We happened to be in the area and ran across this gem. We started with the ceviche. It was absolute perfectly seasoned. Next we stumbled on lunch specials. We each tried a different one. We had the limo saltado and churrasco with fettuccine pesto. They also give you a cup of delicious chicken soup or a small salad. Our only regret is we had no more room for more food. Paolo was our server and he was very attentive and professional. The furnishings and decor are very upscale. We will definitely be back. Came back here with my Friday crew! Called ahead for a party of 13, our waitress Sara even with limited English got our orders pretty quickly. Ordered the Tallarines Verdes Com Churrasco from Lunch specials. Came with a choice of soup or salad. I chose the soup, which was a chicken and vegetable soup. Got delivery through Grubhub. Ordered the Tacu Tacu con Lomo Saltado and a Leche de Tigre ceviche. Unfortunately their packaging was not great and broth from the food spilled inside the plastic bag. This meant that there was no liquid in the ceviche itself and no meat juice from the lomo to mix with the Tacu Tacu (which was bland btw). I came here with my team from work just as the restaurant opened. This place is casual and good for groups during lunch time. My only issue when I visited was that I noticed that the waitress didn't really give us the time of day if we didn't speak Spanish. She would just either ignore what you said or tell you "I have no idea what you're saying" and walk away. I think a little patience on both sides would've made the experience better but there was slight tension and it was a bit hectic. I ordered the Tallarin Salgado Criollo de Pollo ($9.99) from the lunch menu, which comes with a choice of soup or salad. I got the soup. The flavors here are impeccable. This is where most of the stars are coming from. I've never really had Peruvian food and this was a great introduction. I'm on the lookout for more restaurants. Also our group was given a complimentary flan and that was thoughtful. Always a pleasure visiting this place. This time we went there with large group on a Friday. Called ahead and Sara our waitress had pre-arranged our table setup beforehand. I wasn't crowded at the time so that was nice. She was very thorough and quick with the ordering and brought everyone water right away. Decent Peruvian food but room for improvement. This is a no bells and whistles Cafe on the corner of a plaza that's been slowly dying for years. The Sunday afternoon my mom and I came to Konakai, they had no AC inside the restaurant so it was stuffy and hot. They had fans running but it didn't really help. The dining room was full though. The staff was working hard to keep up with the amount of takeout orders and guests dining in. The waiter who served us was very nice. We came in for the fried whole fish and my mom was very excited to try it. However, it was a little over fried and dry. Not sure if it's just red snapper meat is a bit tougher to begin with. The ceviche was very fresh and tasted great. It wa refreshing and light. Came was a plantain chip, some corn and lots of marinated red onions. Between my mom's dish and mine I think I ate half a whole onion! Overall the food was decent and I'll come back to try other dishes. Hopefully by then, there will be AC again. read more

The food was excellent . The service was beyond horrible. I'm not bashing on servers, though. It's a tough job. There were 2 servers and 2 tables occupied. The server spent more time talking with her coworkers and eating than providing excellent service. I had to interrupt her while she was eating and talking to a coworker to open my wine and when she uncorked the bottle she did not pour it into the glasses. I had to approach the cashier counter for her to pour water at our table. She did not serve the soup instead she left the ladle and bowls for us to do. She forgot to bring soda and a side entree and charged us. She never came to the table to ask "Is there anything else I can bring you?"Check in on the quality of food and ask about refills, and other supplementary items. I won't even get into how long it took her to greet us and take our order. "She" never introduced herself! I felt as though my presence was a imposition . I had to ask for a desert menu, never was it offered. Konakai is a totally legit full-service Peruvian restaurant which has a menu focus on Chifa cuisine, which is the adapted form of Chinese food that has developed in Lima over the last century with immigration from all parts of Asia. I did not get to try the Chifa stuff (the fried rice, the noodles, the wok dishes) because it was just my wife and myself ordering and we low carb it. However based on the smells (omg) and what I saw landing at the other tables they looked really good, so I plan to invite a few other couples so I can at least taste them. Cancha, the ubiquitous fried corn snack that is complimentary was really good, nice and crunchy and light, we got through two small bowls before we had to force ourselves to stop eating them. My wife did order an egg roll which is clearly made in house, and it had a lot more meat in it than a typical Chinese-am one, with a very crispy wrapper and served with a sweet and sour sauce which I thought was kind of cloying so I skipped it and I feel it didn't need it since it was seasoned nicely. Definitely recommended. For my appetizer I got the Leche de Tigre which is a martini sized order of fish ceviche in a spicy rocoto pepper lime juice. No it doesn't have milk, it means Tiger Milk in Spanish. I would say try it the way it is first before amping it up with more rocoto pepper sauce which they will give you if you want. It's very good and is the right size if you just want something small to start out with. Main dish we got a pariguela which is similar to an Italian cioppino or a tomato based bouillabaisse. It has fish, mussels, shrimp and calamari in it and everything is cooked properly. Really good, I want to try the chupe de camarones next. We did try a Pisco sour although the restaurant is forced into using a pre-mixed product due to liquor licensing. They being said I thought it was pretty good, was nice and sour although a bit on the sweet side. Service was good and friendly and efficient, food came out pretty fast. They do have a specials list written on a board posted up towards the back of the restaurant so be sure to look at it first. I definitely want to come back and try more things. read more

