We had a few guests over and we decided to order from Koo Thai and I was so glad we selected this spot. We were able to try many different curries, cooked dishes and apps. I was very pleased with the dishes we selected and my guests were also very happy. Some of the notable dishes were the drunken noodles, green curry, red curry, tamarind dish with shrimp. We also tried the duck wrap and the summer roll in shrimp. What I really like is that with every dish you can select your protein. Highly recommend Koo Thai and we expect to order more from them in the future.

Very small space but a big menu. We got the lunch menu items and they were good portioned. The fried rice was a bit bland but the pad see ew was good. I would have loved some actual veggies in the dishes though (there was only a little bit of carrots):

Got a pickup order of pad see ew and jasmine milk bubble tea. The noodles were cooked well and had nice flavor, and even though the tofu was normal tofu wasn't the pre-fried kind with the starchy layer on the outside, it had great texture and was nicely fried. I also enjoyed the vegetables and egg. Good ingredient ratios! The jasmine tea had a strong jasmine flavor which was great! It was also not too sweet with the lower sugar setting I requested. The bubbles were a bit on the hard side but not docking a star because it was quite cold out and that's just what happens when cooked tapioca get chilled. :)

Delicious, cute as hell, and excellent service! We stopped in with a hankering for Thai and were greeted with awesome Halloween displays - cute tablecloths, dinnerware, and all things pumpkin and spooky! We knew right then we had made a good choice, and that before the food! Our server was excellent and super friendly, with a great big smile. She also handled the mix of people coming in for food pickup/delivery, ordering to go, and those of us eating in really smoothly. My friend had the spicy tofu kha prow and loved it. My other friend and I didn't try it, as mouthburningly spicy is not our jam. We shared the crispy pork larb salad and chicken pad see ew. GET THE CRISPY PORK! so good. So, so good. Loved the dressing on the larb - it complemented the crunchy crispy pork so well. The pad see ew was great too, with tons of chicken. I wish there had been more Chinese broccoli in it, but it had a really nice flavor and was a great big portion. Definitely go here and get great Thai! We were so hungry and the food was so good that I didn't take any pictures - my bad.

Hole-in-the-wall vibes, but that doesn't mean the flavors weren't exciting -- slightly different, bold, and pretty solid. Not my absolute favorite place, but I'd give it a solid eight. Bubble tea is still pretty killer. Prices are on the higher side for what it is, but overall, very much worth a visit if you're in the area.

Staying at the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Upper East Side, Koo Thai has quickly become my go-to for a quick, healthy, and flavorful meal. It's incredibly convenient to pop down and grab something satisfying. Tonight I had the gra prow (with rice on the side and a fried egg on top), and it was delicious. full of flavor with just the right amount of heat. I've tried several dishes here and everything has been consistently tasty and well-prepared. The ambiance is cozy and quaint ...a small, clean spot perfect for a casual meal. The young lady who works the register in the evenings is always so friendly and helpful, happily answering any questions when I want to try something new.

Can't give this place more than 1 star due to their customer service (see the owner's reply to my intitial review) The pineapple fried rice was void of pineapple- 5 small pieces. The owner replied you can add more for $2 extra. Shouldn't pineapple fried rice come w say, pineapple? Without an extra charge The spring rolls were SO BLAND they tasted worse than the frozen ones you get at the grocery store. The tea I ordered tasted ARTIFICIALLY sweetened. Like they used a non sugar sweetner.

Hidden gem on the upper east side. I didn't expect to find such an amazing take-out spot after stumbling upon this place purely by chance. The outside appearance is very unassuming and at first glance, the place seem to be only well-suited for bubble tea. But order any of their dishes and you'll be quite satisfied. Their selection is it large, but there's plenty of space and good flavor to remember this spot in a pretty competitive neighborhood for Asian food. I ordered the spicy eggplant Gra Pow and it was delicious! Came with plenty of vegetables and good spices. HIGHLY recommended.

    Caught me by surprise. :-)

A friend of mine from work told me about this place, Since I worked around the area I wanted to know what the commotion was about; I was amazed by the ambiance, for a small yet hidden restaurant it carried the vibe of any regular large spot around the way; The service was excellent, and I have to admit, I never had pineapple fried rice before but that with Crispy pork was the AMAZING. Not to mention boba Thai tea which was nicely chilled and made the way I like it; If it's not busy the person working behind the counter will go above and beyond to help when she can. If you are ever around 1st Avenue and need a nice small yet out-of-the-way Thai spot for good food, sweet drinks, and something nice and simple, check this place out; places like this are a diamond dozen and should get a lot of credit for providing for the customers.

Try: Chicken Wings, Shrimp Dumplings, and Duck Wrap. Why: Tasty appetizers, which I ordered as a dinner meal! I liked the Pad Thai flavored Chicken Wings. I also thought the Shrimp Dumplings and Duck Wrap were good. Notes: The Thai Iced Tea with Boba was ok. I didn't taste the rich, creamy, and sweetness I'd hope for. I still finished the entire cup to wash down the yummy food. I ordered via delivery, which seemed to have less items than the menu on their website. I look forward to trying their other Boba flavors. Nice to have a place on UES!

It's a really nice simple place to get yummy Thai food. Their boba's one of the best ones I've tried here in NYC and I've tried a bunch! I also like their lunch specials. It's $11 dollars only from Monday to Friday! Get their sweet sausage fried rice ! I also get their pad Krapow for dinner or weekends

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

I ordered "Plain Pho", which is described as just broth and noodles, no garnish or meat. After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused. The restaurant has an open-kitchen concept, which is nice because you can see the kitchen, but you can also feel the heat coming from it. With the front door left open, the summer heat was coming in as well, making it extremely hot inside. There were also quite a few flies circling around, which I'm assuming was partly due to the door being left open. That made the dining experience less comfortable, especially while eating. I would've given 5 stars for the food because it was delicious, but the heat, flies, and overall dining environment really took away from the experience. I'd definitely come back for the food, but I hope they find a better solution for keeping the restaurant cool and comfortable during the summer months.
