The original chicken didn't even need sauce and the sweet and spicy chicken was heavenly experience of flavor. We also ordered the regular fries and truffle fries. Both great. I'm not a ketchup person at all and these fries were great enough to not use extra sauce. The service was great. It's one of my BF's top-rated Korean fried chicken spots, and we had to stop by after a slightly disappointing experience at bb.q Chicken to get our K(orean)FC fix. Kalbi (Bone-In) - My BF rated this as his favorite flavor, despite protests from his friends, who insisted that the Sweet & Spicy was the better choice. I love that they give you the little mochi chews--they're so yum. The chicken has a distinctive black pepper flavor that sets it apart. It didn't have quite the same "wow" factor for me as it did for my BF and BFF, but I still think it deserves a spot on a Top 10 list. Overall, I've definitely had crispier chicken at bb.q Chicken in Katy, so that still holds my top spot. I do wish I'd gotten to try some of the other flavors here, especially the Honey Butter. I've been eyeing this spot for a while and while I'm glad I got to try it, the food unfortunately fell a little short. My friend and I got the Krisp wings (lunch menu) and the Tteok Bokki. The tteok bokki was average and I thought it was interesting how they fried the boiled egg. As for the wings, this was a let down. The exterior of the chicken wasn't as crispy as I thought it'd be so that was slightly disappointing. The flavor is lackluster without the sauce but at least it wasn't dry. The lunch menu said that the wings would include french fries, coleslaw, and our choice of sauce but there were no french fries and coleslaw. Not to mention, we got charged extra for the sauce when the description made it sound like a sauce was included. The honey butter sauce we got was absolutely delicious and it could be argued that it's worth the $3 extra but I did feel a little baited based on what the lunch menu said. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little lackluster (darkly lit, no music playing in the back, etc). As for the service, our server was sweet and friendly! The cheese balls came with a sweet cream sauce . I honestly like this one a lot. The honey butter, chicken wings were OK. They were decent, but not my top three. Order-to-Food: ~15-20 Minutes I got here around noon with a group of four on a Friday. Initially, there wasn't anyone else there, but a few parties came and went as we were there, including a number of to-go orders. They have about ten tables inside. Each table has a little call button to get service. With four people, we each ordered one of the six-wing lunch special with different flavors to share. The flavors we got were: 1. Kalbi - Universally the #1 or #2 favorite of the group. All-rounder good ginger soy flavor. 2. Sweet & Spicy- Two of us said it was our #1 and one said it was his least favorite. It's got the spice from gochujang flavor and the sauciness means that your wings will get soggy a bit faster. 3. Honey Butter - One gave this his "most favorite" and everyone else put it around 3-4th. I think the honey flavor was a little too weak. 4. Spicy Soy - Somewhere toward the middle-lower of our choices. The flavors didn't come out too strongly here. The lunch specials are served with a nice helping of very crispy fries and some coleslaw to null any heat. Stopped in with coworkers for lunch, we came in around 11:30 so it wasn't busy at all. Our waitress was pretty nice and attentive. It's a simple spot, no bells and whistles. I ordered a chicken sandwich and unfortunately found a hair in my food. I brought it to the owner at the front counter, and he immediately took the sandwich without saying anything. When he came back out, he still didn't address the situation until I asked what we were going to do about it. He offered to remake the sandwich, which I agreed to. I then asked how something like that could have happened, and he responded in an annoyed tone, saying, "I don't know, I'm not looking over their shoulder 24/7." Instead, he began laughing in my face...multiple times ....which felt dismissive and unprofessional. Because of how the situation was handled, I ultimately asked for a refund. I've also noticed that he eats right next to the area where to-go orders are packaged, which raises concerns about overall food handling practices. What makes this especially disappointing is that about a year ago, I was served a sandwich with raw chicken from this same restaurant. At that time, the owner also wasn't very helpful in addressing the issue. I overlooked it because I genuinely enjoyed the food and wanted to continue supporting the business. However, after this most recent