It was a table of 20 and one of us asked for the password and the server responded , "we don't have WiFi" . Meanwhile , we saw 3 different networks on the WiFi . One of them even said , "I did you a favor because now you all just talk amongst each other"... WHAT?! Not a sly comment a server gives to a customer . Food was OK. Nothing different nor extraordinary from any other Peruvian restaurant I've been to. And it was VERY OVERY PRICED. Plates that I pay usually $20-$30 are being charged here $40-$50. Not worth the money. There's another Peruvian restaurant down the street from them called Saxsay that has better taste and WAY more reasonable prices. Will not be coming back here. read more

This was a nice surprise for the plaza! Swung by here after the movies for a quick dinner and was blown away by the food and service! First off, they make two awesome fresh juices here: chicha morada and passion fruit. I've only had chicha morada once before and it wasn't a pleasant experience as it had an aluminum aftertaste. The chicha morada here is nothing short of amazing as it's fresh! The aji ceviche we ordered had this wonderful spicy sauce that made me want to slather it in everything! Honestly, I've been to my fair share of Peruvian restaurants, my boyfriend and I are both Peruvian. Unfortunately, this place was not a good experience our first time. I called before coming to ask if they were playing the Peru vs Colombia game, and I was given a gentlemen to speak with, who informed me they do have the game. Fast forward to arriving at 4:30, and we were told to sit at the only open table which was dirty. No problem we can wait I'm a server, I understand. So 15 minutes past before the table was wiped down, and there were still areas that were sticky and dirty. Secondly, I asked for water from the lady manager, because we were waiting for 15 mins at the dirty table, and another 10 minutes for a server to greet us. During these 25 mins they were still looking for the channel for the game. My water had a lot of stuff floating inside. I asked for a new water and the manager stated "oh that's the water". Weird. So we switched tables since they got the game up, so we could watch, at a table that just became available. I had to flag down a server to order our drinks. And then waited longer to put our order in by a new server (Melissa). We both order lomo Saltado, the meat was great, the fries great, BUT the rice was so over cooked and mushy. It had a texture of puréed rice, like mash potatoes. I ask our server if we could get a new order of rice since both of ours was very over cooked, and she stated "oh it's all like that, and offered me a salad". Lomo is suppose to be with fries meat rice onions and tomatoes. Not that best experience, waiting was a while, stuff being in my water was gross, and the mushy rice kind of ruined the meal. And all during this time the game was frozen and they weren't trying to fix it, after telling us it would be playing. That's why I called earlier in the afternoon around 11/12 to avoid this issue. Spoke with the manager again explained everything and she offered dessert, but all we asked was for the rice to be taken off our ordered by discounting something we didn't get to eat. Searching for some delicious Peruvian cuisine, we found this little hidden gem. We were greeted as we walked in and sat immediately. As per typical Peruvian cuisine we were given the cancha which was salted perfectly and crunchy. It was gone in minutes! We ordered Maracuya and Coke for drinks. The waitress was a little hard to flag down but she did take our orderes immediately, we ordered the fettuccini a la huancaina con lomo and the jalea. The food was good the Jalea could have used more batter and it was fried a bit longer than it should have been, but it was still good! The hauncaina sauce was delicious and mixed well with the lomo. The food was good BUT the service is HORRIBLE. We arrived at 7:00 and didn't get our waters until 7:33. The table next to us got there after us and got their water before us. When we asked someone to come to the table to take our order the lady was so rude. She didn't say hi or anything just "what would you like". Outstanding Peruvian restaurant in Sunrise area. I rarely come out to this area so it was great to see Peruvian cuisine be well represented at Konakai. We had: Lomo saltado with tacu tacu Lomo saltado with white rice and french fries Pescado a la plancha Pollo enrollado con esparagos Our party absolutely loved their food. Small but nicely decorated and clean. They serve traditional Peruvian dishes plus typical Peruvian Chinese cuisine (Chifa). I only tried their chifa dishes: chicken chaufa and pollo tipa kay, and they were both very good. In particular I like the Tipa Kay dish which is made with a tamarind sauce. If you like sweet and sour food, this is a great option. They also have a selection of homemade hot sauces which complement any dish you are having, if you like a little spice in your food. As far as desserts, they have a lúcuma mouse served on top of a chocolate cake which is pretty good. Normally, you can only get lúcuma in a Peruvian restaurant. Finally, service was excellent.
