I've been coming here for 25 years. It's been downhill for a bit. Today I asked for a chicken Caesar wrap without the dressing and was told by the owner that that was an impossible request because they don't do anything special/special orders. They couldn't skip the step where they added Caesar dressing to the wrap for the reason of...stubbornness? If you don't want to be in the people business, sell your business! This is a great little market. Not necessarily a full grocery store but the closest thing to it if you're staying in kennebunk/port. Amazing selection of wines, good amount of beer and liquor options. A few grocery type things - condiments / paper towels / fresh citrus / etc. Good ice cream and desserts. I can't review much more than the Whoopie pies and the fact that this place has everything to offer. We were exposed to this Mercantile while on a food tour. Our food tour consisted of a stop to pick up a snack sized Whoopie pie here. The Whoopie pie was super soft chocolate cake with the traditional vanilla icing center. It was a very traditional Whoopie pie and exactly what you would expect while in Maine. When we were finished with the food tour I made a stop to check this place out on the inside. We were so stuffed full from the tour, that we didn't actually buy anything more, but I was very intrigued by this store. Their motto is "If we don't have it, you don't need it!" They literally have everything including a deli, a mini pharmacy, and anything in between. It's a true Mercantile and was really neat to see. The staff appeared very friendly and they were hustling and bustling about the store serving customers very diligently. Check this place out! read more

Let's just say you don't know what to expect when you order a sandwich at the counter of a tiny market. However, the sandwiches from H.B. Provisions deliver. We came here primarily because they had a gluten free bread option for my boyfriend (in fact lots of GF options for purchase throughout the store like GF crackers, snacks, etc.). We spent a few hours in Kennebunkport and made our way to this store for a quick lunch. We ordered at the sandwich counter and brought our receipt to the register to pay. Then grabbed a seat at the few tables they had outside. They brought our sandwiches to us. I had the crab melt and my boyfriend had the lobster roll on gluten free bread (so it was more like a lobster sandwich) and came with lettuce and tomato. He liked the addition of the lettuce and tomato. The bread was good too (always a plus!). My crab melt was so simple, but one of the best sandwiches ever. It was similar to a tuna melt, except with crab so obviously better. It came mixed with a bit of minced onion and mayo, perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper, topped with sharp cheddar that's melted between multi-grain bread. It was a thin sandwich and simple, but that's what makes it so good. They knocked it out of the park. read more

A taco here, a chicken parm there, a dumpling that time and it happened last weekend at HB Provisions with their corned beef hash. If you are searching for what I'm putting as the best corn beef hash this side of the Mississippi, head to Kennebunk Maine, stat. I can see why this charming little market with a deli counter and a small seating area in the back is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike. Hell, G. H W Bush and family are fans. I went with Travis' Famous Wrap. I didn't add hot sauce. I wanted to, but I refrained. I really wish they salt and peppered it up before wrapping it up, but other than that no complaints. A quality wrap filled with perfectly scrambled eggs, the most delicious maple bacon ever, sauteed onions and perfectly crisped hash browns. Per the owner (working the deli counter), Johnny Mac ordered the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and toast. WOW. Almost like a pulled pork, this was just a heaping pile of heaven. Almost too good to share, but alas I can see why I was told people usually order it along with something else to split. You almost feel bad eating the whole thing. It's also just a lot of the same thing and breakfast is all about incorporating so many different flavors. The toast was high quality buttered bread. Just thinking about the corned beef and potato mixture is making me hunnnngry and I'm not a hash type woman. The baked goods like the freshly made donuts, pop tarts, whoopie pies, regular pies and muffins all looked like knock outs. I refrained from indulging my sweet tooth by using all my will power, but don't be an idiot like me and order all that good stuff up. Five stars HB Provisions, five stars. read more

