Much of my experience has been take out ( either lunch or dinner after work ) so, I can't really speak to the overall dining experience. That said, I'd echo what most everyone has said about the quality; whatever I've gotten was quite good, their staff has always been cordial and receptive to any questions or modifications when I've ordered over the phone. I have dined at Kotobuki several times since i have began my sushi eating career and in my opinion i have yet to discover a better place for sushi on long island. Although the menu has a lot of traditional sushi items you could order from even the shabbiest of places Kotobuki creates it in its own way. Ive never had a complaint about my food its always delicious, the hot tea is very good as well. Kotobuki of Babylon does its sushi well and the waiters are very nice once you began to build a rapport and will have a polite casual conversation. My only complaint is the seating arrangement at times when its almost a full house, getting to or from your seat can be a hassle a few of the tables are too close together and could use some distance. Also its probably been said before but if you're planning on going for dinner be sure to get there very early as they do fill up very fast and can be packed in an instant. Small place, a little cramped. The line to get in takes no longer than any other excellent restaurant. BUT ... the waitstaff is friendly and accommodating and the sushi is second to none!! For claiming to be the best sushi on Long Island, it certainly held up to its expectation. My girlfriend and I went and order a substantial amount of food from there and it was all amazing. Gyoza, soup and all different kinds of rolls and it all tasted great. The building was very clean and the service was excellent. Recommend this place to everyone. read more

The sushi is very fresh! Friendly waiter and staff. Place is a little cramp so anticipate a wait time between 30-45 min. It was worth the wait. They do not accept reservation. The sushi for 3 is actually enough for 4. There is also one in Roslyn and it is bigger. read more

Delicious. I arrived at Kotobuki 20 minutes before they opened, so we walked around Babylon until they opened and arrived another 15 minutes after they opened. When we walked inside, I didn't expect half of the restaurant to be filled within those 15 minutes. I heard this place was amazing, but I didn't expect that! We still were able to grab a table and we ordered a couple of rolls. I wish I could remember exactly what rolls we had, but my memory is like that of a snail, but I remember being extremely satisfied after the meal. I actually remember the Crazy Tuna Roll being somewhere in our dinner. Our meal was fresh and delicious, which is basically what you are only looking for in a sushi restaurant. From what I understand, this place is always pretty packed. But I came here on a Sunday night and we got right in. We were seated and drinks brought to us immediately. If you know the area, you know it's sort of in a cool location right on the main street. So you can grab some sushi and head right out to do some bar hopping. The sushi itself was great. I can give you a rundown of each roll, but I think it's safe to say that each one is going to be made with the type of pride that I roll joints with. Kotobuki is easy to miss but when you do find it you'll be glad you're there. It's a cozy place that doesn't pack its patrons in tight. Its understated decor suits the place perfectly because the food is the main attraction here. The miso soup had generous portions of tofu and the broth was rich. This might be my favorite sushi restaurant in the country and it's because of one roll: #6 fried oyster with spicy mayo and cucumber. Of course, anything fried tastes good, but I can't get enough of this roll. Hands down the best sushi I've ever had. This was my regular spot with my girlfriends for the last five years. I always get a salmon avocado salad or tako su. Their oyster yaki is orgasmic. Kotobuki was suggested to me by a friend; however, I was disappointed. The service was extremely slow and the food was mediocre. You are also seated so closely to the other tables that the other diners must get up and move so that you can get to the seat on the other side. I was surprised to see such a wait time for this, but it seems it must be because of it's location in the busy Babylon Village. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for more than an average experience. read more

Kotobuki is by far by most favorite place to get sushi! Freshest, tastiest fish! Yes, the wait can be long but to me its worth it. I love the hotoshi noodles and the carpacchio sauce. The place however, is quite small and you're kind of on top of one another there. They re-did it several years ago, but it seems just as small, if not smaller from them packing more tables in there. However, if you can eat at the sushi bar, a booth or just get it to go its worth it. I dont mind either way because the food is delicious. read more

