I love this place and its Bentos. You can't go wrong. They're opened Tuesday thru Friday, I'm not sure about Saturday, and they're closed Sunday and Monday. Their hours are early like 4:30 a.m. until either 2 p.m. or once sold out. They do not accept Credit Cards, Debit Cards or Checks. Cash Only. The prices are still reasonable even though​ it has gone up. If you show up by 10 a.m. I guarantee the selection of Bentos​ will be very, very limited. I believe you can pre-order if you have a large order to fill. I love all theBentos​s whatever one I can grab. Parking is limited in front of the store and there's some street parking. So the next time you're going to the beach or planning to cruz the island pick up​ a couple of Bentos it'll be well worth it. Better yet the next time I go to the Mainland I'm picking up a couple of Bentos for my carry-on instead of eating airplane food. Meats, vegetables, ​and Seafood (no liquid) are​ allowed in your Carry-on per the TSA website. The size, decor, ​and smell of the store take​s me back to when the Hawaii Industry order was Sugar Cane, Pineapple then Tourism. Although I'm on Oahu all of my senses takes me back to my childhood growing up on Kauai in the late 60's - 70's when we use to pick up Bento's from our local store on Kauai and going Holoholo to either Hanalei or Polihale from Kapa'a or just to picnic at the opening of the Wailua River mouth next to the City of Refuge. Been coming here since elementary days because of the convenience of a quick bento to go. The spot has been at its original location for years. There are about four to five parking spaces at the front but there are other parking on the street. It's pretty easy to get a spot because it's literally a grab and go spot. We always get the small bento and as the years pass, the price increases but it's still worth it. The small bento includes 3 pieces of chicken, 3 types of rice, a hot dog, and the tofu egg. It used to include the hash potato but I haven't seen it in a while. The bento always fills my belly, simple but delicious. A must have early in the morning before heading to the beach. I used to always come here to pick up bentos for kids football games, soccer, etc.... and I was always greeted with a warm smile, little conversation and a gracious thank you.... Today,, my husband and I decided to pick up bentos.. how disappointed we were.... the girl was on her phone when we arrived.. no greeting, nothing.. I asked about the price.. she looked at me and said $8.00..like I was bothering her on her phone talking about her dog... We end up purchasing only 2, when initially we were gonna buy 8.... when we left, there was no gracious thank you, nothing.. she just walked over by the counter abd rearranged the bentos like we messed it up... Tonight was my first night here! I've always heard about this place, my friends would always suggest it after a night out drinking or before we head to the beach lol. BUT every time we came they were sold out! My son is super sick right now, it's 1am (they're not even suppose to be open right now) but my bf & I had to take him to the hospital to get checked. We stopped here on our way so we're not starving at the hospital. My bf kept insisting on how good it is and I was like, it's 1am are you sure they are even open right now ?! Anyway, we got there, I waited in the car. I can see my bf talking to someone but couldn't see who. I then pulled up Yelp to see what time they open because even if their door was open, the sign said "sorry we're closed" and sure enough, Yelp said they are open 5-2pm! Lol! So I was expecting bf to come out and be like sorry babe, let's go jack in the box or something but nope, he came back with two bentos! He told me aunty said they not making bentos right now but he was like, ah please aunty it's my gfs first time, and she was like, okay okay then one time that's it haha. Two bentos were around $14 / $7 each. Comes with 3 pieces of yummy sweet fried chicken, half a small hot dog, 2 rice choice (I believe regular musubi rice and sushi rice) and a little Korean sushi roll and also I THINK it's tamago? I can't believe that after all of these years of taking this bento as a kid on field trips, I was finally able to visit here for myself to buy bentos for my kids to take on their field trip. I was sad that I was running late and that I wouldn't be able to get a bento. Fortunately, I lucked out and was able to get the large bento for not much more. I was so excited to see 3 pieces of chicken, 3 different rice musubis, luncheon meat, hot dog, egg and a shrimp. You could only imagine my kids excitement especially to know that I got it for only $8 each. I couldn't believe it. The little lady who runs the cashier at the front so kind and sweet. She had such a welcoming vibe that almost makes you want to buy the whole store. Here's a tip: If you would like to get the smaller bentos, come early or call ahead. Been going here since they opened, still to this day, hands down best bento in Hawaii. You can still taste the love and care put into these bentos. Keep in mind they are in high demand and only so many are made each day so if you get there late, don't get mad, leave early next time. Definitely worth it. We haven't been to K's Bento in quite a few years due to the quality of the food, however, we decided to pickup a couple of bentos today. We were shocked at the quality again. The bento had 3 pieces of chicken that were not the normal fried chicken with sauce (it was bland). There were 2 pieces of hot dog and 2 sushi (no maki) both were seasoned rice with red and green and 1 musubi, and no egg. And the price was $10 each! It's one thing to raise prices, but to reduce the amount of items and continue to let the quality go down???? Simply unsat and not fair to the customer. Late Night and Hungry? Skip those high-caloried munchie menus from Jack in the Crack. I would go across the street to K's Bento! After 11pm they appear to be closed but technically they are open cooking the food. The smell of the garlic chicken is heavenly. Park in one of the 5 or 6 stalls or across the street and you can buy a plate of the chicken or you can make your own bento by adding reg. rice or the sushi rice. The cost is $2 for chicken side order (decent-sized portion) and $1 per sushi rice mold or scoop. Bring your cash, this place kicks it old-school. These ladies work hard with only fans so if you are standing in there when they are cooking at mid-morning, you will think you are in a sauna. N just like celebs who do not like candid photos, they do not want to be up in your snapped, IGed, you name it. When they have the bentos ready in their normal hours of operation, you can be sure, these are great for a home lunch or on a recent visit, breakfast! I