By far my favorite Indian Restaurant in Kansas City. I have been going to Korma Sutra for years when they were over on Metcalf. They are now in Lenexa in a roomier space with pretty much the same decor and wall painting. The food is fantastic and they shower you with samples and free things to try whenever you go in. My favorite is the vegetarian dinner for 2- I am not a vegetarian but in my opinion, the vegetable options are often most tasty for Indian food. The saag paneer is spot on gorgeous with generous hunks of paneer and the vegetable meatballs are delightful- they are a combination of paneer cheese and nuts ( I think cashews) in a tomato cream sauce. I usually opt for the medium spice and have a mango lassi nearby if it gets too hot! This set dinner comes with pappadams and chutney, lentil soup, naan, rice and vegetable samosas. The veggie samosas are superior to the chicken samosas in my opinion because the potatoes absorb all the aromatic herbs and spices and are palate pleasing! My kids always opt for the butter chicken and it is never disappointing! It is so much food that I have enough left over for lunch for at least 2 days! I am often full by the time the main course comes around. I personally love the service. The owners are 2 very interesting men with a great sense of humor. One of them usually has a balloon ties to his ear and he jokes around with the kids and customers. They are upbeat and I love how genuinely happy they are to be sharing their secret recipes with their loyal customers. I have heard some people complain that they are "weird" but I love it! They are joyful and kind and generous to be bringing out items that you didn't order to sample to expand your tastes. They clearly love what they do. I've been here for dinner a couple times but never with a lunch buffet. This trip I went with my son and daughter to the lunch buffet and the food quality was just as good as I remembered from my previous visits. The owner, who's been there the last couple times is crazy!!! ... But in a fun and respectful way. He greets you at the door, noting there's only three of us that walked in and always asks if there are five or six of us, he has a balloon attached to his ear and constantly walking around giving away more food. Everything I tried was delicious and fresh. The garlic bread, (I can't remember what it's actually called), is fantastic. This place is the real deal for Indian food. Just went there yesterday on Memorial Day. While I miss their buffet greatly (which I assume was gone due to covid), the food was still terrific, so rich in flavor. I like the timing of how each dish was brought to our table. Naan wasn't as fluffy as I remember and a little burned, but still very tasty (garlic naan). You just can't leave from there feeling hungry. The staff works very hard to please and attentive to customer needs. Always like that this place is open on major holidays when so many other restaurants are closed. This restaurant deserves all the hype that it gets and easily compares to great Indian restaurants in San Franciso and other destination cities. read more

We ate here while on vacation and it is the best Indian restaurant I've eaten at. Super nice staff and delicious meal. The owners was so nice! We were given complimentary drinks, appetizers, and desserts for the kids. When we paid, she gave me some hot tea for the road. She also gave the kids $1 bills with some written on it that I assume is for luck. I have never been to a restaurant that did that for us. Thank you for your hospitality! read more

I took three people who have never tried Indian cuisine. The owners brought samples of various appetizers, desserts, and naan for us to try. They also brought out, once we had our food, a sample of some coconut chicken curry I think it was. Every single thing we had tonight was delicious and I think we converted 3 people who had never tried it before to Indian food lovers. The experience was wonderful. They helped me show that dining there wasn't just get food and go. It was an experience with more emphasis on the social too. (Although if you prefer they also do takeout.) I got the lamb vindaloo. It was perfection. The lamb was so tender and the sauce with the potatoes was cooked perfectly with a great amount of heat that you can taste but doesn't overpower the dish. And the samosas were flaky, tender, savory and not at all oily. I recommend everyone get the veggie samosas. read more

Unbelievably great food and service! Came on a Monday during lunch, right now they don't have their buffet but offer ordering from the menu. Covid precautions are tables are apart while booths have a separator. Employees wearing masks and giving plastic utensils. I really loved the food, I got butter chicken and paneer tikka masala, and garlic naan. Everything was so delicious, my favorite was how soft the paneer was. We also got a lot of service such as sweet treats. The waitress and owner check on us to make sure we always had enough rice and naan. They won't stop feeding you here! Really, they keep bringing treats to your table long after you had your fill of delicious food. I'll agree with the other Yelpers, the owner makes this a fun place to eat. From the moment you walk in he's cracking jokes up to when he slips you a handful of deflated balloons at the end. The only issues I had were the language barriers with our server and the bill at the end. Still not sure what I all paid for and what was complimentary. But for about $20 per person you won't leave hungry and will have left overs for tomorrow. read more

