I'm a long time customer with a large number of Kuiu items - from rain gear & insulation, pants to light weight hoodies for hunting/fishing. My wife and I each ordered Peloton 240 Full Zip Hoodies for a trip to Africa. My jacket pilled WHILE IN THE DUFFLE enroute to Africa. It continued to pill through normal wear during the 2 week trip. My wife's pilled excessively on the elbows during that period. Kuiu's response was: "As pilling is only cosmetic and is not the result of a flawed manufacturing process, this is something that our warranty, unfortunately, does not cover." Never had a fleece pill like this, not from Patagonia, Outdoor Research, Marmot or North Face. I guess I am accustomed to companies that FIELD TEST THEIR GEAR and STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. We discovered this brand at Scheels in Sparks, a high quality product. Then we noticed a billboard off the freeway, so we decided to stop by. Quality/Quantity - I did not find anything I liked, but we did get my wife a vest. They also have a few "outlet" priced items, the same price as their website. The good news is that you can touch and try them on here. Atmosphere - Small location. Neat and organized. Their corporate office is here also. BTW - Their shipping warehouse is in Vacaville. Open 6 days a week from 9am to 5pm or 5:30pm. Closed Sunday. Service - 5 stars. The team was very friendly and inviting. Plenty of parking, especially since they have so few customers. My wife purchased a Katana jacket for me as a gift. The jacket is extremely uncomfortable and pulls at my beard hair which gets trapped in the external material that was used inside the collar. I reached out to customer service by phone. I was told to file a warranty claim from their team. I reached out to explain this material should not have been used inside the jacket and offered to pay the difference for a different jacket. I was told it was not a warranty issue because it was a cosmetic issue. Clearly Kuiu doesn't stand behind what they sell. I have read similar reviews regarding poor customer service and design. This will be the last item I ever purchase from Kuiu. I recommend others steer clear for all the above reasons. I have attached emails of their contrived response so that you can see for yourselves. I have a ton of KUIU gear that I have purchased from them directly and some through other vendors, ebay, etc. I purchased a $600.00+ Kutana jacket for an Arctic Circle hunt per my outfitter's recommendation however, when the time came to leave for Nunavut...the temps in the region were unusually high so I didn't pack the jacket. It was unnecessary. At this point I had not even removed it from the package it arrived in. After my trip...while unpacking my gear, I tried the jacket on and found it to be much larger than expected. I should have purchased an XL instead of an XXL (I upsized to offset insulative layering beneath it) and when I attempted to exchange it for an XL, I was told their policy for this was time-limited and they were unwilling to make this exchange. This is why I and many others prefer Sitka Gear to KUIU...they never bum you out like this. I even wrote the following to KUIU when requesting the exchange: "Can I exchange it for an XL? When you see it you'll know it's only been worn inside for a minute. Happy to return it for inspection before you agree to anything. Sorry, I'm an idiot. But it is a very nice jacket and a helluva lot lighter than my HH arctic jacket...by a lot! Thank you for your consideration of my request." I felt it reasonable for them to at least look at it and consider my request but their response was: "Thank you for reaching out to us, and patience as we have been working through some higher-than-average numbers. Unfortunately, the order does not meet our returns guidelines because it is outside of our return policy timeframe and is no longer eligible for a return or exchange. For future reference, you can view our Return Policy here. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please feel free to let us know if there is anything else we can help you with." Well apologies are about as useful as a bow without arrows and while KUIU's policies may make financial sense to them...in reality it costs them repeat customers, goodwill and future revenues in the long term. I own four businesses and know it's important to do right by your customers so they continue to purchase and refer the company to others. I had previously read negative KUIU reviews addressing this issue and read about it in posts on hunting sites and now I know it's fact. I actually hate KUIU now and will never purchase from them again...they don't take care of their customers. Their loss is Sitka's gain. KUIU customer service sets the consumer care bar so low...you can't find it with a shovel. The simple exchange of an unworn jacket in a smaller size (which would not hurt them financially) would have prevented this review and my distain for KUIU. This experience reminded me of a famous quote by noted author/lecturer/educator Brian Tracy: "The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term, is the indispensable prerequisite for success." KUIU management should read his books on the psychology of sales & marketing. KUIU is rated F by the Better Business Bureau. read more

The customer service from the employees was amazing! Very friendly, eager to help and in my opinion went out of their way to help find and direct us where we needed to be. The store is small so i definitely wish the women's section was bigger, it's hard to pay those prices without being able to try the product on because it's not in store. I will say the customers in the store (I believe were friends with the employees) were a whole other story on the other hand. We were coming home from hunting so this was a last minute quick run in and Christmas treat to ourselves before my husband dropped me off at home to turn around and go back out pig hunting. There was a couple in the store (I even complemented the wife on her really pretty sweater) turned to the female running the register and said "GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CROWD with the snottiest of smirks) and I thought to myself how incredibly rude. We are all here for the same thing to purchase quality hunting gear to protect us from the elements and not at a low price either. So truly I hope the woman doesn't drowned in the next rain storm because her nose is so high in the air. However again the staff were beyond