Came for an early dinner. We parked on Center and walked down a bit. The entrance is a bit unassuming. Definitely not loud and in your face. Upon entrance we were welcomed and immediately seated. Loved the clean and simple look of the place! We both chose the Domburi and side which I feel was a GREAT deal. There was a good amount of food. And the food came out so fast! The Domburi comes with miso and a small plate of some pickled veggies. I got the Katsu curry. It was exactly what I hoped it would be! I grew up on Japanese curry and this one took me back. So yummy! Not too spicy. The rice was spot on. And the Katsu had a nice crunch and crisp on the outside, but was nice and tender on the inside. Gyoza were yummy. I asked that they be steamed and not deep fried. Dipped in soy sauce they were mmm mmm perfect. Honestly coming here felt like I was being invited into someone's home. Love this place! I'm so happy to have a place in Provo where I can get great Japanese food. I love that the menu is super simple, but I still had a hard time deciding because everything looked so good. I ended up going with the oyakodon, and it was terrific. The deep-fried gyoza were also delicious. Service was great. I think I'm going back tomorrow to try the katsu curry. Fantastic Japanese place. The décor is traditionally Japanese and the music is as well. The design is pretty minimal, but authentic. The food is FANTASTIC! Try the salted pork and dumplings. I happened on this gem opening night! I ordered the ginger pork donburi with miso soup and some gyoza. So good and such great flavor! I enjoyed it so much I brought a bunch of my coworkers the next day for lunch. One of them, that lived in Japan for two years, was impressed by the quality of the rice and the food. For lunch I had the sanshoku donburi. I loved the sweet taste and the portions were good! I also tried the korokke which were great! My coworkers loved their meals. Wasn't really impressed. We ordered online, and when I arrived to pick it up, I was told that it was going to be longer. They told me I should have got a email. But they said they'd try to get it out soon, and offered me water while I waited. Well the owner I'm assuming brought it out not to long after. And proceeded to ask if I had got the email. I tried to politely say I don't check my email constantly. He then proceeded to say that they sent a email about the time change, and it could even be in my junk mail. Wouldn't really have mind it, but he didn't want to drop it, and I felt like he was just trying to prove they emailed me. Well they did, it was in my junk mail. The food here was delicious. It's pretty open and spacious. I got the tonkatsu donburi with a side of karaage chicken. I was expecting there to be sauces at the table but unfortunately weren't any. But when I took my first bite I realized you didn't really need it since the donburi he plenty of flavor. The chicken karaage was juicy and not dry and over cooked. This restaurant was one of my favorite in Provo. I've been this place since 2018. I understand that the time time goes, it's a good chance for the change their service. But the service is not what I expected as before. They changed to fast casual instead of full dining. I felt it is too much change for K's kitchen. My favorites are shiobutadon (salted pork) and gyōza, but really everything else is good too. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. It's almost like being in a real Japanese shokudo, eating the kind of food I enjoyed when I lived there. Today I had a katsudon, which was delicious. I also like the gyudon and shogayakidon. They offer small and large bowls, and the small bowl is perfect for lunch. They make their own gyoza (no frozen store-bought stuff), which I haven't tried yet but I brought some home and don't doubt they'll taste great. Absolutely delicious domburi!!! This family owned restaurant makes you feel right at home. Great meat, great service, and great food. We got the salty pork and katsudon combo with our sides of fried chicken and deep fried mashed potatoes and goodness. All food was a generous portion for the price. Since then I have eaten Katsudon in many Japanese restaurants abroad and throughout the U.S. I typically judge a restaurant by its Katsudon. I must say that at K's the Katsudon is the real deal. Went for lunch and the dining room was open and appropriately spaced for social distancing. We had katsudon, pork katsu curry, edamame, and steamed Gyoza pork dumplings. Everything came out pretty quickly and was absolutely delicious. Portion sizes were just right as well.