We came right at the start of lunch buffet and although it wasn't busy yet, it did get busy quick. The buffet itself wasn't too many selections but the service I would say from the male host was superb. The other ladies on the other hand it seemed like they wanted us gone since we didn't finish my first dish before I was given the bill. Being my first time here I was surprised and very happy that the buffet offered Mango Lassi and Chai Tea as part of the lunch buffet. Initially I was bummed that I only got half a cup of Chai tea, but I was happy when the mug got refilled as I had my meal. There was Butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and a lamb dish. Then about 6 other vegetarian diahes. 2 dessert type items and some fruit. Garlic Nain was served on the table and also refilled along with water and Mango Lassi refills. 2 people ran about $24. When the meal is done we were offered a triangle cut of Pistachio ice cream on a toothpick and waitress foil wrapped leftover Naan and asked how many people wanted Chai Tea Togo. This is about the 3rd Indian buffet I've been to and was the 1st to offer things for take out when the buffet was over. A must try if you've never been. But don't expect a large meat selection of you are a carnivore. read more

Stopped by their new location for the lunch buffet special, which is only $13/person!! You guys, this great deal includes a fun greeting and treatment by the lively owner. I don't know how he has so much energy, but he's honestly part of the reason why I keep revisiting this restaurant, aside from the food! Such a fun man making your restaurant experience a million times better! They have a great selection on their buffet bar, including but not limited to rice, goat, various chicken dishes, various curry dishes, salad, fruit, dessert and more. I sampled a little bit of everything. Each dish is packed with flavor and pairs perfectly with the rice or fresh naan bread. The buffet also includes their cold mango lassi drink and finished with a nice warm cup of chai tea! Their new space is much more spacious, and service is speedy. We went to Korma Sutra for dinner since our favorite Indian restaurant doesn't offer dine-in options yet and we wanted good Indian food. We were first given some water and a complimentary appetizer. The young man who brought it to our table also brought a topping which, when we asked what it was, he simply said "sauce". A long while after we finished that appetizer a gentleman came to our table to take our order, and we ordered Veggie Pakora as an appetizer, Chicken Korma, Chicken Biriyani, and Onion and Garlic Naan. We prefer lightly-spiced food, so we ordered our chicken dishes "mild", to which the one who took our order stared at us and questioned our choice. He then left. We waited for a while for our Pakora. When it arrived it was tepid and dry, and obviously had been prepared ahead of time and was perhaps left under a heating lamp. The staff was milling around but did not come close to ask how we enjoyed it. We finished our Pakora and waited a very long time to finally get plates for our entrees. The plates we tossed onto the glass table loudly! We waited another while and finally our entrees were served. There were nice, large pieces of chicken breast in their respective sauces. At first taste we immediately realized that our food was not prepared "mild" as requested. It had NO seasoning at all! Since no one came to check on us, we ate what we could. The Naan was served with our meal and it was mostly good, except the bottom was partially burnt. We were also served an milky orange drink that was sour and sweet. To me it tasted lightly fermented. No one came to explain what it was. Then they served us a small complimentary bowl of rice pudding, which was good and refreshing, We were offered take-out containers to take our leftovers, which we accepted. Our server came to our table loudly saying: "No more food? No more food?", and we agreed. We expected our check would be forthcoming, but it was not. We finally went to the counter where the same man just quoted us the price (without an itemized check). We paid that amount and left. There was so much wrong at so many levels. Poor an inconsistent service, improperly prepared food, no "table touch", and simple disinterest in giving proper service. read more

Have been here twice with my family. This is a wholesome family-run business, the owner is super sweet and ensures that my kids are having a great time - he comes by and gives them balloons and sweet treats! Food is consistently great. Vegetable kofta had a bright creamy sauce with crunchy almonds, which are a great surprising addition. Butter chicken and chicken tikka masala are a family favorite, as is the gulab jamun. I've loved KS since they were off College and Metcalf; my first time was meeting my daughter for lunch. I couldn't believe how much fun the atmosphere was- like being at a family party! The buffet was great. I went a few more times, and then it closed. I had to find another place and there are a couple I've patronized over the years. Then- we had moved to Lenexa and I was scrolling on my phone, seeing what Indian places were nearby. I saw KS listed and assumed it was the old location in OP. On further investigation, I realized I lived just over a mile away! I thought I was dreaming!! Now I go there at least once or twice a month. Wish the lunch buffet was back, hopefully soon. I enjoy eating there and getting carry out. The food is always delicious, and the owners are always very hospitable! read more