I've had sushi at dozens of locations in several different states, and I must say that Kotobuki serves the freshest, best tasting sushi I've ever eaten. My boyfriend and I frequent this restaurant when we want a nice place to go on a dinner date. We used to order the sushi for two special, but they serve so much food! They gave us 3 appetizers before we got a huge plate filled with a beautiful display of dozens of different kinds of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi to satisfy our taste buds. The last time we were there we ordered our own plates of sashimi. The sashimi at Kotobuki is very large, thick, and tasty, and I haven't had better sashimi anywhere else. My go to Japanese restaurant. Consistency is the hallmark of this restaurant. High quality fresh food is always on tap here. Been frequenting this place and the happauge location for 10 plus years. Never been disappointed. Prefer the Babylon loction as its not as tumultuous as the happauge Waits are shorter and much more reasonable in Babylon and food is top notch all the time. I order katsudan off their donburi menu. If you don't see it on the dinner menu just ask for it. Comes with miso soup and salad, both great. Best katsudan I've ever had nothing has ever come close. The sushi is top notch. You can actually see freshness of the fish when it's presented to the table. Even the green tea rocks. My entire family all agrees that this place is da bomb. Travel if need be but try this place, you surely won't be disappointed. Not sure if you could find better anywhere. read more

Absolutely love this place. The sushi rolls are larger than most I've seen. They have a good mix of rolls and many specialty rolls. Although it is a bit pricey, it is definitely worth it. I started my boyfriend on this place and he loves it as much as I do. It is small and often crowded but any line always moves quick. I love Kotobuki! Seriously the best sushi place in LI. The place is cozy and well decorated, so that it feels very upscale and comfortable. The location is great too cuz it's close to a lot of bars and a big park that is just around the corner. Now for the food, I love all the rolls and sashimi. their fish are really fresh and the sushi rice has the right amount of flavor to compliment the other stuff that are in the rolls. my picks: -sashimi salad. [I love the sauce that comes with this. It has a sort of spicy sweet taste. This is actually a huge salad and I love to eat it with a bowl of white rice.] -tuna advocado salad [again, the sauce that comes with this is exquisite. My bf always gets this whenever we go here. The tuna just melts in your mouth, and with the added texture of the advocado and the sauce, it's just the perfect combination. This is actually a lot of people's favorites] -spicy calamari [really great appetizer, but most will find this extremely spicy. White people beware. If you are asian though, I think you'll love it. especially if you are korean. lol] -tuna carpaccio [delicious thinly sliced tuna that is very rarely cooked with tons of seasoning and sauce that's great] now for the main dish: -american dream -1/2 futomaki -babylon #9 [my absolute favorite roll] -rock & roll #5 [if you like philadelphia, this is like a jacked up version!] -Spider [name sounds disgusting, but the taste is exquisite. it's fried soft shelled crab with spicy mayo and cucumber. tastes really good and is actually a pretty big roll] -kotobuki steak [this one's very popular and I see people getting them all the time. It smells really good. comes out sizzling and everyone will look to see where that wonderful smell is coming from. I have yet to try this though.] -sukiyaki [a great kitchen food for those that are still not into sushi. it's your choice of beef or chicken cooked with vegetables and sauteed. eaten with rice.] I usually scorn people who go to sushi restaurant and order udon or some crap like that so please don't do that. be ready to spend at least $40 for 2 people dining in. This place isn't cheap, but it's cheaper than some of the sushi restaurants I've been to in LI that taste worse! cheers! -ladies, if you like cocktail like drinks... get banzai. it's sweet and tasty! i also recommend you try their osake. ask the waitress/waiters for recs. but they're all pretty darn good. read more

Kotobuki "Resturant"...I maintain that their site is audiovisually obnoxious. Call-ahead take-out inquiring about the lunch special with a backup option of the unadon donburi. Yes, it's pricey; yes, there's no "lunch menu" and certainly no traditional Asian lunch specials. Every lunch item exceeds single digits before tax and nothing stands out as anything but authentic-sounding until you receive the delicious fare. The tuna teriyaki lunch special was $12 with vegetable tempura, california roll, vegetables, and two pieces of tuna, all in a pool of teriyaki glaze. Friendly folks, quick service, and very reasonable portions if you can find the place along the strip. Overall, a heap of food similar to what's served up at its Hauppauge location. The fastest meal I ever ate, not because of how good it was (though it was quite) but due to how fast I needed to finish it. Would like another trial run with more minutes to spare. read more