I visited for breakfast on a weekday during the 3rd week of August 2019. The place was jam packed and for pretty good reason. They gave a great selection of both breakfast and lunchtime sandwiches.......all which use pretty fresh and quality ingredients. I tried a lobster and swiss on sourdough which was put on a panini press.....and it was great. Other people in my party ordered a few other sandicges which all looked good, but there was one that had eggs, ham, fresh made hash browns, cheddar cheese and from what I was told, a house made sausage party on an English muffin. I was offered a bite and couldn't refuse......it was fantastic. There is another section of the store which I did not venture into on this visit, but I'm told they have a nice selection of quality meats and cheeses on display for purchase. I guess I'll have to check out that part next time I visit. My one complaint is the process if ordering, paying and receiving your food was a bit disorganized with some workers duplicating the efforts of others while at the same time, attention need to be given elsewhere and just was not there. After speaking up, everything was resolved but for as busy this place is, and the throngs of customers they're churning out day after day, the need to have it running like a well oiked machine......in which it was not. But I refuse to end this review on anything but a positive note......the staff was friendly and although you had to wait a bit for a seat......the current dining patrons we're respectful of those that did not yet eat, so they got up as soonas they were finished in order to make room for thise waiting. This was a surprise stop in Kennebunkport on an early morning run to help a friend get her car. First, I have to say that they serve breakfast all day and the food all looked so good, but I settled on a bagelwich. It came with eggs, homemade hashbrowns, choice of meat and cheese; mine was sans cheese. When we tried to pay, we were advised that we pay on the way out. We grabbed a table by the window and settled in with what looked like regulars. Our food was brought to us and it was delightfully massive and tasty. They have a wooden tic tac toe board as well as a cross stitch puzzle to work on. The store itself has a little area for dine in as well as coolers for drinks and standard convenience store food stuffs as well as fresh produce. The lobster roll here is among the best, if not the absolute best I've ever had. It is a massive portion of lobster, served warm with a drizzle of butter, some crunchy romaine lettuce for texture, and a warm kaiser roll that has been toasted on the skillet. I have had many items in the store, this is mind-blowingly good. I prefer my lobster roll warm with a little butter rather than slipped with mayo and celery. Stopped in to get a hamburger. Can still remember, from our last visit, the fabulous flavor of the maple bacon on our hamburger. So my wife, son, and I all ordered a hamburger with maple bacon. The maple bacon tasted as delicious and flavorful as I had remembered. My only complaint is that, and all of us concurred, they were very skimpy on how much they put on your burger. This is a nice little store. I felt rushed by the employees to come in, order, and get out - but I know that they are limiting people in the store right now, so that makes sense. The four times I've bought lunch from HB has always ended in disappointment. Every time I get the food back to my work and choke down half of the disgusting, $10 mess of a sandwich, I swear I'll never go back. But there aren't many other options nearby, so about a year later I find myself in the same position. However, this last visit, which was actually supposed to be a quick beer run, will absolutely be the end of my patronage there. I've been willing to look past Bonnie's poor attitude and lack of customer service, and even overlook some questions of financial impropriety, always giving her the benefit of the doubt when all sorts of different people spoke low of her. But after witnessing her reduce a poor teenaged girl to tears over something that struck me as both trivial and a potential learning experience, I don't think I can look her in the eye again. It was the most callow, embarrassingly childish outburst I've ever had the misfortune of watching. It was all I could do, silently squirming in my shoes, to keep my mouth shut. I knew that one wrong word would set off this hot-head in my direction, and if she started spouting off at me, I knew I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. I have been a customer at H.B. provisions for nearly 18 years. Over these years i have enjoyed many meals and it deeply pains me to inform you all that it is now ruined. 18 years of lovely memories have now turned to twisted and traumatic nightmares all because of one breakfast burrito. If I could turn back the clocks to have never even walked into the establishment I would. that's how fucking bad this breakfast burrito was. It was oozing with grotesque slimes dripping from what seemed to be ham but in actuality looked like it came directly from an old man's rotting asshole. Not to mention how soggy the tortilla was, it was almost entirely disintegrated. It was not only the appearance that was alarming, the taste was enough to send you into cardiac arrest. When someone tells you "don't judge a book by it's cover" DO NOT listen to them. I nearly had to call an ambulance it was so revolting. The owner, whose name is Bonnie, is incredibly rude. I don't know how long she has owned this place, but if this is the way she behaves then I wonder why she is still in business. I was there the other day on vacation in Maine and I have always looked forward to getting breakfast sandwiches and coffee there. Due to covid, I ordered the sandwiches in advance to be picked up at the window and also asked for coffee. She told me that that you must get your own coffee and then proceeded to lecture me about the safety of the store and how if I were afraid of covid, I should not be out shopping. It was horrible to be embarrased like that in front of other customers. Though I have been going there for 8 years, this is the last time I will be a customer, until someone who has respect for people owns the store. read more

We get so excited for breakfast and coffee, but HB Provisions was disappointing: everything was as uninspiring as the menu would have you believe. THE GOOD Maple bacon was the lonely bit of flavor in our bacon, egg & cheese sandwiches. The gingerbread cookie latte was quite tasty; perfectly spiced although a bit too sweet come the end of their large cup. THE BAD I wasn't happy with the 35 minute wait for takeout (everyone takes-out), which was compounded by the fact that or lattes came out immediately -- so they were cold by the time I got my wife's back home to her. The mocha latte was weak. Literally tasted like steamed milk. Period. They didn't put any syrup in it, just some chocolate sauce that's flavorless, which I know from trying some w my finger. THE WORST The bacon egg and cheese sandwiches were brutal. $7 for a bready bagle that engulfs a tiny ball of egg. They're like a burger that's all bun. Not even much cheese to speak of. The 5 stars is for the Maine Blueberry ice cream. I am obsessed. The textures going on here are incredible. It's sweet and tart, and just the right amount of blueberry and then you get hit with these tiny pieces of chewy tangy maine blueberries. Oh yes, this is the best ice cream I have ever eaten. This stuff puts the best gelato in the best city in Italy to shame. **Review Based off of Soup Only** Was one of our last stops before heading south after a week along the Maine coast. Was waiting for my girlfriend in the car as she was in a store and decided to take a look around inside. We had already grabbed a quick lunch so wasn't looking for a meal but maybe a few things to bring home. Got large containers of their Clam Chowder and Potato, Ham, and Provolone. Pretty sure I saw a sign saying they were voted best chowder at the winter fest if I'm not mistaken. Couldn't agree more, some of the best soup period I've ever had. Fresh, pull of product. Upon returning to the area (hopefully soon), it will be on the list for a meal stop. It's an old school general store that is defiantly worth a few minute walk around to see local products. Awesome little store with a huge selection. If you are visiting Kennebunkport, make sure to walk across the bridge and stop in here for some snacks, drinks, or anything you could possibly need. This place is really convenient if you are staying at one of the nearby hotels or BnB's. They have any necessities you may have forgotten to pack, plus a great selection of local foods, coffees, wines, beers, cheeses, baked goods, etc. We stayed across the street for a night and found ourselves here at least 5 times in the 2 days we were there. The market that has it all. I have been going here since I was born - seriously! This place has served three generations and counting in my family. Love the coffee station - it couldn't be any more easy to use. And the breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Best thing on the menu is hands down the candied bacon. I could probably eat three plates full. My last visit my friends and I hung out and played the fun games at the table while sipping on coffee and hiding from the rain. The market has just enough stuff for last minute needs and they dominate the trinkets for presents to send to people. The HB staff puts capital C in Customer Service - I have never left thinking man they could have been more helpful - they are always willing to go the extra mile which is why I go there so often. read more