It was our first Indian restaurant visit after moving from Nevada. We were greeted nicely. Served with appetizer (sabzi pakora and chutney) which was not fresh. Lady who was supposed to take order was busy receiving other customers, taking phone orders and taking orders from other dining customers, so naturally took more time for us to order then expected. Our order was Lamb biryani and lamb sheesh kabob with naan. Won't hesitate to say that it was the worst biryani I have had here in the US. Looked like gravy (that too not cooked in biryani masala) was mixed with white boiled rice and served, meat was tender though. Kabob were again not fresh and undesirable after the initial bite. They were nice (appreciate it) to serve "complementary butter chicken with white rice and mango lassi" which tasted better then what was originally ordered by us. Restaurant got busy as we were leaving and had to pay on the counter (which is not an issue). The lady didn't have our order receipt and asked us to remind her what we had and told us to pay x amount which was a little odd. Overall don't recommend if anyone really looking for authentic subcontinental cuisine. read more

Had Korma Sutra Korma, a specialty. Soooo good. Since it's off the menu, they ask how spicy you want it. Asked for medium. More that medium IMO, but in a good way. I don't think I could have handled "hot". I really hope the reintroduce the buffet at some point, but it's great anyway. read more

It's impossible to leave here and not be stuffed. Come in very hungry, with a big smile! Everything is great. Chicken, Lamb, Shrimp....Vindaloo, Marsala, Curry.....all my favorites. Goat is great here, too. Goat is gamey in general, but it's also bony. Very good, but be prepared for bones. (That's normal everywhere) Garlic Naan is our personal favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of them. The garlic and onion is a tad sweet (from the red onions). Beverages: BEST CHI TEA! Taj Mahal beer is a large bottle and complements anything you get. Perfect for 2. I don't like mangos, but the Lassi is great. Don't know what all they do to their water, but it's great crisp and fresh. Apps and tiny (but filling!!)desserts will automagically arrive at your table before and after your meal. The owner is always here, and ready to make your visit exceptional. We live 3 1/2 hours away, and have come up here just to eat here...it is that good. This is my husband and I's favorite restaurant of anywhere we've eaten in the world. We travel frequently. It's the best Indian food we've ever had, and exceedingly better than any Indian we've had in NYC, Oklahoma, and Kansas. (We've thoroughly tried everything Indian in these areas!) Hope you enjoy. People love love love this place but it's hard to overlook the things they do poorly. Some dishes just don't meet the standard set by great Indian restaurants everywhere. I'm not a fan of buffets and this one is no different. Still, it allowed me to sample a variety of dishes during my first visit. Most of the chicken dishes don't work because the chicken isn't well prepared. Overcooked. Perhaps the type of chicken isn't right. Yet, take the butter chicken sauce and put it on paneer...instant mouth party. The biriyani doesn't resemble the wonderful and storied dishes of my youth. Nope. No raisins, no almonds, no onions, no fired egg... just saffron rice and chicken chunks. Pass. Yet the bottomless cups of mango lassi are delicious. And the folks are really nice. Just don't expect everything to be magic. Order with care. I imagine if you stick to the vegetarian menu you'll rave. read more

Great food and service. When you walk in was a very pleasant aroma that started the experience off right. Started off with the Korma Sutra Plater, can't tell you which was which but the Chutney was divine, sweet, spicy & lots of flavors. Asked the chicken Tandoori as an appetizer, may have been some confusion, but a whole order came to the table. Chicken had good flavor and the vegetables were cooked but still had a "crunch" when you bite in to them, combined together really well. I ordered the Korma Sutra Biriyani, medium plenty spicy, not quite what I had envisioned but really good! Got an order of garlic naan, good garlic flavor. Ended with some Abadan Kheer, which really surprised me for being "just" a rice pudding. Would recommend to someone new to Indian food and/or group of friends to get the opportunity to try several plates. read more

Not sure if they were short staffed that night or what, but it was bad. I understand that sometimes things like that happen, but we probably shouldn't have been seated right away.
