinion, some of the best Peruvian in Sunrise. The chaufa is delicious, the lomo saltado is great and my personal favorite, the lomo a la huancaina, is even better. Had a couple incidents where the service was meh (only like once or twice) but we always come back cause overall, the experience is always super pleasant.