friendly, I only minus one star just because I wanted to shop for more women's gear. Drove from home to Dixon which was an hour and a half. Looked bigger outside than inside but this is where I order my gear and I wanted to return something. Easy return and was helped but the lady who worked there was more customer centric and helpful than the other guy who has already been mentioned in reviews. I get it, it is not a life job so I won't hit the store on that. I knew what I wanted so it was nice to get some help regardless, considering I dropped $1k in clothing and gear. Selection was nice but some sizes were out which means demand is good for their quality items. I got a discount on a few items so I was happy. Didn't realize I double bought two items online and from the store, so will need to head back but there is so much I can buy it won't be a problem or I just keep them since the clothing is so nice and warm for my winter and hunting needs. They also tend to have items in stock in the show room which are not in stock online. it's worth calling them to see if they have it in the show room if you're striking out on the website. Bought a hunting jacket. Inspected the item right away and found wears and tears on the edge of the inner fleece of the hood where the outer layer and the inner fleece sewed together. I emailed Kuiu same day I received the item, and ask if they would give me free shipping for an exchange. The next day I got a response said to send them photos, so I did. Few days later I got a response from them saying, it not covered under warrant, (what?). All the Kuiu gear I have is made top notch but their customer service is a bit frustrating. Shipping charges really start to accumulate when trying to find the right size or color. Recommend they at least correct the colors shown on the website to be more representative of their products like normal clothing brands. I strongly advise buying several sizes and colors in one order and returning the colors and sizes not wanted to save on continually accumulating shipping costs and hassle. I will say they do include a return shipping label with each order which saves hassle and is appreciated. CS people are typically not very knowledgeable with the gear but occasionally you get some one how is familiar which really helps. The colors of their solid pants are extremely misleading. Sierra Pants in "Bourbon" are actually traditional army type olive green. Sierra Pants in "Ash Brown" are actually a dark green so dark it looks black until seen in really good light. Attack pants in "Loden" was supposed to be an olive green type color but was pretty much British Racing Green. Pretty frustrating when you have to buy site unseen for size, fit, feel, function AND color! My Yukon gaiters in "Major Brown" are just as advertised in color and are a fantastic in use! NX ultralite rain pants (sadly Kuiu no longer makes ultra lite gear) are super light and very durable especially considering the weight. Perfect for when rain is a possibility not a constant. Their zip dry bags are awesome for organizing kits in your pack and keeping things like electronics and first aid dry and clean. read more

Great stuff for outdoors people. We stopped in just because we were curious and wound up getting awesome gear. They have wicked good gaiters, hats and gloves. The man that helped us was super nice, able to answer all our questions about the materials and gave us the 411 on the company. He uses the product so he could share that perspective as well. Locally based business, which is always cool. They had really great looking pants with reinforced knees that I'll be stoked to get when they come out with a women's version. If you're looking for quality hunting clothing at a decent price, KUIU needs to be on your radar. Excellent quality and design, at a far better price the Sitka and comparable to First Lite. I like to support local companies and when spending the amount of money you spend on premium technical hunting gear, I need to try it on and understand what I'm buying. Unlike a lot of these reviewers experience; I found the staff at KUIU extremely helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable about their products. I talked with 3 different reps while trying on gear and was really impressed with their knowledge and help in getting me into the right gear for an upcoming pig hunt. It's always a 50% chance that I will get good or bad costumer service. I went in on Black Friday and once I entered in the store this middle age guy and a younger guy gave my friend and I a hard stair, not even a "hello" or "welcome in", just a cold stair. I looked back at them and they both locked eyes on my friend and I for a bit until we went towards the back. It was busy but if they were going to give us a cold look they could at least say "hello". Once I got my stuff I went to the counter and they started scanning without even saying a word, they only said "phone number" like it wasn't a question but more of a demand. They read back a random email asking if it was mine and I said "no". They had to retype my email and they were not happy about it, acting like it's my fault. After I payed they didn't say bye or thank you. I took my bad and walked out. Honestly I was super disappointed because kuiu use to be very friendly, I wouldn't expect to see 2 guys who either hated their job or hated me for no reason. I have seen this brand floating around the hunting world for a few years but never realized they were a locally owned company in my area until recently. I can't speak for their camo patterns because I'm a Sitka guy but I've purchased hats, base layers and a bino bivy system from them and all were made with excellent quality material. Super Down Ultra Hooded Jacket is a Chinese rip-off. After reading the KUIU history and description of this jacket, I purchased the "super down" piece to keep warm during a pack trip scheduled for early August. The jacket that arrived within a week, contrary to the photo, looks and feels like it has no down. For the $299.00 price tag I feel I'm paying for great marketing and Chinese construction. As the return policy requires the buyer to pay for return postage, I emailed customer service Friday morning at 10am to inform them I should not have to pay to return a misrepresented item. I asked that they not deduct the UPS slip cost from my refund. It is Sunday at 2:23pm and I have yet to receive a reply. I believe the 5 Star rating KUIU receives across the board is not legit. read more