still remember the first time having a K's Bento while on a field trip in elementary school. I thought these were made in the cafeteria so I would always think I cannot wait for the mini hot dogs and fried chicken. From way back from when I can remember till now, K's has always been the go place on the west side of Oahu for many school students in need of a Bento for field trips. With dozens of delicious Bentos that come in two different sizes, laid out neatly on two different counter tops, allowing each customer to determine if they would like the standard Bento, or the other with more to offer. They also have shoyu tuna Futomaki and Inari sushi for sale on the cashier counter. All the ladies that open shop early, to prep the day's Okazu favorites are really nice, and helpful. However, you'll have to be punctual on time being that they may runout of Bentos as the day becomes later in the morning. With slight inflation in prices over the years, the delicious taste of their well loved Okazu style friend chicken Karaage, has remained the same. Every time I've been here, I would purchase the small ($6) which includes three pieces of deep fried chicken, two sushi musubi, one nori musubi, half a hot dog, small tofu omelette and hash patty. The boneless chicken has a good bite to it once you get to the meat. They also sell a large size for those with bigger appetites. All of the bentos are prepackaged so you can pick up and start eating. Now the location... it's on the same side as Tanioka's and is diaganal to Jack In the Box. Best bento in the entire state! So great that, most days they will sell out within hours. They don't have long hours too, just half days. So go quickly in the morning! Hubby and I would always pick up the large bento for such a good price. We'll either pick up before work, or when servicing my truck down the road at Servco, or after getting a tattoo around the area. How did I not write a review years and years ago when hubby introduced me to his hidden gem!!? Literally as I am reviewing this my mouth is salivating and I'm having huge cravings! The chicken is soo juicy and flavorful. And something about what they put around the rice makes it taste like the best rice in the entire world. The shrimp is amazing. I've been coming here to this family ran establishment since a little girl. I remember uncle and aunty and Ryan who would always be making the bentos and aunty who would work the register. Back then the bentos were 3.90 which included tax. Even with the price increase it's worth it. After 15 years coming to visit after relocating I stopped in to get some food to see their only son working. Uncle and aunty and their son Ryan passed away. Amazing! Lady that helped us with our take out order appeared to be very kind and approachable. Starch and protein combination seemed sufficient to carry through on the go, given a hot and sunny day. Large bento satisfied my brain and appetite for breakfast and lunch. I was quite surprised that I equally enjoyed everything in my bento. I scored a second prawn from my husband when he told me to peel the shell for him, then save it for him in a separate tray. Oops! I peeled the second prawn and accidentally consumed it. I tried to make up for my boo-boo by apologizing and offering a huge piece of cayenne chicken. He accepted my offer and laughed. Great picker upper for carbs and protein lovers! I finally made it here since my friend has been buggin me to try her favorite bento place in the world. I drove to probably one of uglier parts of the island and found the hole in the wall of a shack in a run down minimall. I walk in hoping to find a table and chairs to have a small meal with my daughter. Nope...none...i had to eat in the car. There was one choice..not a bad one..but just one at the time. I did get there about 11:30..so maybe it's my bad. Anyway, the fried chicken was pretty tasty...slightly sweet and salty. There was a piece of sausage and some rice accompanying it. I paid 6 bucks...not bad I guess. However, for 6 bucks I'd rather buy a hot dish..not a cold box of food that's been sitting out there for what I'm guessing is hours cuz it was cold to the touch. They also sell fried chicken by itself when it's available. That's probably worth it if it's hot. Who wants to eat cold fried chicken anyway??? There's also a larger bento box available for 7 bucks but comparatively to the smaller bento box...it's relatively the same...maybe one extra piece of chicken? A friend and I decided to stop here early in the morning for a bento to have for breakfast before turning around and heading back to the Pearl Harbor area for a visit to the USS Missouri. The trip was out of our way, but totally worth it. A little, tiny store area tucked away in Waipahu, K's Bento-ya serves up delicious small and large bento box options. My friend and I each got a large bento...and I didn't realize how much food was actually included until I started to dive in. You really can't beat $7 for this much deliciousness! Also, their rice is fantastic...and their sushi totally hit the spot. The hash was also delightful, and I could have easily had another serving of it... ya know, if I wasn't completely full by the time I got about 3/4 of the way through my box as it is. I finished my bento, because it was just THAT good... but man, was I full! Haha. Promotion of this place is totally word of mouth, by the way. The adorable little old lady working the counter when my friend and I went for breakfast asked us how we heard of the place and I told her it was through Yelp. She mentioned they don't advertise...all business they get is either through sites like Yelp or various customers telling coworkers and friends. That kind of thing. In the past growing up, K"s was "THE" place to get the Best Really reasonably priced Ono Bento! But using a Sad timeline (when the Aunty who used to work up front) had passed on, it was sooo much better before. Tastier, Generous portions, that great potato hash you could taste that it was made with love and pride. But now...The Bento is ok. The taste seemed like it's just not marinated long enough. And with them increasing the price too, when my kids and friends come and visit and want me to pick them up bentos,it was I'll get them K's!! Nowadays its more like ehhhh. Only $6 for the small bento, which includes a lot of food for the price (3 pieces chicken, piece of hot dog, egg, maki sushi, musubi and a plain sushi with shrimp flakes on top). They give you a chopstick but you really don't need one as everything can be finger foods - perfect! Cash only and very few stalls in front for parking but it's grab and go (bentos are ready for purchase - well, they were when I stopped by on a Thursday around 8:30am) so most leave pretty quickly. read more
