I've been here twice and have not been disappointed. I had the all you can eat sushi and roll the first time and it was so worth it. The price is a little cheaper for lunch. The all you can eat also includes chicken teriyaki, gyoza, calamari tempura, vegetable and shrimp tempura. It's all in there. The lemon love roll is pretty delicious. It has mango in it which is different but I loved it. The Las Vegas roll was one of my favorites. It has eel and cream cheese among other delicious ingredients. The baked lobster roll is also another one to try. They have dinner specials as well that are numbered. The special include two rolls with the prices listed next to them. I'm rating this place a three because our first and second experience here was very good. But we sat in to eat, our to-go orders have been a different experience. When you sit down to eat, everything is very good and presentable. The service is polite and pretty on top of everything. I have ordered a pick up order, maybe about 4 times. And each time had gotten progressively worse. First, the price is never the same. We order the same thing every time and every time the price has been slightly different. Also, my boyfriend orders the same tray plate every time, and again, it's been different every time. One time it came w two rices and no real sides. Other time it came w fried veggies, another w no veggies. It's never been the same plate, even though he orders the same plate. Also every time I've got a pick up order my rolls have gotten more and more sloppy. My last order fell apart immediately, and I know how to use chopsticks, so this wasn't the issue. Another time there was absolutely no cucumber in my roll. I ask for no avocado and there wasn't avocado but they completely left out the cucumber. Which ended up just being shrimp and imitation crab, that's it. Also, the last time I picked up the order I got completely sick. This sushi place is good for something hiding in Whittier! We came in around 7pm for their AYCE ($22.95 per person on weekdays). The staff welcomed us and we were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy. We were handed menus, and asked for our drinks and then they brought us our ginger and wasabi. My boyfriend and I were curious about a lot of the rolls and the nigris so we ordered quite a few lol. When we got our first roll (Crunch roll), we saw the shrimp in the roll was barely cooked. My boyfriend tried it first and said that the shrimp was barely cooked enough but still safe. Mind you, the shrimp was still translucent but we didn't get food poisoning the next day so there's that XD The rolls for AYCE are kind of small which gave us the opportunity to try out more rolls. The first batch of nigiris we got were fresh but when we got the second batch of nigiris, the salmon was chewy so it probably wasn't as fresh. Kinda gross. This place, to me, is pretty good. The staff was nice and the restaurant is really well kept. The sushi chefs are very talkative and the price is decent. This is the best sushi place I have been to since I've moved to California by far. The pink lady roll is by far my favorite. The staff was very friendly. We came in 5 minutes before lunch prices were over and they still let us have the lunch price which is 20.95. It was definitely worth 40 bucks for 2 people. Full disclosure: I went to Koya Sushi solely because it was one of the only sushi spots in town open on Mondays. As jt turns out though, Koya also has really good sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese entrees and appetizers. I ordered takeout, and my food--which included a bunch of different stuff for several people--was ready in 15 minutes. The sushi chefs and waitstaff were friendly and helpful. Plus they separated the hot stuff from the cold, *and* included two bags of ice in the latter to make sure it stayed that way. Whether it's Monday or not, I suggest giving Koya a try. I had the AYCE at lunch. If you like nigiri, don't expect much. It personally would not order the nigiri because it is not good. The rice to fish ratio was ridiculous. A thin slice of fish and the tiniest bit of rice. Let's not even mention the fish is not good or fresh enough. The masago and ikura was barely ok, maybe even the eel... but the rest was not. Now sushi rolls and appetizers were ok enough for me to give a 3 star, that is why the rating was adjusted. So if you like sushi rolls and more of the cooked stuff, then your good to try this place! Today was my second visit to Koya Sushi. I wasn't gonna try this place again due to lack of service, and I couldn't understand the employees because their English wasn't clear. Today changed my mind about this place and the server that attended us was very professional, and fast paced. My sister only speaks Spanish and out server was bilingual, so that was a big plus! My party of 7 came here for AYCE sushi for dinner today and we were really disappointed on the service of Koya Sushi. We came right before 8 p.m. to try out this restaurant and we were able to order without a problem. However, as we continued the night, we became dissatisfied. Sushi was okay and there was inconsistency throughout the food I ate. Some of the rice in the sushi I ate had too much water where the rice was smushy. I noticed that some of the fish in the sushi that I ate seemed a little odd and didn't seem as fresh as well. Our table was by the entrance of the restaurant and there were about 2 or 3 customers besides us. With that being said, my party and the other customers were located by the entrance of the restaurant. There was one server working but she was nowhere to be found since she was at the back of the restaurant most of the time we were there (even though no customers were at the back). It took a while to get her attention considering that we did not have any plates or utensils after our first plate came. Later on the service, she gave our party attitude and became rude to our party after requesting eel sauce which confused my friends and I. Majority of our food came out in a decent time but our last two dishes took a very long time to come out. Before our last dish, our server informed my party that she would bring the menu back with our last dish to order our second round (which she didn't by the way). Our last dish came before 9 p.m. and we were waiting for the menu so we can order more. Since our server was in the back most of the time, it seemed like she was avoiding us and we eventually waited around 20 minutes for her to bring the menu back. This part left my party speechless and frustrated: Right after she brought the menu back, she placed it on top of a dirty plate that had sauce all over. After placing it, she informed us that the last call to order more was 9:10 p.m. and it was already past 9:15. This meant that we couldn't order our second round but the server did not even inform us about the last call at all. Usually at kbbq or any other AYCE sushi restaurants, they would inform every table about it to make sure any other orders were needed to be made. This is why its called "last call" and not "surprise call". By the time we complained, the sushi chefs were already cleaning up their stations. We were very dissatisfied since we did not get our moneys worth and felt scammed. My party were still hungry by the time we left and we eventually went to Choo Choo Mama Tacos to fill up our appetite. 100% we would not come back. read more

I felt like the experience at this restaurant was very underwelming. I wanted to give this place a try after reading good and consistent reviews by many other costumers. Much of this review is based on the costumer service and professionalism of the staff. First, I want to describe the setting/situation. We were a party of 7 arriving roughly 7:50p.m for ayce sushi. There were only 3 other groups at the restaurant (1 couple, 1 solo, and a small family). So here's how it played out. We were seated right away and and took 10-15 mins to order our 1st round which was. Our first 6 plates came out within the first 30 minutes which is not bad. However, our last plate came out 20 minutes after our 2nd to last plate and it was 8:50p.m. by then. We believed there was more food coming because our server informed us that we would get out menu back when all orders have been finished. By the time it was 9:15 p.m., which was 15 minutes after we finished our apparently last plate order, our server placed our menu back down folded into the dirty plate and said "last call was at 9:10pm". We were at a loss for words because we were not informed about last call. Usually any ayce restaurant, in my opinion, would mention last call 15-30 mins prior to last call for customers to order what they still wanted to leave satisfied and happy. Most of the time our server was unable to be found because we were seated on one side of the restaurant (nearby the entrance). Not sure where she went or what she was doing, but she did not pay attention to our table as much as other tables (all the tables were near the entrance which was where we were at). We were only able to do 1 round in the end and left disappointed (we ended up going to a taco truck to fill our stomachs). Most of the time the server was giving attitude when we were asking for simple things like "ginger, wasabi, etc." I did not enjoy my experience here and wanted to share it to others so they may avoid the same fate. read more