experience, I can't ignore the pattern. We've been a patron for three years now. Krisp executes Korean Fried Chicken very well and the customer experience is pretty consistent. Even after a 30-minute car ride home, the chicken stayed pretty crispy and crunchy. Some of the sauce choices are a bit salty, but there's lots of flavor packed in whichever dressing you choose. Their pickled radish has a nice crispy, crunch and refreshing tanginess to it unlike other places that let it get mushy or overly-sweet without any sour tart. The staff is friendly, ample parking in the strip mall, and a good amount of seating inside the restaurant. The decor is dark-themed, a basic chicken and beer joint (if you know about Korean ChiMaek houses, it's no-frills). Also, when they say fried egg, they deep fry the egg, which was different than the soft boiled egg I'm used to. Wouldn't get again. 1/2 Chicken lunch - $11.95 - 4/5 Chicken: Crisply fried and very juicy on the inside. I was impressed at how precisely it was cooked. Most places will over fry the chicken and dry it out. 5/5 Sauces: We got Spicy Soy and Creamy Onion. I asked the waiter the difference between spicy soy, sweet & spicy, and hot spicy. He told me they were all the same but just different levels of heat. I don't actually think that's true because the Spicy Soy had barely any sweetness to it at all. The sauce was good but would have been excellent with that added sweetness. Could have been a bit spicier as well but that's just personal preference. 4/5. Creamy Onion tasted like a loose tartar sauce. I've had better elsewhere. 2/5. Next time, I'd want to come back for the Garlic and Sweet & Spicy. Fries: The fries that come the chicken are top notch. Great texture and flavor. Not too salty either! 5/5 Value: Lunch was a great value with a price tag of $12 for a half chicken plus fries and slaw. Would come back again to try the other flavors. I pondered as to why the interior of the dining area was on the darker side; maybe people like eating their chicken in shadowy areas? Also went with an order of fried dumplings as a warm up. Probably could've done without the dumplings and just ordered more chicken or a different starter since they didnt' taste that special to me. Now the chicken on the other hand was crispy, greasy, juicy, salty, all the profiles you want in fried chicken. The Korean kind does these at the highest level which is why people are obsessed with it. Chicken also has mini fried rice cakes mixed in which compliment the chicken well. The creamy onion came on the side so I kept pouring/dipping the chicken into it since it's like an addiction. Sweet creams are made of these! My friends and I were looking for something different for lunch and decided on Krisp Korean Fried Chicken because we hardly do Korean fried chicken. It was nice to finally cross Krisp off my to try list. It is located on the corner of a shopping strip so parking was not a real issue. For a holiday, the place was pretty empty. We grabbed one of the larger tables in the middle where you can scan a QR code for a menu and then push a button for service. I thought this was pretty convenient as there was only one dude working the front of house. That guy wasn't unpleasant, but he was straight business. The menu isn't large. You have your chicken options in the variety of whole chicken, half chicken and wings. With those options you then pick one of the 8 flavors. Prices vary so they do not allow mixing and matching which was a bummer for most of us at the table. They have some specialty items like tteok-bokki in made in different ways, buldak, and cheese balls. For sides they have fries, onion rings, corn & cheese, dumplings, kimchi, and coleslaw. I went with the hot and spicy wings and an order of regular fries. This type of chicken usually gets double fried so there is a bit of a wait, but well worth it. Our food came out pretty staggered which isn't ideal when everyone wants to eat together. The wings were a little small compared to other Korean fried chicken joints I've been to. They were sauced really well and also came with rice cakes. I thought that was a nice touch. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection and piping hot, but the sauce on the outside was a little bit on the cold side. The flavor of the hot and spicy was on point. It had just the right amount of heat and was very enjoyable. The fries were the lightly battered kind and they were delicious. I also enjoyed some of my dining companions sweet potato fries and corn & cheese. One of my friends asked for ranch and they do charge extra for that. Drink wise, they only have canned drinks but do not provide ice. We found that odd, especially on a hot summer day.
